Well, this should be hilarious
whats the sub. for handstand walk?
I wonder what percentage of WOD'ers can actually do the handstand walk? Expecting to see a lot of substituting.
Can't do handstand walk. What's the sub. Also really liked pheezy any suggestions for a workout that is similar?
for those like me with no coordination for handstand walking, I substitute handstand walking in place against a wall. Put your hands on the floor about a foot from the wall and kick your legs up so you are leaning against the wall upside down. then lean slightly to one side and lift your opposite hand all the way up to your shoulder, then repeat with the other hand. once you get into the rhythm you can rock back and forth at a pretty good pace. i would do about 3 of them per yard (so 75 for this WOD).
on the video she has 2 examples of holding a handstand against the wall for a certain period of time, or doing 25 handstands against a wall.
Annie is a phenom!!!
One of the disadvantages of being 260# with a 80+" arm span, and a bum shoulder. I am thinking either presses or heavy overhead static holds as a sub.
just do handstand walking with someone holding your ankles
Wheelbarrow 50 yds could be a substitute??
well i might just bench for a sub
It took 7 minutes for Annie to do this WOD. Surely instead of just replacing the exercise you would benefit more from an hour of handstand practice.
Funny that Annie mentions full hip extension at the top and there are several times where she does not have full extension.
15:33 as rxed, pretty much... across the gym and back, seemed to be about 25 yards. New personal PR for handstand walk, did about 10 yards unbroken once.
Subbed handstand hold against wall for 30 sec for walking handstand.

Does anyone add cardio or weight lift to these workouts?

For the squats, are they weighted squats or bodyweight?
@#37 Watch WOD Demo...it will answer your question
scaled - 19:38
wow Annie! You make it look like a (handstand) walk in the park :)
Uh oh he is wearing all underarmour , i did not think that was allowed anymore.
I am like most others and I have never had the balance for hand stands. After reading a bit, I could have done the hold or rocking motion but I as I was doing arms today, I did db snatches 10 reps ->1 rep, starting at 35lb and going up by 5 lb. I should have done it for time for a better workout
Not Rx'd -- HS walks would have taken me forever, but wanted an interesting sub, so I reached way back to April 18, 2009 and did:
5 RFT
15 Inverted burpees (see 4/18/09 for description)
50 squats
18:56
On Crossfit main there is a link for "BranX Scaled workouts". It's to the left of the WOD. They also recommended doing a lateral walk with your feet on the walk and had a demo video posted.
They post scaled workouts for every WOD.
officially my most hated WOD, def need to work on shoulder strength, about 28 min, 3 rds of eith wall crawls (walk up the wall with feet) or about 25 feet of plank walks and 50 air squats

subbed this one with a 10 round sprints and burpees workout wearing a weight vest as i'm not the best handstander in the world yet :D
congrats to all the guys who can actually do the whole 25 yards
I think it's interesting that in the WOD demo video, Annie walks through the proper way to do an air squat demonstrating hip below 90 deg and all the way up through full extension. But, when she does the workout, she doesn't come all the way up through full extension. Hmmm?
15:51
Handstand hold for 45 sec
Unable to do the HS walk...plus chest/shoulders/arms quite sore after yesterday (first WOD in 2 weeks). So, did some deadlift work based on what I learned at the L1 a month ago. Concentrated on form alot...felt good!

Happy to say as rx'd. Not so much about the time. 22:29. Need to practice hand stand walks more often.

epic fail on the handstand walk. I had to have my loving wife hold my feet up while I walked the length of the bball court.
My time: 14:02. My wife's time: 13:20 (i held her feet for her, too).
I am wondering if there is something that can be done for the headache that you get from walking on your hands.

Thank you gymnastics for 14 years of handstand competitions. I love hearing my fellow crossfitters groan as I walk down the mat and spin on my hands and walk back without stopping. I'll be groaning tomorrow though with those snatches!
We had Tiffany demo this today for fun since her pic was up, 6:47. We're trying to get video uploaded. This one was fun, something tells me we'll definitely see this at the Games or at Regionals!

For a cool down I did some underwater swimming.

Handstand walking getting better. One of the few WODs where I can skip warm-up and not regret it. Worst part of this was I did this in our back yard with my shirt off, and got a nasty allergic rxn to the grass rolling out of the handstands. Guess it's that time of year. Afterwards, played a bit with the slack line.
