Whats a dumbbell split clean?

Comment #3 - Posted by: Don at February 10, 2012 6:42 PM

15 splits cleans each leg or total?

Comment #4 - Posted by: Ken at February 10, 2012 6:46 PM

@ Don, watch the WOD Demo it shows them there

@ Ken, I had the same question, after doing a little bit of research it seems as if each leg counts as one rep and it doesn't matter which leg you use.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Justin at February 10, 2012 6:51 PM

I liked that they gave times. WOD demos dont always do that, and it helps to give a frame of reference of what to shoot for. Most of the time we mere mortals wont be at the same level, but at least you have a ballpark figure.

Comment #6 - Posted by: matt at February 10, 2012 6:56 PM

I'm not a fan of DB cleans from the floor. It forces people to round their backs. Happy slipped discs!

Comment #7 - Posted by: Joe at February 10, 2012 7:20 PM

sigh...joe #7...nothing "forces" you to round...

i might gag if i hear someone say "i'm not a fan of..." one more time

Comment #8 - Posted by: Mel/38m/5'10"/175 at February 10, 2012 7:27 PM

Sigh... Mel #8 ... there wasn't one rep on the wod demo without rounding.

You might gag if you slip a disc and can't do a wod anymore

Comment #9 - Posted by: Joe at February 10, 2012 7:36 PM

Joe if you do cleans they shouldn't have a rapid acceleration from the floor, and only from mid-thigh. From the floor it should be nothing but a deadlift (consider suitcase Deadlift for dumbbells)

Constructive criticism is a good thing. Crossfit is a revolutionary exercise program, but that doesnt mean its perfect. Its possible *gasp* that the almighty crossfit gods have created certain exercises that have an inherent risk of injury, and Im not a fan of that. We can find creative ways to mitigate that, and addressing the problem is the first step.

On any type of split with a higher rep range is it better to alternate legs so for better balanced strength, or use it to build form for a max lift?

Comment #30 - Posted by: BoBBy at February 11, 2012 7:39 AM

split clean is just that, you land in the split position each time. just like a split jerk. i like alt legs on this wod the cleans get old real quick. Thanks MCpl Doyle your sacrifice is appreicated in an a day and era that so many live for self its nice to know some still live and fight for the collective whole of us.

I've always enjoyed this WOD for its inventive hellishness. It's hard for me sometimes to think of sacrifice and loss during these 'heroes.' Instead, I imagine that this particular guy is back for a day, among friends; everyone's hitting the WOD together and having a good time.

Holy grip strength - I thought this was gonna be an easy WOD until halfway thru the first round of PU's. I had the realization that the evil genius at HQ had succeed again. No easy WOD's! My forearms are busting. I feel like I trained for a mercy contest...

Comment #121 - Posted by: Jeff A. at February 12, 2012 10:37 AM

pullup subs - 16:23

R1-5: 40# DB split cleans
R1-3-5: 21 gravitron + 70 L-pullups
R2-4: 21 Jumping pullups

No elbow or shoulder pain for any movement--that's progress. Especially pleased and surprised right shoulder is good with DB split cleans. Focused on back flat, slow off floor like DL, quick jump to get under DBs. Next time, breathe more, rest less, do fewer jumping pullups.

w/u - 30sec samson, 7x (push, scap push, sit, dip), 5x 40# db split clean + jumping pullups

c/d - walk dog

DLs before WOD.
13:46; does not count as PR due to inadverantly doing 10 from the hanging position. DBs were unbroken rounds 1-4. PLUPs were broken due to grip in rounds 2-4. Dig deep, keep a slow/steady pace, and don't put the DBs down for a PR.
