Austin, please tell me whats up with the workout music! I mean they're classics, but not really the type to get me pumped for a WOD :D

Comment #9 - Posted by: Jenna at February 7, 2011 5:22 PM

What is a good sub for the parallette hand stand push-ups, and I don't have a twenty pound medicine ball will a bar bell be sufficient. Gotta love Globo Gyms.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Keith at February 7, 2011 5:29 PM

Carlos was a close friend of mine and my heart stopped when I opened this site today and saw his face. Carlos I miss you, you are a good friend and true warrior. Knowing him, he would have worn a weighted vest during this workout, just to up the intensity.

We miss you, watch over us..

That music was horrible! I might puke before the workout listening to that stuff.

Checked out the newest Seal-Fit video earlier this morning.
That got me motivated to go and bust my A$$ like never before.

I did a modified version of Murph, mostly because i had on a 26 lbs. loaded into my up-to-50lb MIR weighted vest. (mind you i only weight 135!)

I ended up running a mile, doing 50 pull ups, 100 push ups, and 150 squats, then running another mile to finish it off. i believe i did it in about 54 minutes.

M/5'5/135lbs

DO WORK!

Austin/CF Albany nice music! Classy.

thanks for putting RIP up there, but your political comment has no business being in there today. I can go on and on about pros and cons of legalization, but we'll save it for another day. today is about remembrance and honor for those that risk their lives... Not political agendas.

Comment #19 - Posted by: 12bravo at February 7, 2011 6:16 PM

Love that 80's yacht-rock vibe they got over there at Crossfit Albany! They should all rock mustaches and Hawaiian shirts to really tie it together.

Legalize what, drugs or criminals crossing or border? Keep your political comments to yourself considering this is in honor of a fallen LEO, its about him, not debating one's political side. I'm extremely involved in politics, but all the BS stops when when we honor the dead.
Looks like a good workout, might try it tomorrow.

Comment #21 - Posted by: Jonathan at February 7, 2011 6:22 PM

I don't have parallettes, so I believe I will use some big dumbbells instead - either that or just do medicine ball push-ups with my feet up on something high to target the shoulders as intended.

Instead of toes-through-rings, I will be doing toes-to-bars, which I have never done before so we'll see how my gym enjoys me swinging back and forth, ha!

Can't wait for the medicine ball cleans, they look like fun.

3, 2, 1 - GO!

For those without parallettes - I normally use those aerobic step things. I grab 4, stack two on each side and bob's your uncle! Not quite a true fix as it doesn't address the grip issue but it allows the depth of movement which is more important IMHO

"Ledesma"

Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
5 Parallette handstand push-ups
10 Toes through rings
20 pound Medicine ball cleans, 15 reps

Team,
A good effort out there today. Folks kept moving and kept working.
Nicely done. It was good to have the 2nd set of rings, so no bottle neck HSPU on parallettes were scaled to HSPU on the floor for Knellinger and Looney.
Anderson tried the step-up steps for a little greater depth, but didn't tap his head on the floor, but got a little deeper than normal.

Final results in rounds at 20 mins were:
Knellinger 6 + 5 hspu and 10 TTR so call it 6 and 2/3
Looney 6 + 5 hspu and 5 TTR, so call it 6 and 2/3
Anderson 9 + 2 HSPU.
Anderson splits were
1.24 at 58%
1.55 at 67%
2.09 at 69%..used 25 lbs ball for this round.
2.08 at 70%
2.18 at 70%
2.25 at 70%
2.25 at 71%
2.25 at 73%
2.27 at 73% at 19:41
HR avg of 70%
Cal = 364, HR delta = 168-148 = 20
HSPU were most often 3 then 2, this was the critical path for Anderson.
TTR straight through. MB cleans were straight or 12-3.

A Policeman's Prayer:

Another day, Lord to do my work,
unsure of what lies ahead.

It may hold the chance to help those in need,
and that would be my desire.

I pray that you will empower me to be a
peacemaker to all I come in contact with.

To the helpless, may I be a helper,
to the distressed, may I be a comfort.

To those who plan evil, may I be a deterrent,
and to those who have carried out their plans may
I be a sword of justice so they will no longer prey on the weak and hurting.

I humbly ask that you surround me with your angels, and a wall of fire for protection.

And if, in the course of your plan, I find
this day to be my last, the concern of my
life is that you would be the Father to my children and, the provider to my wife.

Amen.

RIP brave one, you served us well!

I have been flirting with Paleo for some time now and just have never taken to plunge to full Paleo due to lack of knowledge and the difficulty involved with implementing the diet. Is paleoplan.com worth it, at least to get the hang of the diet or is it just a marketing ploy?

I am mostly concerned with not having the time to do the work that the paleo diet requires, are there similar resources that give you tips on that kind of stuff?

thanks for the tips in advance.

To make a golf analogy, not enough clubs in the bag for this workout. No HSPU, to toes through rings, scaling would have been ridiculous. Instead, I worked back through the blog and found some stuff I wasn't able to do originally. Finally did a CrossFit Total (455, 205, 455 - 1115) in the morning, then came back in the evening and did the 3 x 800's (19:06). Pretty gassed, but satisfied. Should make tomorrow's 5k a joy!

M/ 37/ 132 lbs/ 5'-6"
As Rx: 6 complete rounds plus 10 feet through rings
(but I had to use a 10 lb med ball.. that's the heaviest we have in my gym.)

Good WOD, but I feel as though when I kip sometime, like in the rings here, I overextend and sometimes tweek my back a little. I think it's better to use more control and less "wild" kipping.
For me I almost always broke the HSPUs into 2,1,1,1 and the rest was unbroken.
I did Karen (150 wallballs for time) last night, so I felt the cleans a bit in my legs, but since I was only using 10 lbs, I had to drop WAY down because the ball is so small, but it wasn't too heavy at all, so I tried to concentrate on really good form and not breaking at all.
After this WOD I was thinking why don't we do more parallette HSPUs. Since we're always pushing for Full Range Of Motion, this would be truer in general and build more strength. The paralettes that I used were about 4-5 inches off the ground, not sure what Rx is supposed to be. I had my head hit the ground each rep for sure. I spread my legs apart and that really helped in allowing me to be more balanced and to try to explode up more.

RIP Ledesma

3 sets plus 5 HSPU

For the first time I did the HSPU facing away from the wall on the mounts...my depth sucked on most but I was just happy not to fall and break my neck...subbed toes to bar for lack of rings...only a couple times did my toes touch the bar but that's only the 2nd time I can think of that I've done that...the cleans with the ball were the only one I did without a break

Nice workout...I really like doing different stuff like that

Comment #214 - Posted by: EJ at February 9, 2011 2:07 PM

7 rounds + 2 HSPUs (3" deep HSPU).

For me, the hardest were definitely the HSPUs. The additional 3 inches of depth made me feel like I was just starting out with HSPUs again. First round of HSPUs unbroken, afterwards got the first 2 or 3, then a lot of singles and some failures too. Toes through rings were relatively easy after I figured out how to kip them. Medball cleans got the heart rate up, but were not a problem.
