Guess ill just take my dumbbells to pool tmr

Comment #2 - Posted by: Joe-fiT at August 22, 2012 5:08 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong but the subs should be the following for the swim:
800 meter run
1000 meter row
2000 meter bike
This is based on the WOD From 120811 of
Swim 100 meters
Run 400 meters
Row 500 meters
Bike 1000 meters

Comment #3 - Posted by: Bobby at August 22, 2012 5:15 PM

I would say that 1000m row is probably the closest sub for 200m swim.

Just a quick question, If I were to row on a concept 2 rower(as a sub for swimming). What level should the 1000m row be?

Thanks guys. Smash it.

Comment #6 - Posted by: Chrisso at August 22, 2012 5:57 PM

Yes!!! I love swimming! Thank you!!!!

Comment #7 - Posted by: abh f/26/5'5/130 at August 22, 2012 6:00 PM

Good memory bobby, i think those subs are perfect. Can never really get a great sub for swimming but well do out best.

Comment #8 - Posted by: Tg at August 22, 2012 6:18 PM

A 200m swim is much more intense than an 800m run or 1000m row, also totally different muscle action. I'll sub a 200m bear crawl. Can't wait to hit this one! RIP Sergeant Tully.

Comment #9 - Posted by: Mike M at August 22, 2012 6:21 PM

23 reps for each day in August of 07.

It's good that there are hero workouts. Every time before I attempt a hero WOD, I research on internet the name and story of a fallen hero to learn about their sacrifice and think for a moment about their families.

Today, my thoughts and heart goes out to Tully's family.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Vasily Shchegolev at August 22, 2012 6:52 PM

@ chrisso -comment 6- level 4 on the rower is about what water feels like to a rowIng boat, a swimmer has way more drag so I'm guessing you'd have to set it to 8 or 10 level. But smarter folks might have better ideas.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Jj at August 22, 2012 6:59 PM

This looks great, except that I can't take dumbbells to the pool at the Y... I'll have to get creative.

Comment #12 - Posted by: BC at August 22, 2012 7:06 PM

@ Jj #11. Thanks for the feedback, I can't wait to take this one on. I can appreciate it's hard to sub swimming!

Tully this ones for you

creative sub for 200m swim: 1000m row with weighted vest

Comment #15 - Posted by: DMG at August 22, 2012 7:42 PM

@DMG, a 1000m row with a weighted vest is a bit too creative unless you row standing up.

Hello,

I am reaching out to my Crossfit community on behalf of my friend Brandon's family.

byDawn Bowling

Brandon contracted Aplastic Anemia after returning home from his second tour in Iraq. Due to the nature of this disease and its effects on the Immune System, he is unable to work. He is currently awaiting a Bone Marrow Transplant donor. And Brandon has a 12yr old daughter that needs her dad!!

Friends and Family would like to ask you to visit the National Bone Marrow Donation Website to consider being tested as a donor, if not for Brandon, then for someone else's life you could save.

Please help us get the word out, Please if you can't donate, pass this on to someone else whom might, thank you!

Thanks

The Family and Friends of Brandon Jesser

The link to the fundraiser is:
https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/1LlX0?psid=b66073a9701e49188d93456ef3a4ac49

Please if you can give even a dollar it would be one less this veteran's family has to spend. But if you could be the donor to save his or someone else's life, that would be the greatest gift. If you cannot give I understand, please post it to any social media you can. If you have questions or suggestions please email me. Please lets come together as the community I know we are and help this hero and his family.
Thank you

I did the power clean workout today, followed by an hour of exersize before work. Got off work to look at tomorrows and saw it was a hero workout. Figured the best way I could suffer was to go do it tonight. I'm a terrible swimmer as far as form, so it's a hell of an upper body workout for me. However, as bad as I wanted to puke and fall down, I busted this one out for Tully. Luckily, my gym let me take dumbells to the pool. The worst was carrying them back upstairs after this insane workout. RIP brother! Get it crossfitters!

Looking for a suitable sub for dumbell squat clean as I have a busted knee. I want to do the swim, so something that would be suitable for at a pool?
Thanks.

I really want to do this, how do you do the squat cleans.....dry off and put shoes on after each swim or just do the them barefoot (in my DT's)?

Comment #26 - Posted by: Michael at August 23, 2012 3:33 AM

When is Crossfit going to collaborate with Total Immersion to begin encouraging proper and efficient swimming form?

Comment #27 - Posted by: Dan at August 23, 2012 4:18 AM

Cant recomment Rowing to sub swimming. Rowing is like Weightlifting while sitting, so the Movement and used Muscles are quite the same in comparison to the squats. Swimming or subing with running or bike would be the best imho.

Besides i get confused with the pound to kg all the time i had too heavy dumbbells in the first round and i subed the squats to 15 reps. after round 2 i switched from 1000m rowing to 800m run and in the 4th round i did 500m row because i have a rowing regatta at the weekend and didnt want to do full exhausting.

But its a real heavy WOD, nice one.

Sub hill climbers for swim. Pushup position, then alternate legs and bring each knee up towards chest. I did 200 each leg, timing was pretty close to some of the swimmers. 28 minutes.

Well I'm back on duty today. So no access to a pool, plus the Y has theirs drained for cleaning. might make this one up tomorrow if the pool is back opened. Terrible swimmer I don't float! I'm going to figure something else out for today. Just wont take a rest day.

I called 3 or 4 gyms nearby and nobody would let me take dumbells into the pool area, so I subbed 800m run for the swim. As rx'd for the squat cleans though my form felt terrible.

Is it suppose to be 20# dumbbells so it can equal 40#s or is it 40# each dumbbell?

I've already done the workout I did it with 40# dumbbells just want to know if I did it right.

Thanks in advance

@ #71

Perhaps YOU have never swam before. The combination of getting into/out of the pool, constant flutterkicking, and timing your breaths all take its toll. I would have gladly ran 800m or rowed 1000m vs the 200m swim.

What would I know about swimming though?

Sub 1000m row
30# dumbells

2 sets
Row
18 power clean

2 sets
Row
18 squat clean

Still getting used to squat cleans so when I started out they were actually power cleans which were a lot harder so had to do 18. Once I got through the 2nd set, thoroughly sweated out and tired, I wasn't pulling as much as would drop down under the weight faster like a true squat clean.

Great workout, if I'd started w/squat cleans I think I might've been able to finish 23 reps. Still kicked my ass and my shoulders will definitely be sore.

I'm a lousy swimmer, but I think I was doing better today than during the last swim WOD I did, the Sprint Triathlon from a while back. It took about 7 minutes to dry off and get to the weight room.
