Rob's pulling it more than high enough, he's just not meeting the bar!

Robs tenacity is a great example, and he's one of my favorites to watch. At the same time, what is the point of getting mad here? He's plenty strong enough, but making the same exaggerated faults each time. He jumps his right leg of the platform each miss. Especially as strong as he is, why not make this a skill session, and fix the issue?

Comment #13 - Posted by: Tom Brose at May 31, 2011 7:24 PM

Interesting that they posted the Crossfit Endurance programing link today when this week CFE has changed its programing method. Would love to see this kind of detailed explanation for the new CFE programing methodology as the brief instructions on the CFE site were a little unclear.

Agreed with #12. Obvious technical errors that, for a guy as fit and skilled as Rob, could be fixed with a little less weight and more practice. I mean, amazing that with better technicals 325# could be his 3RM.

M / 5'10" / 160# / CF'er since Feb 14, 2011 / XTERRA Triathlete / FRAN 5:57 / Deadlift 325#

I've never power cleaned until I started CrossFit, or at least I never did it correctly or with HEAVY weight ;P

115(3x)-135(2x)-155(fail)-155(f)-155(f)-155(f)-155!!!! AAAHHH!!!

10-wks ago I was capable of power cleaning 185#, but I pulled my pec while power cleaning when I lost control of the weight at the YMCA & wasnt allowed to slam/drop it. Now my progress is slow going... :\ Ugh.

I'm getting A.R.T. treatment & ice massaging (thanks K-Starr, 4-5x a day = A+)

Comment #21 - Posted by: Jeff M at May 31, 2011 9:42 PM

What I don't understand is why everyone seems to think that it's okay to count a failed rep. If you're doing Fran, you don't count pull-ups that your chin didn't reach the bar on, or thrusters where you didn't lock it out at the top. If failed reps were counted, it should say 7 attempts.

I really admire Rob, but he still has 5 more lifts to complete.

Ok, I went one further and followed the link to answer of "what is fitness?" from wolfram alpha that comment #3 posted. These are the top 10 searches from that site.

1. Bikini Body Plan

4. Win cover makeup

well- I will be subbing something else today- it will be a week before those 2 nickel sized raw red spots where my callouses used to be toughen up enuff to do a clean- The WOD yesterday was a little tough on my hands ! I put some tape on the pull-up bar on the power rack before I started yesterday- so had zero slippage on all those pullups- big mistake, ripped me up - the gym I work out at doesn't allow any chalk. Will do thrusters today .

Rob: awesome!

Comment #42 - Posted by: james.patrick [M/49/66"/135] at June 1, 2011 8:02 AM

I don't agree that Rob could easily fix his technique and get this weight as a 3RM as some has suggested. I don't know what his footwork looks like on "regular" cleans. But it seems to me that he jumps out pretty wide on these power-cleans. Probably to be able to get under the bar without having to bend as much in knees and hips. I don't think he would jump out as wide on regular cleans. If would jump out less of a distance he probably would be even further away from getting it.

Don't get me wrong. I totally believe that he could easily get this weight. But to me it looks like he would have to get down a bit deeper under the bar. And that's clearly what he wanted to avoid in this workout, since it's power-cleans, and not squat cleans.

Way to go Rob! Fantastic clean pulls. ;-)

What I don't understand is why people feel like their way is the only "right" way to do a workout. If you want to make the workout 7 successful lifts, then more power to you. If I want to make it 7 max effort attempts, that's up to me to decide. It's like the people who come on here and say any form of kipping pu is "cheating" - as long as you make sure any kind of comparison you make is apples to apples (e.g. don't go around bragging your [power clean] Elizabeth time trashes someone else's [squat clean] Elizabeth time) then why should anyone else care?

One of the beautiful things about the mainsite wods is that we can make them our own. Do your thing, let everyone else to theirs.

Ok guys,if it's a max effort day, please don't try to jump 10-15lbs, and fail 4 attempts.....

Understand that a max effort is JUST THAT!

Warm-up
5-10 rep of VERY light motion warm-up weight (40-50% 1RM)

Progress quickly through single reps of;75% 1RM, 85% 1RM, 90-95% 1RM

Begin attempts at 95% 1RM
taking 3-5min between attempts
This means you should be moving up by small increments. If you move up to large and make fail attempts, you are probably moving up to fast.

This is the MASTERY portion of crossfit. The learning of the techniques which exemplify elite athletes of EVERY discipline.

Cheers,

J. Reed

Dropped to 185 to work better mule kick and, but still not so good.
last reps at 185-185.

SO not bad, but need better form on these/ do them more often.

I CAN do 180 and 185.... I just need to do it. I felt 175 go up relatively easy. My goal was 185, but it just didn't happen today.
Even though I'm using metal plates at my gym, I don't think that made a difference.. it only makes a difference in dropping it when you're done, not getting it up.
This Is TOTALLY MENTAL. like when I go over 300 in the DL I get mental as well.
I did this with no gear or belt, etc. Although I felt kind of flat and a slight tear in my back the wieghts were moving pretty well.
I think I just psyched myself out of hte 180 for some reason.
I need to do more heavy WODs so that's why I doubled back onto this instead of one of the games WODs yesterday.
I followed up with 10 C&J with 135 in about 2:45.
I just had NO SNAP to my jerks oddly enough.
