Also remember all those who have made the supreme sacrifice today, as in Australia and New Zealand it is Anzac Day.

"They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old, age shall not weary nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them."

Lest we forget.

As an MMA fighter, I started doing Crossfit WODs on my own during the time I usually spent traditional, "pumping iron"-type lifting(usually AM before work) to build muscle and strength while keeping my flexibilty. I must admit I am totally hooked on these WODs and won't ever be going to back to traditional style workouts. Im getting a little discouraged, though, since the first week nearly killed me and weeks 2-4 haven't been much better, although I have been able to get through every WOD this week as Rx'd. I'm already looking into joining an actual Crossfit gym but until then, is each workout supposed to make you feel like death afterwards? Haha Crossfit has definitely humbled me a bit...

#44--conman, if you can already do a muscle up only doing crossfit for a month, you are wayyyyy ahead of the curve. the workouts are always hard. something is always sore--if you push yourself. within a month or two, you will need to take a few days off to recover. then, you'll come back stronger and faster, and you'll only feel like crap for about 20-30 min after a wod. if you eat right and stay hydrated. so, there is hope at the end of the tunnel.

Why has ROM been so poor in mainsite WOD demos lately? The whole point of parallettes is to go BELOW parallel. Yet, in this demo, most of the parallette handstand pushups are to, or even above, parallel. Were the guys in the demo purposefully doing scaled parallette handstand pushups?

This is the first workout I've done with actual HSPUs. They were not done on parallettes ... Instead they were done down to a pillow that was about an inch thick when my head squashed it down. I also kipped. BUT.... That's 55 reps of an exercise I never thought I'd ever be able to do.

Squat cleans were with 135#.... oof.

Funny how halfway through the workout, the cleans are no longer the rest period... They're the problem.

I did my own WOD today.. or one I read a long time ago:

5 rounds:
2 minutes of work of:
50 D.U. then do AMRAP of 110 lb thrusters
Rest 1 minute

Round 1: 16
Round 2: 16
Round 3: 15
Round 4: 13
Round 5: 13

Total thrusters: 73

I did this one off the rack. I think I should have done it off the ground. GOOD WOD.
I'm thinking that I might have messed up and super rushed one round to only 1 minute, but probably not. I took the first minute off and then did 2 minutes work and 1 minute rest.. that would be a total of 16 mintues, but when i was done there was a minute left???
Anyhoo, really good WOD... my legs got tired at the end... I was breaking up the thrusters in the begining into 7 or 8 plus 5-6 and then 1-3 in the last 15 seconds or so. The DUs were mostly pretty easy and fast.. I occasionally broke them up by tripping up. I probably took about 30-40 seconds or so do them each round. I used the wrist wraps from the 3rd round on... that's when it started to get saucy. The minute rest was perfect.. I was still a little out of breath at the begining of each next round.. not fully recovered... perfect. Thrusters wear me out, so this was a good test for me.

Unfortunately a kid grabbed my phone while I was working out so I didn't get a time. I'm guessing between 35 and 40 minutes.

I dont see any "bounce" off the thigh for the cleans in the WOD Demo video, mainly pulling through. Does the clean/squat differ in technique from the clean & jerk or snatch as far as the 1st & 2nd pulls from the floor to above the hips?

Comment #177 - Posted by: Dale Fortes at April 27, 2012 11:58 AM

I did this as a 20 minute AMRAP knowing that 185 55 times would leave me too sore to work out for a week. I got through 45 hspu's with a 4" depth below paralellettes and 26 squat cleans. All reps were singles and when I treied to go faster I couldn't stand up with the weight. 185 is 84% of my front squat max right now so my legs were sore before I left the gym!

parallelette HSPU's never felt so easy but did em one at a time because I had only 10min to warmup and focused on cleans.

RIP JJ. I look forward to doing this RX'd someday.
