If you don't have 15lb plates for the 75lb reps and you're using the smaller weights do you still have to touch and go or just go beneath the knees?

Comment #6 - Posted by: Luke Schafer at February 29, 2012 6:08 PM

First attempt going about half speed.....52. That 165# is gonna SUUUUUCCCKKKK

12.2 rules!! i love it!! jump and land!!

Comment #9 - Posted by: coach b at February 29, 2012 6:29 PM

From "no skill required" and "favors the little guy" to one of the highest skill movements we have, plus "favors the big/strong guy". Great 1-2 punch. The joke is on everyone that was griping about WOD 12.1. Why didn't I see this coming. :-)

This is going to be a game changer!!

Good day off

Comment #15 - Posted by: Steve at February 29, 2012 6:38 PM

Great work CFHQ, I'm sure no one will get hurt on this one movement complex lift repeated 100 or so times.

WOD 1 - Do burpees for 7 mins
Wod 2 - Do Snatches for 10 minutes

...slightly disappointed in the creativity. So far 2011 was better. Time to go warm up the shoulders.

Comment #16 - Posted by: M at February 29, 2012 6:39 PM

62 reps (which is 2 reps at a PR weight)

Comment #17 - Posted by: Kevin - CFMoncton at February 29, 2012 6:45 PM

Did 5k

Comment #18 - Posted by: Pat at February 29, 2012 6:57 PM

the girls weights are proportionately lighter than the boys weights.

Isabel is 135 male, 95 female. Here, in the second round when male weight is 136, female is 75

still a good and fair test of fitness but you'd expect the top women to get more reps here than the top men

I like it... fundamental movements. Tough cardio followed by tough weight aerobic exercise. Well done HQ.

Comment #21 - Posted by: george at February 29, 2012 7:42 PM

Go Golden Eagles!

Comment #22 - Posted by: A. Melton at February 29, 2012 7:43 PM

@ m (comment 15) This is a competition to find the fittest in the world. If you can't do it then you simply can't do it. If you can't do it safely then you sure as hell shouldn't be doing it. As for the creativity who cares

Before everyone complains about the movement or weight remember why this is being run. It's not a competition for the average Joe to go in and suddenly find himself in regionals. it is to find the fittest in the world (or your region to start with).

On a brighter note I think the first workout definately favoured the little guy and now we see the big weights come in to even up the scores a little bit. I love it.

For the record this workout will see me stop at 30 reps as 60kg is 2.5kg more than my 1RM. With my Olympic lifting ability I shouldn't be going to regionals and this will weed me out from the top. Exactly what should happen.

Comment #23 - Posted by: Steve m at February 29, 2012 8:15 PM

For the first time in my life I'm wishing I was 55 years old or female.

Comment #24 - Posted by: Dick D at February 29, 2012 8:19 PM

What if we're doing this at a globo gym and they only have 10lb and 5lb plates in order to create the 75lb stage. Is it just below the knee as the marker for the start of the next rep?

Comment #25 - Posted by: Patrick at February 29, 2012 8:51 PM

I agree Steve M 23.

I will get some way into the 135s but am highly unlikely to finish them but in general, I think we can see a lot of people finish with 30 reps and then a load more finish with 60 reps

it's less inclusive than the burpees but nonetheless, it lets everybody know where they are at and that's what makes it a good test.

Comment #26 - Posted by: aussie crossfitter at February 29, 2012 8:51 PM

On a somewhat unrelated note; anyone know what app they are using on the iPads? I'm looking for something that shows the tap counts in such big numbers and can't seem to locate what they are using.

Comment #27 - Posted by: Royal at February 29, 2012 8:53 PM

What is something to eat for energy sometime before the WOD that will not add to the barfing sensation after ?

Comment #28 - Posted by: Max at February 29, 2012 10:34 PM

@Comment #28 @Royal: The app is called "Timers Pro".

Comment #29 - Posted by: Dominik at March 1, 2012 12:13 AM

I would be kinda surprised to see Lipson on top, since he didn't even do wod 12.1 At least I didn't see his score...

Comment #30 - Posted by: sven at March 1, 2012 4:01 AM

What day do you folks plan on doing 12.2?

Comment #31 - Posted by: Dustin Sealey at March 1, 2012 4:07 AM

Seconds Pro is the best timer for this sort of thing.

Comment #32 - Posted by: Daniel at March 1, 2012 4:09 AM

The Jonah Lehrer article reminds me of the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," which was one of Jim Carrey's best performances.

Comment #33 - Posted by: Doug at March 1, 2012 4:12 AM

I watched Lipson do his WOD at the L1 cert in Indy. He did a great job and had a very solid score. I am sure he will do well on this WOD

Comment #34 - Posted by: Mark at March 1, 2012 4:46 AM

62 reps. 165 is killer!

Comment #35 - Posted by: Evan at March 1, 2012 5:26 AM

Nevermind on the two barbells for lifting with but you could still use them to compare heights if HQ okays it.

Comment #36 - Posted by: dan at March 1, 2012 5:35 AM

i find it hard to believe that anyone other the than the TOP tier athlete is power snatching 165 30 times, after all those other reps and 205..gimme a break. Can't wait to see all the exaggerated scores. Definitely need something besides main site programming if you are even going to seriously compete. Ill be bottoming out at 135 for sure...

Comment #37 - Posted by: gymdavid608 at March 1, 2012 5:35 AM

The app they are using is called "Timers Pro"

What a great WOD!!!!

Comment #38 - Posted by: Andrew at March 1, 2012 5:43 AM

Did 12.2 today. Thought I'd only get like 3 reps into 135 because my snatch max is only like 165 maybe. However, got 51 reps total with someone really pushing. Very surprised and satisfied with my day.

Comment #41 - Posted by: mike zolo at March 1, 2012 6:19 AM

and.....there goes the little guys....Damnit

Comment #42 - Posted by: Lucas at March 1, 2012 6:19 AM

I think Steve m #23 said it very well. As someone solidly in the "small guy" end of the spectrum, I accept the reality that I will never excel at a competition that includes movements with absolute weights (not adjusted for BW). And when I do this WOD I will get 30 plus maybe one or two, since 135 is my BW and my 1RM. But as Steve says, that's exactly what should happen in a competition designed to find the fittest on earth.

Oh, and RF Jr.'s performance in that video was just incredible -- Dan Bailey too, but Rich certainly served notice to everyone else that he is ready to defend his title...

Great vids: Rich and Dan, and KStar's mobwod on prepping for 12.2

Rest day on 2:1 for me. Thinking, though, of trying a scaled 12.2 this weekend: 30 reps 75#, 30 reps 95#, and if there's time, see how many 115#'s I can get. Without rushing.

Comment #45 - Posted by: matt h 50 180# 1mar11 at March 1, 2012 8:36 AM

This is going to blowup the masters divisions, which is exactly what it's supposed to do. I say adapt.

I got my 30 reps in 3 minutes and actually loaded the bar for 135, but two misses were enough.

I like the programming and it will help me focus my training. For now, I'm top ten, but racing to the bottom.

Comment #46 - Posted by: Jim Evans, 50m, 190#, 6'0 at March 1, 2012 9:06 AM

Weighted pull-ups: 20-25-30-35-40-45-50. Stillno good at these.

Comment #47 - Posted by: Alan H. in Kabul at March 1, 2012 9:08 AM

My goal is 61 reps. Never snatched more that 145..and that was fresh not after 60 reps. 20 pound PR? Anything is possible. DO WORK

Comment #48 - Posted by: Brennan at March 1, 2012 9:34 AM

I did 12.2 today.

My 1 rep max for snatches is 105#

I didn't expect to get beyond 60 reps and then found out that I was there with more than 3 minutes to go. That's when I wished I had actually done some heavy snatches in the warmup. It took me 2 minutes to figure out how to do a heavy snatch... kind of split snatched it.... and ended with a score of...

I'm not in the open but I think I want to do this again as I am sure that with a bit better preparation, I could knock off a few more 100lb'ers.

Comment #49 - Posted by: JuliePlatt at March 1, 2012 10:28 AM

Too much, too heavy, no skill.
Love to see some clips of the Big-Boys belting this!

Practiced split-snatches for a while at 115

21-15-9 for time:
- Power snatches @ 95
- Overhead squats @ 95
- Hand-stand push-ups

Nice little ditty, messed up my timer though.

Comment #52 - Posted by: Anon at March 1, 2012 11:57 AM

60 - not enough time to add weight to bar to try for 61...damn

killed the legs/arms/elbows but awesome WOD

Comment #53 - Posted by: Youngblood at March 1, 2012 12:01 PM

Did 12.2 today... got 60 with about 15 seconds left, then 165 scared me.
Did 5 reps at 165 afterwards to make sure I could do it.

Comment #54 - Posted by: Jeff at March 1, 2012 12:03 PM

CrossFit Games Open 12.2

As rx'd. 64 reps.

Fun WOD. I said after last week I was hoping for something with a barbell - "be careful what you wish for", I guess. I am glad they went heavier with WOD 2 though.

This played out pretty much how I figured it would. Took 2 minutes to do the 75# snatches (15-10-5). Broke the "Isabel" portion into sets of 5, on the minute, for 6 minutes. That left me 2 minutes to get a few attempts at 165. I gave a shot at power snatching 165, but my pull by then was gone. I failed a 2nd time when I tried to squat snatch it. But fortunately, I was able to get in 4 good reps @ 165 in the last 90 seconds.

Whats the official rule on the press outs?

Comment #61 - Posted by: John C at March 1, 2012 3:50 PM

45 reps of 75 lb snatch
1st 25 were squat snatch
next 20 were power snatch

Comment #62 - Posted by: Kyle A. at March 1, 2012 4:28 PM

Sounds like press outs are fine. I saw a few from dan in the demo video and they counted

Comment #63 - Posted by: Nick J at March 1, 2012 5:23 PM

We went ahead and tried this....

As Rx'd
54 reps

As Rx'd
60 reps

I will be doing this again... I have to tie my wife after all!!!

Comment #64 - Posted by: Jeremy A. Olive at March 1, 2012 5:32 PM

Thanks Nick, I thought I saw some of Dans pressed out as well, but very close. Unfortunately, the person that will be counting and verifying my reps thinks they are not allowed.

I feel it needs to be stated in the rules somewhere, so there's no question.

Help Coach?

Comment #65 - Posted by: John C. at March 1, 2012 5:44 PM

I don't snatch nearly enough as haven't pr'd this lift in years. 52, felt good on the first few at 135, then nosedived. Good WOD, love benchmarking myself, this is now on the rotation.
