Thank god, or somebody, for rest day articles...

Comment #2 - Posted by: Chris at July 30, 2012 6:34 PM

Love the Pacino rant!

Comment #3 - Posted by: Cloudraker at July 30, 2012 6:48 PM

Is this picture taken at a strange angle...? I understand the drown-proofing, it's just an...odd...picture.

Comment #4 - Posted by: Digz at July 30, 2012 6:49 PM

This is just conjecture, since I have no experience with ISR, but I would imagine that using the wet towel is probably a training tool to help them rest and breathe?

Comment #5 - Posted by: Phil at July 30, 2012 7:06 PM

The pictures shows training a child for the possibility of falling into a pool and having something such as a jacket or towel cover their face. Being able to remove the obstruction to breathing is a critical lifesaving skill.

2 of my favorite things in life: CrossFit & Katt Williams

Comment #8 - Posted by: Drew at July 30, 2012 7:58 PM

Hey sr10, how do you think kids drown?! It's called an accident and they happen. This way the kid may actually survive if the unimaginable happens.

The parents who train their kids like this don't then go and leave them unsupervised by the pool!!! Get a clue man.

If you do not know about the program, please do not make negative comments. Drowning is the number one cause of death in children under four in the United States. As ISR instructors, we teach aquatic survival skills to infants and children. We hope they never have to use these skills, but they are another layer of protection, because no matter how good of a parent you are, a child can quickly and quietly get away from your watchful eye. You cannot tell an infant to stay away from the water and have them understand the danger. The infant in the photo is not learning how to swim. He is learning how to get on his back and float, and remove an object from his face that may obstruct his breathing if he falls into water unattended. I invite you to go to the ISR site and watch Sterling's Story. It may help you understand the importance of the program.

An important issue for a parent or anyone supervising swimmers is knowing what to look for. The above link is an interesting article on drowning.

Wow, I haven't posted here in forever. But seriously great job on the rest day post.

Kat Williams video is blocked on YouTube... anyone eslse??

Comment #15 - Posted by: Karl at July 31, 2012 4:15 AM

Thanks for the post and the article. I have 2 little boys under 3 years old and we have a pool, this issue is really important to us.

40+ local toddler/baby drownings in our metro area alone this summer (Montreal), really unnecessary. Thanks for spreading the awareness.

Katt Williams is the truth! Good to see that HQ has a sense of good humor!

Anyone who is looking for a WOD, just do a half-murph like we did at Comet Crossfit yesterday. Technique got wierd with the half murph, because I felt like I should do double-sets of Cindy, and then ended up just ripping out 20 pull ups and leaving myself with push ups and squats... couldn't get a good rhythum.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Kevin H at July 31, 2012 5:48 AM

I am a lifeguard and have seen so many parents who think the pool is a free babysitting area. It's sad really. So many kids don't know how to swim and they get into trouble quickly. I watched a video where there were parents, camp counselors and lifeguards around while this kids struggled for 3 minutes then drowned and no one saw him. That's all it takes people...1-3 very quick minutes. Cudos to those who want to teach our children life saving skilss!

Is that... a TOWEL over the baby's face?! This pic looks like they're waterboarding a baby. ISR is a great initiative with amazing techniques! (picture is just disturbing. Though, I suppose it makes for a good wakeup call.)

Just started CF about a month ago, and the jokes from my co workers are getting old quick. However today was a good day. My CF partner was gone due to work but one of my body builder co workers decided to do Saturdays wod with me. I can't wait till tomorrow to tell all the muscle heads at work. Great workout. Starting to see some good improvements.
Also any good smartass comebacks? Lol I keep telling them they'll be good at moving furniture when we get back to the states.

Anyone else hearing about Anthos Capital's bid to buy out Lauren's 50% share of Crossfit? I don't like the sound of this..

Pacino ... I like it... Pretty timely (intentional I'm sure) regarding the anthos stuff. Affiliates are the "sleeping giants" in this game... Seemingly just individual pieces of a pie doing their thing but capable of greatness when united.

Baby waterboarding. OK I get it, good cause. But we're not allowed to do that to terrorists anymore.....
