I'll be cheering for you next year mikko!
let me answer this question even before it gets asked. watch the wow demo video. it's either a power snatch or a squat snatch its your choice
Watch out Mikko next year:) I can't wait!
Hope that Rob O will be there also!
Jeez! Screw being hunted down by Mikko!!
Scaling options on a mainsite WOD? Very interesting. I like where this is going.
Nice improvement over last time Kristen! Wow!
What are the long term effects on the vestibular system from a broken eardrum? How will that effect his gymnastics ability?
Matt, I had both ear drums blown out in an explosion. One still has a hole in it after several surgeries. Your equilibrium will return. You just adjust. I have more problems from being an amputee as well, but you learn to adapt. My problem with snatches is losing control of the bar due to only having a couple fingers left on each hand. Do what you can, adapt, improvise, overcome.
#9 Rod, you exemplify the spirit of Crossfit. Keep going at it.
Can't wait for next year's games with Mikko in hunting mode.
#9 -Rod
You are a champ man. Don't ever give up...
Really Hope Mikko recovers well and quickly that was some Bad Luck.
Also I too Like the reminder to scale. Seems like it should be common sense but from what I usually see its sadly really not.
Made up Tuesday's 5K this morning:

hands down Mikko is my hero. Was so shattered when he got injured. Good luck next year - you're an inspiration.
Mikko your attitude is beyond compare. If anyone can bounce back and get after it after what happened at the Games, you can.
I feel terrible for Mikko. I know he will be back better than ever next year.
Rod,
great job of helping Mikko put his disappointment in perspective. (to be clear, I feel dreadful for him and he's my favourite crossfit athlete so no hating, but there are plenty worse off)
congratulations on your attitude brother and I wish you the best of luck for the future
I wish we could get a video about the new reebok oly shoes and what the games athletes think about them.
95 lbs - 6:39
Still keeping the weight light (although even at 95lbs I'm soaked) and focussing on form
Hard to watch Mikko talk about how painful it was...the guy puts his heart and soul into training...what a stud for completing that workout after he busted his ear drum!!! wish u the best next year Mikko!!!
Echoing Jesse #22, it's unbelievable that Mikko finished that workout after blowing out an eardrum in the opening seconds. Throwing up in the water and still finishing? How many people could do that?
Hope he comes back strong next year and wins.
I hope we still get to see Mikko and Rich Froning go head to head before next year!

hands down, mikko is the greatest ambassador CrossFit has ever had! not only is he respected by the community, he is a fine example and showpiece for any one new to or being shown CrossFit for the first time...stoic, aggressive, calm, sisu, humble...
First time doing snatch so wasn't game to pull on 155 focused on technique instead.

Is the standard for this lift just bar to overhead or is it bar to overhead plus the full overhead squat (like kristan is doing in the demo)? Thanks

got 8 in a row first time
I was watching a video with Josh Everett doing Isabel and other videos and they were doing a small jump. I also watched a video by Patrick Cummings showing how to do the Snatch and it had a much bigger jump and movement to it. Which way should I do it?
did 95lbs at first but had very sloppy form. I wasn't squatting all the way down. Then decided that I wanted to do 65lbs with strict form. What a difference!

Mikko, you don't need a podium to be a champion (but it will be great to see you up there next year)!
Question. What's the rest day theory? I was supposed to have a rest day yesterday after three WODs, but ended up playing tennis for 90 mins. If I do the WOD today am I actually taking a step back due to lack of recuperation, or do I not consider tennis to impair progress. Many thanks.
No bumpers at gym = No Isabel...would love to give this one a go though.
First time doing snatch. Watched videos and got tips on the gym to do it. Ended up doing them like Josh Everett in the video, is that okay? Or should I do the snatch with the squat? I ended up doing 65lbs in 11:02.
#44- theories dffer on rest. Some people do 3 on 1 off. Some do 5 on 2 off etc. What I noticed is you have to in tune with your body. This week I felt "off" so on rest day I did absolutely nada. Sometimes I have active rest, like tennis, or something. Sometimes I WOD on a rest day. Only you know what's best. I have not found it to be counterproductive in any way. Hope that helps!
julian- I always tell my clients to listen to their body, if you feel up for tackling the WOD then go for it. Also know that WODs like this can be an all out sprint. Ask yourself what muscles are you recruiting for this movement? What do you usually feel like the day after 90 minutes of tennis? What will you feel like tomorrow?
If you're up for it then take on the WOD but if you are warming up and feel like you might do more harm then good then shut it down and rest.
4:45 @ 95, 135 next time for sure (maybe even this afternoon)
@ #44
I would reccomend to listen to what your body is telling you. If it was a light 90 minutes of tennis and you feel great, go for it. If it was intense and you need recovery, take it.

So if it doesn't explicitly say so, we can do any form of snatch we like? I was under the impression that it when it just says snatch to squat snatch, just like clean means squat clean? Perhaps not.

4 minutes slower than last time, and I couldn't even do a proper snatch, had to do power snatches. Don't know what was wrong but I stunk today.

Howdy! Once upon a time, even before our gracious hosts here started posting a daily WOD for free, there was a magical, mystical place called Crossfit Santa Cruz. A guy named Coach experimented on mostly human, partly machine subjects and determined that the maximum output and greatest outcomes came from 3 on,1 off, despite a strong commercial desire to find that 5 on, 2 off was best. This became the schedule you see here on Crossfit.com
Seriously, in the earliest issues of the Crossfit Journal there are articles that review the history and rationale for the CF Rx. Not all affiliates follow 3 on.1 off, but I can't remember a deviation here in 6+ years.
Welcome aboard. Fasten your seatbelt.

Isabel is one of my favorites. I went out the gate aggressively today - maybe a bit too hard - and just tried to maintain. Got the first 10 unbroken in 35 seconds, then did sets of 5 to 20. Hit 20 at 1:45 or so. Felt like I had to do singles after that - boy those last 10 were ugly. I was split snatching and pressing them out, but even with that, I was not sure those last few were going to get up.
