Love the more consistent inclusion of strength stuff recently.
Does it matter if it's a split jerk or does it have to be a "regular" parallel stance? Thanks.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Tay Zonday steps away from the barbell to breath :)
got any tips how to increase your clean and jerk? ive been stuck with 190-200 lbs for the longest time. im age 24, 5'11" and 176 pounds. thanks more power to crossfit!
I post here rarely, if ever, but I gotta post to say...SWEET PIC!!!
245# @185 BW and 18 years old
225x7, really good exercise to work on my clean form and a good stick and hold on the jerk. Thanks Coach.
Fails were on jerk.
Please keep the socks pulled up. I don't want to grab a bar covered in your DNA.
(new to crossfit and powerlifts) 135-155-165-185-185-185-185
Is this a squat clean? or a power clean? or whichever you want? I'm sure that this has been asked and answered before, so forgive me for asking again but I just can't remember.
@10. If you look at the picture and read its location you
Might understand why the socks are pulled up and you might want to retract your statement
Makes you wonder why so many politicians use twitter. Come on, guys. Do your dalliances on the blackberry like you used to . At least a mistake on that won't send your undies to the world :)
195 (failed on jerk only 10lbs off PR)
He looks like he is going to heave that ball right over the wall and into enemy territory.
M/45/5'11''/177 Started CrossFit 1 Mar 11.
Nancy (my first) kicked my but yesterday. 21:20 counting the walk between track and weights; but who am I kidding? I needed the breaks! Only used 75 lbs and my O.H. squats are not as deep as Rx'd. But, kept the weight overhead and finished.
May have to skip C&Js today in favor of LawnFit. Darn grass....
225 -- failed jerk
Don't feel like I get enough out of the strength days because I'm not in a gym where I can ditch a weight w/o consequence, and because I don't have anyone watching my form. Suggestions appreciated.
Didn't want to hurt myself. First ever c & j over 85 lbs.
Fun! Getting stronger quick!
Wall ball on a T-wall: brilliant!
I felt the same way for the longest time.
Finally after crossfitting for a year I said "F" it and brought a sturdy squat rack used and a set of bumpers. Best investment ever. Now crossfitting for 20months I have built my garage gym, am one level certified and spreading the crossfit love to my neighbors and friends. Long reply but the point is a squat rack and bumpers are a great hing to have at home.
Good luck brother.
Clean and Jerk 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 reps
185lbs F got the next one
200lbs F got next one
200lbs F,F got the third
No PR today it was a weird day. On the miss at 185 and 1 miss at 200 I got a head rush after the clean in the rack position, I had to dump to keep from passing out.
The last two misses at 200 were just psyche out. I tried to force it and just wesn't set. Good day though. I havent worked on cleans in months and it

225-235-245-255-265-275(fail on jerk) 185lb male
#7 shakeandbake, I was stuck right where you are for the longest time, then a friend showed me the following workout that seemed to help:
5 rounds for time:
15 DL, 12 Hang power clean, 9 front squat, 6 push press/push jerk using 135#. Of course, feel free to scale as necessary to keep it around 12-15 minutes.
I just got a pr too!
185, 205, 215, 225, 235, 245(pr)!, 255f, 255f, 245
I believe in 7 successful lifts to satisfy the wod.
I love the strength training that's been added.
255-form on the clean broke down
275-got the clean, but got half way up on the jerk and lost it. SO CLOSE!
It seems like my shoulders are getting abused by these workouts everyday!
Pr is 255
Re: Weiner/twitter article,
I think it's absolutely ludicrous to blame Twitter's build on Weiner's downfall. What he did was the same as any jerk in the office who accidently hits "reply to all" instead of "reply" to send his coworker something stupid. If you're going to send out something stupid, make sure don't make the stupid mistake of hitting "reply to all." There's no sympathy over workplace email, so I certainly don't have sympathy in the social network. It was his choice to make a twitter account, and his choice to misuse it. Twitter didn't ruin Weiner, he ruined himself. I feel like some people have an agenda to demonize privacy practices of social networking outlets. How about keeping an eye on personal responsibility? Any information you share through social media is shared on your own accord.
Sorry for the rant, worked to 205 lbs.
@comment 25. I feel the same way, but about a week ago at my gym (NYSC) I said screw it and just did what I had to do. A trainer kicked me out and I spoke to the manager about my goals, what crossift is, and how I can take my money somewhere else. She suspended the trainer! And we're discussing purchasing bumper plates!
What is the general crossfit consensus for pre-workout supplements?
i love cross fit.. slowly i have been buyin in more. slowly but surely letting go of some of the bodybuilding style workouts/mentality that i picked up through the years.
love the intensity. hate the same day notice for wod's. but keep it up crossfitters.
You definitely lift different when you know you can ditch the weight, I didn't have that option today and it showed. I was more worried about being able to control it on the way down then the fact that I had little problem getting the weight up. I ordered some bumper plates, so this wont happen again.
85 95 115 125 125 135 145f
Failed on the jerk part of the movement. Did this right after "Nancy" so my arms were kind of tired.
First time all squat clean
PR is 225 with pwr cln
200 by 5's to 225; 205 last rep
I would have loved 230, but matching my 225 max was battle enough! Good WOD working with threshold weights

Happy with results...getting stronger.
165 (PR and body weight)
Full squat-cleans, baby!!!!
I leave a lot of weight on the floor because I cannot fail a rep. I'm pretty sure I have a 160-165 in me.
225 across. so ugly, some power cleans and push jerks in there for good measure.
Just did these yesterday, and got:
So, today did 3 rounds of:
65# power clean, 21 reps
135, 145, 155, 165, 175 (failed jerk), 175 (failed jerk), 175 (PR & body weight)
So happy I got that 175 up.
135-155-185-205-215(F Jerk)-215(F Jerk)-205
(Slight Press Out on 210, but I'll take it!)
1-7 155# Clean and Jerk
30 K's to E's
25 Push Ups
then ran 400m in my new Vibrams--b-day gift from Nutfam :-)
2010-05-23: 185 (pc's)
all were power C & J
PR is 240. Struggling on squat clean again.
195-195-205-215-225-235(failed clean)-235(failed clean)
PR for a clean is 230
PR for a jerk taken from a rack is 270
I am so close on that 230. I just need maybe an inch more height on the bar coming up to get under it. Next time.
As rx'd.. 7x1 clean and jerk
75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75
I focused on form instead of going heavy.
Then, I did tabata w/ GHD sit up, jump rope (high knees), and push ups.
Back after 2 days of travel, no workouts and bad road-food...decided to partially make up for missing yesterday's run-OHS WOD in an extended warmup...
w/u: static neck-shoulder, cfwu x 1 (10's), 10T2B, 5 pullups, 200m row.
Then scaled / subbed 6.16 WOD for a sort of metcon w/u: 3 rounds for time of 500m row, 65# OHS x 15 reps (3/4 ROM on OHS--to about parallel). Time: 11:28
skill w/u: mini-Burgener w/u, 65-85-105 C&J 1 rep each
w/o: C&J 7x1 - 115, 120, 125, 130 bad form, 130 better, 135 clean yes jerk fail, 135
Pumped to overcome 6th round jerk-fail and get 135 in 7th round. I believe this is the second time I've done C&J in any WOD, and a 50-60# gain.
c/o: Tabata pullups, 8 rounds to get 35 and make it '50 pullups a day' (day 3)
L-Sit progressions - 20 secs.
If CF is about 'me vs. me' then the new-old (current) me is kicking the tail of the old-old (35-48 yr old) me. How fun is that.
Warm-up: Row 1K 3:38
165-175-185...then a battle against 195.
1. Failed twice on the clean @ 195
2. Cleaned 195 successfully, then three unsuccessful split jerk attempts.
3. Cleaned 195, split jerked unsuccessfully, then pushed jerked it up finally.
Going overhead is such a god awful weakness for me.
Am I the only one who would love to see a single rep max load TGU at the Games, maybe after a double pyramid Helen-esque workout?
@ #45. I was wondering that question myself.I would be interested to see what supplements cf's take or if the thrill of the WOD would be enough to get you jack'd.
W/U: 3 rounds of 250m erg row; GHDSU, 10x; back ext, 10x; HSPU, 10x. C&J, 3x1 at 135-165-200.
As Rx: 205-210-215-220-225(fx3).
C/D: 225# C&J, fx1 (had to try one more time); strict pull-up, 10x; strict hammer grip pull-up, 10x; strict chin-up, 10x.
Tied PR at 220. All cleans were power and all jerks were split. Appears to be a mental barrier preventing 225. The pull is high enough, but I won't allow myself get the elbows around the bar. Frustrating.
First time EVER doing clean and jerk! working on the form at this point:
Row 400m warmup, CFWU x 3, a couple practice C&J's at 135lb, then WOD as Rx.
At the globo and can't drop the weights, so it's nerve racking to approach failure. Finished with squat cleans 155lbs x 10, 5 bar muscle ups.
This was a pretty exciting wod, i haven't been doing much specific "strength" work and to nail a 20 lb pr made me happy.
225 (fail on jerk)
235 (hurt back on clean and stopped)
Guess I should have taken it easy today.
Went to 155, after 3RM squat 225.
Form needs work, was more of a push/power jerk
Last time hit 185 1RM
Recovering after 1wk cruise slothfest.
@Matt D #42 - agree completely. Have long believed that technology is neither good nor bad, rather it simply enables character. In this case, a shining example of faulty character/judgement, magnified by the miracle of the social network.
Power clean/split jerk
Failed on clean at 265
135-145-155-165-175-185-190(f clean only)
split jerks - full squat cleans
C&J 1rm: #195
Also did CFFB's "Kalsu" hero wod today. Hardest wod so far. Definitely a mental toughness developer. Throughout the entire wod, my body wanted to stop at 50, then at 75. I did it modified at #95 instead of the killer #135.
On the minute:
Max Thrusters, #95
The goal is to complete 100 thrusters.
haven't done these since high school...+20yrs!
totally missed 1st 205, racked 2nd in full squat, but couldn't stand up.
cashed out with a 1/2mile walk and 12 jumps onto a high jump mat. 3 narrow, 3 wide stance, 3 narrow from seated on milk crate, 3 wide stance from seated on milk crate.
just started CF(110511) and I love it. M/39/256lbs, yeah way overweight, but not for long!

135-145-155-165-175-185(PR)-195(clean, failed on jerk)
I have a 195 clean, close to 205 but only a 170 split jerk. Any suggestions on technique or improving strength for the jerk?

185, 205, 215f, 215f, 215, 225f, 225f(225 is old PR)
I never had this much of a problem with cj when I was doing the globogym style training. I feel more functional with CF but not nearly as strong. We as Crossfitters appear strong because we are able to do say OHS with decent weight because we are familiar with the movement...it doesnt make us stronger than a dude who is curling 60# dumbells for reps of 12 or shoulder pressing 115# dumbells for reps.

I did a few extra since the failed reps were more like high-pulls and I didn't even get under the bar. Wanted to get to 150 today; maybe next time.

I believe you are correct, and it goes along with the moniker "CF makes women bigger and men small" CF will tend to parade a few special athletes, most with previous power-lifting/strength&conditioning backgrounds, in front of everyone to prove that we have the strongest athletes, but that is not true. I would, however, say, that, on average, CF'rs have a higher strength/endurance than most athletes. What you might need to remember is that that guy in the gym doing isolated movements get strong in certain planes of movement only, but yes, he still gets stronger.
Also, please remember that CF is much more concerned with POWER PRODUCTION than strength. Power production being strength application via force equation. This is why military/LE communities have used CF so much. If you go through a door and the guy on the other side is a bodybuilder, who remains standing. All other things equal, the one who applies the most force and aggression in the shortest amount of time.
If you wish to CF, yet retain a higher level of strength, then simply modify your volume of pure CF (heroes, WODs, and complexes) and specific training. Most of us trainers do our own brand of CF, and that is what makes it magic. IT IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT!

This time 145 was a full squat. Really struggled to stand up, but got it. Didn't want to go heavier, felt my self losing lumbar curve. My lack of ability to squat heavier is what is holding me back!
CFWU-3. 12 pushups instead of HSPU 3rd. Superman. Burgener. K to E. Row 500m.
Got clean at 200, but not jerk. Clean not bad but jerk tech terrible. Need to keep bar still in rack position. Dipping bar forward. Losing all power. Hips back, knees forward, chest upright in dip.
11/12/09: 135,145,155,165,175,185,190-F on jerk.
9/5/09: 135,145,155,165,175,185,195. Didn't attempt jerk portion on last 2 sets.

the cleans aren't a problem.. the jerks are.
I was pretty much pressing them out at 145 and wasn't managing to jerk it. Lots of room for improvement there. My wrists felt Ok as did my shoulders so I'l have to keep working on it. I now there's a lot of room for improvement.
255 (fail, clean)
255 (fail, jerk)
260 (fail, jerk)
Squat cleans and split jerks. 260 is 10# PR for the clean. My trouble today seemed to be moving quickly and being aggressive to get low enough on the jerk. Next time.
