135# is my snatch pr so I felt ok about 7 but fell short of my goal of 30. Loved this wod (just wished it was longer, haha!)
It's so nice to see Josh and Jeff!
They're old school CF for me.. Josh was one of my very first coaches and one of the nicest guys ever. Jeff is hysterical and a cool as can be.
So happy to see them enjoying so much success at the Black Box.
<3 Good luck with the WOD, guys!
can we all just agree that froning isn't human? isn't there some kind of kryptonian division he can compete in?
Froning is super human, yes. Bailey isn't exactly among the living either.
74 reps @ Crossfit Anywhere.
I'm still learning how to do snatches, so I'm going to sub them for clean & jerk and include overhead squat strength work. Anyone know if the weights for the snatches posted are directly translatable to C&J? Or should they be adjusted? Thanks guys.
30 (My 1RM is 105)
64 reps playing it safe. Gonna try again Sunday. This one was fun.
145# is snatch PR
This is definitely a tough workout and test of fitness but is it appropriate? Yes its appropriate to weed out those who are not good at practicing crossfit. I think it almost perpetuates the saying that crossfit makes you better at crossit. I don't care how much of a work capacity you built up, if you never practiced high rep oly lifting this will stop you from entering. Where is the line between fitness and skill? And where does the crossfit games want to fall under. EIther way one hell of a workout and props to those who own this one!
Only 2 months of learning the snatch with a PR of 145. Happy with the first try.
30 reps @75 and only made it through 17 reps @135. I think with a better warm up I'll get all 30 but will have no chance at 165.
60 reps. Couldn't get 165 up.
60 reps. Couldn't get 165 up.
I should have practiced some heavy snatches in the warmup ( I didn't think I'd get past 60) and then found myself with 3 minutes and 100# in front of me. I had to take a broomstick and practice a few split snatches and fail a few times before I could get the weight up. .. Twice.
I'm not doing the open..... But I think I want to do this again.
Dangerous dangerous WOD, approach with much caution and a huge warm-up.
90 w the light weights - after 5 hrs sleep, 6 cups of coffee, and 1 burrito. Dig it.
56 reps. Seriously, could this WOD and the Open be more fun?
“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly know which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both”. From author James Michener
M 5'5" 145 lbs.
Is it better when only doing Crossfit for a couple of months to:
1) Do the women's weight Rx'd for entire 10 min.? or
2) Do the men's weight Rx'd for a lot less reps but the heavier weights?
Goals: To get body cut, ripped and continue building strength.
used 35kg, 60kg and 75kg (closest to the specified weights)
60 reps. Ran out of time whilst adding the next 15kg...was hoping to get at least one of those though! Will try again over the weekend.
male rx'd 47
There are already some insane rep numbers on here. Fellow Crossfitters you are all gods and I jealous.
M 51 6'2" 195
my PR is only 140
I'm going to scale the workout like this:
65, 100, 115, 130 and I'm going to only do 20 reps per round - otherwise I'll never get a chance to do the higher weights
30 reps rx'd
I signed up for the "minors" division and can't seem to find the load scales for my age class. Is there one? Can anyone help?
45 reps. I'm terrible at snatch.
Only been crossfitting since January, and 75lbs was the heaviest snatch weight I'd done prior to this WOD . I'm happy with a 3 rep pr at 135.
Really inspired by those in the 60+ rep range. Wonder what's next!!?!
So, I start with 30 reps with 75 p, then going higher and higher and try to Do 30 reps through all the weights in 10 min? Correct?
M/33/5'7"/155 60 rxd, i couldnt even get 165 to my chin. ive only been doin snatches for a few months when i started doin crossfit. maybe next year ill be up there in the 90s with the beast froning.
Anyone know if you can wear a weight belt for this one?
Great wod and games. Thanks Crossfit
51 reps as rxd
Will try it again later in the week.
33 reps. Prior to this WOD I hadn't tried a snatch over 75lbs. Happy with my new pr.
Jealous of those at 60+ reps.
Wonder what's next?!
easily one of my worst lifts so
75 x 30 reeps
95 x 30 reps
115 x 5 reps
in 10 minutes
68 reps as rxd
There's some confusion at my affiliate whether to count press outs or not? I know all passed competitions they are allowed, but it was stated ahead of time they are allowed.
Can someone from HQ post in writing whether they are allowed or not?
51 reps. Going to try again Sunday for 60.
Thanks to Pat for sharing Rohan's story.
72 @ the Master Men weight
44 reps as Rxd! I power snatched all of the reps. Need to work on technique, could have done better.
Should Elijah's score not count? He was not at a standing position at the start of the wod.
Was shooting for 31 since 135# was my PR from a few months back. Oops! Got 18 of those instead.
48 reps RX'd
Guess I have some work to do on establishing a new max. This one went well.
Yes Kurt weight belts are allowed.
Its about time. This wod sets a real standard. I train hard and operate my own box. Im in good shape. At times some students will ask me if I'm going to compete in the games. I just laugh. I tell them that the athletes in the games are in better shape than most of those in the olympics. There's no chance of me competing in the olympics and that's obvious to them when they think of it from that point of view- so there's no chance of me competing in the games! It's getting tiresome of every one who can do a burpee thinking they can compete in the games. They should try to respect the level of fitness that the top athletes have. So I'm thrilled about this open wod. It really delivers the reality check.it's like those people who audition for American idol- the ones who make us laugh. God bless everyone for exercising and pushing themselves. But let's respect the true top level athletes- me included.
50 scaled to 95 lbs.
R knee UG.
I did this one last night and posted my video to the games website. It was a great workout; the CrossFit programmers are geniuses!! 165# was a new record for me, so I was pretty elated by the end of this one!
61 reps as Rx’d
63 reps at RX. couldnt get under 165 fast enough. had 2 mins to do 165 but fell short
got to 165 with about 45 sec and walked up to bar with 10 sec left. got the last lift. not bad considering my snatch pr is 170.
Great to see Chris Hoppe on main site. for those of you wondering why he isn't competing in the open is because he had surgery to repair some discs in his back a few weeks ago. watch out next year though.
Me again. Are press outs allowed? Would like someone with authority to answer this question. My affiliate does not feel press outs count!
The 75 to 135 jump was the worst ha. Impressed if anyone gets up to 210!!
I have lot of work to do. I have never done snatches before so I spent the entire 10 min working on form with the 45 lb barbell. 45 reps. It was... difficult.
To excel at the day to day programming on CrossFit.com requires both strength and technique.....not to mention a whole lot of other components of fitness. The same skills are useful during the Open workouts, Regionals, Games, etc. The skills needed are rather universal.
Being intelligent and approaching a workout in a thoughtful manner (ie, a gameplan, instead of just slamming the gas pedal) should be an obvious requirement of being a mature individual capable of rational, independent thought. If someone chooses to rip through a workout or to systematically attack it, that choice is on the individual, not CrossFit HQ. We are all free to execute the workouts in whatever manner makes sense given our ability level.
Some workouts I can "slam the gas pedal on", and some I have to tap the brakes on. Life and sport demand both capacities, so that is how I train. However, "slamming on the gas pedal" should never imply being reckless. Although, I would be lying if I said that I have never been reckless.......however, that was my fault.......not CFHQ's.
It is tough to properly read the desired tone through typed text. I hope this does not come off as harsh or anything like that. I'm just providing my honest point of view.
btw....this workout kicked my butt. 64 reps total. 165lbs has never felt so heavy!
I had more in me. I have to learn to get under the heavier weight better
30 @ 75#
17 @ 95#
I tried to do this WOD as Rx'd, but i couldn't make the transition to the 135#. I felt fine and ran through the 75# set in 3 sets of 10 with a few breaths in between sets. But i couldn't get 135# overhead. I need more muscle endurance... is that something that will come in time by putting out max effort, or is there something i can do in addition to the WODs to help? Tomorrow marks the end of my first week doing CF.
60 reps Rx'd
* didn't have a chance to try 165...
im not sure if it makes a lot of sense to encourage everyone to participate in the open and come up with a WOD which is too heavy for 80% of the people, not to mention the risk of injury. I would be fine with it as the last WOD of the open or if the open would be more limited to advanced xfitters, but as this year more or less everyone seems to participate, it is a bit off from my view
69 reps at womens weight. Gonna hit this again with men's weight Sunday. Just wanted to get the feel because snatches are a weakness of mine. Great WOD though.
Made up last Monday's workout.
300m row. (did 1.5 minutes, since display is broken)
20 wall ball (5 kg ball to 9' target)
60 reps; at 75 and 135
Off to load some video and post the score
60 reps at 7:10
3 failed reps at 100#
Shoulder would not allow me to fully extend and hold the weight. Strength is there, shoulder joint still needs work.
Slowly coming back.
So I finished the 10 minutes with power cleans and got 20 in before the time expired.
58, men's weight
I'm not very good at snatches. I've never done them before I started crossfit. The closest thing I've done to get close to Olympic lifting was for high school football.
61 reps, did an additional 10 minutes. 5 for 165 and 5 to stare at 210...
DND: Spent most of the day working on Pre-Op check list
Pending Total Knee Replacement, 2 April, tri compartmental DJD,
Might have to do Kettlebell snatches, I'll see in a year
62 @ Masters Men's weight.
Debated doing Rx'd but since 135 is my BW and my 1RM, I opted instead to check my ego and do more reps. Need the practice. Was still plenty tough. Lost some time having to re-tape my thumbs, so be sure to do a good tape job before starting.
Rich looked stellar...hope he does it again balls out and films it, and analyzes both attempts. Dan Bailey is very strong, but not technically sound, and therefore not as efficient... one way u can tell is how he lands...kind of all over the place, landing on his toes alot cause he often jumps too early which makes him jump off of his toes, he's spending extra energy trying to receive the bar because he has to adjust to the inaccuracy of the timing/positioning of his jump...he does jump back every time which is a good idea but the bar doesn't always come with him...he's losing a lot of hip power as a result (not translating to the bar). if you watch Rich, every rep is almost identical to the previous.
W/U: double-under, 50x; erg row, 20 cal.; 24" box jump, 10x; dynamic stretching of shoulders; 45# hang power snatch, 10x.
As Rx: 45 reps.
Weighted bar dip, 80x4 - 95x3 - 105x2.
OHS, 3x5 at 110-125-140.
C/D: static band stretching of shoulders.
Due to a left shoulder injury, each snatch rep was done cautiously (1 rep about every 15 seconds). Lost more strength on the weighted bar dips than I had estimated (my intent was 3x5). OHS felt okay.
Weights were 45/75/100 (Women's weights). I can't snatch 135, so no sense in trying it as Rx.
58 as rx'd great stuff rich and dan
actually thought I would do better
165 was harder than I thought. knew 210 was out of reach (my 1 rm)
not as rxed:
30 rep 45 lb ss
30 rep 65 lb ps
Used women's weight
30 @ 75#
25 @ 135#
Lost some time when I ripped a callus off my left hand. Plan on trying again.
30 reps @ 35kg
11 reps @ 45kg (old PR)
1 rep @ 50kg (new PR)
Still fried from Zimmerman and weighted dips 2 days ago, so took it easy. Maybe try Open WOD 12.2 tomorrow or Sunday.
w/u - 30 sec Samson, 5x (feet-on-bench pushups, scap pushups, situps, dips), 45-65-75-85 x 5 snatch work, 1 min easy row ~20spm
w/o - 3x 500m row, 90 sec rest in between. R1 = 1:44.5, R2 = 1:45.1, R3 = 1:45.9
c/d - 1 min easy row ~24spm
Rules question for 12.2
The WOD description states "In the Snatch, the barbell goes directly from the ground to overhead in one motion without stopping at the shoulders."
My question is what is the rules with a press out. Rep or No rep
Example: Athlete pulls weight from ground. Weight travels all the way to forehead level. Athlete then stands up with weight fully locking it out and finishing the movement.
Only Snatched a handful of times before this WOD 135 was most I've ever done...
Got up 64 reps Rx'd, 165 was pretty heavy! Going to take this one on again in 2or3 months after a little more Snatch practice. I have to say I'm loving every second of these games!! This year=fun, then ready to train for next year!!!
Never attempted a snatch until last night when I tested the 75 pound weight to get the feel. 135 started feeling much heavier after 5 reps - really slowed down after that.
59 reps, so pissed that I missed 60.
62 reps mens weights RX! Pretty happy bout this one!!
Geezer scaling - 69
35 as rx'd, garage, no warmup
Jessica - 77 reps
Went too slowly on the 135s. Great WOD though!
Tough workout today, bad weather and sore back
I may be missing something simple but how does this "line" TRIsect the spine and Bisect the pelvis? What does that mean?
havn't snatched in ohhhh 7 months so good times
60 reps, just couldn't get under 165
First time doing snatches.
135 were mostly split
30 @ 75
12 @ 95
30 @ 75 lb
20 @ 95 lb (couldn't lift the 135)
30 @ 45#
30 @ 75#
After 3 reps at 75# I started laughing--laughing at myself for having figured out how I'd load up the bar for 100#; I knew better than to bother thinking about 120....
Masters Men's Weight; 64 Reps
45 pound Snatch, 30 reps
75 pound Snatch, 30 reps
100 pound Snatch, 30 reps
120 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible
Masters Women's Weight; 78 Reps
35 pound Snatch, 30 reps
55 pound Snatch, 30 reps
75 pound Snatch, 30 reps
90 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible
The line starts behind the neck comes down through the chest and once again at the hip (think S curve or Lumbar curve) where at the pelvis it splits.
Getting back into Crossfit after knee injury...
age 22 bw 170
52 reps as rx'd
i kinda psyched myself out on those snatches at 135. to be honest, i probably coulda finished those up. winding up and organizing before the lift really helps. k star is the man.
I've been weightlifting almost exclusively for 3 months, and it paid off today.
doing workouts at local YMCA so no bumpered plates and i haven't practices dumping anyway.
got 30 at 45 so officially score 30 but did that in 5:10 so did 15 more with 55. jump to 75 too big for me.
by the way...i am sore everywhere today!
82 reps...BUT, I misread the instructions and did the 55+ masters loads. OOPS!
In a bizarre turn of events, after a short rest period, I loaded 120 lbs and did 5 singles. My PR up to this point was only 125 lbs.
I loaded 135...managed 3 single reps...NEW PR!
I loaded 145...failed first try...NEW 1 RM on second try!!
I'll have to try the correct weight this Sunday. I'm shooting for 61....
Previous 1RM was 135. Followed this one with 3 rounds of Tabata rowing.
62 reps as rx'ed with bad technique and steel plates... Need to work on both items - jeez.
Did 45 reps at 75 lbs I cant snatch 135 yet
Those of us in the Chiropractic and Physical Therapy professions applaud this Brutal CF Games WOD, as it will surely provide business for years to come! Stay Strong Crossfitters! Remember to warm up, and I'll see you soon(er or later)!
M 51 6'2" 195 2yrs s/p massive rotator cuff tear surgery
Thought long and hard about doing this one, but I've been working on my snatch (plus I'm still pretty dumb).
75lbs X 20
100lbs X 20
120lbs X1 = 41 reps (1RM = 140)
Tried to balance pushing myself a little hard but did not compromise form
Subbed 75#, 95# snatch
Row 500m - 1:40.3
2012-03-03: 60@11:14. 75/115. 3:22/7:42.
no barbell, had to use dumbbell's instead
30x 35 lbs right then left handed
30x 55 lbs right then left handed
Failed miserably here. Couldn't snatch 135 pounds today, although I could in the past. Used the remaining time to snatch 115 pounds for 10 reps.
M/6'2/205/ 63 reps. Loved it
CFWU-2. Run 400m, Superman, Burgener, mobility work
60 reps. Needed to go faster on later reps at 135. Land behind jump to get better hip opening.
As much as i love doing crossfit, i cant snatch at 165 :( had to do female weight
1 mile run, then:
Snatch: 30 rep x 75 lbs; 10 rep x 115 lbs in 10 minutes (40 reps total), then another 5 rep x 115 lbs, then:
4 rounds of: 10 ring pushups (elevated feet); 55 lbs kettlebell swings, then:
5 minutes on strider, 5 minutes of treadmill
2.5 mile run
20 75# Snatch
10 135# Cleans
50 Weighted Sits
25 push Ups
Was in a hurry
20 @ 45 warmup
10 @ 75 warmup
30 @ 75 about 5 minutes, loaded up 135lbs - fail
12.2 Masters Men:
30 @ 45
30 @ 80
12 @ 95
Wow, for once I'm kinda glad to be OLD! Nice work Kevin.
3/3 midday, 4th WOD in a row, 154/167, 120cal
75# x 30 in 7:07 (10 then 5's)
Failed 135# twice
105# x 6
Gave myself 2 extra minutes due to wasted time at 135#. Might have squeaked out a few more reps if I went straight to 105# after 75#. Not sure what I was thinking.
Did the first 30 in under 3 minutes. Then the first few 135s kind of wiped me out. I was plodding through the rest of it.
Did this 3.3 -- went with 55+ mens weights
(30 @ 45#, 30 @ 75#, 15 @ 100#)
w/u - 30 sec Samson, 5x (el-feet pushup, scap push, sit, dip), 45# snatch x 5, 9-7-5 for time of 35# dbs + dips = 1:30
c/d - 45# Ripp-style barbell curl, 35# reverse wrist curl x 2, Tabata L-sit progressions
90x @ 75/100/115
I injured my knee playing football during the weekend, therefore I had to lighten the load. I didn't realize how much I love crossfit until I injured myself. Good thing I'm only going to be couple weeks out from full strength.
With respect to wod 12.2 Is the contested movement the snatch, or the snatch grip clean and half ass press from the chin? I understand pressout is allowed and muscle snatch is allowed.I really respect the effort of these athleletes and its a testement to these guys tenacity that they can move such heavy loads overhead. I'm just concerned about potential for injury.I think the load is too heavy for the masters 50 54 age group. Otherwise the programing is brilliant.
38 reps, split snatch on 8 @ 135
Added 2 , practiced speed under bar, felt much cleaner as had to rely on technique.
43 as rx'd... The jump in weight was much worse than I thought it would be!
first 30 in about 2 min with wt change.
Changing wt at 8 min.
Started attempts at 165 at 9.00.
Got one as time expired.
30 x 20kg
19 x 35kg
Women's weight (only my third crossfit WOD, and first time ever doing snatches so decided to go easy)
@ Djj finally someone that shares my views! People need to realize there is a huge barrier between the top and the rest of us humans
45lb x 30
67 lb x 30
77 lb x 12
I got 48 reps. First 30 in under 2 minutes, next 18 in the next 8. Pleased, actually.
Day 65 of the burpees...then:
38 reps as rx'd.
Happy as 60kg is my 1rm for snatch
