I still wonder about some of the questions here.

@ Street

You are trying to achieve a one rep max in all three lifts.

Nope, no warm up just go straight into your max's. Yes!!!! pleas warm up.

wow indeed!

get some, go again

No way ill pr since car accident in march my back is killen me, not fun):

I meant "35", not 25. Whoops....

#2 wow yes agreed.

#1 of course you warm up you want to lift heavy weights when you do not warm up is asking for trouble.

#1- lol of course warm up, But I think you asked that to be funny

Going to try this before my workout. I am hoping to get around 750 total. Ill post score tomorrow.

m/18yo/146/5'6"

First time with this one so don't make fun of me to much... After the warm up do we just go balls out for a max, or can we build up to our max and count that as our rep? For instance, can I complete a 1-1-1-1-1 until I max and count the last rep or is this just a once and done type thing?

I am excited about this WOD, this is the first one i think i can do no problem at the gym, i am new to most of this. Saturday i got a back squat and dead at 125 pounds but that was not my max, i think i can add some more weight no problem. The press will be low as i still am not that good at that one but i will post in the morning.

Is the shoulder press standing or seated? Sorry just started CF this week.

Why do you crossfit?

Self Expression. It's an art form.

I like that answer a ton!!

Crossfit Total, about as self explanitory a WOD as you'll ever see and its the only topic of comments. No mention of the awesome inspiring Helen meets Grace? not only was it inspiring but there seemed to be A LOT of great looking women at the event. The box I go to needs to do one!!

Jason, #15- Begining with the back squat, warm up with just the bar, then go up to around your 80-90% 1RM and keep going until you determine your 1RM. Then repeat w/ shoulder press, and again with the deadlift. Finish each exercise before starting the next, ie. don't jump back and forth between lift types.

@Comment #24: Aaron? The CF Shoulder Press movement is executed from a standing position.

Community,

I am seeking advice for maintaining paleo on the military diet. I am good at maintaining in garrison but once we get to the field the MRE destroys my diligence. Any suggestions?

Jason S and others asking about how to do the CFT:

Notice that the WOD title is actually a link. Click on the blue "Crossfit Total" link for a pdf with a detailed description of the rules and procedure for this WOD.

Take some time to read it and get psyched up.

M/35/6'3"/195

Warmup:

3 min run

2 mins of varied calistenics

2 min ring work: skin the cats/dips/etc

WOD:

Dont have MU yet, subbed floor assisted MU with strict ring dips, 1 sec pause at support, then 7 strict pullups, changing grip from pronated, mixed, suppinated each round.

Completed 3 rnds + 7 floor-assisted MU & 7 strict pullups.

Limiting factor were logistics of running over to the treadmill and starting it up. Next time I'll do this WOD outside.

Thanks for the help guys. I didn't notice that it was a link. One thing I like about this site is that everyone is willing to help us newbies (only been crossfitting for about 2 months.)

Pretty pumped about this: progress. It's + 20 to CFT done on 3.9, which was most likely invalid since that was my first week of CF, I didn't know the diff b/w a press and a push press, and I'm pretty sure I push pressed that day ;)

Also gutted through squat, full ROM, and dead, full ROM, today despite torn medial meniscus (arthro this coming Wednesday) -- in fact, knee and meniscus felt fine during whole CFT experience, and still do an hour later. (Guess this is one more vote in the "squats and deads, done right, do NOT mess with knees" column)

I went for squats and deads with the more-than-a-little-stupid notion that "hey, if I screw up the knee worse, so what? It will get fixed Wednesday." Balanced that out with not pushing beyond 195 on squat when it was serious effort to come out of the squat on 2nd attempt.

After surgery, it will be a good while before I do another CFT, I'm guessing. Given that today I was an easy 20-40# under where my squat could be now with full confidence in both legs, I see 600 CFT by late summer and, hey I can dream can't I?, 650-700 by the end of the year...

It's a great cause and guys if you wanna be scared for the gals in your life, and maybe motivated to donate, look up the incidence / prevalence of b. cancer.

What's next goal -- a mil? Go for it.

Why do you Crossfit?

- Gettin' fitter in a community that honors heroes and supports orgs like Mammograms in Action, ISR / kids water rescue, etc.

- Ventilation opportunities: got rageful at the bar today during CFT deadlift @ epilepsy, b. cancer, alcoholism...

This workout ended my first month of CrossFit. Ironically the person who turned me on to it had me do this workout as my first days workout with supervision so he can get a baseline for where I was at.

I used 120 lbs. I did it in 5:53 and did all in more of a push press or jumping jerk, not a split jerk. I wanted to focus more on speed and not split jerking it. I will try this one next time using 125 lbs, then 130 lbs, then As Rx.

BS: 225X5 WU, 275 low bar warmup

355. Low bar. Best in a long time. Good job getting hips back & keeping lumbar area tight.

SP: 155. Not too bad. Much better job of big chest, tight core & lumbar on 3rd attempt. Failed @ 155 on 2nd so needed to get this weight instead of going higher.

DL: 400! Not pretty, but got it up. Good job keeping lumbar tight, chest tight & rotating feet out.
