Holy crap! I am still am soar from CFT! Oh well I love Crossfit. 3-2-1 GO!

Comment #1 - Posted by: brent at February 20, 2012 5:41 PM

YES! Bench Press!! Time to get my pump on! Glad I decided to take a rest day instead of getting blown out tackling dear old Angie!

I am going to have to harness and hold back though -- do not want to get all blown out for THE OPEN!

Get ready fire breathers -- it is time to get jacked up! 3 2 1 BENCH PRESS!!!

Comment #2 - Posted by: Jake the Snake at February 20, 2012 5:59 PM

I am new to crossfit. When it says 1rep what does this mean? Thank you for your help. I am loving the workouts so far.

Comment #3 - Posted by: Nate at February 20, 2012 6:28 PM

#3- Nate

1 rep means to work up to a 1 rep max.

Example: Bench press 135x3, 155x2, 175x1, 185x1

Comment #4 - Posted by: Kyle McD at February 20, 2012 6:41 PM

that is crazy, spencer can get 341 over his head, and benches 281. i bench about 290, but i could not even get close to 341 overhead.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Jon at February 20, 2012 6:51 PM

Man, I wish I had numbers more like Spencer..... goddamn Muscle and Fitness programming ruining my early years.....

Comment #6 - Posted by: Eckers 22/M/6'/189lbs at February 20, 2012 6:53 PM

Nice work on the WOD demo!

I am more of an old school lifter, and approve of doing lifts "equipped" (e.g. wearing a belt, etc.) and noticed Spencer was wearing a belt in the video.

Have belts been allowed at the CrossFit Games in the past?

Also, love those wrist wraps! I have the same ones and really like them!

Comment #7 - Posted by: patrick at February 20, 2012 6:53 PM

Personally I wouldn't count Spencer's Bench Press. Too much bounce on the chest and he lifted his butt off the bench. In Power-lifting, both would constitute a no-lift. Awesome on everything else :)

Do you do any kind of skill exercise when you do these kind of workouts? If so what is usually good to do?

Comment #13 - Posted by: Loren L at February 20, 2012 9:06 PM

what does the 1 rep stand for new to this

Comment #14 - Posted by: lionel desulme at February 20, 2012 9:33 PM

1 rep means go for a 1 rep max. Do some lighter working sets to build up to it, taking maybe 3 shots at a one rep max. If you subscribe to the Journal, see Rippetoe's article on the crossfit total: http://journal.crossfit.com/2006/12/the-crossfit-total-by-mark-rip.tpl

1 Rep Max means the heaviest weight you can lift for 1 repetition. This is something you have to work up to over a number of lifts.
200 - Good Lift
210 - Good lift
220 - Good lift
230 - No lift
225 - Good lift
227.5 No lift

1 Rep Max = 225 etc.

Pulled from Sun CFT and todays wod.
Deadlifts 255-255-255
Bench press 145-145-145

Heavy overhead is not good for my shoulder.
Have not benched in quite a while.
Felt strong but shoulder limited poundage.
Tomorrow will pull squats and cleans from wods.

@41 joel, not a good idea. Use the hook grip instead. Thumb wrapped around the bar first then fingers lay on top of the thumb. A little uncomfortable at first but much stronger grip and you dont have to squeeze the bar as tight

First day of Cross fit so I was just practicing form today.

I also did chest yesterday so I did not attempt it today.

The only thing that I was having trouble with was overhead squat, it felt like my back was getting really tight so I couldnt go deep with my squat. Does this mean my form is wrong or do I just need to get more flexible and it will get less tight as I progress?

without mobility WOD i could never hit above 135 with overhead squat. tight chest and jacked internal and external rotation. not to mention years of impact sports. be supple and your lifts and comfort to lift will rise.

Ask me about my deadlift...now I'm feeling myself.

I am currently deployed for the last 3 months. So, I put my pt gear back on and took a run at it as rx'd 135#, 6:48.........

Mixed these lifts in on other days:
Clean: 220. Failed @230. Didn't do a good job landing behind initial foot position. Therefore hips not open well.
Bench: 255. Got greedy & tried 270 instead of 265 since 255 went up so easy
OHS: 195. Not bad, but couldn't get 200. Need more confidence dropping quicker 195 so good since hips went back so well.

Good day. Cleans felt a little heavy; I barely made 255 - but then again, that is 5 pounds off my max. Bench is a modern-day PR, 5 pounds off my all-time PR (set in 1999). I continue to feel more comfortable in overhead squats. I actually did 230 twice - on the first rep I wasn't sure I got low enough, so I did it again. Should have had 240 - I was losing my balance coming back up, and had to bail inches away from lockout.
