"The earth is getting warmer, lets tax people and get rich says the left." No, the earth is cooling, says the right. We the people are confused, is it global warming, or cooling, or is it all just another way of taxing the people?

Too funny!

Thank you Kevin and CF Singapore for hosting an awesome level one cert. The instruction was very professional and my fundamentals have certainly improved just in one weekend. One of the best parts for me was seeing the international interest that CF is generating. Very cool.

More Prowlers!!

Hello again to all the classmates I had the pleasure of meeting!

Thanks once again to Russell, Doug, Tracy and Coach K at CFSG for what were an amazing two days. Was fantastic to meet other CF athletes from Singapore and beyond - a great eye opener in terms of this ever-growing community. Hope all who were flying home had a smooth and safe journey back.

Trainers, you taught us about virtuosity - there was no greater example of that than in what I saw and heard over the weekend. I have been lucky enough to attend several of the hundreds of courses within the fitness industry, but you guys left me feeling enlightened - you ARE doing the common, uncommonly well. Thank you.

Thanks to Joe, Joe, Nicole, Doug, Chuck and Brandon for the high class instruction this weekend in Chicago! You all inspired those of us "part timers" to make a difference. I'll be bringing everything I learned back to Cannon AFB, NM and applying it to my AF training. Keep up the good work and thanks for pushing us!

Hugs, Ro

Hello recent level 1 certee's.. quick question, ive heard word of mouth that a cert cost 1K to attend, but when I did recent about the upcomming one in GA it just says "a $250 deposit is due, and you can pay full price 6 wks before" It never says the total cost. Can someone pls tell me what the going rate for CF-L1 cert is?

Comment #14 - Posted by: Joe-fiT at June 26, 2011 9:22 PM

Awesome home gym video! If I were that handy I'd do some of that stuff too! Ha!

Comment #15 - Posted by: Hugh at June 26, 2011 9:55 PM

#11 - Yes, $1000 US.

As for the Little Ice Age article, this is just another climate skeptic going on a little shred of evidence that MAYBE things will cool.

Be real. We treat our earth horribly. The group of people that read this page treat their bodies well, but are we doing the things that will let our children (and children's children) do the same?

Even if the reduced temperature thing were true, should we stop all legislation and activities that are going to reduce our effects on the earth?

This article is from a climate skeptic, who at the end directly takes a shot at Gore. I wouldn't take it too seriously people.

Comment #16 - Posted by: JohnB at June 26, 2011 10:05 PM

Left the Coach's Prep Course with tons of knowledge. Miranda, Chris Spealler, and Austin are some of the best coaches/lecturers CrossFit has to offer. The course is extremely useful for any beginning or seasoned coach.

Thanks all you guys at the CrossFit seminar in Sthlm! Awesome weekend!

Comment #18 - Posted by: Anders Fernette at June 26, 2011 10:30 PM

Wow, the big chill article has to be one of the most idiotic articles I have ever read. So blantently political that is looses any shred of credibility. If I was the author of the study in discussion, I'd be ashamed to be represented by such an ignorant blogger. Unless of course it was the intentions of te scientists to pursue a political agenda as well.

The Agenda 21 article is needlessly alarmist. The U.N. is not well-organized enough to take anything over, so time spent worrying about some insidious plot to centralize all power in one evil entity is time wasted.

As for the lack of specific definition of sustainability, have you ever tried to get a group of people to agree on anything in writing? How many were there in the group? How diverse was the group?

CF is all about preparing for the unknown and the unknowable. Doing your homework in a wide variety of skill areas so that you will be more ready to adapt to and handle the challenges of the future. That to me is what sustainability is about as well. Being responsible enough to look forward and try to evaluate our current situation and our future possible needs and to adjust our plans in such a manner as to secure the best long-term future under a variety of potential future scenarios.

Hope for the best, but plan and prepare for something worse than that because we all know that it is coming. Be a better steward. Take better care of stuff. Leave some for future generations, and don't crap where you (or others) live. Give our kids a fighting chance to improve the world that we leave them.

Simple common sense does not have to be a polarizing political point of contention.

Had an absolutely wonderful time at Reebok CrossFit 1 for my cert this weekend. The coaches were ridiculously good. I think Ben Bergeron could coach me to be able to fly given a week or two.

I can't say enough about the entire staff. I'd fill this entire thread.

It was my fellow crossfitters, however, that made the weekend so much damn fun. It was a great group of people.

Has anyone read the Glassman (coaches father) article posted in the Crossfit Journal about how the sun--not people-- is causing "global warming?" Funny, because the posted article for today appears to totally contradict what I remember to be Papa Glassman's thesis.

Also, "Unprecedented heat scorched the Earth's surface in 2010, tying 2005 for the warmest year since accurate records began in the late 1800s... Earth's 2010 record warmth was unusual because it occurred during the deepest solar energy minimum since satellite measurements of the sun began in the 1970s." You can follow up on this quotes @:

The posted link gives an overview of this past years abnormal, severe weather.

Quick shout out to Crossfit (and proof it works). I've been participating in Crossfit for 19 months. I completed the ToughMudder in Colorado yesterday and absolutely rocked it. The only training I did was Crossfit, and two days rest before the event.

I wish there was a WOD today!

Comment #43 - Posted by: RWSix at June 27, 2011 9:29 AM

Thanks to all the trainers that came out to Atlas Crossfit! You did a great job teaching so much in such a short amount of time. Can't wait to put that knowledge to work back at Ft. Knox!

Comment #44 - Posted by: Daniel at June 27, 2011 10:13 AM

Oahu just held a great KIDS Cert! Thanks to the Martins, Todd Widman, and Aimee Lyons for their great teaching as well as sporting an ice cold case of local brew at the end of each day - which is not necessarily part of the Kids' curriculum, I've come to understand.
The Martins are passionate about their work and willing to talk shop about the games and all kinds of training. Thanks for the a weekend of great information!

#35(Erik P.) - Yourself and the rest of the CF Seminar Instructors (Stephan(i)e R./Bret F./Nadia S./Eric O./Jason K.(Beast)/The Josh Everett) are awesome at what you do. The CF community appreciates the wealth of knowledge you coaches share in these amazing certifications, because of my experience this past weekend I look forward to continuing my education through specialty seminars and the L2 when I meet the criteria. Thanks All including the attendees. Stephan you ran an awesome cert!! Good luck in the games Khalipa.

(TL;DR version: read the last paragraph of my post)
(All links are work/family safe)

The Newsmax article completely misrepresents recent scientific announcements, presumably to push a political or ideological agenda.

The article (blog?) is more or less a reprint of an article from The Register ( http://bit.ly/l68DK2 ). Neither article names the papers they are reporting on (never a good sign), but you can find the June 15th announcement for the papers on the National Solar Observatory's press page ( http://www.nso.edu/press/ ). The actual names and authors of the papers are found in the citations at the bottom of that announcement.

Specifically, their announcement ( http://bit.ly/meFN47 ) summarizes the papers, where each research team used a different set of metrics to predict that sun spot intensity will diminish in the upcoming solar cycle. To put a finer point on it, these papers *only* speak to sun spot predictions in the upcoming cycle. To extrapolate these predictions to assert claims about an impending ice age is intellectually dishonest *at best*, and completely misrepresents the authors and their work.

After this announcement was published and picked up by the press, the original announcement on the NSO site was updated with the following quote by Dr. Frank Hill, author of one of these papers and who is quoted several times in both the Newsmax and Register articles (no emphasis added):

"We are NOT predicting a mini-ice age. We are predicting the behavior of the solar cycle. In my opinion, it is a huge leap from that to an abrupt global cooling, since the connections between solar activity and climate are still very poorly understood. My understanding is that current calculations suggest only a 0.3 degree C decrease from a Maunder-like minimum, too small for an ice age. It is unfortunate that the global warming/cooling studies have become so politically polarizing."

I was very impressed with all the hard work the Martins have done to provide us with the tools to apply CrossFit methods to kids with great success. I can't wait to get a Kids program going at my box. Thanks to Conner, Jeff, Mikki, Amy and Todd for putting on a great seminar at crossfit Oahu. Hey Todd when are you actually going to be in one of the cert pics?

Comment #66 - Posted by: Christopher Douglas at June 27, 2011 11:48 PM

The problem with Opinion pieces is they are just that: opinion. I'd like to see some concrete studies instead of mindless left vs. right he said, she said blog battles. I really don't give much thought to what commentators have to say, they're paid for their opinions, which I could really care less about. Again, I'd like to see the facts and the studies and not these types of inflammatory and baseless posts on the main site.
