Since I'm on here...just finished up the level 1 cert at CF Strong in Dallas, and if anyone is having second thoughts about the level 1 cert., its worth it. Learned a ton about CF and myself in one weekend. Joe Alexander and his crew did a great job, could have done with less overhead squats, but it is what it is. Thanks guys!!

Comment #8 - Posted by: Gill at April 24, 2011 6:08 PM

I'm gonna second the comment about level 1. Just got done with the level 1 cert in Charlottesville. Chuck, Sara, Bobbi, Chris, Nicole, and Christmas were just fantastic. This was an incredible education in the frontiers of just how much I have left to learn. Sore, happy, inspired, and much more knowledgeable than when the weekend started. This course is worth it at three times the price. (for real.)

Comment #9 - Posted by: Andy Beedle at April 24, 2011 6:25 PM

I'll second Gill's comments! Just finished up the L1 at CrossFit Reebok ONE. What an awesome weekend! Knowledgeable and passionate trainers, incredible practical experience and great information on everything from methodology & science to nutrition & programming. And quite an amazing experience meeting Greg Glassman himself! Thanks to all involved in a great weekend!!

I had an awesome time at the level 1 certification in Dallas! The instructors were amazing! They gave me the tools I need to better my skills and knowledge of CrossFit so that I will be a trainer that will change people's lives for the better. Thank you for an amazing weekend that I will never forget!

How is annie wearing short shorts and a half shirt and Mike B is in a puffy down jacket. I'd understand if he was in a long sleeve shirt, but a quilted down jacket! Is Annie that much of a beast?

Beyond excellent Level 1 cert in Charlottesville, VA over the last two days. Chuck, Bobbi, Nicole, Sara, Chris, and Christmas gave it everything they had. Learned a ton and got inspired to carry training and instruction further. More than worth the time and money.

The level one cert at Crossfit Reebok One was absolutely awsome, I enjoyed it all, and learned alot. All of the lecturers and coaching staff were great, and it was truly an honor and a privilage to meet and see coach Glassman speak in person, talk about sharing some wisdom. By the way great picture, and thanks for coming out to New England Coach!

282: strict form for a challenge = dead hang pullups, hands off the ground at bottom w/ elbow lock at top after each pushup, ass-to-grass on squats.
form changed the game for me, I was dying on the pushups, that new hands-off-ground pushup form for the games is brutal, I've been working on it during off days, just sets of 10 with a 45 second rest between sets until I can't knock a set of 10 out and it still burned me up for this: 13, 10, 12, 11, 8, 8, 9, 8.

Had an absolute blast at the Level 1 Cert this weekend at Reebok CrossFit One. The staff of rock stars completely blew me away with their knowledge and articulation of every movement, teaching cue, and everything that encompasses CrossFit. I have nothing but good things to say about the experience and the facility was pristine.
(Having multiple Q&A sessions with Coach Glassman wasn't bad either..)

Team,
Great JOINT WOD today, Army, Navy, AF, Marines were all present.

"Tabata Something Else"

Complete 32 intervals of 20 seconds of work followed by ten seconds of rest where the first 8 intervals are pull-ups, the second 8 are push-ups, the third 8 intervals are sit-ups, and finally, the last 8 intervals are squats. There is no rest between exercises.

Post total reps from all 32 intervals to comments.

Jason- thank you for the watch help, greatly appreciated the support out of your lunch hour. Thanks.

LT Abi said hello, heading in for some type of workout, 40 min run was the plan, always good to see the LT even if only in passing to and from the gym.

FOR LTC:
Pullups: 10, 10, 10, 8, 6, 6, 5, 5 = 60
Pushups: 15, 15, 12, 10, 5, 9, 9, 7 = 82
Situps: 10, 11, 11, 11, 11, 10, 11, 11 = 86
Squats: 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 13, 12, 13 = 113
Total = 341

For LtCol total score 236.

For the GC
PU= 40 ...that was a lot of ducking after the first reps of PU. The GC was spitting lug nuts everywhere, the wheels came off the PU wagon, but he recovered quickly. However, let the record reflect, those were all quality chin above the bar PU's... the LTC was batting less than 50% on his. I'm not saying, but I'm just saying.
PU- good effort there = 70
SU- solid effort there= 96
Squats = 110
Total = 316

CDR:
PU = 83
PU = 102
SU = 90
Sqts = 136
TOTAL = 411.

3/4 mile warm up before hand.
3/4 mile slow jog afterwards.
Then 15/20 box jumps, just for fun across the street.

All in all a solid workout in great weather. In, out and done.
Thank you for coming, please come again (insert "Apooh" accent from The Simpsons).

My first real attempt at getting back to doing crossfit. Started Olympic lifting again (2.5 months now) and this weekend I decided to give Xfit a go again. The (X) indicates the number of jumping pull-ups I did. I felt good in the first three sets with kipping but then I just hit a wall, probably more mental then physical. My lats felt like they were done! Did 256 reps not counting the jumping pull-ups and 288 counting them.

Subbed weight-assisted pullups with 110 lbs (first 4 reps) and 120 lbs (last 4 reps). All else as prescribed except assistance for situps (using arms to pull up). Had to walk to area for push-ups, situps, & squats which gave 10 extra seconds between pull-ups and other exercises.

Pull-Ups: 7 / 6 / 6 / 6 / 6 / 6 / 5 / 5 = 47
Push-Ups: 19 / 10 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 6 / 5 / 5 = 63
Sit-Ups: 12 / 9 / 10 / 10 / 10a / 10a / 12a / 12a = 85
Squats: 16 / 16 / 14 / 14 / 14 / 13 / 13 / 14 = 114
Total = 309

PR, but was hoping to crack 400.

Pull-ups: 61
Push-ups (chest & thighs to deck, lockout at top): 102
Sit-ups (anchored AbMat): 86
Squats (full depth, no ball): 139

I like using this WOD to experiment by changing one variable and seeing how it affects my total. Today I did anchored AbMat instead of unanchored AbMat, which is how I did them last time. Result was 12 additional sit-ups, which for me is a significant difference. Next time I'm planning to try squats to a D-Ball, which I think will also make for an increase.

I had some apprehension about attending the L1 cert this weekend in Dallas. I am extremely new to Crossfit as I only had 2 workouts prior to attending the course in Dallas. I have been a personal trainer for 10+ years and figured it was worth a shot to learn it the correct way before I got set in bad practices. I am also a veteran Marine and missed the constantly changing training we got in the corps. Joe and his team were amazing!!! Needless to say I passed the course and am stoked about getting started.

All time worst performance of sit-ups and squats. Just didn't have it in me today. Push-ups should have been stronger too, but I'm calling dog interference.

Tabata Something Else to be sure... As I am still rehabbing an impinged shoulder and can't do push-ups or pull-ups, I subbed 155lb deadlifts for the pulls and a strict shoulder press with the bar from the back rack position.

No point getting into details. It was still a great workout.

Just got my Level 1 cert. after attending the seminar in Portland, OR. at crossfit X factor. Awesome experience. Highly recommended. Stephane and his crew kept it lively. Well organized and the experience that was brought together from all the trainers was crazy good. I could have had a 3rd day to soak up some more skills, drills, and just shooting the breeze with the crossfit crew. And that's my only suggestion is maybe a longer seminar for some more hands on coaching and fine tuning of skills. Hate to leave anything out cuz it was all awesome. Thank God for CrossFit and Coach Glassman!

Incredible tabata score!

30+ pushups and 30+ situps per 20sec round?

That's crazy man! Do you have a link to a video or something showing the type of pushup and situp you're doing? My situps are super slow...and pushups are just tough after a few rounds.

Thanks man.

Comment #214 - Posted by: Raph at April 26, 2011 8:43 AM

@Brian #212,

Thank you. As far as push ups go, one thing I learned from a few marine friends to get more reps in (because in navy pt tests we have to get as many push ups and sit ups in 2 minutes as we can) is that most people waste energy and time lowering themselves down into the 90 degree push up down position and back up. A trick is to just let your body fall into that position, instead of lowering yourself, very quickly and catch yourself and explode back up as fast as you can, then repeat. It's much faster.

Also it's much easier to get more reps of sit ups in when your feet are anchored. Again don't lower yourself back down from the up position, fall back down and then explode up again. Like I said, this WOD was a typical military PT session. I'm used to it. But thank you and I hope that helped.

PU not bad results, but real tough. Pushups pretty tough overall. Tried to get good ROM. Could've been better. Need to go faster on situps to get more reps. Period! Squats not bad overall. Hips back, tight core, good breath & not bottoming out really helped. Time probably a little more accurate w/tabata timer on phone. PU little tougher w/higher bar.

I did this workout on Monday, May 9, 2011. I had to cut it to 3 tabata rounds (12 mins) due to my work schedule. Due to that, I intermixed the exercises so that I got all 4 types of movements into my workout. I did the elliptical machine for 5 mins to warm-up, then did my exercises/stretches assigned by Dr. Plutchok instead of a CFWU x 1 round. I went right into the tabata workout. I did kipping pull-ups (full body weight).

Pull-Ups: 6, 6, 6, 5, 5, 6 (34)
Push-Ups: 10, 9, 11, 10, 8, 10 (58)
Sit-ups: 13, 12, 12, 12, 12, 11 (72)
Squats: 11, 11, 11, 11, 10, 10 (64)

Total= 228

I noticed that my left trap wasn't pulling/firing as much due to the treatment. I was tired since I hadn't eaten very much today.
