"The Effect of the Minimum Wage on Youth Unemployment" by Tim Worstall, Forbes.
Posted by Pukie at October 19, 2011 5:00 PM
Jason,
Get after it bro! Thats inspirational.
Drew.
why is there a link to an article about minimum wage and youth unemployment in the United Kingdom? I don't get it
Jason Strum, your a bad ass!
@SmokeyMcPot Weird, isn't it? USA isn't the only country in the world.
Oh you mean other countries besides the US exist in the world? Nevermind! I guess it makes total sense now why an article that no one that uses this website will read in its entirety is posted there.
They're really doing ANOTHER cycle of the competition wods?? Common... CFE.com.... click...
Very impressive, Jason!!!
Very impressive, Jason!!!
I read the whole article...
Lol. Very funny math on that Forbes article, but we all saw that coming. I've seen plenty of data on the minimum wage argument, and if Forbes could only compare apples and oranges to get pears... Well... great job Jason, kick ass!
This picture is too legit
How did stacy manage to put 99lbs on a bar??
Sick WOD with a sick picture, life is good
That is CrossFit! Thank you, Jason!
#15 Jason asked:
How did stacy manage to put 99lbs on a bar??
--------
99lbs is exactly 45 Kg. So a 15 KG bar, with two 15Kg weights would do it.
HTH, Dave T.
@Jason
45 lb barbell + 10kg x 2 plates (44 lbs) + 5lb x 2 (10 lbs) plates = 99 lb
if rich is a beast, sounds like speal is even more of one - since his time is one second faster
more crossfit cookville ish please!! thank you
Awesome Jason! Inspiring brother; keep it up.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Camille's time. She's hot AND superhuman! Good lord!
Any good replacement for the double unders?
Tuck jumps for double unders. But practice your damn double unders.
That is ALOT of DUs. I am going to have to scale this one for equipment (working out at the house today with no barbell but do have 40 lbs dumbells) as well as for ineffeciency with the DUs. How does the group feel about 6 rounds with 40lbers for the squats and 25 each round for the DUs? Does it take away from the effect of the WOD? Any advice please reply, thanks.
Any defense of the removal of minimum wage is preposterous.
Stick to fitness, CrossFit.

Double unders pretty broken
7:42 but scaled down a lot. 10 Russian pistols on each leg plus 20 tuck jumps.
3:37
rope screwed up many times. Still able to improve a lot. Good jobby though.
Anyone have any tips for improving DUs? I'm having a difficult time developing the timing to do them in succession, thereby making the workout take considerably longer.

Fellow Crossfitters:
I am writing to see if anyone that is interested in signing up for the Crossfit Football Cert, at any location, could contact me. I signed up about a year ago, and have not been able to go yet, and was hoping someone could take my place at a cert. You can reach me at jpichie@gmail.com if you are interested in the cert.
Thanks in advance,

135 OH squat was 4-4-2. Was shot after that, lol. 95's were unbroken. Gotta work on getting consecutive DU's as opposed to hopping in between. Time would been cut in half for sure. More practice needed. Great wod though

Gave the local ANP a chuckle.
To Pukie, or article / vid vetter:
Just wanted to counter the posts that ask you to "stick to fitness". Thanks for the disparate articles. Thanks for the music. Thanks for the poetry and prose. Thanks for the FREE workouts. Thanks for the inspiring WOD vids.

@Sean (#39): Re. DU's, what did the trick for me was to really make an effort to keep my elbows in (touching the sides of my body), and *keep* that position while in movement (it's easy to lose form once you're tired).
Imagine you have an elastic band between your elbows, going behing your back.
Ah yes, remove the minimum wage. A decades old conservative arguement that still has no value.

Did not do the WOD today, but practiced both of the movements for an hour.
Got a PR on my OHS though with 145#. ALMOST hit 150#, but lost it forward just as I was starting my ascent.
Everything I am completely suck at seems to be coming up lately!
I love the use of quotes for something that is not a quote.
I would love a copy of that e-mail from Ballys management to the affiliates about the No Crossfit rule. If anybody has it please forward.
Thanks
I volunteer every day to check this site. it rocks. I probably agree with your politics too. But who cares. I love that this guy Strum is motivated to go to the gym and not use his handicap as a crutch. I would imagine that Crossfit only encouraged Mr. strum to take the world by the short and curleys instead of sit around feeling bad for himself.
good WOD today took me 14:35 to get through this. I need to work on DU's
9:16, as Rxed, a few sets
@#47 - I agree. This site is the best fitness resource I have ever run across AND it has an amazing amount of free resources. I personally like the main site's wide array of music, thought, photos, etc. And I'm glad CF-HQ doesn't just stick to fitness. It shows a very well rounded mindset which is the essence of CrossFit. I'm not threatened by a divergent article or other posting. Like my dear old dad once said, you could gold plate the toilet seats around here and there'd still be a sniveler...
I'm heading out now to firearms qualifications where I get to put CF to use when I sprint from cover to cover, go from standing to prone to kneeling, etc in rapid succession and basically have a great time on the combat course and at the impromptu challenges during our chow break. I pray I didn't offend any sensitive, humorless souls with my mention of firearms.
You're doing a great job Pukie!

2010 Northwest Regional Event 1
Three rounds for time of:
135 pound Overhead squat, 10 reps
50 Double-unders
time, a dismal 11:39
last time 7:08
That was rough. I was doing good, real good, I hit the first round unbroken on both, second round OHSs unbroken but hard and slow, DUs broke once I think, maybe twice.
Hit massive shoulder fatigue, I miss the first rep, got it, and dropped the bar, got reps 2,3 missed 4, missed 4 two more time, I was'nt sure I could do another rep. Focused, rested for a bit to let my shoulders ease up,told myself I WILL GET THIS DONE. Got the bar up, shoulders screaming, brain telling me ''ignore it and get a rep'' then I got the last 6 in a row just barely getting rep 10.
DUs broke 3 time on last set.
I know it is from all the MUs and HSPUs from yesterday. It is what it is. I did all I could do today. It just hurts to have done so poorly, I was in line for a good pr at the start. Still I'm glad I finished and pushed through.
Forgot to say warmed up today for 6am swim-wod with 30sec Samson and 7-5-3 reps of (1pood KBS, dips) -- took about 90 secs.
Once again, a fast-timed-weighted warmup leads to better WOD'ding for me (cut 79 secs, or just under 10%, off my swim-pushup WOD time today).
Later today, with kid in gym, going to do CFE power clean WOD. Following ideas from brian p and others of you, I'm thinking of adding 1-2 CFE WODs per week. Will be interesting to see how to do that while preserving recovery.

Good stuff on the swim WOD! Yeah, a double every now and then (CFE and/or strength work) is definitely good, add them in slowly and watch recovery. If your sleep and nutrition are lacking it will wear you down over time.

7:00. Stopped the clock to change the weight on the bar. At least I was adding weight.
@paul #82, that's some dl-fs combo poundage, and incredible determination to do rx no matter what. makes me want to try that on weights/moves that won't kill me but will take a looong time (where i tend to scale)
@brian p #83, makes sense to keep cfe, strength in the mix & watch sleep/nutrition -- esp. to limit garlic fries to once a year ;) and get more sleep.

Went with 60% of 160# 1RM to start, hoping to make it to 90% 1RM by end, so
95x3 - 105x3 - 115x2 - 125x2 - 135x2 - 135x1 fail - 125x1 - 130x1 - 135x1 - 140x1
With one set every 45-60 seconds, it probably shouldn't have been surprising how much those first 4-5 sets took out of legs, hips, form, arms, everything. Tnat first single was like running into a brick wall.

Having some major shoulder issues lately. I think my kipping pullups are the source of the problem. I thought I tore something and have been nursing it for about 3 weeks. It's weird bc I can do lots of challenging things and then I can barely put baby food in the microwavfe. Any ideas?

When I read this I knew I would have to scale the weight for the squats, but I also said "I CAN'T jump rope."
Guess what? I was wrong. Although I couldn't do any double unders yet, I did complete all three rounds with 50 jumps and the last round I made it all the way through.
45kg OHS. good weight for me. 1 set unbroken then split into 2 sets for 2nd and 3rd round. skipping rope snapped (RBK skipping ropes are s#~t)!

I took my weights for the OHS off the rack. It did not specify from the floor.
I was too conservative on my first set. I did 7 + 3. the other two rounds I went unbroken for my OHS. I had to fight for the last one but unbroken. I was too willing to stop and rested, thinking that this was going to add up fast and I would not be able to keep up a good pace. I underestimated myself.
I also used wrist wraps for the first time last night. It did help and my wrists are not sore at all. Typically they are a bit sore after heavier OHS. This was a fun WOD... I felt pretty fresh very soon after so I did some KB swings about 10 rps with 35 lbs, then 55 lbs, then 70 lbs. I did these with about 30-60 secs rest between sets. I id these to get a little burn in some areas that teh WOD did not hit to kind of balance me out a bit. I was kind of sore in my frontal shoulers.. this was more rear delts and mostly hamstrings.
Good WOD.

Funny statistics from Forbes. Even funnier that it´s never a YOUTH who writes those kind of articles, demanding less pay... It´s easy to say to someone ELSE that they should work for less. Do it yourself and your argument might seem more reasonable.
Subbed 95# DB front squat (box gym was crowded)
7:45
5:14 ( 8 ohs per round. scaled the same way last time but did double unders first each round) I've also been sick for 2-3 weeks and have been resting a lot.
As rx'd, 4:34 (PR).
Double-unders went better than last time. Only 3 misses - two in round 1, and one in round 3. OHS were a little shaky, but got through them unbroken. PR by a minute. Used regular shoes (not oly).
