i'm no expert, but i have cf'ing for a couple of years...rest period is however long you need to recover without cooling down. treat it like a heavy lifting day...

Comment #7 - Posted by: controlfreak at April 14, 2011 5:47 PM

It's like a strength day, rest as you need to, I like 3 minutes between roumds, no rest between bp and pullups. I can't wait to hit this one tomorrow.

From the Newbie Post archives...
American Idol...Newbie post...Idol...post...gonna miss Simon...

"Lynne", another "girl"! Who's been talking to Coach? Come on. Fess up. How many "girls" have we had this month? Cool stuff. If you canna like it this month you might wanna reconsider. "Lynne" is named after Lynne Pitts (don't ever forget that 'e' if you know what's good for you). She used to be a pretty awesome power lifter I hear.

5 rounds, NOT for time. You are not trying to go fast here. This is a max effort WOD. Each round is an attempt at the max number of reps you can do of body weight bench press and pull-ups. According to Lynne herself you may rest as much as you wish, not only between rounds but also between exercises. That doesn't mean you can't go directly from bench to pull-ups without rest, only that the video of Brendan doing "Lynne" isn't Lynne's idea of as Rx'd.

Body weight bench press. More than your max? Scale the weight down, of course. Only able to do a couple of reps, maybe 2 or 3? My call is choose a weight you can do at least 5 reps in the first couple of rounds. No spotter? Don't be stupid. Either use the squat rack and the self-spot just above your chest, or STOP one or two reps prior to your max. Don't go all USC tailback on us, OK?

Pull-ups? However you need to do pull-ups to do lots and lots of them. Kip like a...well, like crazy. Note in the comments how many you got each round as well as your total for both bench and PU.

I have no idea who Fran, Barbara, Linda, Cindy, or Mary are, but I know Lynne and she's really cool. Give this one your best shot, and when you meet Lynne herself tell her how you did!

3-2-1...Go.

This is a PR and also the highest bodyweight at which I've done Lynne (205#). Pullups were MOSTLY strict with kips to finish each round. I have a long way to go with chest work, though.

IMHO, all of you who did "strict" pull-ups need to RTFWoD... "Max reps of pullups". What does Coach say about strict versus kipping pull-ups? More work = mo' betta.

Somehow, had a brain fart and did as many rounds with as many reps as possible so I'm in pain, but in that got 17 rounds with 56 bench press @ 185 and 101 pull ups. I guess extra for me for what it is worth.

Sadly, kipping pullups are bringing shoulder pain these days, so kept it down to two rounds. I was so close to 62, 90% there on the last rep, arghh. Still one away from my teenage record.

Congrats on the PR Kevin, and those are pretty amazing numbers on the ring pushups. Kudos to Jennifer on the MU and healed knees. Great photo.

Thanks as always to Lynne for her excellent work on the mainsite, and the best WOD.

C/D: static stretch shoulders.

Total BP, 47 reps (tied PR). Total PU, 178 reps (new PR by 13). So my BP still stinks. A lot of that probably has to do with my left shoulder injury, which hurts with each rep. Planned on maintaining 40 reps across the board on the PU, but my grip strength wanted nothing to do with that.

I did this today, April 15, 2011. I did the elliptical machine for 5 mins then one round of the CFWU (going light on pull-ups and push-ups due to today's workout). I did the bar OH squats and TRX Y, T, and reverse Y, plus the lower ab isometrics.

My body weight is 212 so I set the bar at 210 lbs. and required assistance on my first attempt. I dropped the weight down to 185 lbs. On almost every set the last rep required a little assistance from a spotter. I did full body weight kipping pull-ups. I was very happy because on all the pull-up sets I was able to keep pushing after I thought I had finished to get another few out. This was definitely a heavy day for me and I kept it that way to get my body more accustomed to the weight despite the fact that I wasn't doing a lot of reps.

good job Keith. How tall are you? I am 5'7" and was 240 when I started a year ago. Too much powerflifting and lack of cardio afteer college sports caught up to me. I am about 210 now with a final goal being around 185-195, with the weight not really a concern as long as bodyfat is around 8% or so. I recently switched to a modified version of paleo and it has helped a lot!

As Rx'd.
BP (165#) = 15 + 13 + 12 + 9 + 7 = 56 (PR)
PU = 31 + 26 + 23 + 20 + 20 = 120 (PR)

Mrs. Miyagi
Scaled to 95# BP. Rest as Rx'd.
BP = 12 + 10 + 11 + 10 + 7 = 50 (PR)
PU = 20 + 21+ 19 + 16 + 12 = 88 (PR)

85k - 8/17, 9/16, 8/15, 6/14, 6/13 (strict)

did strict for a change. lined up two benches either side of weight bench to give me added confidence in case of a fail. worked fine until i DID fail on the last round. i made a nice filling to a barbell/weight bench sandwich for a few seconds. then i managed to slip out under the bar. there wasn't quite enough clearance but could have been a lot worse.
