Even though FML CrossFit was an unofficial affiliate we carried the high standards of elite fitness that would have made Mr Glassman proud. Our gym attracted all ranks, all services and all walks of life while we were at Dwyer for the entire year. Semper Fidelis UTSOC Det 1 and FML CrossFit!.

I'm looking for a new jump rope. Someone yesterday suggested the Again Faster Revolution. What do you guys think of that rope? Has anyone ordered a custom rope from Rogue by any chance? I really need a new rope. I have the ultra speed rope, and I hate it. I can't seem to get double unders with it for some reason while I could no problem with my old cheaper rope.

A little confused by that Forbes article. Is he calling for the government to not intervene in technological development? Or information and communications technology development? Or ICT regulation? Or simply and specifically the prevalence of broadband? These seem to be unique issues and I'm not sure he's distinguishing between them enough with his word choice.

Great poster! Love it, and love the Mendelssohn piece. Have a great day everybody.

"Worldwide" collage seems a bit off, more like middle east collage. forgetting the rest of us that are deployed to other locations :)

Comment #10 - Posted by: Al at March 14, 2011 6:55 PM

That's a great write up by Forbes, though I doubt it will convince any of the bigger-better-government crowd. It's like red meat to us free market crocodiles.

The thing that sticks with me most of all ofter five or more years trying to puzzle out compelling cases for free market is how emotionally invested the statists are in the illusion of government control, and how they compartmentalize the fact that any government undertaking is by definition coercive and therefore reduces liberty. The statists won the debate years ago by making the focus on whether or not it would be right for the govt to do one thing or another, rather than whether a govt CAN do such a thing - and without regard for the fact that once a govt embarks on some do good thing, it can rarely be stuffed back into the bottle to its former limits. Freedom once enveloped by govt is near impossible to regain.

Considering the Greeks a couple years back, it struck how alike are Hayek's "The Fatal Conceit" and all those Greek tragedies centered on the concept of hubris - the folly of men attempting to do those things which only the gods can be responsible for. The same lesson is hanging right over our heads, just as was over the birthplace of what we think of as liberty.

Whatever the govt does with the bandwidth in question, the odds of long term success are right there with the odds they'll figure out how to make Amtrack a break even proposition; not because they are bad, but because they are men wishing they were gods.

I have Mallet Finger! 6-8 weeks with only one fully functioning hand.

I'm sure I read somewhere in the Journal that if you continue to exercise the other side of your body, this can decrease the atrophy in the injured side.

Any ideas for WODs without the left hand?!

Comment #21 - Posted by: JK/m/24/205 at March 15, 2011 12:32 AM

JK: Run, bicycle, boxjumps, squats, backsquat, frontsquats (arms crossed), GHD sit ups, one arm-KB exercises. If you can't grip with your left hand simply place the palm of the hand on push up-bars or some kind of rack and then do PU's or dips. Or become the champion of your neighborhoods in one arm-pullups.

See those weeks as time to improve e.g your short distance running or heavy BS. Turn the injury to an opportunity. Hopefully you'll have time with your lefty for a long time ahead.

Those combinations should keep you busy for 6-8 weeks. Good luck!

Need some advice:

I was attempting to do king kong this past Sunday and I didnt make it out of the first rd. I failed the first rep of squat cleans at 250#. I'm not exactly sure what happened but when I got
Off the ground I was blinded by pain in my rt hand. It immediately swelled to the size of a softball. I was at the fire station so they took me to the er on the firetruck. I was x-rayed at the er and they were negative. I am scheduled
For a follow up with a plastic surgeon this afternoon. My concern is that the metatarsals are extremely sensitive to touch and my hand is still very swollen. I have had a boxers fracture on the same hand before and the symptoms are identical. Can anyone tell me if I should ask for another x ray ? Are hand fractures sometimes difficult to identify on early x ray pictures? Thanks

@Chris #4

I use the again faster rev rope. I LOVE this rope! It is durable, quick, and light which makes it fairly easy to do double unders. In fact, I was not able to do a double under at all until I got this rope. Now I can pretty easily string together double unders mixed with single unders (I have yet to master continuous DUs). The only downside to the rev rope is that there are no instructions detailing how to properly cut it. Just be careful not to cut it too short and you should be able to get your first DU in no time!

Rob Powell currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records position as the "Fittest Man Alive."

His website can be found here:

His feats are pretty amazing and you can read about them on his site. Maybe Coach Glassman can contact him and invite him to the 2011 Games and see how well he stacks up against the rest of the crew. It would be great to get somebody like this involved. So if anybody reading this comment can get this information to somebody who can actually do something with it (e.g. Glassman & Co.), that would be grand.

Comment #48 - Posted by: Lauren at March 15, 2011 5:17 PM

The Games site did not crash because of excess traffic. There are some last minute bug fixes getting addressed before we launch the competition. It's going to be epic, but it's going to be a little delayed.

Comment #52 - Posted by: Cameron at March 15, 2011 5:26 PM

Ref #48, unhappy user

I don't see how the games site going down is a failure of the marketing plan? If HQ hadn't informed us that it wasn't an overload issue, I could see this being a sign of them being more sucessful than planned, so not a failure of the plan, but an underestimation of success. This is a technical issue that won't be helped by whining. Stuff happens, especially around the end of a work shift.

Who was going to do the WOD tonight anyway? Most likely we are all going to sleep on it and hit it fresh tomorrow or closer to the weekend at an affiliate...

But the comment about Zuckerberg is a good comment, I bet if HQ posted the WOD on a Facebook page that we would all have it memorized by now....

Comment #60 - Posted by: the Real Pat Earley at March 15, 2011 6:16 PM

re: brian G , this is the reason you HAVE a launch date and time, as hq needs to understand there is life outside of crossfit, i know it's hard to conceive the notion. we had a few people from our affiliate leaving for a vacation tomorrow morning, and they too may not have an opportunity to do the WOD. I understand mechanical failures, but in the techno-world we currently exist in along with the social networking sites available, this should not happen. i don't have a doubt it will be a challenge, "epic" is a stretch, but have some consideration and respect for the time of those that have lined your silk pockets and filled that bank account.

Comment #61 - Posted by: john at March 15, 2011 6:19 PM

The Forbes piece seems to indicate that the existing broadcasters will be compensated for sacrificing the unused portion of the spectrum, but on what basis? It seems like the existing broadcasters would only have rights in the spectrum they use. It shouldn't bother them if unused spectrum is taken away, it just closes off the market from any competition coming along. Do we really want to ossify the existing broadcasters and foreclose any new voices from coming along?

Comment #62 - Posted by: Ben at March 15, 2011 6:35 PM

As today's WOD is overdue, looks very much as though the first Open WOD is also today's mainsite WOD.

Good way to get people trying it out.
Maybe some of them will decide to enter if their numbers look competitive.

Good luck sorting things out Brian and Bill.

Comment #63 - Posted by: Craig Massey at March 15, 2011 6:36 PM

#57 concerns and thoughts sounds like a loose term for bitching and moaning.

First according to some, CF sold out to Reebok
Then lives were destroyed because of no sectional events
Now, most likely the same crowd is upset with a delay for competition they have problems with in the first place.

The thrill will be just as great when the WOD is revealed better late than never

Comment #64 - Posted by: dan colson at March 15, 2011 6:37 PM

HaHa I thought the same thing about #28 earlier today but didn't say anything. About the site, sorry people these things happen even to the best. If things needed to be fixed before the launch I am sure it was so that you "perfect" people would whine less than if it was up with bugs.

Sweet poster! I didn't check the site and didn't realize it was a rest day? Good thing. I did the same. My forearms were killing me after a 3 hour afternoon nap. The pain is related to my elbow problem I almost sure of it. It's wierd though, it comes and goes through out the day. It will hurt, then go away when I work out, then hurt again after. So I'm going to take the therapist advice and lighten the weight up and work more reps. Sounds like I need to let my grip strength catch up with everything else. Peace!

Is anyone here aware of CF affiliates or individual CF'ers involved with Japanese relief efforts? Can we assist in any way?

For you myopic snotbubbling ingrates concerned about a few less hours to complete a WOD, or possibly not complete it at all, here is some perspective for you. People in Japan may die tonight for lack of food, water and living in their own excrement. Is that Paleo or Zone enough for you. Think "outside the box."

Worst case scenario given HQ was a bit slow with the site, if the WOD is Fran, take your time completing it. Turn in a sub-5 instead of a sub-4!

Comment #82 - Posted by: Rick at March 15, 2011 8:23 PM

Listen people, its the principle of the thing. If you say something is going to be posted at a certain time, do it. If it was actually a site crash I could understand that more than "fixing last minute bugs" on a website that has been up and running for a week now.

Its like in college when a teacher gives you a time that grades are going to be posted and it doesn't happen. Is it the end of the world, No. But to some people it does throw off their schedule, if they have circumstances beyond their control and have planned to do the workout tonight.

The main problem I see is that HQ could easily have posted the WOD on the main site or on their facebook page, heck why not both. As great as the money is for the athletes and the sport, it seems as though somebody else is pulling the strings now.

#84 no need to call everyone snotbubbling ingrates, I think everyone's passion for crossfit is coming out in their posts. But if somebody can explain to me why the workout can't be posted on the main site, I would love to hear it.

Comment #83 - Posted by: Billy at March 15, 2011 8:31 PM

Damn, Rick (#84), that was pretty self-righteous. God complex, anyone?

Comment #84 - Posted by: Steve at March 15, 2011 8:32 PM

i know crossfit as the community of like minded athletes whom can perform on demand, support each other, breath fire, piss lead and bleed elite. any one see greg amundsons videos on the journal of recent? only thing we should concern our selves with is what we can control/influence. should HQ have had this sorted? yes. but it is not sorted so how we respond is what matters. for me, i wont be letting this incident be the knife in the back for crossfit haters doing things like les mills, spin and juicing up in the mirror or thinking aerobics is a workout. its not the sum of our experiences that matters, but the sum of our reactions, how we bounce back as a community is what will determine our success.

3-2-1 GO!!!

Just be patient... have you ever tracked a package in the mail that says it was supposed to arrive a certain day and you really really needed it that day but it came the day after? Remember how the world didn't end? This is kind of like that. again, just be patient....

Comment #89 - Posted by: Andy at March 15, 2011 9:08 PM

The CFE website has a pretty cool looking WOD if this doesn't get resolved. Still hope it gets fixed.

Comment #90 - Posted by: joe at March 15, 2011 9:28 PM

Lots of "keeners" out there which is a good thing -- and we all know if you are really looking forward to something delays are frustrating.

But thousands of Japanese have lost their lives and many more have been devastated by the loss of loved ones and their homes.

Lets keep things in perspective - this is just a few hours of delay.

Comment #91 - Posted by: Tony Leyland at March 15, 2011 9:42 PM

Wow, or you can just do an affiliate WOD since there are 124435 sites that have WOD's. Crossfitfootball, US Crossfit, SEAL fit, ect. Or just make up your own. There I fixed it.

Comment #92 - Posted by: S.H. at March 15, 2011 9:42 PM

Okay, like (most) everyone else, I am waiting patiently for the games WOD to be posted.

I suspected something like this would happen, considering the fact that HQ has waited until the last minute to put out the pertinent details. I'm sure they will get it straightened out and take care of any issues. I do have faith in them, but perhaps it was a little too much with too little time.

I just feel a little bad for the poor web guys that are likely sitting at their computers with toothpicks holding their eyelids open as they scan through pages of computer code looking for the problems.

I know one thing, CFHQ is doing an extra WOD tonight (on our rest day) trying to fix this. This is growing pains and nothing more. We want our passion for Crossfit to spread like wildfire, then we have to be tolerant when there is a glich. Trust me I've got one day to do this WOD before I travel out of state to get my level 1 cert, I'm as anxious as all of you. But I think this speaks more to the "ginourmous" numbers of Crossfiters out there passionate and ready for the competition, then it reflects badly on the technical preparation to deal with it.

But I agree with the above posts, post the WOD on the mainsite, fix the issues ASAP after that.

My advice to those bitching about the WOD not being up is to do the "Crossfit Northern Japan" WOD.

1 round for time:

Invent and carry out a WOD that does not rely on the following utilities and services in planning or performing the WOD:

Landline phone
Nuclear power

Post time to comments. Then resume use of the above and be thankful that lack of the Mainsite WOD utility is your most pressing problem.

It's funny to read the posts tonight.

If HQ does not post a WOD you can always:

think of a date in the past and then go to it in the archives and do that WOD.

You could also do Eva or Tommy V, that should cover it.

You could also take the opportunity to go to the Journal and check out the programming articles and make a WOD up for yourself.

You could work on one of your Goats....

You could..... (not be a whiner)

Have Fun, Train Hard,

I mean this as a compliment to the people who run crossfit and this site. I WANT MY WOD!

I'm serious but I'm not. I totally understand that technical things happen that are beyond people's control which is probably what happened here. I can't fault anyone seeing as though this site is free and has helped me in so many ways.

What I meant by "I WANT MY WOD" is I now actually look forward to doing a workout, something that was inconceivable when I started a year ago. I'll get up tomorrow excited about finding out what the WOD is.

Thanks crossfit, and thanks to the people who put this site together.

WODs up.

Thank you for keeping it in perspective, #95. Let's all just take a little step back, give a little gratitude for what we are all blessed with and have a little faith that of course this will be all worked out very soon. The best CrossFit minds are working to do doing everything they can to remedy the problem.

"oh no, i HAVE to do the wod NOW",

are you not creative enough to make one up yourself? or even easier, pick one from a previous date?

nah, lets all just cry about it...

I have a feeling crossfit just fired the web design company that came in and sold them on the fact they were the best ones for the job.

There's 5 days to complete this wod. The people that are saying this is their only opportunity, those people would always be there. If crossfit hq said "you have 3 days to complete each wod" people would bitch about not having 4 days, if crossfit hq said "you have 15 days people would be on here saying "but im going on a 15 day vacation, this was my only chance!" If its really that important to you, you will find a way, absolutely.

We are all a crossfit family. So sad to see the family fighting and trashing each other on here. The WOD looks great HQ !!! Looking forward to doing my best!

According to and their Broadband Report, the U.S. is twenty-fifth in the world for broadband usage by household. Seems to me a little government intervention might up our numbers a bit.

Thank you. We said words.

That article is ridiculous.

The government did 'intervene' to propogate land lines in the united states, in fact by the 1950's the government had 'intervened' to build the infrastructure for the entire public switch telephone network that we still use today. Implementations like that are what make america better than other countries. Free market systems are incredibly efficient, they are also rampant and misguided.

You want to save money cut the defense budget. You have these under qualified idiot O-5's authorizing millions of dollars and man hours building bases in Iraq while the installation is closing and moving to kuwait just so they can build a resume. The officer corps in every branch is out of control with incentivized spending.
