Awesome photo.
Burpee pull ups are always a good way to get the heart rate up. Looking forward to tomorrow's WOD.
Cool pic!
@ #2 - quit complaining dude, main site posts WODs everyday for FREE! If you don't like it, don't do it!
Go Shely! Props to CFMK and Get Mean.
Awesome! Can't believe Belle and I made it on here!
Im sick right now but REALLY wanna do this wod. Didnt hit it today and think 100 Burpee Pull Ups would be great!!!! Well not really, but super terrific hard to make up for my lack of exercise today.
And im one day closer to hearing back from Affiliate Applications!
I feel like a kid on x-mas morning all day waiting for the WOD after a rest day! I LOVE CROSSFIT!!!
Cool photo!
Hmm, seeing as I do pullups using the branches of an apple tree in the backyard, I'll have to think this one through a bit...
Oh yeah! Earning my pumpkin pie!
Re. BMack and Katona, much like using snowshoes which rely on "floatation" to remain on top of the snow, a vision that may help those new to running in either soft sand or hard pack - hard pack to a lesser extent, try see yourself running on top of the sand. Run like you are on a sheet of thin ice trying to get to other side before the ice gives. Haul ass but maintain your mechanics. Cheers from PETN1.66 CrossFit!
Great photo of Shely and Belle doing t2b
@4 - You're a Navy Diver aren't you? Or we're? I used to have a diver roommate and they would all say deep sea over and over when they'd drink lol. Excited about this WOD!
17:49, ran a mile before and after for good measure.
One of my favorite WODS for its simplicity. Did most of the days of the 100 day burpee challenge as pull-up burpees and of course did this exact workout on day 100.
Congrats, Shely!! And, Belle!!
Does the mainsite not refer to this as "GI Jane"? I see the video refers to that name but where did it come from if not mainsite?

QUESTIONS??? Why do some people use an opposing hand grip for pull-ups? What are the advantages?
17:47
Was hoping for a better time for my first time doing this but guess there is no where to go but up from here.
please can someone explain this grip technique for the pull ups, surely 1 arm will develop more if this grip is used over a long period. thanks

2nd Timer. Wow, y'all are fast...21:45 is the best I could do. 10 sets of 10 at a time. Good work, people.
Do lots of elite level runners use the methods BMack teaches? Like the 1,500m and 800m oly runners? The 10k guys?
#49 Billiam,
Elite athletes generally do not do much in the way of GPP, or General Physical Preparedness. Of necessity, if they are truly elite (World Championships, Olympics, etc.) they must do almost entirely SPP, or Specialty Physical Preparedness. They are concerned with fitness in only one domain, that in which they compete.
On the other hand, if you are interested in a broad, inclusive fitness with a concentration in one domain, like running, you will likely find more success with fewer injuries while spending less time training with the principles espoused by BMack.
Again, thanks for the opportunity to point out the difference between GPP and SPP.
HARD. Did the porch version without the jump to a higher bar.

Bar was in reach. Don't have a bar I can put high enough in my basement.
Been CF'ing at a jumbo gym on an Air Force base for almost 9 months. About 4 weeks ago, they began unpacking a bunch of new equipment. You guessed it--bumper plates, pull-up cage, GHD racks, 'real' wallballs, C2 rowers, etc. Most of it from Rogue Fitness. We don't call it "CrossFit" because (rumor has it) the Air Combat Command 4-star doesn't like CF. So, the installation commander (1-star) calls it "Tactical Fitness". The only key things we're still missing: rings, climbing rope, & speed jump ropes. It's been AWESOME setting up a WOD and not having someone jump onto your equipment; or having to walk to opposite sides of the gym to switch exercises.
Did "Nutts" yesterday - 25:03. This will be my virgin GI Jane...hoping for 15 min or less.
13:35,
need a higher bar next time so the movements can be fluid instead of more like 100 burpees and 100 pullups.
newb this week. I did Mondays workout yesterday, and today I did this in 22:15. I did a set of 10, then rest 30 secs. then 5 at a time from there on out. Crap im gonna be sore tomorrow. The bar was about 8" over my reach. M/5'11"/175/36y/o

Good video. Run on LA and Malibu beach a lot and think the video misses one interesting piece of information. Taking into account that you are on the ground for longer with poor form (which I admit happens to me though I try not to let it), I find that running on sand (particularly near the water where it is more dense but where the beach can be sloped) can cause injury in your legs from the shifting surface. That is, you may find that a lot of lifeguards have issues not only from striking because of poor mechanics, but also from running on an uneven surface that shifts around under them. This can, and has led to in my case, some discomfort in my knees, hips and ankles from trying to run on a tilted and unstable surface where the tendons/ligaments/muscles can be put under more durerss to keep the body upright and moving forward (spent some time icing my inner hamstrings/knees after a long run in Malibu once hwere the beach is relatively flat). Would be interested to hear how better form, or other ideas, can correct these issues (apart form the idea of running in the looser sand higher on the beach where it is a flatter surface - harder work when you start out running on the beach). Thx!

@ #112 the staggered pullup grip works like the staggered deadlift grip. It just allows you to pull more wieght. It also keeps the body directly under the bar longer, keeping you in a strong pulling position. Have you tried the staggered grip while doing weighted pullups?

Uh, where is "gravity taking you forward"..the heels to butt...the controlled falling? Elite runners are near-full forward extension, strike (either forfoot or heel, many elites are in fact heel strikers) and drive. I was expecting the standard "oh, look at the figure four when you freeze frame him." You can find youtube videos showing how Carl Lewis is doing it "wrong" per some Pose charlatan. The only Pose Usain Bolt uses is his lightening bolt pose after he wins. I think Billiam's question was do elite runners use bmac's method, and the answer is no.
12:08 bar was probably 6-9" above max reach.
Just got my kip a month ago, so I did 50 in 12:11. Happy Thanksgiving!
I tried responding to you bingo. HQ wouldn't let me. Nice try, but Bolt and the elites do not practice Pose. Anyway, nevermind..not going to waste time arguing when chances are my side wont get posted.
Youtube is a treasure trove for checking out Usain Bolt running videos! His running style is textbook Pose; in one of the videos where Usain is teaching a running clinic for kids, he is wearing a Crossfit Endurance t-shirt, Reebok shorts, and VFFs.

Much harder than I was expecting. Muscles never felt fatigued, I just couldn't keep up aerobically.
14:25 (bar 1 inch above reach)
Instead of just going all out, I broke them up in 20 sets of 5reps every :45sec. Felt like I could have gone faster if I shortened the interval to :40. But happy with that strategy. Will shorten next time.

Still pretty bad, but at least better than last time. Really winded & HR felt very high. Didn't wear HRM though.
Reversed grip on some PU - right hand under. Jump to PU bar wasn't too bad.

18:48 w/ Ring Pull-Ups
Found that if I paused at the bottom of the pull-up, the rings would stay still. If not they'd sway and it made things pretty sporty on the next one.
