Doug & Brendan, way to push on the WOD demo! That definitely looks like a gasser!

I hope all is well out there in Oz.

Comment #2 - Posted by: Pat Sherwood at February 14, 2012 5:21 PM

Wow, that's creepy how similar this WOD is to the one my friend and I just did. I'll be doing this sometime next week...

Comment #3 - Posted by: Aaron S. at February 14, 2012 5:26 PM

ya know you are addicted when you see a WOD demo and think, "that looks like fun!"

Whats a Fire Breather (in crossfit terms haha)

Comment #6 - Posted by: Codey Paulsen at February 14, 2012 5:58 PM

@ Codey Paulsen

Fire Breather: noun: ever worked out so hard that it feels like your breathing fire/blood? this is a fire breathers comfort zone!. Also see: 2 minute Fran.

Looks like everyone's kicked a goal!

Comment #8 - Posted by: Prolix at February 14, 2012 6:06 PM

I've always been told to do three single jumps as a substitute if I can't do double-unders. However, I never feel like I'm breathing heavily after singles. They just feel like an extra rest in the middle of the workout, even when doing 3x the normal amount of jumps. Can anyone recommend a harder substitution? I actually can string together double-unders as of a few days ago, but I'm no where near good enough to stick with them for all eight rounds. I would just like this to be as hard a workout as possible, despite that particular skill deficiency.

Hey guys, I'm new to this, for shuttle sprint's is it a basic 25 yard sprint, or is it suicide sprint's increasing at 5 yard increments? Thanks for the feedback

Comment #12 - Posted by: Ricky at February 14, 2012 6:22 PM

Yo Ricky it looks like 5, 5 yard sprints. Have fun this looks like a burner can't wait til tomorrow!

Yeah Dougy and Brendan!! Great to see some aussies leading the way- BOO YEAH!!!

Comment #14 - Posted by: Dan at February 14, 2012 6:38 PM

@Kenny #9

A more difficult substitute would be the gymnastics "tuck jump". It would be 1:1. You will undoubtedly find this more difficult! I can do double unders, and have gotten to the point where they are more like rest to me in WODS. I'll still switch up every so often and throw these in there. They are pretty awful, lol.

Comment #15 - Posted by: Suzanne/F/40 Year old BEAST at February 14, 2012 6:39 PM

So on the rest is it total time or time each round and add the times together for total time?

@#37 - Parker if you watch the WOD demo you will see it. Basically, it means sprint 5 m, turn around and sprint 5m back; repeat until you have completed 5 sprints. You should end at the far marker from where you started.

If you can string some together I would suggest just doing double unders. If the rope comes around for the second pass under your feet and you miss it count it as a rep. This way you work on the skill and eventually master it.

Are the lunges each side is one rep, or each lunge is one rep?
Someone answer please?

Comment #47 - Posted by: kororinpa at February 15, 2012 5:06 AM

Correct me if im wrong, but I am pretty sure each time you jump and land a lunge it counts as 1 rep.

So jump, land right foot front = 1 , jump, land left foot front = 2 and so on.

#37 Parker, The Shuttle Sprint is 25 yards total, so you will be doing 5 5 yard sprints at a time. So mark off 5yds (15ft) and run back and forth between the marks a total of 5 times each round.

#45 The 15 lunges are 15 total, usually HQ will post "each leg" if they wanted more :)

Hope this helps! 3,2,1, Go!

Subbing singles for doubles is NO COMPARISON! Tuck Jumps is the best sub for doubles! Saw some posts about the "sprints" being easy and the rest being to long. The Shuttle is a sprint! If you actually sprint, the 90 seconds is well needed. This is CrossFit.. Do Work!

Im one of many who crossfit in your average "globoGym" and for awhile i was doing it by myself and today i finally got my friend to join me. It really helps when you have someone to compete with. which leads to this, during the WOD he was ready to cash it in and stop on round 5 so i pushed through to Hurry up and finish the round to help push him! After the WOD he said he wouldnt have made it with out me pushing him... This just shows how there is power in Numbers. Crosfit builds Character and and mental toughness! My favorite word ADVERSITY

This was a fun and challenging wod. I've been working the DUs for the past couple of weeks and avoided subbing when they are programmed. For all of you posting your sub-18:00 times,....please tell me you are not counting the :90-sec rests. Considering 7 :90-sec rests amounts to 10m:30s, that means you are claiming to have busted through each round in LESS THAN one minute. I don't think so. Let's just suppose for one second that you are The Flash. You're telling me you can do all 4 exercises in less than :15secs/each. 10 burpees (which take 2 secs/rep to do correctly) puts you at :20. So, you have :40 to do 20 dubbs, 15 jump'n lunges and 5x5 shuttle sprints?? The only way this is happening is if you had the help of Marty McFly. I'm just sayin'.....
Now, if your "17:30" time isn't including rest, then I retract my call-out. But, without specification of that, I'm calling BS. I'm not hatiin', I'm just sayin'. Also, the guys in the WOD demo video were averaging 2 secs per rep for the burpees, and :18-:20 secs for the dubbs.

25:18 with breaking burpees and jumping lunges into subsets on later rounds - This was my third Crossfit workout ever. I'll have to say, I was pretty skeptical when I decided to give Crossfit a try. I mean, how good of a workout could you possibly get in less than 30 min? Then I did this...I've decided to put my skepticism on hold until I'm completing all WODs as rx'd with maximum intensity. If I ever get there and feel like I'm not getting a good enough workout, I might try something else. Somehow, I doubt that will ever happen!

I did each round in about 50 secs. I wasted some time getting my rope and getting that going... only becauses my jump rope winds a bit.
This was fun... TOO MUCH REST given... should have been 60 secs rest. I was thinking that another fun way to do this would be to reduce the rest by 10 secs. each round... 90 secs rest the first, 80, 70, etc. By the end you would have like 10 secs rest and go again...
I think this would be a good format for a lot of WODS actually... especially for the Games. Similarly, they could keep the rest the same but increase the rep count each round, like 5 for everything the first round, 10 the second round, 15 the third... by the 8th round you would be doing 40 reps of each movement.. killer with only 90 secs rest after doing 35 of each just a minute ago... both formats would be fun.
this was a lot of fun... honestly a welcome change to the normal couplets and triplets and high weight strength workouts.. all good stuff, but something like this was a fun way to change things up. I was looking forward to kind of playing.. having fun and just working out... I did.

31:45 rx'd - jump lunges were no joke, and I'm convinced my ankles were not made for shuttle turns, but awesome workout all the same.

Subbed DU with jumping side to side over small (8") box.
Forgot to rest 90 seconds.

17:21 (with rest between rounds that would be 27:51, except my time per round would probably have been slightly less, so maybe 26:00)

The best I did on double unders was single, double, single for about 12 in a row. The rest were random and broken. I'm getting better, though. My time would have been a whole lot better if I had the technique down. Practice, practice, practice, I guess.

1st day at Crossfit. 26:32 with last 90sec break included. Double unders weren't consistent at all though... lots of single jumps mixed in there. Hope to see this improve a lot over time.
Great workout!

Did this one finally, 29:10, subbed the double-unders for 40 singles. I was surprised it took that long though, my burpees were slow but unbroken, a few of the jumping lunges were broken.

Burpees not bad after round 2 or 3. Decided to just go faster. Need to do this on ALL WODs! Lunges are what slowed me down. Remembering to keep torso vertical at all times helped on last round. DU not bad. Couple of breaks around 18-19 due to mental fatigue. Runs not bad. Got tangled jettisoning rope a couple of times.
