Really cool video from Flagstaff. It must be filled with really cool people.

If you miss a WOD should you just skip that day, do 2 WODs in one day, or pick up the WODs one day behind until you can catch up on the next rest day?

Comment #2 - Posted by: RST at November 24, 2011 5:43 PM

The Aristotle quote made me think of this one:

"Know thyself! A maxim as pernicious as it is ugly. Whoever observes himself arrests his own development. A caterpillar who wanted to know itself well would never become a butterfly."
Andre Gide

Comment #3 - Posted by: Mark Lee at November 24, 2011 5:48 PM

@RST, you can either do to WODs in a day, or pick which one you want to do more. It's really up to you, but remember that the rest day is just as important as the workouts!

Comment #4 - Posted by: Kenny_C at November 24, 2011 5:57 PM

I had a baaaaad cheat day today, did anyone else get consumed by the sugar monster?

Comment #5 - Posted by: Connor sharpe (age 16) at November 24, 2011 6:27 PM

It's been 2 weeks since I started doing cross-fit.
snatch is the most difficult exercise so far, but I can't wait until tomorrow. I'm hooked on cross-fit.

Comment #6 - Posted by: Choi at November 24, 2011 6:29 PM

Yes. Two pieces of pecan pie and like 9 turtle thingies. And I never eat sweets. It was good though. I just remind myself it isn't what I eat every once in a while but my habits that will really have lasting effects on my long term health and performance. so waking up tomorrow it's right back to paleo/crossfitter.

Not cheat days, they are TREAT days! Mental health is important too, and occasionally that means just letting go, enjoying the flow and living life with the perks. (My perks were 2 slices of strawberry rubarb pie, and a half slice of cherry :)

I envy your perseverance to the cure......you know what I mean.... Come to Naples soon.....Robb and Lori

Hey guys. Looking for some advice from my CF community again!

My girlfriend is having struggles losing weight and toning herself. I have been a Crossfitter since before her and I met 2 years ago, and constantly bring it up to her that she should give it a try because it has worked wonders for me. But she has very little upper body strength, and isn't really in top cardiovascular shape. So, as you can imagine she is hesitant to actually give it a try for the first time. I was wondering if there are any tips you guys had to get me to have her give it a try.

It probably doesn't help that every time she comes into the garage gym she see's me on the floor gasping for breath haha.

Thanks guys!

Comment #12 - Posted by: Zack at November 24, 2011 8:05 PM

Nice, was scared it was gonna be a tough day tomorrow when considering the huge amount of food I consume today..

Snatches will be just right

Comment #13 - Posted by: Chase at November 24, 2011 8:35 PM

my snatch technique needs polishing before doing this, so today was practice with overhead squat, which I found kicked off my lumbar extension nicely, so I threw in a Tabata Squat session, which I PR'd! 16 score rather than last times (first time ever) 12......I like Crossfit.... :)

Re: the Blauer video, is that really a thing? Bad guys hiding in hotel rooms? And if so, where?

Comment #15 - Posted by: Kieran at November 25, 2011 3:09 AM

Does a hang power snatch involve a squat? Or just hang to overhead? If it's a squat I'm in trouble, those squat cleans yesterday ended me!Thanks!

Comment #16 - Posted by: swainiebop at November 25, 2011 3:10 AM

Hang squat clean 3-3-3-3-3: 95-125-135-145-145.

Last few days of weather like this so went outside.
My workout of the day was:

100 burpees

Got a question on the Hotel movie- is hiding in the window curtains a problem? Cause some hotels have really really thick long curtains that it is possible to hide behind, some even have like a wide window ledge that its possible to sit on. How would you check that safely?

M51 195 6'2" did the 100 burpee pull-up work out today.
My pull-up bar is only about 7.5 feet high, but I did chest-to-bar pullups to help make up for that

re Travel Safety. I think Tony's Travel Safety video is seriously flawed. There are significantly more attacks on people in hotels from people who follow them into rooms than from people hiding in rooms. In my 18 years of Law Enforcement I have not heard of an incident where someone was hiding in a room prior to your checking in waiting to attack you. I have seen several incidents of unsuspecting people beig jumped outside their room and/or dragged into their room. Leaving your door open with your suitcase as you investigate the improbable person hiding in your closet is inviting the probable passerby to take advantage of the open door invitation.

Bad idea...

Course 1.5 miles (approx 2.5 km)
Warmup, 3 rondes de:
- 8 pull-ups
- 10 dips
- 10 ghd sit-ups
- 10 back-extensions
- 10 air squats
- stretch
- lowerback exercices

WOD:

Zach (#12), Don't know whether you'll check back and see this, but I can totally relate to your girlfriend's hesitation to get into Crossfit. For me it was actually a $$ that kept me out. I didn't think it could possibly be worth it for me to spend the money until I was in good enough shape to really do the workouts. But, I saw a (gasp) Groupon and joined for a month. Well, after the first workout, I knew that it was going to be worth every penny of the real price- even after my Groupon was over. I have no ego about this stuff, so it wasn't hard for me going in and scaling everything, being the last one finished with rounds workouts, doing fewer rounds on AMRAPs, etc. I'm coming up on five months, and I love it. My strength has greatly improved, and even without doing much diet-wise, I've lost 17 pounds and I'm wearing clothes that haven't been out of my closet in years. Tell her to go for it!

115-125-135-145f-135-135..did 6 rnds...

Then did 21-15-9
DL 225 and Handstand walk X meters...

Splits were
15-6 dl= 1.07, h walk = 1.38
10-5 dl= 1.55, h walk = 1.08
5-4 dl= 0.53, h walk 0.25.
total= 7.08.

Lost a little time waiting for the bar, but not a big deal.

M/ 37/ 133 lbs/ 5'-6"
As Rx:
I did too many sets (forgot that it was 'power' snatch so I started to do those midway.)
burgener warm up + lots of DUs and good stretching
75 lbs x 6 (hang squat snatch)
80 lbs x 5 (hang squat snatch)
85 lbs x 5 (hang squat snatch)
90 lbs x 3 (hang squat snatch)
95 lbs x 3 (hang squat snatch)
95 lbs x 3 (hang power snatch)
100 lbs x 3 (hang power snatch)
105 lbs x 3 (hang power snatch)
105 lbs x 2 (hang power snatch)
105 lbs x 3 (hang power snatch)
105 lbs x 3 (hang power snatch)
110 lbs x 2 (hang power snatch)

95 lbs x 6 (3 full squat snatch + 3 power snatch)
75 lbs x 10 power snatch + 1 full aquat snatch non stop

Grip was a bit chewed up and hands were hurting a bit. I was chaulking up a bit. I forgot that this was power snatch and after too many warm ups I started doing the hanging power snatches.
I feel more powerful with a lower slower dip, but I need to work on the quick dip and drive.
This was a good WOD.
I wanted to use 115 lbs but I was a little bit tired and my hands were hurting after so many sets.

re: Blauer video - I have much respect for Blauer's system. The scope of his video was clearly limited to initial entry of the room. I especially liked the tip about changing cadence and limited opening of the closet door.

There are a few things to observe before you enter the room: where are the emergency exit stairwells? Assuming you cannot see due to smoke or injury, how many doors down, in which direction, on which side are both stairwells?

I also agree with the LE officer Bob above that a random attack would be more likely to tailgate you into your hotel/floor/room at night. Awareness of your surroundings is a good defense for that .

Maybe some sort of mental block with 160, cause 155 went up no problem at the end.

Buy-in: Normal warm-up plus mWOD #183.

Cash-out: Power snatch form work, from various positions (ground, knee, mid-thigh, hang) @ 135#. Trying to focus on footwork.

CFWU-2 @ Triangle. No dips. Row 500m. Burgener.

Did Triangle metcon afterward.
Not bad overall. First time doing this WOD. 135 somewhat challenging. Pretty good job getting hip ext. Had to get pretty big dip on last set.

I suck at these. I don't feel explosive at ALL on the pull. One look at the Catalyst Athletics demo page and they make it look so easy.
