Nice kids section CF by Overload.
I may need a calendar to time this one!
This makes tons of sense. It's too hard to pick up a phone and take scores from a sectional competition, but it's easy to have thousands of people submit videos and have someone view each and every one?
Whatever works I guess.
...I bet Rob Orlando can do that with a VW Bug.
I'm not sure how this new concept for the games will work, but I do hope that it will be streamed online again if I am unable to make it out to the hope depot center in july.
just did this today... 39:29 rx
Why not create a domain with an interface like Youtube or Vimeo? This way all submissions are sent directly to that sight. From there CFHQ can filter through the media.
All media, one source, might even be able to compete against traffic sent to Youtube and Vimeo. To extend that thought the website call it "CrossFitU" where all random CF wods, and so forth can be uploaded as well. Just think about how much CF videos get uploaded to these sights anyways.
What do you'll think? Good idea, bad, tweaks?
just did this today... 39:29 rx
How on Earth are you going to just form, range of motion and no illegal editing via workout's being recorded?
2:00 Fran but two of the pullup reps look sketchy? You throw the score out? What if it's Rob Orlando?
Never been scared to do a cf workout until I met Eva... I hate you already
Is 2 pood equal to 72 lbs
Nicely done Jeremy!
"Eva"~my most feared WOD. When this leg heals I'll have to take her on for the first time using the 1.5 pood.
MRI: glute muscle tying into hip bone is sprained/strained. Have to wrap my head around resting it to heal it.
@ comment 18
For submissions for Regional. Must be submitted from a local affiliate member or non-member. So my affiliate must submit the video after nominal fee is paid. set up a system to pay online as well. I don't have all the logistics down yet but I think I'm on to something.
What could be another issue. I consider myself a master of problem solving.
Mario, great idea, although I like the name YouPUKIE....lol
I am upset, won't be albe to do Eva today. Torn bicep tendon is still tweaked out, no pull ups. Did some light dead lifts today and it felt alright, but currently just lower body.
Ihink coach glassman is spot on with doing this this year. I also quite like the idea about an open like this for such an up and coming sport!
I'd love to give a go qt a few of the sectionals wods, but this damn bicep injury. Good luck to all those tht can participate!
#7 slob55
The don't have to watch every video that gets submitted, they only have to watch the videos of the people getting the top times.
Once they have the top 60 legit times(videos) for each region and they are happy with the form etc, they dont actually have to watch any more videos with times past that.
Makes sense to me
@22 Keith. Yes, 2 pood is about 72 lbs.
#7 Slob55 and #18 Tmo -
You guys are over-thinking this process way too much.
First off, every single video that is submitted doesn't need to be evaluated! Let's say one of the qualifier WOD's is Helen, and 50,000 people submit videos, but only 4,000 report a sub-7:15. Now suppose you only want a total of 1,000 athletes to make it to Regionals. Can you tell me why anyone needs to look at the other 46,000 videos? Surely no one will waste their day looking at videos of 9-minute Helens. Also, not everyone will submit a video since you can go to a registered affiliate to have your times or scores validated. Video is not mandatory.
As for illegal editing, it's just like Coach said in a previous video. Do you to be the guy who cheats to make it to Regionals only to embarrass yourself in front of huge crowd by finishing dead last in everything? No? Well, guess what, no one else wants to be that guy either.
As for judging form and range of motion, I'm sure a lot of people will have one or two reps in some workout that look dubious. But there are a total of 6 WODs and every athlete must participate in all of them. With that quantity of total work, a couple of not-so-perfect reps should not have a huge effect on an overall result. However, if you have multiple sketchy reps in every single workout, then you do NOT deserve a spot in the Regionals, regardless of who you are or what times you score in the WODs! You don't deserve to get to the next level if you cannot commit yourself to striving for legit reps.
Lastly, judging and/or refereeing issues are a concern at all sports and levels of competition, including the CF Games. Don't believe me? Go back and watch some of the WOD's from 09 and 10 and take a look at some of the fairly legit reps that were taken back by judges, and also the reps that should have not been counted, but were. This happens in all sports! Heck, even with instant replay, NFL refs still blow calls in important games!
Some of the people here need to stop complaining about every single decision made by HQ. I'm sure these decisions are not taken lightly. They probably debate and go over these things multiple times, and you people still complain as if they had decided this over a cup of coffee some Sunday afternoon.
Eva, sounds very similar to evil...hmm
Idk if i even want to time this one. its gonna be sad. what's wrong with gloves? I mean if it saves your hands from being torn to pieces then go for it. Thats like saying i'de rather workout in jean-shorts just so i can experience the chaffing.
Way to go Nick!
Chicago Elite Fitness on the main site!
sporting the gloves no less...
Regarding gloves: When I was a roofing contractor I would have agreed that wearing gloves while working out implied pantyhose issues. There are, however, occupations where callouses a man can be proud of are a serious liability. Neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and precision electronics fabrication come to mind. So unless you happen to know that he has no reason for wearing gloves it is a little meat-headed and silly to criticize his choice.
Not gonna be fun...at all!!!
This is true....
he is a doctor.
Very good points. He is a doctor...
All- There are a lot of critical and judgemental comments today. What gives?
If you don't like gloves, don't wear them. If you think someone is not as tough as you or less of a man for wearing them, keep your comments to yourself. Did you notice Nick is doing one heck of a Turkish Get-up??
@George, comment #23- Very rude comment. Please keep your insults to yourself.
58:04. KB weighed 78 lbs; joy! 1st round was 8:32; every exercise but run was broken into 3 or more. Form was correct. This WOD was an exercise in moppishness.
Pretty sure Khalipa wore gloves in the 2010 CF games....who cares!! get a life.

I don't get the rip on gloves either. Some of us work with our hands for a living. I'm a cop, I put my hands on the sick, the bloody, the drugged etc. If I can maintain my natural barrier between pathogens by throwing on some hand protection when a rip is coming I will because I can't always do so when working.
If Mikko rocked a pair or they came with your Inov8s, you'd wear them too.
2 poods is around 33 kg for all those like me who live in uk and don't have a kb. I will sub 20kg weight plate and do more reps
42:12. Gold's Gym had a lock on all the kettlebells. When I asked the girl if she could unlock them, she said no. CRAP. Stupid AZZ GLOBO GYM. Did hang Cleans instead.
To make it up to them, I threw up all over the bathroom after my workout. Thank you, 'Eva'...
@ 51
Makes perfect sense. I believe wearing gloves is something most people should avoid, but I see where some people would need to.
However, they could be very thin gloves. The pair being worn in this photo are very padded. I believe wearing (thick) gloves is like wearing thick boots on your feet ... we all know about the benefits of barefoot training!
I imagine gloves would make holding on to the bar harder, the grip less secure, and would reduce the amount of weight you could be using.
Regardless, nice work on the TGU!

One other viewpoint on the gloves issue - medical conditions. I have to wear gloves in the winter due to pretty bad Raynaud's syndrome. Basically once I grab the cold iron, my fingers turn solid white and I can't feel them. And not a "man my fingers are numb" can't feel them. I'm talking "I used to have fingers and I'm not sure that I do any longer" can't feel them. Not what you want to have happen during pull-ups or overhead work.
Typically when people make a comment about my gloves (even outside the box, as I often have to start wearing them sooner than most people) I just tell them it must be because they had a different chemotherapy than I did. That's how I wound up having to wear gloves when I work out - two years of chemotherapy, radiation and a stem cell transplant has given me this condition that makes me want to use my gloves to punch out anyone making comments about them.
The good news - thanks to squats & deadlifts, the Raynaud's is finally getting better after five years. Thank you, CrossFit!

"Coach I really enjoyed reading the new CrossFit journal. The article about how you design the program is incredible. I never realized how simple it is, and yet complex at the same time. A mathematician would probably call it "simplex". It was very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The CFJ is one of the best resources out there, in my opinion.

THE EXACT DEFINITION OF GOV'T...THATS WHY NOTHING GETS DONE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR
Been doing crossfit for about 6 weeks and loving it. Today was the toughest session yet and by Round 4 I was feeling a little light headed coming back in from the run. Swings were done in complete sets but PUs as 10-10-10s with about 20 secs rest between each set. Lots of odd looks from the others at the gym. Great fun. Keep 'em coming!

WOD #38 - First thought when I saw this workout was, "Yikes!" I wasn't wrong. I figured I would try to do it as normally as possible with my usual scale for pullups and then cap it at 45 minutes. Everything was going well until my iPod stopwatch stopped unexpectedly. I finished three rounds of 800 meter runs, 30 75 lb dumbbell swings, and 30 weight assisted pullups. It was 45 minutes of work give or take a minute or two. Yikes was right.....

My argument isn't that they will be looking at 1,000 of videos, but that they will be wasting more time than if they just had the sectionals. The time that it takes them to watch one video will take longer than the phone call (or email for that matter) from whoever puts on the sectional listing the top 30 participants. On top of that, anyone who competed in the sectional last year cannot say that the atmosphere was amazing. It will be truly missed.

Hello everyone ! Does anybody know if there's a site that has all of the crossfit competitions posted throughout the U.S. ( or just Cali )? If you do just email me back at http://www.herculescrossfit.com or just leave a comment under todays WOD. Thank you all !!!

I think I could have gone a bit heavier, but my jerk was lousy (a weak split and pressing the weight out overhead), so I tried to fix that, but it wasn't happening. I should have done the Split Jerk 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 WOD, which I missed, instead of this.

Runs really sucked today. Did the Masters WOD#4 yesterday and my legs still feel it today.
Every time I do Eva I want to quit after the first round. I think it is one of the most mentally challenging WOD's we do. I have to stop a few times during the KB swings and sand my callousses down so they don't explode in the middle of the WOD.

New PR by 6:21. Runs on outside road course (48F, 56% humidity, wearing VFF). Runs were cautious on a few icy spots, but most of the raod was clear. American-style KBS. Gymnastic kip pull-up.
The last time I did "Eva" (in May 2010), I severely sprained my ankle climbing steps leading into the house after the first run. Had to do the WOD a few hours later, subbing a bicycle ride for the runs (since I could not put pressure on the ankle). So today I beat a PR set back in 2009. Long time to exact my revenge! :) Eva still got a good piece of me, taking a chunk out of my left palm on the last set of pull-ups. She's tough!

EPIC...simply EPIC.
A great event by the whole Team. A tight grouping...mostly (good effort
there LTC)... with solid efforts all around.
Personally I am still coughing every few minutes from opening up Lung Sacks
I had not used in quite a while.
Final Results
LTC 47:15 scale to 1.75 Pood (almost there for RXd), a solid effort the
whole way. While the PU might have been sketchy getting the chin over the
bar, all 150 were done, which is a huge PR for LTC. Nicely done.
The Good Col- 42.33 RXd. I knew something was up when even a fellow O6 in
the locker room said, "My Pat, I don't think I have ever heard you so quite
with all this smack talking going around. Why is that?" The answer was
that the GC had his game face on and was looking to deliver a message that
he would not get doubled up this day. No matter what, after each 400m at
the turn, there he was, maybe giving some ground but always there, never
cracked. I figured the PU would do him in, but by golly he hung in there
each time. Well done there for a "big fella" with PU and a RUN, neither are
his strengths. Great job.
LT A: 41.52- RXd. Similarly was as constant as a metronome, I met her at the
same point plus or minus 30 yds, after each lap. Still had lots to give on
the last round of PU. She was right there with Corbin at the end. And
interestingly enough, not a single rubber band in sight as she cranked
through all 150 PU. LTC could certainly learn a thing or two on form from
"Big Hands" Abi.
LT C: 41:07- RXd. A great time. However there was a noticeable slip in the
Rnd times, the first two laps were about the same meeting place on the way
back from the run, but the last 3 laps the overall pace dropped off. Took
his ripped calluses off and kept moving on the PU though. Which are really
tough with long arms and knees that must be bent in order to not break a toe
while kipping. Would not let Abi catch him at PU, had to respect the effort
when Abi put the fear into him. Great job Team Dryden.
Carlos- great effort right out of the shoot. Wow! Fast runner, solid with
KB, kept moving in PU. However, ripped hands at #145 of 150 PU cost him and
allowed me to catch up while he did sets of 1. Great time of 38.53, scaled.
CDR A: 38:51, RXd, new PR. Last time 39.10 with 1.5 Pood and a 750m course.
Splits were as follows:
800m Run:3.47, 4.44, 4.37, 4.51, 4.37,
30 KB:1.42, 1.48, 1.54, 1.59, 1.47
30 PU:1.13, 1.24, 1.27, 1.32, 1.23
KB were 18-12, 18-12, 18-12, 16-9-5, 16-12-2
PU were 20-10, 15-10-5, 15-10-5, 12-8-10, 18-7-5.
While LT A maybe right that I was dogging the run, it sure as heck didn't
feel like it. If there had not been so many PU, I am sure y'all would have
beaten me today. I was lucky to hang on in the end. All in all a great
effort all around. I was really impressed the whole way. I am sure glad we
had the whole team for such a difficult WOD.
Well done there Varsity... and LTC :-)

KB not bad. 15+8+7 most rounds. Good squat & chest up.
PU terrible. Right arm grip terrible. Only 3-5 at a time later rounds.

Scaled to bike due to injured ankle. Also, 20 reps seemed like good scaling for me; anyone who did all the pull-ups must seriously have meathooks for hands!

WOD: Eva 1:21:20 Nice
800 Meter Runs: did 1000m runs (crawls) POSE'd the runs with my 5 Vibram 5 Fingers.
2 Pood KB Swings: Used a 70lb dumbell held it by the end. I broke these into 3 sets of 10 on all rounds, that was smart on my part. :-)
30 Pull Ups: kipped em all and broke them into 3 sets of 10 on the first three rounds and then 8-8-8-6 on rounds 4 and 5.
It rained the entire time and by the third round I did not even notice....
