Ok, that's a bit freaky. Because of my initials, one of my nicknames is DT and I was born on 11 July 1970 (check out the 'compare to' number). Might have to make this my specialty!

After looking at this, I am not sure how to approach this WOD. My deadlift max is 405#, so the 155# reps I do not think I would struggle with. I think that the hang cleans at 155 will be really tough, but that is what the workout is for. However, the 155 Push Jerk I do not think is even realistic for me. The last WOD I had to scale back the 115# PP to 80# which I got 3 rounds, and then had to scale back to 60# because I couldn't continue with 80. What would be the reccomendation for this WOD? I am excited to do this WOD, but I actually want to complete the 5 rounds. I dont know what to do.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Eric at March 9, 2012 9:43 PM

@ 12

I'm no crossfit guru (I'm fairly new myself) but if there is a weight you are not comfortable with always drop down. One of the most important things to remeber when liftin is there is no pride in injurying yourself trying to do something outside of your limitations. Scale back. Practice your form and the strength will come with time and training. Do not feel pressured to exceed your limits because WOD says so.

Comment #13 - Posted by: Chris at March 9, 2012 10:30 PM

Just did this two days ago and I have never felt soreness in my lats like this before. Definitely a no-joke WOD as many of the hero-workouts are. For my first time I completed this in 15:45.

Broke each exercise into sets
All unbroken

Comment #15 - Posted by: Kyle Spiteri at March 10, 2012 12:06 AM

@ #12...I personally would do one of two things, either pick one weight that i would most likely be able to do each round with out dropping the weight, or one that is a challenge but that i will be able to keep good form not to hurt myself and stick to it, get through the 5 rounds no matter what. Just a suggestion. hope this helps and good luck

Great to see something from HammerDown CF in Chantilly, VA! My wife and I were visiting a couple Christmases ago from California and she did a drop-in at HammerDown to do Cindy. We were so impressed with Todd Katz and his enthusiasm for and knowledge of CrossFit, as well as the facility itself. Congrats Todd and HammerDown!

Comment #28 - Posted by: I AM THE UPSETTER at March 10, 2012 8:47 AM

Last time I did this WOD was January 5, 2011. My time was 12:55. This summer I started to concentrate on strength with deadlift, bench press, and squat by hitting squats and presses twice a week while deadlifting once per week. I was doing minimal metcon stuff (averaged two metcons per week averaging ten minutes in length).

I did DT today for a PR time of 7:48. I'm definitely a lot stronger but I feel the biggest contributing factor to this large improvement in time was the.... HOOK GRIP! I started using it when deadlifting and decided to try it for "DT." Wow, HUGE difference. In the past my grip would hold me back, but with the hook grip, it is no longer a factor.

Thank you DT.

I had the pleasure of seeing Darby Nelson at the CrossFit Kids Gauntlet at the Arnold. I agree with her coach, it's sometimes hard to remember that she is only 17. At last year's Teen Challenge at the The CrossFit Games Darby tore her hands on the bar. When asked if she was going to pack it in here was here response: "No way! I've grown up in CrossFit looking up to the CrossFit Kids who came before me like the Martins. There might be a girl out there who's looking at me now, wondering if a girl can do CrossFit. I owe it to her to keep going."

Still gives me chills to think about that. Great video. Great kid.

Since today was 5 rounds for time (RFT), people post their times that it took to successfully complete all 5 rounds. Other information that is commonly added is your sex/height/weight/age, and if you scaled the WOD, what you used instead. Hope that helped!

Massive scale to 115 lbs due to very soer triceps from Games WOD 12.3.

Just about right with a stretch after wards.
Too a few breaks to make sure all was well between sets, before the DL and after, the rest straight through. Once again, grip strength a factor, but would have hurt myself trying this as RXd.

1 mile run, then:
First 2 rounds: 135 lb DL x 12 rep; 95 lb Hang Power Clean x 9 rep; 95 lb Push Jerk x 6 rep
Last 3 rounds: 145 lb DL x 12 rep; 105 lb Hang Power Clean x 9 rep; 105 lb Push Jerk x 6 rep
Time for WOD: 25 min 25 sec.
Increased weight on last 3 rounds because first 2, while difficult, weren't as challenging as the workout likely set it out to be.

DT crushed me.

35:39 rx'd for 6 rounds. Why 6 rounds might you ask when the WOD was only 5? Well...that's what happens when you get so smoked that you lose track of which round you're on and guess low.

Very disappointed with the time, but pretty happy that I essentially lifted my body weight for 6 rounds. Seriously considered scaling back after round 3..or was it 4? 2:42 was my fastest time, 7:10 was slowest. Looking forward to doing this one again.
