That kid is awesome! Just remember, all he needs to eat is PB&J, no bread, milk, and Progenex. He'll be like Froning in no time.

Great pic. Awesome to see kids looking up to the fittest people on earth and not to overpaid pro athletes.

Comment #7 - Posted by: Randy at August 23, 2011 6:40 PM

Absolutely love CrossFit! All the respect in the world to the individuals who take part in it.

Comment #8 - Posted by: Tamroc at August 23, 2011 7:02 PM

those fittest people on earth may well be on their way to being pro athletes with all the stuff reebok is doing and how big the sport is getting.

Comment #9 - Posted by: leon at August 23, 2011 7:28 PM

If I could rewind time I'd take a wod index and do it like that kid... Point being he's got a incredible road in front of him!!!

Comment #10 - Posted by: david mitchell at August 23, 2011 8:15 PM

randy-yeah overpaid athletes that usually sacrifice and work their butts off to be where they are. almost one in the same with the way the fittest on earth do business. why is it that someone (a pro athlete) that works really hard and dedicates themselves to something positive not a good role model?

yes the man and woman dubbed fittest on earth are exceptional role models, but that should not discredit all the hard "non crossfit work" an individual puts in.

Good article on Crossfit today...I just moved to a Heavy Combat Brigade and most of the guys see the traditional two hours in the gym doing beach presses and curls as the way to fitness. Slowly I have seen more functional movement workouts being embraced by leadership, but not as embraced as my old duty station, Fort Bragg. It will happen, but ready to get back to Bragg.

To echo Lel #11, I played baseball in the minor leagues during the height of the "steroid era" from 1997-2001. The fact that so many pro athletes fell short of our expectations should not diminish the fact that countless more pro athletes did things the right way and could still be looked upon as role models. I love crossfit and find its athletes remarkable, but we need to be very careful about who we choose to place on a pedestal. We should allow all athletes to simply be people first and understand that we all have flaws. By definition, crossfit athletes are "the everyman/woman" and nobody is perfect. We can only do our best in the moment.

I did toes to bar until I couldn't and then finished off with TRX cruches. It looks a little lame but I recently managed to do my first one T2B and I am now trying to incorporate them into workouts. It'll be a while before I start stringing those suckers together....

Comment #111 - Posted by: JuliePlatt at August 24, 2011 2:05 PM

Boy, I messed this one up, or rather it messed me up. I was not very strategic about this. Did the first two rounds in 1:10. Yes. 1:10. Then proceeded to absolutely...fall...apart. DL were unbroken, but T2B went 10:5, then 6:6:3 on the last two rounds, with lot's of pain in the abs and lot's of rest taken. Was hoping for between 5-6 minutes. Want to do this one again so bad to hit in that target--but will have to wait until my abs are not cooked.

Controlled drop on DL (no bumpers). Happy enough with my time, but I think all this extra eating is making meel feel sluggish. Maybe it's just in my head. Gained another pound today. The whole milk is working.

Last two rounds of deads were really fast because as my hands fatigued, my work rate on the TTB was so low I was essentially resting metabolically.

Single leg split squat PRed at 125x5 today, fun movement, unmasks my left/right leg strength differences.

5 rounds
185 lb deadlift x 15
Toes to bar x 15
145 lb front squat x 10

First round unbroken (to my surprise)
The squats didn't add to my time because I was waiting for my grip to recover anyway

Scaled dead lift to 135lbs
19:09

Forearms were burning, still the dead lifts were easy should have gone heavier as last 2 sets were done in 10, then 5 reps.
Toe to bar degenerated to 3s, then 2s, then 1st for the last 5 reps.
Fun workout!

Comment #237 - Posted by: Donal at August 26, 2011 9:58 AM

M/ 37/ 134 lbs/ 5'-6"
As Rx: approximately 12:30 (I had to do my toes to bar with rings)
GRIP was the big thing for me that makes me stop and restart with DL and grip made me stop and restart on the t2B as well.. I have to admit that I stopped at 10 reps on the final round with my t2b also because the midline was failing a little and I did not want to swing my legs up and comprimise my lower back.
The rings were about 250' from the D.L. area.
I went unbroken in first round. Then I mostly did 12 + 3 for D.L. and unbroken with T2B but in the last 2 rounds I also broke the T2B as well into 12 +3 and 10 +5.
Good, fast fun WOD.

Damn, I could do this as Rx'd, but I hurt some piece of my left hip flexor last night. I think I'll try single-leg deadlifts and see whether or not I can do the toes-to-bar. If not, hmmm...

pack workout from brandx: 5 rounds of 135 lb deadlift and toes to bar.

Grip was the worst part, could have been a lot faster if I wasn't worried about falling on my head from the toes to bar.

Turns out I can do deadlifts with this hip flexor injury, just not squats. But alas, I've been eating birthday pie for a week and could only struggle through three rounds. I probably should have scaled the weight down.

On 5th round of DL's 12th rep my lower back popped. Stopped the DL's there finished up the toe-to bars. Odd because it wasn't a lot of weight. I was able to do a few more DL's after this dropping the weight down to 135. Must have had a loose moment with form. Going to have to take a few days off now to heal.

Did this again on 26 Feb 12 in 16:00????? Not sure what happened this last time. My grip was really giving me a hard time, that was normally what caused me to break up my sets. I'll have to do this again soon to redeem myself.
