The "While My Son Serves" article was on point far as i'm concerned. Well written dude!
Awesome back yard gym!! 13mile mountain bike ride today 1hr 20min
Just read "While My Son Serves"
War sounds like all around good family fun with a few downsides.
What is mounted to the tree directly behind Parker? A somewhat low pull-up/dip bar?
that is a sweet home gym parker.
While my sons serves was absolutely tracking. Great article. Gives you a feel of how many of our parents/wives/husbands/etc maybe feeling.
That is a great backyard gym :D
Smoking gym Parker. Watch out for those northern Ontario mosquitoes while your WODing; they're so large one of them carried off my dog once.
Maple, Ontario
i need the plans for the rack. great job
My lower back thanks thee for the rest day
The picture took me so many different ways. The joy of WODing in that setting. The Spartan but "world class" nature of the setup. The wistful thought of an adolescence for me long gone and how it might have been different with CrossFit. No regrets, but recognition of potential in the young. WOD on. NICE!
Today is my 20th birthday. I started CrossFit at an affiliate 2 months after I turned 18. When I started, I was unconditioned (not deconditioned because I had never been an athlete), I thought running a mile straight was a very long distance, I could not do a pull-up to save my life(literally) and didn’t know the difference between a split jerk and a shoulder press. Lifting heavy objects was hard work(or simply impossible) and playing pickup soccer was a lot more tiring than it should have been. Something needed to change.
Fast forward to today, I can now run a mile for warm up(or at the beginning and end of a WOD like Murph) and I have run a 4k in 20:46 just for fun. I can do one dead hang pull-up, multiple kipping pull-ups and I am even working on getting a muscle up! I love the Olympic lifts(probably my favorite movements) that I would never have learned if not for CrossFit. I have recognized an improvement in functional strength countless times over the past year and a half when I lift something with an ease that I did not have before. Most importantly, moving is fun again; I love waking up and feeling like an athlete. I feel like I have been given another chance at life that I didn’t even know was obtainable.
CrossFit has changed my life. This is a thank you to everyone in our dynamic community who has played a part in making that happen. Thank you for making elite fitness accessible to someone like me.
All the best,
Dawn
In this exciting season of the Crossfit Games, with all of worthy accolades for the extraordinary athletes involved, Dawn #14 sneaks in on tiny feet to remind us of the true genius, the truest value of Crossfit.
Happy Birthday young lady! Not only are you better for having found this wonderful Crossfit thing, but Crossfit, and all of us here in the cybergym, are better for having you here.
Staff Sargent Leroy is awarded the Medal of Honor for gallantry beyond the call of duty.
Hero. No quote marks. Full stop.
Hero.
YES HERO.. that is all a HERO
Ditto Bingo's comments...both of them. Semper Fi
Sweet gym Parker! After seeing RAW's epic gym yesterday, and now this today, it brings me back down to earth. Just goes to show that there is really no excuse for not training! Zach Even-esh, Blair Morrison and others also rock outdoor/park workouts too, so even in a pinch, little to no equipment needed.
Parker that is sick, keep it up bro!
Bingo, thank you for the birthday wishes! The CF main page is undoubtedly better because of your posts. Reading one of your always well thought-out comments never fails to brighten my day!
Scott, ditto my first sentence. ;)
Made up yesterday's pull-up/hspu WOD today. Results posted there.
Dawn- great story. You are an athlete. Keep it up, and happy birthday!
Fantastic rest day WOD at Crossfit Franklin Lakes in NJ!
Operation Phoenix!! Grueling workout! Thanks so much to Wilson for fantastic welcome and coaching at your box this week while visiting from S Florida Crossfit Hardcore!!
I just noticed that Pukie is now posting the WOD. I guess I've been away too long...
40 min rest day run. 10 mins to beach, 6 laps on beach, 15 mins back.
To Dawn...happy birthday! You sound wise beyond your years. Keep it up girl!!
Love the home gyms! Although I have recently affliated, PETN1.66 CrossFit, I haven't found a building for my box. So, we train in the parks or any place we can find. My former employer (I live in a small town and worked as a trainer at globo gym) is now trying to stop me from training in the park. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Never quit!

Happy birthday, Dawn. I second Bingo's comments and add that CrossFit and the community is better for having you part of it. If you are in LA for the Games, please drop by the broadcast booth to say hello to the world. We'd love to have you. Ask for Marty.
And nice gym Parker. I met a guy from Manitoulin Island once. A real old guy, rickety knees, meddlesome shoulders... he was called Jon Balfe. Maybe you know him. If you do, tell him Marty says hi.
More better faster
Happy Birthday, Dawn! Your story made my day :D
sweet rig, Parker!
Marty, are you serious? Because that would be beyond-words-amazing!!!
I actually was not planning to go to the Games this year (I live in Michigan) but now I am going to see if I can make that happen. Does anyone have an airplane and want to fly me out to Cali? haha...but seriously, if I can make arrangements I will be there. If not, thank you CrossFit community, this was the most memorable birthday ever!
I am doing that to my basketball. What a great idea to make a medicine ball!!
25:04, that dumbell gets pretty heavy around 80 m!
I've been a couch potato for the last 3 years...time to suck it up and get back into shape. 41 years old / 237 lbs / 6'2" / 30 lbs overweight. Completed WOD in 33 minutes then lied down for 15 minutes because i felt i was going to throw up and was dizzy ! Didn't quit ! See you all tomorrow !
