Tabata Fight Gone Bad, here it is again!...that was my first ever CF WOD 4 yrs ago, and I must admit that back then, it didn't quite make me wanna do Crossfit...my legs were sore for like 5 days. After I was good to go, I gave it a shot at a couple of other WOD's and right then and there, I was hooked!...I'm glad I stuck to it and drank the cool aid. Today, I'll bet my Tabata FGB score will totally destroy my score from 4 yrs ago...

i just don't get along with them all too well. i was raised in russia under very strict house rules and i think that the kids here these days are allowed to do just about anything. maybe one day i'll get a puppy to take that first step toward enjoying kids, who knows.

Hats off to the dad that incorporates "life" into CF while so many make excuses that "life" gets in the way. And why not take a pic? It's sweet to show a dad that still gets work done while taking care of the Munchkin! I am going to say the lack of full ROM is more than made up throughout the day keeping up with that little fella JR. So can it:) Beauty work!

Other exercises that can be done with a baby strapped:
- muscle ups
- ring dips

Ive tried the latter

I have 3 small kids and it used to bother me when I had to adjust my WODs because they wanted to be near me. That was a huge mistake! Now I love when they are watching me, talking to me, cheering me on, counting reps and playing with the timer. Enjoy these moments and commit them to long term memory.

I love this program. If raising kids isnt functional movements at its best, I dont know what is. I regulary: deadlift sleeping kids off the floor, push-press them onto the monkey bars, back squat them for shoulder back rides, shoulder press them onto my husbands shoulders, carry them in isolated bicep holds while they are fast asleep in the grocery store, chase them down full speed to stop them from running into a parking lot or other danger, I could go on and on. And Im strong enough to do all of these things now without throwing my back out or finding my husband to do them for me. So I vote for yes, stand over a mat and use your toddler as a wall ball. :)

Anyone have an estimate on how many calories a 36, 105 lbs female burns on each pull? Computer is broken on rower. Im guessing 3 or 4 pulls for one calorie?

I'm new to crossfit. Can someone explain what this means:

Complete 40 intervals of 20 seconds of work followed by ten seconds of rest. Is this in addition to the following:

Perform 8 consecutive intervals of each of the following exercises:

Wall-ball 20 pound ball, 10 ft target. (Reps)
Sumo deadlift high-pull 75 pounds (Reps)
Box Jump 20" box (Reps)
Push-press 75 pounds (Reps)

Comment #78 - Posted by: Rough Robbie at October 27, 2011 10:35 AM

Blair #76,

No, it is not "in addition."
This:
"Perform 8 consecutive intervals of each of the following [5] exercises:

Wall-ball 20 pound ball, 10 ft target. (Reps)
Sumo deadlift high-pull 75 pounds (Reps)
Box Jump 20" box (Reps)
Push-press 75 pounds (Reps)
Row (Calories")

Is describing the 40 intervals in this:
"Complete 40 intervals of 20 seconds of work followed by ten seconds of rest."

So you start with five 20 second intervals of wall-ball, then do five 20 second intervals of sumo deadlift high pull, then five 20 second intervals of box jumps, ect.

I'm all for tossing kids around during a workout, but a 2 month old strapped to me during my rows would be subjected to shaken baby syndrome.
Gotta work on getting smoother.

Comment #85 - Posted by: MajorDad at October 27, 2011 11:29 AM

Blair @77, Jay @79 almost got it right; he said to do five 20 sec intervals of WB and so on. You should do eight intervals of each exercise, so:
- Wall ball: 20 sec work, 10 sec rest; eight times
- SDHP: 20 sec work, 10 sec rest; eight times
...and so on...
Your score is the lowest number of reps (calories for the row) for each exercise added together.

For all who are brand new, or fairly new to CF; don't sweat it if you can't do the weight or duration prescribed. One of the beauties fo CF is the ability to scale by either reducing load or time until you build up strength and endurance. I've been at it for about 8 months, but I was 45 years old when I started. I often end up doing 80% of the prescribed load, depending on the type of exercise. That's a lot better than the 60% load that I started with. Don't forget to use the link to see how to do different exercises. Also, don't forget to checkout under . Most of all, don't get discouraged. CrossFit works!

Could not have come close to doing this continuously so I did (significant rest between exercises - total workout took about 40 mins):

Push Press:
-Sets 1-4 at 75 lbs and continuous - 10, 11, 8, 6 reps
-Sets 5-6 at 70 lbs and continuous - 10, 8 reps
-Sets 7-8 at 65 lbs and continuous - 12, 11 reps

Sumo DLHP:
-All sets at 65 lbs and somewhat continuous: 10, 11, 9, 7, 6, 7, 6, 8 reps

Box Jumps:
-On bench and continuous: 19, 16, 16, 16, 14, 15, 15, 13

DB thruster (instead of WB shots):
-Sets 1-4: 17.5 lb DBs and some rest between sets: 11, 12, 10, 11
-Sets 5-8: 15 lb DBs and some rest between sets: 13, 12, 11, 10

No row because machines were taken

experimented a little today. did parallette pass through burpees...start standing, lower, do pushup with hands on p-let, press up and shoot legs forward, pull legs under, stand and jump.

215# for six sets. each around 50 sec. didn't record cals on airdyne.

Totally muffed the rowing by fumbling with foot-straps and on/off button between rounds - got 3 cals on round 2, so took it easy on other rounds - ironic b/c rowing's an FGB-strength of mine.

w/u - 2 wall climbs (wow blood to head), 7x 45# PP+SDHP, 250m row (:55 secs, 18 cal), 30sec Samson, 10x pushup- scap push- dip- be, static neck-shoulder-hip, 30 single unders, 20secs each (w/10 secs off in between) of box jump 20#, push press 75#, row cal, wall ball 12#, sdhp 75#

c/d - 30 single unders, bench 1x8 (95, 115, 135), box squat to 18" box 1x6 95#, foam roll and 1-2min squat-holds @ home

WB-Make sure to stand back far enough. Don't scoot in as reps progress. BJ-Do a couple more reps 1st round. Following rounds pretty easy. Make sure lower abs tight on PP & look to ceiling on extension. Pay attention to hand position. Row not bad after 1st round. Tough transitioning.
