Love the more consistent inclusion of strength stuff recently.
Does it matter if it's a split jerk or does it have to be a "regular" parallel stance? Thanks.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

225x7, really good exercise to work on my clean form and a good stick and hold on the jerk. Thanks Coach.

Is this a squat clean? or a power clean? or whichever you want? I'm sure that this has been asked and answered before, so forgive me for asking again but I just can't remember.

Might understand why the socks are pulled up and you might want to retract your statement
Makes you wonder why so many politicians use twitter. Come on, guys. Do your dalliances on the blackberry like you used to . At least a mistake on that won't send your undies to the world :)

M/45/5'11''/177 Started CrossFit 1 Mar 11.
Nancy (my first) kicked my but yesterday. 21:20 counting the walk between track and weights; but who am I kidding? I needed the breaks! Only used 75 lbs and my O.H. squats are not as deep as Rx'd. But, kept the weight overhead and finished.
May have to skip C&Js today in favor of LawnFit. Darn grass....

Don't feel like I get enough out of the strength days because I'm not in a gym where I can ditch a weight w/o consequence, and because I don't have anyone watching my form. Suggestions appreciated.
Didn't want to hurt myself. First ever c & j over 85 lbs.

I felt the same way for the longest time.
Finally after crossfitting for a year I said "F" it and brought a sturdy squat rack used and a set of bumpers. Best investment ever. Now crossfitting for 20months I have built my garage gym, am one level certified and spreading the crossfit love to my neighbors and friends. Long reply but the point is a squat rack and bumpers are a great hing to have at home.
Good luck brother.

The last two misses at 200 were just psyche out. I tried to force it and just wesn't set. Good day though. I havent worked on cleans in months and it

#7 shakeandbake, I was stuck right where you are for the longest time, then a friend showed me the following workout that seemed to help:
5 rounds for time:
15 DL, 12 Hang power clean, 9 front squat, 6 push press/push jerk using 135#. Of course, feel free to scale as necessary to keep it around 12-15 minutes.

Re: Weiner/twitter article,
I think it's absolutely ludicrous to blame Twitter's build on Weiner's downfall. What he did was the same as any jerk in the office who accidently hits "reply to all" instead of "reply" to send his coworker something stupid. If you're going to send out something stupid, make sure don't make the stupid mistake of hitting "reply to all." There's no sympathy over workplace email, so I certainly don't have sympathy in the social network. It was his choice to make a twitter account, and his choice to misuse it. Twitter didn't ruin Weiner, he ruined himself. I feel like some people have an agenda to demonize privacy practices of social networking outlets. How about keeping an eye on personal responsibility? Any information you share through social media is shared on your own accord.
Sorry for the rant, worked to 205 lbs.
@comment 25. I feel the same way, but about a week ago at my gym (NYSC) I said screw it and just did what I had to do. A trainer kicked me out and I spoke to the manager about my goals, what crossift is, and how I can take my money somewhere else. She suspended the trainer! And we're discussing purchasing bumper plates!

i love cross fit.. slowly i have been buyin in more. slowly but surely letting go of some of the bodybuilding style workouts/mentality that i picked up through the years.
love the intensity. hate the same day notice for wod's. but keep it up crossfitters.
You definitely lift different when you know you can ditch the weight, I didn't have that option today and it showed. I was more worried about being able to control it on the way down then the fact that I had little problem getting the weight up. I ordered some bumper plates, so this wont happen again.

I am so close on that 230. I just need maybe an inch more height on the bar coming up to get under it. Next time.
As rx'd.. 7x1 clean and jerk
75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75
I focused on form instead of going heavy.
Then, I did tabata w/ GHD sit up, jump rope (high knees), and push ups.
Back after 2 days of travel, no workouts and bad road-food...decided to partially make up for missing yesterday's run-OHS WOD in an extended warmup...
w/u: static neck-shoulder, cfwu x 1 (10's), 10T2B, 5 pullups, 200m row.
Then scaled / subbed 6.16 WOD for a sort of metcon w/u: 3 rounds for time of 500m row, 65# OHS x 15 reps (3/4 ROM on OHS--to about parallel). Time: 11:28
skill w/u: mini-Burgener w/u, 65-85-105 C&J 1 rep each
w/o: C&J 7x1 - 115, 120, 125, 130 bad form, 130 better, 135 clean yes jerk fail, 135
Pumped to overcome 6th round jerk-fail and get 135 in 7th round. I believe this is the second time I've done C&J in any WOD, and a 50-60# gain.
c/o: Tabata pullups, 8 rounds to get 35 and make it '50 pullups a day' (day 3)
L-Sit progressions - 20 secs.
If CF is about 'me vs. me' then the new-old (current) me is kicking the tail of the old-old (35-48 yr old) me. How fun is that.
Warm-up: Row 1K 3:38
165-175-185...then a battle against 195.
1. Failed twice on the clean @ 195
2. Cleaned 195 successfully, then three unsuccessful split jerk attempts.
3. Cleaned 195, split jerked unsuccessfully, then pushed jerked it up finally.

Going overhead is such a god awful weakness for me.

I never had this much of a problem with cj when I was doing the globogym style training. I feel more functional with CF but not nearly as strong. We as Crossfitters appear strong because we are able to do say OHS with decent weight because we are familiar with the movement...it doesnt make us stronger than a dude who is curling 60# dumbells for reps of 12 or shoulder pressing 115# dumbells for reps.
Any takers...?

Hi CS,
I believe you are correct, and it goes along with the moniker "CF makes women bigger and men small" CF will tend to parade a few special athletes, most with previous power-lifting/strength&conditioning backgrounds, in front of everyone to prove that we have the strongest athletes, but that is not true. I would, however, say, that, on average, CF'rs have a higher strength/endurance than most athletes. What you might need to remember is that that guy in the gym doing isolated movements get strong in certain planes of movement only, but yes, he still gets stronger.
Also, please remember that CF is much more concerned with POWER PRODUCTION than strength. Power production being strength application via force equation. This is why military/LE communities have used CF so much. If you go through a door and the guy on the other side is a bodybuilder, who remains standing. All other things equal, the one who applies the most force and aggression in the shortest amount of time.
If you wish to CF, yet retain a higher level of strength, then simply modify your volume of pure CF (heroes, WODs, and complexes) and specific training. Most of us trainers do our own brand of CF, and that is what makes it magic. IT IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT!
Cheers,
Josh

This time 145 was a full squat. Really struggled to stand up, but got it. Didn't want to go heavier, felt my self losing lumbar curve. My lack of ability to squat heavier is what is holding me back!

CFWU-3. 12 pushups instead of HSPU 3rd. Superman. Burgener. K to E. Row 500m.
135,145,160,170,180,190,200-F3
Got clean at 200, but not jerk. Clean not bad but jerk tech terrible. Need to keep bar still in rack position. Dipping bar forward. Losing all power. Hips back, knees forward, chest upright in dip.

the cleans aren't a problem.. the jerks are.
115-125-135-135-145-145-145
I was pretty much pressing them out at 145 and wasn't managing to jerk it. Lots of room for improvement there. My wrists felt Ok as did my shoulders so I'l have to keep working on it. I now there's a lot of room for improvement.

Squat cleans and split jerks. 260 is 10# PR for the clean. My trouble today seemed to be moving quickly and being aggressive to get low enough on the jerk. Next time.
