If I can't do DU very well any suggestions on a substitute? I can do a 3:1 ratio with normal jump roping. I usually can only do 2 or 3 DU in a row before messing up somehow.

Comment #4 - Posted by: Seth at February 2, 2012 5:22 PM

Hell yeah Chuck!

Comment #5 - Posted by: Russell at February 2, 2012 5:28 PM

I"m a huge Chuck Carswell fan! Looking forward to buying you a drink in Carson, Brother.

Comment #6 - Posted by: bingo at February 2, 2012 5:51 PM

I learned DUs back in boxing and the trick is to pogo off your toes and spin the rope faster. The mistake most people make in the beginning, (I did too) is to try to lift the legs high. Power jump and keep the legs straight and you'll get it no prob. (Now as for the 275lb deadlift for a 10, that's a whole 'nother story. Much Love Chuck Carswell. Hell even Polaski's time is crazy)

Comment #7 - Posted by: Joe at February 2, 2012 5:57 PM

My concrete is more disturbed while doing burpees than that snow.

Hey...just noticed that the "Compare to" link is from January 2011. What a perfect opportunity to learn how to use this very important asset here. You may notice...ahem...a certain poster doing Newbie stuff if you do.

Just saying...

Comment #10 - Posted by: bingo at February 2, 2012 6:13 PM

Any suggestions/advice on establishing a rhythm for Dbl. Unders? I can't seem to get them. It is rare that I can even get 3 in a row without banging my toes with the rope.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Kevin at February 2, 2012 6:17 PM

Love some Chuck! Miss you buddy. I'm also a big fan of Jessica's!! Great post today. Thanks CF! <3 Christmas CrossFit Invoke

Comment #12 - Posted by: Christmas at February 2, 2012 6:28 PM

@ Kevin

what I did is a DU ladder ie. do 1, when ready do 2, and so on until in 3 attepts you can't get the number, then go back down the ladder. I was able to get over 20 in a short time. do it like 3-4 days a week. this is also great for any of your goats.

Comment #13 - Posted by: Jason M at February 2, 2012 6:33 PM

#4 I have ppl do the same amount of tuck jumps and singles (working on a faster rope speed) so

50 double unders = 50 tuck jumps + 50 singles

as far as being able to get them...practice, practice, practice on technique for rope speed and the timing will come

Comment #14 - Posted by: Purp M/25/182 at February 2, 2012 6:40 PM

This one looks fun!!! Are 100 singles = to 50 Double unders? First time I've done a Jump Rope WoD

Comment #15 - Posted by: Gunsblazen at February 2, 2012 6:49 PM

Was wondering something recently. If crossfit is designed to make people fit and ready for anything, how come there is never any lateral movements incorporated in the wods? not trying to be negative, just inquisitive.

Comment #16 - Posted by: cody at February 2, 2012 7:57 PM

@ Matt #17: One day of working out in the snow doesn't give you pneumonia. Relax. While running in the dead of a Minnesota winter, I've had to strip down to spandex shorts and a tank. No pneumonia. Then again, hey, I'm a wild and crazy youth.

Sub'd 225# for the DL's. Double-unders went AWESOME. 48 in a row in the first round- a personal best.

7:58 with 255 lb DL ... Would've been faster if the chubby front desk girl hadn't "sprinted" over 2 me while I was jumping rope to let me know that "jumping rope is absolutely not allowed here!" I should've responded with "that's why this entire gym is filled with guys that look like cream puffs and girls that look like hell" .. Instead I said I was sorry and jumped rope with no rope lol Gotta love traditional "fitness centers" !!!!

Watched lots of DL videos before doing this, as I seem to frequently injury my back. Took the DL's slowly and went light; focused on form & re-setting. I look forward to working on these more.

The speed rope broke at the beginning of the first round, so had to break in the Rx rope--hadn't been able to string any together with it up until now, but got better throughout the workout.

Screwed the entire workout up on the fourth DU as I broke the rope. I had about 10 seconds of indecison and then decided that 25 burpees was a decent approximation of effort.

I pulled the 275 pretty good but lost my grip at rep seven each of the three sets.

Had to break. DL to 6+4,7+3 last 2 sets. Mainly b/c mentally trying to save for DU.
DU not bad. One messup per round & one break around 40 or so b/c I was tired & was losing "it".

CF WU + back extensions

WOD for 2/3/12

Three rounds for time of:
-275 pound Deadlift, 10 reps (subbed 185 - unbroken first set, 5-3-1-1 second, 5-3-2 third
-50 Double-unders (broken, need to do better next time)

close to eight minutes - had issues with headphones and pants falling down during double unders - still beat at the end but will definitely get a better time next time

Three rounds for time of:
275 pound Deadlift, 10 reps
25 Burpees

Subbed burpees 2:1 since I didn't have a place to do the box jumps. Pure brutality...
