Fitness Lonnie!!

Comment #1 - Posted by: Sean at April 26, 2011 5:01 PM

Ryan Seager, where in the DR are you and what are you doing there, if you don't mind my asking. I lived there for 2 years and I miss that place like crazy. The people, the food, the smells, everything about it.

Comment #2 - Posted by: Kade at April 26, 2011 5:03 PM

It must have been hard to try to make those cement blocks equal weight. That's awesome.

Comment #3 - Posted by: Simon/30/5'9"/180 at April 26, 2011 5:11 PM

Laurie Carver was way to classy to have had to put up with that. Come on Lonnie.. Come on Tony...did you have to treat the 2010 ladies champ that way? Could there have been at least some gentlemanly behavior? I didn't see anything there but two jackasses and a lady. Even the dog knew that was jacked up!! Too bad the dog didn't get out and take of a Lonnie on the spot!!!

Comment #4 - Posted by: Chris at April 26, 2011 5:27 PM

we need more video of Fitness Lonnie....he's a beas!

Comment #5 - Posted by: RichK at April 26, 2011 5:41 PM

Looks more like Barbells by Fred Flintstone.

That Fitness Lonnie vid is awesome!

Comment #7 - Posted by: Dustin at April 26, 2011 5:47 PM

Talk about unknown and unknowable...referring to Lonnie

Comment #8 - Posted by: Bird at April 26, 2011 5:48 PM

CrossFit should find a way to make it very clear that when entering scores for 11.6 everyone enters 0 rounds and enters the total number of reps completed (Thrusters + C2B Pull ups). Clearly it is already evident this is not understood.

Comment #9 - Posted by: Douglas at April 26, 2011 5:48 PM

Ouch! Tomorrow is going to be painful! Awesome =]

fitness lonnie is an eye sore and its almost embarrassing to see him on these videos. Humor is great, but this is just awful.

Fake puking in a bucket? What are you 10?

Comment #14 - Posted by: ryan at April 26, 2011 6:35 PM

Why 100# ? Why not 95# ?

Comment #15 - Posted by: steve at April 26, 2011 6:35 PM

Barbells? What do they use that bared wire for? Getsome!

Comment #16 - Posted by: Jason at April 26, 2011 6:47 PM

@ # 13: Everyone was prepared for 95lb thrusters and regular pullups (Fran). So they kept it Fran-ish, increased the weight scheme, made the pullups C2B, and made the rep scheme immensely harder. In essence, its all the same but everything is different. Crossfit = be prepared for anything.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Rick at April 26, 2011 6:47 PM

Fitness Lonnie = AWESOME. I'm totally adding some freakin' awesome birdies to my warm-up!!!

Comment #18 - Posted by: Sarah at April 26, 2011 6:51 PM

Love it. Lets do this

Comment #19 - Posted by: Aaron at April 26, 2011 6:54 PM

Would this be ok if I subbed the barbell with 50 pound dumbbells?

Comment #20 - Posted by: jason at April 26, 2011 6:55 PM

Lonnie is a Beas

Comment #21 - Posted by: Kyl at April 26, 2011 7:00 PM

completed all 15 thrusters and pullups in the 5th round.

Comment #22 - Posted by: Justin at April 26, 2011 7:03 PM

first. Lonnie is not a beast, he is a tool... you should have a sense of humor to pull that off, he just looks like a terd.

second. what if my goal is not to lose weight but to gain in some areas and trim in others... these workouts seem totally geared to leaning.

do those that have done this for a long time find that they have gained in overall size? or slimmed down?

Comment #23 - Posted by: jason at April 26, 2011 7:14 PM

This is hilarious! I just watched a bunch of Fitness Lonnie videos on Youtube. He is a RIOT! It's nice to have some humor instead of all serious videos! Thank you for switching it up!

Comment #24 - Posted by: Stacey at April 26, 2011 7:17 PM

@jason #20
Subbing dumbbell thrusters for barbell thrusters isn't 1:1. The dumbbells are quite a bit harder. Try 70%-80% for the dumbbells.
Of course you must use a barbell if you are competing in the open.

Laurie Carver is our 2010 Women's Masters Champion. Her accomplishment is as remarkable and honorable as Holmberg's, Clever's, Curley's and Fort Vancouver's. She is dominating the 2011 Open, finishing no lower than 5th in the first 5 WODs. Is this the best way to showcase the fittest 51 year old women on the planet? I love the Lonnie videos, but there is a time and a place for the birdie warm-up, skivvie WODs and hygine lessons...I don't see how this was it. We are on the anchor leg of The Games Open and CrossFit chose an athlete worthy of brining it home. I bet she gets her 95 reps.

Comment #31 - Posted by: Nate Jansen at April 26, 2011 8:08 PM

@25
Hey Erik
Since I don't have an affiliate in Japan right now I do these WOD's on my own and I guess I am looking ways to push past the regular WOD's, I appreciate your advice, I do you have the barbell but no bumper plates and I have to be careful not to drop the weight in this military gym. Thanks Erik.

Comment #32 - Posted by: jason at April 26, 2011 8:31 PM

Lets get it! That was freaking hilarious! Fitness Lonnie should be interviewing people at the Games!!!!

Comment #33 - Posted by: Chris J at April 26, 2011 8:36 PM

@23
Jason, it seems you are more interested in spot reduction of fat in some areas (beer gut) and putting on mass in other areas (chest & biceps)than you are in real fitness. For this I would recommend P90X. That should get you in shape in time for bikini season. Also, turd is spelled with a "u".

Comment #34 - Posted by: Sean at April 26, 2011 8:37 PM

Comment #35 - Posted by: Raph at April 26, 2011 8:50 PM

Fitness Lonnie,
JOB WELL DONE SIR! I havn't laughed that hard in a while... that was truely hilarious. I think my favorite part was when he couldn't pick up the bar, and spazzed trying furiously. Laughing as I type this.

TOO FUNNY! Nice job guys.

Comment #36 - Posted by: HILARIOUS at April 26, 2011 8:53 PM

Should be "post reps completed" NOT rounds. That is what is screwing up so many entries on the Open site.

Comment #37 - Posted by: Tom at April 26, 2011 8:56 PM

Fitness Lonnie!! That was very funny. Nice to get a laugh and see the WOD demo. The Birdie warmup and Flash underpants were nice touches as well.

FACT: Laurie Carver is the hottest 51y/o woman on the face of planet earth. This statement is absolute truth. If you don't know, now ya know.

Comment #42 - Posted by: Sean V. (M/23/6'0"/210) at April 26, 2011 10:05 PM

This was my first (over)exposure to fitness Lonnie and while he was funny at times I want to second, third or fourth the people here who have pointed out how pairing him with a class act like Laurie Carver might not have been the most respectful thing to do. Again, this isn't just an elite crossfitter, this is the champion in her division and I think that she should be treated as such. If this were merely an after WOD segment, that would be one thing but during the workout? I found it to be tasteless. Respect the game and respect the champion. Thanks!

Comment #43 - Posted by: Nik W. (M/32/6'6"/205) -A Canadian in Gyeongju Korea at April 26, 2011 10:33 PM

Ryan,

I saw a weight set just like this in a tiny town Called Bambu in the mountains of the Dominican Republic 12 years ago when I was on a medical mission with a group called ILAC from Creighton University. I wonder if it is the same one!

Comment #44 - Posted by: Pat H. at April 26, 2011 11:21 PM

Lonnie... Nothing new nothing funny. Steve-O and crew want their gig back

Comment #45 - Posted by: Kev at April 26, 2011 11:22 PM

Lonnie is a massive bell end who's Thrusters were just pants. Although I'm not sure I would want to see his tiny package full extension. Very sad.

Comment #46 - Posted by: Dave at April 26, 2011 11:47 PM

The dude was clearly invading her space and she didn't like it. Lame. Who are you goofs that think the video was "hilarious" "the best ever" "Epic"? Anyone over 15? I like funny. That was not even close to funny.

Steve, comment #15:
100 pounds is about 45 kilograms (45.359 kg).
95 pounds is about 43 kilograms (43.091 kg).
Maybe it's easier to load 45 kg onto a bar than 43? Maybe HQ was trying to make the weight used in this Open WOD convenient for the people who use kilogram plates? Maybe they just want us to suffer mentally because we have to use a heavier weight than we are used to for thrusters and pull-ups?

Comment #55 - Posted by: PatS at April 27, 2011 4:26 AM

Thanks, Fitness Lonnie! I'm truly inspired by your awesomeness!
I liked that HQ made the final week video on the light side and Lauri Carver, like any woman I know that is successful at CrossFit, wouldn't be afraid to voice her opinion if she felt she was being disrespected.
You don't get to 51 and top lady in the Masters without knowing how to take care of yourself.
Lighten up, people. Maybe HQ will post a picture of someone's side boob next week? Time to feed the haters.....

Comment #56 - Posted by: Nicole Smith at April 27, 2011 5:14 AM

Fitness Lonnie is a lot of things, but funny and awesome are not among them. Crossfit has done a lot of things right to protect/build its image, so I don't understand embracing this Lonnie bit. I guess they're doing it because it's funny to the small handful of people who actually KNOW this guy, but to the rest of us...it's embarrassing.

I've been doing crossfit for about three years and this is my first post.

1. The site is awesome. Many thanks and keep up the good work.

2. Lonnie was "kinda" funny--not hiarious, not embarrassing. I am marveling at the disparity of views.

3. Laurie was great. She kicks this 51-year old male's ass! For those that thought she was disrespected, lighten up. Laurie is, obviously, a confident, intelligent woman. She had to know what she was agreeing to. I think it's more disrespectful to insinuate that she didn't understand what was going to happen or was tricked into allowing a video to be posted that she objected to.

Thrusters murdered me. I started really well, then just go mowed down by the Ts. CTBPUs were not a problem.

70 reps with 95 lbs thrusters -- wanted to do Rx but had to make do with what was available today.

Thrusters always kill me -- unlike Fitness Lonnie (hilarious, I thought), I definitely did not have time to flex in between sets.

C2B pullups are not in the cards (yet)

So I did my usual, jerking, kicking, pseudo kip/deadhang pullups. paired with 65# thrusters.

Fitness Lonnie reminds me of Saturday Night Live. Not the good Saturday Night Live, but rather the sometimes awful skits that would go on for 5 min at a stretch when 1 min would have done. Don't get me wrong I like funny, but Fitness Lonnie's comedy is pretty week and far from original.

@ #23 Jason.
There is no scientific way to selectively loose where your body stores fat. It is gentic, so you can't just do a million crunches and loose just belly fat. You will have rock hard abs covered by fat.
2nd. These WOD right now are geared for the upcoming games, so they are not geared toward slimmng as much as they are for the brutal all around muscle endurance that the games are famous for. Hence the worlds fittest athletes.
3rd. I have put on some lean muscle doing the main site WODs, and more importantly my overall athletics is much higher now than when i was in my 20's. If you are looking more for size and strength WOD's try mixing it up with Crossfit Footbal WOD's. They are of course geared to a more football athlete rather than the total athlete. I have seen very good results from both sites, and just have fun with it.

Fitness Lonnie was insulting. If he had his own video - it still wouldn't be funny - but it wouldn't have been as degrading. But I actually watched the video to see Laurie's performance - which was truly bad ass. It's unfortunate that pathetic distraction was included.

If you want to put Fitness Lonnie in videos with other competitors - then do it with one of the celebrities that are promoted on this site - e.g. Miko, Orlando, etc.

Comment #148 - Posted by: Jason K at April 27, 2011 1:37 PM

@23 jason
Jason,
A great way to tell what a fitness program will do to you (make you big or small) is to look at its participants. In your situation you are looking to gain mass and strength. Well, if you look at the males who do crossfit, they pretty much look like the guy in the video, very lean, muscles showing (due to reduced bf), but overall not that intimidating or "strong" looking. Now of course there are some exceptions, but the majority of crossfit males are very...'toned'.

If you want to put on mass and strength, you cannot do crossfit, or if you do you need to really hit the heavy weights HARD unless you want to wind up like a crossfit male.

Do some starting strength. Get some decent numbers in bench, deadlift, squat. Then you can determine if you want to go down the path of a man, or a toned boy. Either way, kick some ass and take some names dude.

The Lonnie character is not insulting, he's just lame and not in the least bit funny. At the end of the day we are all just working out, and it should be fun. But, that was just cringe-worthy and on par with what I would expect from a 15 year old making a YouTube video.

Laurie was awesome, definitely felt like her performance was disrespected by that clown.
