@RH; SDHP is pretty good. Low weight, high reps. I think they say 100 reps = 1km.

I hope a rule at the games is that all male athletes need to keep their shirts on during the competition. I didn't realize how many men shaved their bodies!

Props out to dick carpenter. I wouldn't want to go against him in a WOD.

Great Forbes article on the benefits of cf and how it changes people for the better. I love capitalism and want everyone who takes risk to make money. But reebok is playing this deal all wrong. Stay true, be economical, educate and they will build a loyal and profitable customer base.

"CrossFit's Relationship with Reebok Enhances Its Financial and Commercial Credibility"

Probably needs to differentiate between corporate Crossfit and the individual affiliates.

Does anyone else think that the outlook for existing affiliate profitability is bleak, given that there are no barriers to entry for new/competing Crossfit affiliates?

The unconstrained proliferation of affiliates certainly benefits the recipient of the affiliate fees. But at the supply (affiliate) is allowed to reach equilibirum with demand (paying gym member population), would this not degrade/minimize profitability of the affiliate?

Thoughts?

Does 45lb thrusters mean to do thrusters with 45lb DBs or to do thrusters with a standard 45lb bar?

Comment #23 - Posted by: Will at July 25, 2011 7:23 PM

@J. Redrock
I agree with you... to an extent.
Isn't there a chance that this will tighten up the competitiveness of Affiliates and breed a higher quality of Box?
When a market gets saturated and there is a high quantity of similar products, one of the main differentiators is quality.
I look forward to a more competitive market with even higher quality affiliates.

Aww shoot ! Gone backwards ! 14m 50s as opposed to 30APR11's 14m 35s. Previous Jackie on 24NOV10 15m 40s. Still don't have a C2, so subbed sdhp x 100.

Anyway, 8 weeks abroad with the only training being walking and the odd hotel room bodyweight workout and some losses are bound to occur. Home now, time to get right back into it.

No rowing machine at my gym, and I'm unable to do 30 pull ups, so. I subbed 45#SDHP x100 for rows, and did jumping pull ups (with 4sec negative).

Guess I just broke the worst-time record. My endurance really sucks.

After pure strength training for quite some time I decided to give Crossfit a try.

SDHP with 20.5kg (45lbs)
straight chinups

Time: 24:00

I was able to do 50 SDHP without a break, after that my performance went to the ground. I needed to do much breaks on the high pulls and thrusters, maybe 10 in a row after I got half of them. I wasn't even sure if I manage to stand during the thrusters :D.
The chinups took over 10 minutes. Normally I can do about 10 on my first set which alone would take much time to do 30. Now I could barely manage five in my first try.

Phew!

F/41/178/5'11"

First time as Rx'd . 12:58 was my time.

It took me over 5 minutes to for my pullups. I would like to do this workout backwards so i could do the pullups fresh and then go all out on the row at the end. i'm better at rowing tired than i am at doing pullups when exhausted.

Then i practiced dips and kipping pullups .

Good wod .

Did shoulder press instead of thrusters because of a left knee issue. Interestingly, it took about 20 seconds longer this way than my best Rx time.

"Jackie"

1000 meter row(subbed 45lbs sumo high pulls)
45 pound Thruster, 50 reps
30 pull-ups

warm up was 20 ring dips
20 air squats
30 40lbs back ext.
30 40 lbs situps

I subbed 45lbs sumo high pulls for rowing.

time 5:59
lasttime was 7:33

SUMOs today were unbroken, last time I broke at 70 reps for a regrip and go.
thrusters unbroken, slowed after 30 reps but never a rerack and then squat.

Pullups C2B 20/5/3/2 Arms were so tired I couldn't keep going. I so wanted the pullups unbeoken. But that leaves room next time.

#92 Josh I am a firm believer that the Standard Model D is perfect for CrossFit. It costs less and does everything you need. Plus it would be tough to compare the times on both. “On-water rowers” seem to like the feel but times seem slower across the board. I am still using the Model D for my WOD’s

Two PRs in Jackie today!

As rx'd:

8:32 PR (1may11: 8:44)

Then took a break and did some skill work: 10x5 75# snatches. Then did Jackie again as rx'd:

8:16 PR

The difference was in the row. I took it a little easier (3:47 vs 3:34 the first time), which left a lot of energy to get through the thrusters and pullups. Also wasn't nearly as wiped out as I was the first time. So maybe gaming the row a little is the way to go here?

I'm not an expert in economics, but isn't capitalism based on the idea of a free market? I think you should have to work to make your affiliate better than your competition. Then you will be at your best and your clients will get the best. Competition is ubiquitous in crossfit, it seems like an owner of a Crossfit affiliate wouldn't shy away from the challenge.

Set PR at 9:39, but did many of the thrusters more like push press due to pretty painful knee injury. Would have easily beat old PR even with healthy knee. Followed up with cool down of 15 GHD and 25 Back Extensions for practice. Great W.O.D.

7:52 Rx'd and almost a minute slower than the last time I did Jackie for the video qualifiers in 2009. Not feeling it today.

Row went 3:52
Thrusters 31/12/7
Pullups 16/9/5

Too much rest in between everything, just didn't feel like pushing today...

Every time I complete this workout, my time gets better. The problem is that I have done this one about 4 times now and each time I say to myself "This doesn't look to bad, I am gonna crush this". Then Jackie quickly kicks me in the teeth. Great workout.

Ambience: No One Lives Forever / Stay / Fool's Paradise -- Oingo Boingo

Time: 6:43 (PR).

This was a serious burner. Last time, I did this at the gym - doing it at home saved me a bunch on transition time. Got off the rower at 3:45, started thrusters at 4 minutes. Unbroken, a couple of quick breathers overhead (at 20 and again at maybe 35). Finished thrusters at 5:30, and though I was pretty smoked, it felt great, knowing that I had a real chance at sub-7. Pull-ups went 20-5-3-2. I was hoping to get through them in just 2 sets, but at least this was better than last time, so I'll take it. Funny moments:

Thought it might be easier to plug in the 1000m as a custom distance row instead of "Just Rowing". Unfortunately, my pre-WOD mind was scrambled, and I plugged in 500m instead. I realized this 200m in, and had been rowing pretty hard (33 spm, can you feel the adrenaline?), so decided to just make the best of it. After rowing a 1:46 over the first 500m, I hit the Back button and then the Just Row button, and continued for another 500 - at about 1:50 pace. Ahh, the best laid plans...
Was pretty smoked during the thrusters so at 50, I just dropped the bar - from overhead. Holy s***, that made a lot of noise.

I'm thirteen I have been going to crossfit for about a year now and just a couple months ago I dropped the teens classes and am going only to the adult ones. So far I won A "murph" competion against my trainers with a time of 39:13 and now doing the Helen challenge. I just did Jackie the other day and got 8:01 rx'd

12 min

(last time was pr at 10:25) This was first WOD after a 2 week hiatus traveling, summer, busy etc.

Thrusters 30-10-10 (probably should have done it in two sets)
Pull-ups 15-15

Hamstrings burning up after this.

First WOD in new globo gym (they moved locations). Smaller spot, took away some equipt, but the important stuff (i.e. Concept 2, pull-up station, GHD and bumper plates) remain.
