WOD Demo with Conner Moore - video [wmv] [mov] [HD mov]

Is that photo of tomorrow's WOD?
Conner Moore you're a beast! Anyone got a height and weight for him? He doesn't look big!
how long are the rest periods in between sets?
@Sean, give as long as you need but 3-5 minutes is a good standard.
To Scott Rogers...show off.
I have a question about diet. I am 5'11 and weigh 235ish with a lean body mass around 175. I have tried several times to eat "clean" and have had a hard time getting enough calories in. I stick with the diet for a few days then I end up becoming so hungry that I snap off of it. I feel like I eat a lot but do not seem to get enough calories in. I am doing the crossfit workouts, Plus I play basketball a couple times a week. I also work am a working student in a resturant. So even though I am seditary in my studies I am on my feet 3-4 nights a week at work. I know at first there is some will power but when I stick with it, I loose weight DRASTICLY and I know that is why I crash back off the diet. Any suggestions? I am considering adding a glass of whole milk to each meal for about a 500 calorie boost to the diet.
Thank you in advance for your time,
J. Sargeant

WOW~ Looking at Connor's over all size I would never have guessed he would be capable of 290#.Yikes! Thats tough. The only thing is that bouncing that weight off your sternum is incredibly dangerous.
You should be benching that kind of weight in a power cage with cross bars and stop the weight 1/2" to 1" off your sternum. That way you don't use your ribcage as a spring to help bounce the weight up. You may have to back off the weight a bit because it will be harder but it will be safer.

Those are pretty lite weights but hey I'm just starting out I expect big improvements!
I agree with Comment #13. Bouncing off the chest like that is soooooooooo dangerous that its not even funny, plus he is lifting his butt off the bench almost everytime, which is super bad for your lower back. He has to engage that core a lot more. In a powerlifting competition, all those would constitute a "no-rep".
INTENSELY DISLIKE the photo, unless he had permission from the park service. If that is the arch I think it is, it is an icon and has been harmed by show-off's climbing it.
INTENSELY LIKE the photo, the guy is definitely in the moment and loving life and having a great time with mother Earth. He's showing us what brass balls are and is a motivating sight for a man.
my question is, can i do the bench press exercise, and after do another cross fit work out.
#20 sure but don't overtrain yourself either - as a general principle
maybe add a metcon to it after or something

You're not going to get any love on this comments page, dude.
I posted something similar about a pic of some guys BASE jumping off a locale where BASE is strictly prohibited by law.
No one cares. Save yourself the trouble and stay away from the Kool-Aid.
Talk about defining mental and physical fitness. Sweet slacklining and pic. There has been and always will be a difference of opinions about the ethics of climbing. And every climber and non-climber with an opinion believes he or she is right. He is likely on removable gear and cares for the arch as much as anyone else.

Just looking for a little hope at the moment.

Tried to press 88lbs/40kg on 3rd set but it was a weight too far!
I have a question. Is doing the WOD enough, or do you have to do more training a day??
I'm new to the concept of crossfit. Thanks in advance.

#23 The guy in the picture is performing a phenomenal physical feat. No doubt about it. He is also breaking the law -- not a custom. Removable gear or not, these arches are fragile. Rock climbing is an amazing accomplishment. Do it legally and where approved. I'm not a tree-hugger, but encourage us to use our resources wisely and well. It is sin to do otherwise. Within a few miles of this site is some of the best climbing in the world open to anyone who wants.

Okay, CrossFit, I have been an avid supporter of y'all for almost four years now, but there was NOTHING about Connor's form that was at all safe, and that is very dangerous for those people who have not studied exercise physiology. Him even mentioning bouncing the weight of your chest is a huge NO-NO! Why would someone say that? I sincerely hope this is not what y'all are recommending... Further, his lower back should have been pressed into the bench: him arching his back is not only improper form, but is also - once again - dangerous. If you can't lift without proper form, the weight is too heavy. We take enough risks with weight training, and improper weight training has debilitated people, sometimes permanently. This WOD demo video is a poor representation of what I believe CrossFit to be all about.

It is really up to you and how you feel that day. On a Met-Con day such as "Fran", or "Diane" I would just do the WOD because you should be putting everything you have into the routine. If you feel the need to do more get a least a few hours of rest. On strength day you may feel like you need another bit of exercise, but don't over do it. After today's WOD i plan on either running or rowing but not a super hard pace. Most athlete i talk to that are NOT training for the games don't find any benifit to multiple WOD's per day. Still it always comes down to you, your goals and how you feel that day.

A question: What technique is approved as being a good rep in bench press according to crossfit? I always learned that the upper back and the butt must be in contact with the bench throughout the lift and the toes must be on the ground. I remember the technique being showed in the video as being referred to as "Bar humping." Lifting the hips away from the bench makes the lift significantly easier... just asking guys, is this allowed? Thanks.

I had a grade 3 AC last year. My orthopedic surgeon told me I could have it repaired if I was bothered by the cosmetics of my clavicle sticking up over my shoulder. Recovery would include 6 weeks in a sling. As a surgeon,I couldn't afford to do that, so I struggled for a few weeks. I would say I was back to baseline in 2 months without pain. Definitely talk to your surgeon about the risks and benefits of surgery vs. observation. Good luck.

Not that you are probably going to come back and read the comments but the picture is completely legit. I took the picture
We are not doing anything illegal, there is no climbing involved to get into this shot and a BLM land manager actually came be previously and encourage the slack lining.
I am assuming you think it is delicate arch...last time I checked no train tracks at delicate arch. Look below the arch...train tracks. If you are so concerned with the environment I suggest asking them to be removed! Not that, that would ever happen. Not you possibly asking but some removing the tracks.
Cheers Tim

CFWU-3. Monkey touches 3rd. No dips third. Superman. Did second week of endurance programming after this WOD.

Tried to make sure breaks long enough. Bob & Jason did WOD so that helped with length of breaks.

#164 Tim -- I'm happy to be corrected. Even happier that this is not Delicate Arch. BLM land is what I was referring to in another comment about great climbing available to anyone.
Since this apparently is not Nat'l Park Land, I apologize. If you guys did this in a responsible way without harming those beautiful arches, more power to you, and go for it.
Those of us who only get rare opportunities to visit beautiful sites like this get a little jealous of preserving them for our children.
