Ohhh I'm excited for this. Been reloading the page for the past 45 mins.
we get to see who has the biggest gas tank. I love workouts that let you go as fast and hard as you can without taking a break unless you fall the hell out, or break because you think your gonna fall the hell out. Its like playing chicken with the workout. Balls to the wall and if your scared then say your scared and take a break to catch your breath.
Love these WODs - great job CFHQ!
Can't wait to do this one! It's right in my weelhouse.

Good Luck all Athletes!
If you're not competing, why the hell not?
Okay, I get it, its easier to categorize and score mass amounts of people on amraps. Still, I hope we're going to see something besides lightweight lift/gymnastic move amraps for every one of these open sectional wods.
My First Ever CrossFit Trainer! Great Picture Andrea!!
nice work tim and andrea making it to the mainsite pic! ;)
Did anyone noticed in the What Jason Khalipa said about he did the Workout once before it was announced?!? how is that fair to other competitors? Knowing the WOD before it is released to the General Public. @ 14:10 of the open update video
Are the "Games" pushups the standard on these? (Hand release)
Nice shot Andrea...hi to Tim!!
Any guesses on what the top scores are going to be? 15 rounds? 20? 25?
Probably a stupid question, but the standards video wasn't too specific on how rigid the body should be on the way down in the pushup. I definitely understand no scooping when you push up, but can it be more relaxed on the way down?
5 rounds + 9 dl and 11 pushups totally gassed....
@ #23...
I'm thinking at least 26 possibly a 28
6 rounds + 9dl and 10 pushups
w/ 185lb dead lift...by accident
6 rounds + 9dl and 10pushups
185lb dead lift...by accident
I'm thinking around 21-22 rounds tops. And even then it's only goig to be that way for a few legit scores. This is going to gas a lot more then it looks like on paper.
anyone else notice the reebok zigs product placement? anyone have thoughts on the zigs compared to vibrams? i feel like they may be better for box jumps, wonder how they feel for the deads
Kevin asked for guesses -- I would say 15 will be close to the top.
No matter how light a deadlift is, there is still a finite time to complete the movement, and the body weight push ups and jumps are not that easy. The requirement to lift hands slows the pushup also.
So I will stick my neck out and say 15 - just watch some fire-breather prove me wrong! :)
Fire-breathers will be in the 15-18 rd range. A round a minute is crazy impressive. I'm hoping for around 8 or 9.
yeah, I think 15-18 is about right. box jumps will be the limiters in terms of seconds per rep and also gassing
@David r - 26-28 rounds? Pushing 2 a minute average? I would to see that.....I think it will be 16-17, Spealler.
I have to say looking at the demo vid are those press up's cool? If so great for me. They look more like a kipping press-up. Using the entire body in a slight swinging motion to give some momentum rather then a struck press from the floor. If legit, bring it. More reps for me....
Not sure how I did so well on this one but got 12 rounds even. (ok, finished the last box jump on round 12 at 15:02!) Much better than the WOD 2 days ago. 29/m/195/6'0"

After running 4 miles, im still excited about doing this!
8 rounds + 9 DL. DL and PU were easy, 24" box jumps kicked my tail.
After doing this one my guess is 20-22 rounds will be possible by the top athletes.
5 Rounds + 9 Deadlifts & 12 Press Ups
Man the OPEN THIS YEAR IS GOING TO BE CRAZY.
Is the event going to be televised?????

Might be an idea to not shorten box jumps down dude, not alot of extra typing...
HQ - will you be posting another scoring sheet and WOD pdf like the last workout?
AMRAP in 15mins of:
9 Dbl kb deadlifts,28kg's
12 Pushups-hand release
15 Box jumps,24"
Total=8rounds + 9 deadlifts + 12 pushups + 5 box jumps
Pleased to get almost 9 rounds after a 2 month lay off. My 2 kb's add up to 56kg which is 80% of the rx'd barbell weight. I figured this was about right. Any thoughts guys?

9 rounds is impressive in it's own right. To get much more than 12 is going to be very difficult. it you complete your first round in 1:00 and each round 10 seconds slower than the previous, you would hit exactly 9 rounds in 15 minutes.

I agree with #15 - two lightweight metcons in a row. I thought 155 was the womens weight when I saw it. What's wrong with a 225-250 range? Hope to see some possible technical movements or heavier weight.

9 rounds. Issues with my out of place rib. Was pacing for 12 rounds before it started to bother me.
Okay, its going to be brutal just like the last one, but we are strong crossfit athletes but some weight on the bar!
Hey guys, I'm looking for others view point on how missed reps are delt with. Take this wod as an example and consider the a vidoe submission to the Open. Lets say someone gets 340 total reps. Upon closer inspection of the video you can see that he only does 12 box jumps in one of his rounds. Would you simply subtract 3 from his over all score leaving him with 337 or would you take the say that he can't start his next round until those jumps were completed (essentially negating an entire round)?
9 rounds, 9 DL's + 8 pushups.
5 Rounds + 9 Deadlifts + 12 Push-Ups
9 rounds, 9 dead lifts, 12 push-ups (crossfit), 1 box-jump

felt pretty good so i did two more rounds. 10 is a nice round number
8 rounds in .. I was looking at the clock had 8 seconds left and 5 box jumps to do.. I was already numb and out of breath, i pushed myself past my limit to get those last 5 box jumps in to get a complete 8 rounds. I collapsed to floor after that :D
great work out. Wish i could get the endurance like some of the top athletes. Guess a lot of it is in the genetics no matter how hard i work myself.

I had to do this workout at a local moron gym today as I'm out of town on business. I got crazy looks from all the muscleheads who can bench more than they thruster, and all the bored women on their hamster wheels.
FIREBREATHERS FTW
@BG,
The beauty of the AMRAP format in WOD's 1 & 2 is that you can delete those reps that do not count from the total reps completed. Witness the way WOD 1 was scored, by total reps.
What will be fascinating is to discover what Coach and Tony have up their sleeves for future Open WOD's, and how they will score them to take into account exactly this.
Awesome WOD, 9 rounds and 9 DL on the UK side with my main mate Darin hitting 9 rounds and 17 reps on the other side of the pond.

I have really got to work on my box jumps. I feel like if I had speed up on those I could have hit higher. I feel like I need to drop to 190 for that to happen though.
#54 and #79 and all other making comments on the weight and easy movements:
Have you guys not read any of the articles or watched ANY of the HQ videos? Even Greg Glassman himself stated that they aim to make the entire Open competition as accessible to any CrossFitter as possible. If they increased the DL weight or did complex movements like pistols or HSPUs, then a majority of the CrossFit population would be Disqualified due to their inability to perform one rep. They are making the weights light and the movements simple so that even Nancy Anybody who has been Crossfitting for only a month could get in the competition spirit and put up a score. No matter what the movements and what the weight, the elite athletes are going to be on top, so who cares that they want everyone to feel included. The technical stuff and the heavy weights will show themselves in the Regionals, where the competition will be more exclusive to elite athletes. HQ wants EVERY CrossFitter out there to be able to compete at some level, and they have mentioned this over and over. Try reading a little or just paying attention a little harder before you start complaining about something you know nothing about.

Due to my sprained wrist, I did a different workout today, although I may do this one later this week.
I ran a 1/2 mile on the treadmill in my socks to warm-up. Then I did one round of the CFWU going easy on pull-ups, back extensions, and sit-ups due to the workout I was about to do. I forgot to do the TRX Y, T, and reverse Y warm-up. I also did the low ab isometrics.
I did six rounds for time of:

8 dips
8 sit-ups
8 squats
8 back extensions.
I finished in 21:03. I did the pull-ups with assistance: 40 lbs, 40 lbs, 70 lbs, 70 lbs, 70 lbs, 70 lbs. I did the dips with 40 lbs. of assistance all 6 rounds. I felt a little funky doing squats, like I wasn't putting it all together correctly.

Does anyone need a little clarity on the push ups. I'm not seeing a correlation between the instruction Tony gives and the reps he is counting. There is quite a few of those push ups I would not have given credit for. I don't want to be to strict on my athletes.

@comment261 i used to scrape my shins all the time doing deads. it rarely happens now. i push my hips back harder at the start and keep lots of tension in my hamstrings. this should keep your shins a bit cleaner.

#261, scraped up shins is a sign that you are keeping the bar close to your body and hence moving it straight up and down. On days where I am going to be doing a lot of deads (or cleans/snatch) I wear a pair of tall socks (sometimes two). I have been thinking about getting a pair of calf compression sleeves for this reason too. A little chalk on the bar also helps a bit. Just my two cents..

Pure suck. There were just enough box jumps to jack up the heart rate, and make the deadlifts more challenging. Games-style push-ups were harder, but not as bad as I had expected - though I did have to break them pretty early on. Here's hoping the next couple Open WODs go a little heavier - the first two WODs have been pure gassers.

Are they drug testing for the Games this year? If they are offering real money for top competitors and not drug testing, it is tantamount to tacit approval. Human nature being what it is, once the money enters the equation, it is no longer simply about fitness. Performance enhancing drugs are a mainstay of all professional sports because of money. The CF ethos is unique because of the absence of money. I hope the prospect of prize money and a Reebok endorsement doesn't ruin it.
