Haha. Programmed this yesterday. Still trying to finish up all the girls. I had heard that a wod with programmed rest was tougher, hadn't believed it...

Stay safe over there Joshua.

I am motivated by the desire to never again hear any of Ayn Rand's drivel.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Ben Edelen at July 15, 2011 5:48 PM

Great photo. I love to see guys doing it with improvised gear. No excuses.

Comment #6 - Posted by: greg at July 15, 2011 6:21 PM

Cool pic.
The "our sport" vid - some call corny, I kind of like it, maybe b/c I'm drunk, but since I;ve been CF-ing it's come a long long way - from a web based blog that i was using to rehab my back to reebok sponsored, quarter million purse games! Legit.
Can't wait to watch the next running vid, but must do so tomorrow. shredded. my wife got me a weight vest for my b-day, which I think is a symbol of love, not sure... but it was a killer b-day wod.

Comment #8 - Posted by: eric at July 15, 2011 7:20 PM

We all need to read and understand more of Ayn Rand's philosophy. The world would be a better place for it.

32 minutes... my first time

Comment #15 - Posted by: luis at July 15, 2011 10:44 PM

The problem with Ayn Rand is that she was a pretentious little writer. The central ideas of her philosophy (that I like) were nothing new. Instead, I prefer Nietzsche´s Zarathustra, hands down.

Comment #16 - Posted by: JM Jones at July 15, 2011 10:52 PM

Subbed WOD for: Take my 2 sons, 9 other boy scouts, and 3 dads on 50 mile hike. Wear 85lb (38.5kg) backpack. Time: 6 glorious days. Have fun out there.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Scott Dyer at July 15, 2011 11:39 PM

Cool Scott! 38.5 kg? wowww, thats a lot! Here in Patagonia (Argentina) is all covered with snow, and very cold for a 6 day hike, Im waiting for the summer : ) But 2 days in a mountain hut will be cool

Comment #18 - Posted by: JM Jones at July 15, 2011 11:51 PM

42 minutes....... wow. Barbara is a cruel mistress

Comment #19 - Posted by: TGregK at July 15, 2011 11:57 PM

If I don't like something or I think it's too expensive then, know what, I don't buy it...simple. Stop whingeing about Reebok. Who cares? Not me, I'll wear whatever I happen to pick up and stuff in my training bag.

Have a great day people, and I'm grateful to Joshua and all who enable us to do so. Stay safe brother.

Comment #91 - Posted by: JD at July 16, 2011 3:55 PM

Rand would have been more honest if she had added "I wish" at the beginning of that statement. Her recurring error (and unfortunately this error was near the backbone of her philosophy) was to confuse "ought" with "is". She thought that calling herself a "romantic" made up for this (of course, since she had the habit of redefining terms like "romantic" to suit her needs and unsteady her critics, perhaps being a "romanitc" did wash-out this error - who knows?).

Total time (minus rests): 12:35 (off PR by 0:58). Kipping pull-ups, chest to deck push-ups, anchored AbMat sit-ups, squats to med ball.

Came into this one with a sore everything. I also ate a bunch of junk food during the day. So just the fact that I go through this with out facing Pukie, something difficult to do even when I eat right, is a shocking accomplishment. This was a tough cycle.

Doing this workout tomorrow; looking at the times I need to reassess what I think it realistic for me!

As for the quote it sums up what we should all be about. Crossfitters are competitive by nature (you have to be to take such pain) but who are you competitive against? Are you trying to beat the guy next to you? More properly you should be trying to beat yourself. No one ever improved by beating external foes; face the internal ones!

Feel free to disagree!

I really wanna do this one, but my legs are absolutely fried from doing loads of squats and plyos yesterday. I have trouble getting off the floor. Perhaps a gymnastics session for the upper body is better.

By complete chance, I picked Barbara to do yesterday while sailing around the Adriatic sea, since it was a bodyweight WOD. I didn't realize until I checked the CF site later that it was the actual WOD.

I did the pull-ups on the hanging trellis of a boat lift in the port we were sleeping in yesterday. It swung around a lot, so I did dead hang pull-ups. Games-style push-ups (lifting the hands off the floor at the bottom).

I plan on really working the chest to bar pull ups hard by putting them in every WOD. My rationalization is that the deeper pull will help translate into better muscle up strength. Plus, you can get better at doing regular chin over the bar pull ups by doing chest to bar pull ups, but not vice versa. Also, before "Barbara," I did 5x5 squats @ 245# and 5x5 shoulder press at around 120#.
