How has Maddox done this already? He doesn't have an automatic slot at Regionals.
It's going to be interesting to gauge the improvement of athletes who competed last year. People are already complaining about a lack of creativity, but I think this was a good move. Yes, CrossFit is supposed to be constantly varied, but benchmarks are also important.
Neil Maddox can't be happy about getting the same score as last year :)
I think the whole community was calling for a Diane ladder instead of Fran, but all good. Let's get it!
sweet lord. Fran-tastic Nightmare.
I knew there'd be pull ups - but yeah, looking more for a clean and jerk / pull up wod
No handstand push ups. I'm so happy!
I will triple the amrap time because I'm the man and I suck all at the same time. Post comments below...
The real challenge is finding 2.5 lb. plates.
Why no heavy wods? I just wanted to deadlift tomorrow :(
So basically, Fran goes to hell, and brings back 5 lbs for the men.
wow....
I cant wait for this one :]
ATTENTION: Let me just start by saying ive been crossfitt'n for over a year and love the sport and community but something recently happened that gave me a wake up call...
After completing wod 11.4 (wall balls from hell) on Thurs, my brother, a D1 tennis player and great athlete went to the beach only to return Sunday with EXTREME muscle pain and rusty urine, YES HE GOT RHABDOMYOLYSIS. I know we have all heard the stories but its never real until it happens to someone close to you. This is just a heads up, good athletes are susceptible to rhaddo so be careful!! Always hydrate pre wod and rehydrate post wod and avoid excessive heat post wod (The Games in Cali is just asking for this...)
I am in no way bashing crossfit, but I just want people to be aware of this and BE CAREFUL. My brother is doing better after 3 days in the hospital but prob wont be released for another few days and was told NO PHYSICAL ACTIVITY for a full month!! I know none of us want to go thru what he is so be careful, crossfit is challenging and gets people out of their comfort zone which can be good for improvement but also dangerous at times. Keep working hard folks, but just know rhabdo is SERIOUS and should not be taken lightly. Good luck to everyone in the Open...let the Games begin
I was hoping for something heavy- like 3-5-7 315lb deadlift, hspu, chest to bar pullup.
How do some athletes pre-qualify and get an automatic slot at regionals?
Why is there a giant gorilla standing behind Clever in that picture?....oh wait thats just Khalipa
Wow, nice job everyone. Looks like I got my work cut out for me tomorrow.
as many reps in 7 min
100lb thruster/ chest to bar pull up
(start with 3 reps and multiples of 3)
completed 3,6,9 and did 12 thrusters and 6 pull ups.
Noone Pre-Qualifies this year, the only thing that may change is for the regionals if one of the top CF Games Final competitors from last year takes a top 3 spot in their region an extra person will be taken for the 4th slot for that region.
M/ 37/ 133 lbs/ 5'-6"
As Rx: 96 reps
Completed round of 15 + 6 Thrusters
Felt pretty good.
I wish I could have had bumper plates to just be able to drop the weight at the top of the thrusters.
I need to work on my position in my thrusters... I need to work on staying on my heels more. I was coming up on my toes a bit. I have to jump back on the bar faster. I just watched last years video of 11.6 .. it was very similar until the last 2 minutes. 10 more reps this year... next year even more. I was pretty happy since my left shoulder and back have been kind of tweeked/ pulled for about 2 weeks and I've been working through the pain and minimizing my workouts on those areas during the weeks to allow for me to go at the Open WODs more freely. I have been just treating the Open WODs as normal training WODS, only doing them once. I've made good improvements on most areas, especially the wallball and the box jump from last year. I knew they were weaknesses and now I feel a lot more comfortable with them. My strength has gone up as well, but my snatch still needs to bump up a bit. I'm still only about 133 lbs, but better at almost all areas of fitness, and a year older. Happy overall. New weaknesses addressed and things to work on all year long now. I actually think the Open should have been 6 weeks long again.
I think this is a great test WOD. It's even for big, small, tall, short.. there's an advantage and a disadvantage for all people. WORK CAPACITY. I'll bet Spealler kills this one.
I guess the best way to describe Neal Maddox is illmatic
Ahhh, the 7 minute time domain. My favorite. Too short to slow down, to long just suck it up and get by. You actually have to be fit!
EW
Not a fan of this. In every region, guys will qualify for regionals without ever having lifted anything heavier than 165 pounds. In some cases, they'll have only managed to lift 165 pounds a handful of times.
CF should take "strength" out of its 10 fitness parameters. It obviously doesn't matter.
What weight in KG should I do this with. The conversion of 100# is 45.359kg. Should I do this with 45KG or should I do it with the nearest I can get without a lower weight. Which would be 47.5.
Thanks
#24 Matt,
Maybe I'm just an HQ apologist, but c'mon dude. Didn't we go through this same thing last year? Should we take flexibility out as well because there wasn't a max effort sit and reach? (See last year's video from HQ on the subject. I thought it made this point well.) This is the first step in a long process and it'll work itself out. The folks who make it to Regionals are going to be plenty strong, let alone the Games.
And not that it's required, but that's an awful strong statement for a guy who isn't even registered for the Open as far as I can tell. You might have a good reason for this but how about you join in and share in this with the community and instead of picking at perceived holes.
As RXd:
15 rounds + 5 reps
Had to bump up to 105# since we don't have any 2 1/2 lb. plates.
Completed 70 reps.
Wasn't quite feeling it today...
Good luck everyone from Sweden!
66 reps, damn I suck. No efficiency in the pull ups screwed me over here, was going great guns on the thrusters...
44/m/176cm/71kg
As rx'd (45kg thrusters)
15/15 (90 reps), just like last time.
Barely made the 7 minute C2B-Fran. Solid thrusters. Lost 2 kg bodyweight compared to last year.

does anybody knows withs song is playing in the background @2:49
when this wod was posted for the last crossfit games, is it me or was it 115 ;bs thrusters? because that's what i remember doing last time, and if i recall, i also remember it sucking. In any combination, thrusters and pullups nearly kill me
Now M/40/190/5-10 on 22 Mar 2012.
Did 3:30 approx 1/2 the time to get a feel for the real WOD, got through rnd of 12= 60 by 3:33
brok rnd of 9 into 9 Thr and easy 7-2 CTBPU.
Rnd of 12 7-5, and 12 str CTBPU. Will need to get 8-7 for Thrusters in rnd of 15. Get all the PU, then hang on to get Thrusters until time expires...We shall see. Goal should be 60 at 3:30. 90 at 6:00, then start hitting thrusters.
We shall see...

M/39/185/5-10
scored 88..
Should have gotten at least 90.. too much time resting on thrusters.
CTB were 3-6-9-5,4,3- 5,5,3 time
Thursters were 3-6-7,2-7,5-7,5,3.
I expected at least 90, then a few thrusters, rats...maybe next time.
I modified my workout some by doing the reps for time. 3-6-9-12-15-18-21 reps of 60 lb thrusters and kipped pull ups. 18 and 21 reps of pull ups were 25 lb assists. Time: 23:27.4
Whats the song playing in the background??
Mikko is out for this year, shoulder injury.
For those complaining about lack of heavy lifting. This is a Crossfit competition, not a powerlifting competition. In my opinion CF is MetCon + Lifting, not Lifting + MetCon.
Plus, 12.2 Snatches got pretty heavy!
12.5 is a good test of functional strength and fitness.

@Joe-fiT I agree. Rhabdo is serious. YTherefor I would like to know about your broher's incident. May I ask the circumstances of this occurrence? Did your brother not hydrate post wod? How old is your brother? How long has he been doing Crossfit? How often does he crossfit, etc?
only 90 total :( Terrible form on thrusters!
A speciality course should be created for "effiecency tips" alone. With that all applicants must meet certain phyical requirments such as: High CF Total, Above avg. Fran and Helen times, etc.
Who's down?
7 pullups into round of 12. Did NOT PR. Disappointed big time.
As rx'd 102 reps. Two more reps than last year.
12 rds + 15 thrusters + 8 c2b
M/23/230
Finish whole workout with 3 seconds to spare...... this was brutal but felt great!
@#38 Eric,
The app is called "Timers Pro"
It was used in the 12.1, 12.2, and 12.5 videos.
I believe it's on iTunes for iPhone and iPad.
@54 there is no finishing work out you simply run out of time. You go up each round till 7min. Also to all the whiners put up and shut up. I think open once again has shown the fittest ie froning,Khalipa, clever.
90 reps - exactly the same as last year. Exactly.
Doing 12.5 Saturday with a good pullup bar. Today subbed:
For time:
800 meter run
10 Deadlift (225)
50 Double unders
50 Box jumps (24 ")
50 KBS (1.5 pood)
10 Power Cleans (135)
14:00
Legs too sore from last few days, so subbed 80lb shoulder press for the thrusters. Finished round of15+4 press.
THis is my first time doing this and almost one month to the day I started crossfit. I finished the 12 rep round and did 5 thrusters. My pullups were assisted (my biggest weakness)
F/39/5'3"/130
64 reps.
First time kipping. Feels weird, but chest-to-bar pullups weren't going to happen unless I tried.
99 reps as rx
wanted 100 but due to lack of 02 supply I couldn't remember that thruster rep 10 on the 18 rep round would equal total rep 100, haha.

Thank you, HQ, for the privilege of participating in the Open. For me, this was an experience of seeing where I'm deficient - in a CrossFit career in which I'm quite satisfied otherwise.
Good luck to everyone moving on to the next round, and especially my fellow Masters!
as rx'd:
5rds + 5 thrusters = 95 reps

Through Round of 9
12 100 lb thrusters, 9 inverted row
Subbed inverted rows for chest-to-bars
Was able to complete 1 underhand grip Pullup (1st time ever in a gym, completed one last night on a 2x4 at work.)
As rx'd, 112 reps (PR).
This time, I got through the 18 thrusters, and 4 reps into the 18 pull-ups. I paced this out pretty well - just about 18 reps per minute to start, slowed to more like 15 in the middle. Chest-to-bar pull-ups felt better, but still hard - had to break them starting in the round of 12. Legs started feeling it on the thrusters - broke those starting in the round of 15. 4 reps more than last year, but this one hurt more - maybe b/c I did this outside, and it was a warm, muggy afternoon.
In filter, as rx'd, 112 reps (PR).

Workout as prescribed 98 reps. Had I known I was 2 away from 100 I woulda tried to sneak those last 2 out somehow. I love these types of workouts before and 20 minutes after the workout. Reminds me of my days as a 400 Meter hurdles. Same feelings towards that race as this workout.
It's uncommon: french comment's from Canada, Québec
Tout un WOD, je suis complètement épuisé. C'était parfait. Tks Chris pour les encouragements.

Did a practice session on the thurs with 65lb thrusters, 123 reps
4 rounds plus 15 thrusters, for a total of 75 reps.
This is 8 pullups less than last time, which I blame on just working out very intermittently for the last few months.

Went pretty well until last 1/2 of PU on 15 round. Missed one & couldn't get rhythm back. Relegated to 1's from there forward. Tried to get one thruster at end. Not enough time.
Think I got 81 last year.

95 lb thrusters are still heavy; chest to bar pullups were not a problem
Just got around to this one this am.
106 reps as rx'd. Couldn't kip into c2b, our setup here just doesn't work for it, so I just had to pull higher.

round of 12 thrusters and completed 6 chest to bar
chest to bar at my weight is tough for me all the body wt. exercises kill me and burpees and box jumps. when my wt gets down under 215 it will be so much better for these body wt events. When i was 205, i could kill pull ups.
