"It is a good rule in life never to apologize. The right sort of people do not want apologies, and the wrong sort take a mean advantage of them."

Excited for tomorrow! It'll be good to compare to my last CFT!
Did it Friday... Lost 70 lb off my total since last time, down to 935. First time getting pinned on a squat without a spotter -interesting! Guess I need to add some strength bias to my programming.
Calling B.S. on the quote of the day.
When I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
If I screwed up: If I missed it, lost it, misunderstood it, got overly sensitive about it, if I was at fault & I know it....
I'm going to do everything in power to make rectify the situation.
Including saying, "I'm sorry".
Now, I hope don't end up with some sorry lifts for the day! :)
Did this on Monday, 2/13. 1045
Would you guys do a WOD after this like a Football CF?
Dumb quote. People that do not say sorry are typically d i c k s.

Regarding the quote of the day, one thought that comes to my mind is, "What would happen if every single person in the world adopted this rule?" Would WE (i.e. society/humanity) be better, or worse off as a race? My overwhelming thought is that WE would be worse off.
I find that applying this "test" to scenarios is very enlightening.
If everyone lied, would WE be better or worse?
If everyone was honest, ...
If everyone did drugs, ...
If everyone walked in the others moccasins, ...
If everyone put in a full days work, ...
If everyone CrossFit, ...
If no one ever said they were sorry, ...
If everyone who felt sorry said they were sorry, ...
That's a long way of saying #3 Nessa, you hit the nail on the head.
Sorry is blinders off. Sorry is altruistic. Sorry is awareness. Sorry is hopeful.
Dave T.
What Shane Sevcik didn't mention and is lost in the proportion of the photo is the fact that the kettlebell is 55lbs (in a continuous no-rest snatch movement for max reps in 5min). If it stopped or was dropped, then the competitor was done. All 1 min after a 2K row. My elbow still hurts. He did well.
It's just my opinion but it's ok the say, "I'm sorry". Unless one has no intention of changing a poor behavior or is saying it in a hurtful way, it should be said to acknowledge and address the wrong.

Sunday musings…
1) Character. CrossFit doesn’t create character, it exposes it.
2) Insourcing. Bringing work and jobs into your locale rather than moving them out. I’m a fan, but I’m also a realist. Job number one for a business is to stay in business. But if you can do both…
3) Outsourcing. My father and my mother-in-law have some very fundamental things in common. They are unaware of this, and if aware both would most probably resist the comparison. When presented with the existential option of doing what would best improve the chances of business survival or remaining true to an existential value, both chose option ‘B’.
My Dad had a business making a product where domestic production was disappearing. Faced with this reality (my Dad was a very good businessman—this reality did not escape him) he simply could not abandon the people who worked for him or the community in which they all worked. He did not outsource, and one by one they were bled away, a workforce of 800 slowly reduced to 250 or so, until there was nothing left to do but leave the business.
My mother-in-law Sandy founded and ran an alternative school in the 70’s. When we met in the 80’s the school was on solid ground, but no money was being made and the prospects for growth that would keep the school on solid financial ground were limited by the founding principles. I chatted with her about how she could generate more money in order to safeguard the school (and her) financially. The mere thought of making decisions with revenue as a goal was so anathema to her that she categorically refused to even have the conversation. Now she has to consider selling the school.
Lesson? There are really hard choices before us, not only in business but also in life. There are always consequences from the decision, even when we are so sure that we have been true to some core, essential, existential truth. We can simultaneously win and lose.
Sometimes it’s hard to figure out which is which.
4) Open. You’re in, right? Registered and ready for the first WOD this Wednesday? Maybe you didn’t register but your gonna do the workouts anyway. Great! What are your goals? What’s your strategy? You HAVE given this some thought, haven’t you?
Like I told you last week, you are I aren’t going to the Games. Only ~1000 of us will go to Regionals as individuals, and maybe another ~2000 or so as team members. Probably not you and me, though. We’re doing the Open for all the reasons I mentioned last week. We’re part of a community and this is how we take part. We’re fortunate enough to be able to do pretty much exactly what the best CrossFitters will do, just like we’re playing Pebble Beach after Phil and Tiger. We’re gonna do this because we own it.
But how? Think about this a bit. No going on cruise control here. What are we going to do?
The Open WOD’s will arrive during our training. We can simply apply them as such, another training tool, and simply do them in the course of the week as just another WOD whether we send in our score or not. Perfectly legit way to be a part of this gig. We can work them into our training and use them as a little measuring stick of our own personal fitness, you vs. you. Another reasonable application.
Ramp it up a bit and compete. After all, The Open is a part of the CrossFit Games season, and this is the Fitness of Sport! There will doubtless be scads of local competitions using these WOD’s, some within individual Affiliates, some just among friends. Any place there’s a clock or a scoreboard (or both) and more than one athlete you’ve got a contest. Why the heck not?
Maybe you’ve been aiming for this for months, ramping up your training, tightening your nutrition, clearing your schedule. For you this is serious. Each week is about planning your attempt, the timing, pre-WOD rest, maybe a dry run. Maybe you’ve got a real chance and maybe not. Who cares? The point is that YOU care!
This is your CrossFit Open. Don’t let it drive you. Pop the clutch. Grab the wheel. Decide what it means to you and where you will drive. 3 more days to set your course.
Occupy the CrossFit Games!
I’ll see you next week…

The quote of the day is fine IMO. What most people here seem to not realize is you can admit a mistake to someone without apologizing. If you can admit you're wrong to someone I don't think an apology would be necessary as the right kind of people would accept the admittance.JMTC.

I think the guy/girl who said that quote meant it more as the apologies will invoke one of two possible responses: from people who don't want to hear excuses, but rather want you to just fix what you did wrong and get over it. On the other hand, the wrong type of people will mistreat you if you apologize because they'll see it as an excuse to put you and your abilities down. Ergo don't apologize. In other words, as I see it, the point is learn from your mistakes and move on. Don't dwell on them.
that's how I interpret it anyway ...

So, broken finger kind of drilled training for about 1.5 months. Lost 10# off of my squat PR and everything else was stable. First time doing a true CFT since January 2011. Meh, I'll take it and supplement my current general CF training with a 5/3/1 or something.

My first shot at the CrossFit Total.
My wrists and gripping the bar were the problem with the heavier weights on the Back Squat?
Was quite cautious on the deadlift as I've had back problems before, but the press was my absolute max. I've got a number to beat.. woot - want to do it again tomorrow!(but won't)

Having trouble getting down on the back squat due to right hip flexor tightening up. Anyone have any mobility or strengthening tips? I am flexible, just feels weak.
