I want to be the 1st to say this is a great pic!

And I'm glad to see a Rogue Europe, seems like the logical step.

Strong is beautiful.
CrossFit is redefining beauty for women and men. Good on them.
Women can be proud of being strong. Gone are the days of being as skinny as you can be regardless of the health risks. Here's to redefining what is beautiful!

When Shakespeare says in the sonnet you feature, "Haply I think on thee..' and then his 'state' . . . 'Sings hymns at Heaven's gate,' I'd bet he was thinking of the girl in the picture.

Well done, lads.

I was originally against what I viewed as the shameless Eugenics displayed on the main site, I kinda changed my view.

We really are just immature animals driven by primal sexual desire. (Ref: Darwin On the Origion Of Species, Dawkins Selfish Gene, the journal article on finding fitness a sexually desirable trait ect. ect. ect.)

So I revised my opinion, with this in mind, who cares if you continue to post pictures of Insanely Hot Women, and absolutely ripped guys.

The reasons for this are several. Some are:

A. Other fitness rag mags are accused of putting up "impossibly perfect individuals" Although many of the people on the main site are more beautiful then I could ever be, none the less if CrossFit and the Zone/Paleo prescription is followed then the body composition of these hotties is COMPLETELY ATTAINABLE. With hard work and self discipline we could all look like that.

B. Sex is not only natural, its essential. Hot bodies are about Sex.

I realize that this site is American and there are some serious religious hangups about sex in your nation tied to religion. There is also the concern voiced by many that children view this site. Lets get past this fear of the human body, to help I will say this a few more times, Sex, Sex, Sex,Sex. Let not forget the word, lets not forget to do it and how to do it, lets not take it to seriously and lets have some fun.

One of the reasons we do CrossFit as young guys, whom I am, is to become more sexually attractive (on a strictly appearance level to match my awesome personality.) Not to mention our applying the 10 general characteristics of fitness to the bedroom.

So if this is about the link between Sex and Fitness, Good.

I'm new to CrossFit. I do back and bi's on Monday, chest and tri's on Tue, Shoulders and abs on Wed, Legs on Thursday, and CrossFit on Friday.

I eat very well, high fat, high protein, whole wheat everything. I'm not getting any bigger and my arms are still small. Any thoughts?

Yes CF can make your body incredible.
But pics like this are as played out as pics of ripped hands, and shirts with "clever" uses of the word "snatch".

Sorry to break the streak....but I find this shameful. There is plenty of pressure put on young women in our society to look a certain way.

I thought CF was about how you FEEL...not how you look.

Comment #26 - Posted by: Jose Carnish at January 29, 2011 5:48 PM

I'm suprised you have that link on your site. I clicked through all the female pictures twice and I'm a bit disappointed you took me there. I'm going back now to click through it one more time, you know, to make sure I'm still disappointed.

#19 stop eating the whole grain. keep it up with the high fats and proteins. remember though, everyones body is different. you might have to wait longer than other people to get the bulk you want. size doesn't matter. in the end be healthy, be strong.

#27 when you do crossfit long enough, you will ALWAYS look good and feel great at the same time.

Comment #30 - Posted by: chazkez at January 29, 2011 5:56 PM

Fantastic pic for all sorts of reasons! The other day I strained my bicep, of all muscles working my back lever (DOH!), but this picture just made me feel a lil better!

Comment #31 - Posted by: Steven M. Platek at January 29, 2011 5:57 PM

I agree with #29. This is very unprofessional especially since CF affiliates with minors, promoting CrossFit Kids. Does anyone else see this?

#30 WGM, I agree with you that she's beautiful and is a great athlete but the photographers pics of nake women should not be posted on the CF site.

Comment #32 - Posted by: Person at January 29, 2011 5:57 PM

Comment #34 - Posted by: PVB at January 29, 2011 6:00 PM

#39, do you think that the photographers nude pics (directly to the left is CF kids, btw) cool at all? Or are you just psyched that a half naked chick is on the blog again?

I'm not dissing the pic on the blog. It's whatever since you can't see anything. She's beautiful. But look at the link that says T'challa Hawk.

Not cool, dude...

Comment #35 - Posted by: Person at January 29, 2011 6:04 PM

#19 Kenny....Rod is actually mistaken on that one. Whole wheat will make you fat, and has absolutely zero nutritional value anyway, so I'd just ditch it. If you don't believe me go check out Mark Sisson's website. Keep eating the fat!

Clifford @ #42: You're mistaken. I eat the skin off of my fried chicken and throw away the rest, eat the marble fat off my steaks and feed the rest to my dog, and ice cream each night. I'm fat as hell.

Comment #40 - Posted by: Rod at January 29, 2011 6:11 PM

#19 Kenny, keep doing what you're doing....except stop what you are doing Monday through Thursday, follow the Crossfit main site everyday, get a Crossfit Journal subscription and read everything you can about nutrition, and let you body decide what you size and proportions should be. If you asked me if I would rather be 6' 225# and built like Charles Atlas but weak as a 12 year old girl or 6' 190# and deadlift 500#, I'd take the latter. It's not about size. It's about strength...

Comment #41 - Posted by: John at January 29, 2011 6:12 PM

As they say in the beer commercial, "Here we go!"

Been off a almost two weeks due to work and lack of gym. Can't wait to get back Monday. Probably going to double up for good measure. 3-2-1-GO!!!

Comment #42 - Posted by: Pat Overton at January 29, 2011 6:14 PM

#19 keep the fat up. especially unsaturated fat. the main part of your intake should be fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts. throw some animal protein in there if you want but not necessary. if you must eat grains try to keep it to gluten free/wheat free steel cut rolled oats and brown rice. DON'T eat pasta or bread. start doing crossfit full time and cut out the other crap. if you're still having strength and size problems with your arms start doing ring dips and ring rows. make sure you're doing full ROM. on the dips the more forward you lean the more chest, the more straight up the more triceps. on the ring rows, the more you lay back and get parallel with the floor the harder they get.

Comment #43 - Posted by: Dan B at January 29, 2011 6:17 PM

All the pictures of the women just motivate all the women I show. It's not like these women in the pictures are super skinny, but they aren't fat. They are in shape and inspire confidence! this is what CF does to people. It inspires!

Comment #47 - Posted by: Esther at January 29, 2011 6:32 PM

Would it be possible to just have a separate website to showcase sexy CrossFitters' bodies? Posting pictures like this one doesn't seem like a smart marketing move. It's just too easy to interpret as objectifying.

I ran XC and track in college; have been a professional mountain bike racer for the past 14 years. Started dabbling in CF/Zone diet about two years ago when my second kid was about a year old. Only started following the WOD the first of September this year. I'm nearing my 41st birthday and in the best condition of my life. Just ran a PR for a half marathon, averaged just under 7:25 pace.

I love these pictures of strong, healthy women. I can only speak for myself, but when you feel healthy and strong, there's nothing better.

Thanks CrossFit! Keep up the good work and keep posting pictures of strong, healthy women!

Comment #51 - Posted by: Heather Szabo at January 29, 2011 6:36 PM

@ #19 Kenny, what John (#48) said. Doing CrossFit 1 day a week with traditional bodybuilding the other days is not doing CrossFit. Pick one and do it. Big and un-functional or strong and functional.

Comment #52 - Posted by: Steve M/34/6'3/190 at January 29, 2011 6:38 PM

@19 kenny - it's all about calories in/calories out. not gonna gain weight or build muscle if you're body doesn't have the energy to do it.

..you won't get "big" by following the crossfit site. anyone on here who just blatantly tells you to throw away your current workout routine is uneducated and thinks crossfit is the end all be all of working out.

you're muscluar conditioning will go up by doing crossfit, but you're not working the proper "beach muscles" that people usually work out to look good.

if you're trying to look fit, then you're workout is great, but you can't keep doing the same exact stuff the entire time. switch between barbells and dumbells and whatever machines you have available. focus on a full range of motion when doing the exercises. ie. when you do bench, go all the way down to your chest and then extend your arms.

there's a ton more to know about working out. crossfit isn't the best workout routine to get huge muscles. it's a good supplement to a lifting routine to change things up, though.

Comment #53 - Posted by: Dan Lav at January 29, 2011 6:38 PM

Alright i have read these silly posts about "nudity" on thise website for far too long you people honestly need to shut up. Television shows just as much "nudity" as this website. With skin cream commercials using the naked body of a model rubbing her skin in a sensual way to market their product. That is just a drop in the bucket to what your children are exposed to. So again Shut up. CrossFit puts these post up because it shows true life CrossFit bodies in their beauty. Not some Juiced up Fitness Model on the cover of some muscle mag. These are realy people showing true results. So keep it up guys awesome pic, the human body is a the most beautiful machine there is!

Been doing crossfit for one year now and absolutely love. However I will stop refering my friends if I continue to see soft core porn on the main site. I really didn't think that this is what crossfit was about. It's fine to show off the beautiful women who do crossfit. Just do it in a respectful manner, let them keep their clothes on.

The kind of wakanda took this picture!.....On second thought, i guess i am the only one who gets it.haha, o well back to Wod'ing i go...

Comment #59 - Posted by: Charles abouzied at January 29, 2011 7:00 PM

@19 Kenny, #24 had it right. I mean some hardcore CrossFitters will tell you that eating paleo and following the mainsite will make you "feel" better and look "fit" but what's the point of "feeling good" if you have small arms. I would suggest getting some "mass builder" from GNC and then integrating some bicep specific lifts AT LEAST 4 times per week. Some good ideas are preacher curls, isolated dumbbell curls and forearm curls (you gotta work the forearms too and the forearm curl is an essential/functional movement) give it a shot and see if that helps!

Last one was followed up by guys butt-cracks... And please let us not forget the one that started it all... We should all remember the infamous Kettlebell bikini snow one arm over head squat pic followed by the dude in an identical picture. Ah yes. I still laugh over that one. Lighten up "trolls", it's way more deep than the pics. Those in the community for a long time "get it".

Amazing Picture glad that the adults chose to post today instead of all the whiners. So sick of the I referred so and so here ir my kids have access to my PC and this is porn blah blah blah... This is not porn I've stopped my 12yr old from watching MUCH worse on mtv. I will let her come on the crossfit site any day and browse around as much as her heart desires. I hope she sees strong beautiful women with self confidence and has something to aspire to. Not some Jersey Shore garbage or what ever the heck else she watches on tv. With regards to the comment to crossfit kids grow up you would be lucky that your daughter/son desires to be a strong, self confident, self aware adult.

Great rest day article today. It is long, so if you cannot spend the time to read the entire thing I call your attention in particular to figure 2. Study it carefully and deeply ponder its two possible implications for yourself and those you disagree with BEFORE engaging in heated arguments on this site. Thanks for the free workouts and education, Crossfit.

I get it. You like controversy. You like showing beautiful human bodies. That's fine. It's your site, you can post whatever you wish.

However, would it be too much to ask for some common courtesy in indicating that a site to which you've linked contains pornography?

Comment #68 - Posted by: Concerned at January 29, 2011 7:57 PM

"I will stop referring people to your website, blah blah blah, porn, blah blah blah...". Do us all a favor and do exactly what you say. We're all tired of your complaining. I'm sure you were much happier watching Maury Povich while getting your "workout" in on the elliptical anyway. Hey Dustin #62, can you share your yoga ball and shake weight with all the other complainers?

I'm torn. The athlete pictured has a phenomenal body. I want it. I want to work (and I do) to get it. I'm feeling like her shoulders aren't active enough in this pic. Just sayin'! Again, beautiful photograph and it's inspiring.

Anyway, I do agree that linking to a site that could get people in trouble at work (some are allowed to surf the net during breaks/lunches) and there is straight up nudity on the T'challa site. Let's just perhaps consider adding that whole globally understood acronym NSFW (not safe for work) to links that could be sketchy.

Comment #76 - Posted by: Torn at January 29, 2011 8:24 PM

Of course this is not porn....Save us from the righteous.

In the last twenty days we have pictures of: girls with guns, boys with guns, more boys with guns, boy soldiers, a couple of crossfit kumbayah shots, three workout shots (my favourites of the bunch - the Danes and the tire-jumpers, and the berserker deadlifters - don't you wish you'd used the time you spent working on the two-man deadlift working on the one-man jump shot, or the one-man opposite field double....anyway....?), horsies, a stud doing pushups, somthing tender and strange (hopefully safe) between Stuart and Katie, the fun buns, a young stud doing a clean/snatch, and the art buns.

Guns, workouts, studs and buns seem pretty even.

A question: has there been a female hero wod (not looking for a quota, but curious)?

I know we saw Dave L without his shirt (but with his beard, and Heather B) in the overhead tutorial (a kind of eroticizeed Stonewall-Jackson-Tarzan of the Shenandoah Face-Book Jungle thing going on there...my impossible aspiration), but perhaps it might be nice to see a still of a firebreather's engines.

I know the Ms. would dig it (are you kidding, of course she didn't take my name....and I didn't offer it either).

Comment #77 - Posted by: Prolix at January 29, 2011 8:29 PM

Cool stuff with the powerlifting meet and the strongman comp.

Its interesting with the CrossFitters powerlifting that there is no issue regarding depth. They all looked like really deep squats.

Can this standard be absorbed by the powerlifting community? I'm still impressed by how much powerlifters lift, it just seems a lot of the squats now adays just break parallel (still within the rules) but not as rock solid deep as the guys from the 70's/80's and early 90's.

Either way, it seemed like a great outing.

Comment #79 - Posted by: travis at January 29, 2011 8:35 PM

Bravo! Keep em coming! After reading some posts,I'm convinced that there are two types of Crossfitters. There are those who accept and embrace that looks are an important part of why we do this, and there are those who can't come to grips with it just because they like being the small fraction who HAS to disagree.

Comment #80 - Posted by: FFBryan at January 29, 2011 8:39 PM

@ #19 Kenny,

Eat high protein, high fat, relatively low carb: meath, fruit, veg, nuts, seeds, berries. Don't eat pasta, bread, cereal, oaks, rice, corn (pretty much anything that is considered a grain, even whole grain is BAD for you). Grains produce insulin, the storage hormone, and you start storing fat. @24, Rob is completely wrong when he said fat makes you fat.

As for getting "big" - if you do crossfit, eat right, and rest your body will come into its own and you'll be a good size - meaning that you want be HUGE, but you'll look fit and be fit (unlike bodybuilders). If you're trying to be a meathead, bodybuilder then crossfit really isn't for you!

For those saying "its just a back" etc.

The link provided to the T'challa Hawk site is a link to a lot of full nudity photos of body building women.

So there are really two separate issues.
1) the image posted on the main site.
2) the "not safe for work" T'challa Hawk link posted on the main site.

I'm sure a lot of people commenting above haven't clicked the T'challa Hawk link.

Hopefully, the conversation can stay civil. There is no need to insult those with a different opinion.

Why do people have comments that are thought out, and relativity well articulated? Good question Carmichael. . . good question.

I forgot that anything worth saying is worth saying in short grunts and moans. I believe most of the great works of our time were written as such.

Comment #97 - Posted by: Cameron at January 29, 2011 10:54 PM

@#18 Kenny--I disagree on a couple points that #60 Sean made. Both relating to his statement that you should do biceps exercises at least 4 times/wk. For one, your muscles grow during the recovery phase. If you're working your biceps 4x/wk, they aren't getting enough time to recover. I assume you already know this b/c you're only working each body part once or twice/ wk. Second, the triceps make up the majority of the upper arms, so you should be focussing on building your triceps more than biceps.
Hope that helps.

some of y'all are too sensitive...get over it folks. this is what a human body looks like.

also, as a classical trumpet player, I have to say I am very pleased about the endorsement CF gives to classical music. It is nice to know there are people outside of the incestuous classically trained community of musicians that appreciate this kind of art.

Well you may rant and rave about moralism etc etc but it's a fact that the todays pic of this site are becoming more and more sexistic, a development I was not expecting. I love the coaching and I'm a true believer in the cf philosophy, and I'm faithful that this community can prevail and evolve without (half-)nude chicks.

The pic is great, hands down to that. However, although I, like most people enjoy watching beautiful bodies and sex, I'm capable of getting it myself and do not want it on my no. 1 exercise website, neither in my e-mail, my morning newspaper and so on. I think the cf spirit sells itself, without cheap tricks.

A final Newbie Rest Day post.

My, my, my...THIS is fun, eh? Rest assured that CFHQ does, indeed, think that this is fun. Every 4th day, 12 months per year comes a Rest Day. A little Crossfit, a little literature, a little intellectual tidbit, a little "art"...

Ya never know EXACTLY what's coming, but seriously, even after just one month you should never be surprised.

Me? I pick and choose. During the week I rarely have enough time to devote to Rest Day (ironic, huh?), so I usually just drop in, take a quick peek, and move on. Weekend Rest Days can be different--I'm alone with the pet menagerie at the moment, Mrs. Bingo away at a horse show--but not necessarily.

This morning for instance I took a quick look at the photo, did not click on the link for lack of interest, and DID watch all three videos; I had the time, and the Crossfitness interested me. I'd rather catch up on the week's newspapers, so the article is not likely to get read. I'm a blues guy...Ravel is not a go-to for me. I don't know why, because I usually don't, but I clicked on the sonnet today and am very glad I did. It's quite lovely, a man whose covetous nature is quelled by the knowledge that his love is enough, a man more content because of that love. A love letter that made me smile.

You see, literally everything here on the Crossfit Main Page is essentially 'you vs. you', even Rest Day. It's universally scaleable, just like the WOD on the other 3 days. You pick and you choose from that which is offered, though just like the WOD you have no say in that which is to be offered. Every 4th day.

Tomorrow is January 31st and I will offer one last Newbie post for 2011. There is nothing magical about these posts, nothing extraordinary about the author. They tend to dampen the repetitive questioning of the initiative-challenged; anyone wishing to take up the mantel in the months to come is therefore most welcomed. I do enjoy writing them, and I hope that they have been helpful.

Musings to come...

Whats funny is most of the people that are pro-nude pictures probably have nothing more invested in CrossFit than their board shorts, innov8, compression pants and primal packs. We,who have made this our lives for years, and helped CrossFit grow have the right to be upset. Its childish behavior. We want to be a serious accredited program, and then we do this. Besides my seven year old could probably pick up that tire, I'm not impressed. May be I'll send in a picture of her doing the same thing with her shirt off, have fun posting that. Its only Art and beauty. Also I was wondering after Reebok launches their new line of CrossFit Gear will they be selling it in WalMart next to the awesome Gold's Gym equipment?

It's no suprise that she's naked. She can't afford clothes. I mean, look at her house?! She's lucky she can afford the tire. I bet she stole it. My wife and I use pics like this as motivation. My kids couldn't care less. They probably think that she's homless. Keep it up CF.

Comment #122 - Posted by: Kathy at January 30, 2011 6:36 AM

Sunday musings (feel free to scale)...

1) Secretariat. 31 lengths. Just saying.

2) Pro. The advent of the sponsored athlete is nigh. Mikko and the Rogue athletes. Jon Gilson's Again Faster collection. Graeham picked up by Reebok. Did Coach foresee this? Did anyone? No idea.

It bears a little examination, though, to try to put it in perspective. Crossfit seems, to me at least, to have much more in common as a sporting endeavor with Track and Field, Skiing and Snowboarding of all sorts, and other individual sports such as golf and tennis. Team events like the Tahoe Throwdown, indeed the teaming of anything, seem to be more like those relatively rare times when athletes in individual sports assemble under some flag or another for an event that seeks to create a team ethos in an otherwise team-averse universe. Think Ryder Cup golf much more than think Olympics, for example.

My bet? The Track and Field analogy is closest, and we will see sponsorship activity more akin to that then, say, snowboarding; there's just less STUFF to purchase, or need to purchase, to Crossfit. $22 for a pair of Chuck Taylor seconds, some socks and you're good to go.

Think just for a minute what Crossfit has done for so many folks, business-wise, that is. 3000 gym owners. A few dozen sponsored athletes, sure to be a few hundred this time next year. Not one but TWO Crossfit-dedicated equipment companies, as well as non-CF companies who have seen an explosion in their sales due to their discovery by Crossfitters (Lulu Lemon, Innov8, Vibram). An entire business ecosystem has arisen in <2 years.

Did Coach foresee that? Did anyone?

3) Form/Function. I look good. I mean reeeaaaalllly good. I'm going on a beach vacation in a week or so, and I'm feeling just fine about taking my shirt off at the pool.

'Cause I look GOOD.

Here's the funny thing about that...I've made only the most cursory effort to look good. You see, for 5+ years I've been pursuing not so much form as function. The metric I have pursued, the measurements I've taken and the outcomes I've sought have all been performance related. What's my "Fran" time? PR is Front Squat? Stuff like that. As a matter of fact, just for fun I'm going to go back to 2006 and do a few months of 2006 Main Page CF WOD's to compare.

The point here is that form follows function with few exceptions. Want world-class marathon or triathalon times? You aren't going to look like Mikko. Aiming for a podium in a power lifting competition? Likely the same thing. Chasing General Physical Preparedness, WCABTMD? Well now, YOU might look a little more like Mikko.

Let's not get carried away, though. I look NOTHING like Mikko, and you shouldn't expect any shirtless bingo pics on the Main Page (with or without a tire, PU bar, or KB), but the fact remains that form follows function, and I look good.

Bet you do, too.

4) Community. Made any friends recently? I have. Seems a week doesn't go by in which I don't "meet" someone new who could turn out to be a new friend. How? I'm a Crossfitter. I talk to people who Crossfit.

There's an essential goodness that permeates the Crossfit community, whether it be here on Crossfit.com, Facebook, or in the Affiliate gyms. By and large we assume goodwill on the part of other Crossfitters (and are always taken aback when it isn't there). The vibe is positive. Optimistic. There's an enthusiasm about turning the next corner because what's been around all of the previous corners has been pretty cool. It's amazing when you think about how consistently this has been the case.

I'm a community kinda guy. Love this place, and love most everything about it. Communities are like gardens, though--they need care and feeding. We must tend to our community in ways big and small, as we would tend to a neighbors garden while tending to our own. We may choose to tend to Crossfit itself, or not, but we should always and ever choose to tend to the community that has grown up around Crossfit.

It's a fertile garden, one from which friendship blooms, regularly and routinely, in ways as mysterious as they are wonderful.

I'll see you next week...

If the photo for today is truly a continuation of the theme of appreciating fit, sexy bodies (and not about objectifying women), I challenge Crossfit HQ to post buttock-baring photos of _men_ for a change. That's right - surely some gay Crossfitters would appreciate seeing Orlando, Miko, and others in a revealing pair of skivvies. Tit for tat!

#118 honest abe get off of your high horse about those liking the photo not being around long enough, or not growing the community that's a sham. Your basically negating there position without knowing a thing about those who have posted. I've been in the community for quite a long time crossfitting for 6 years. I own an affiliate I try to grow the community every day. So I hope under your standards my opinion would count. I've pooled all the other affiliate owner who also grow the community in my area talked with my wife at length out of curiosity none of us care about what ever photos the main page post. There's links on our site as well as others to the main page. So your whole argument about those who grow the community actually care about the photo vs those who don't is wrong. It's all a matter of personal view and has nothing to do with how long you've been a part of the community or to what extent. It's your right not to like it and post the reasons you don't like it. I for one won't call you a whiner or have anything derogatory to say as were all entitled to our own opinion. It's crossfit's site it's there business they can put what ever they like. On my site I'll post what ever the hell I want if I loose business from it then it's my own fault.

Where can I find more pictures like this?

Comment #136 - Posted by: Eric at January 30, 2011 9:22 AM

Last time I checked the Crossfit moto is "Forging Elite Fitness" however nowhere in the Crossfit definition of fitness do I see:

1) A good looking body
2) The need to show of that body
3) The desire to insult and cut down fellow fitness enthusiasts for their views

Yet this is what I see everyday. I started doing Crossfit because I enjoyed the humble attitudes of even the most elite athletes. They did Crossfit so that they could be better at their jobs and to be able to live their lives without fitness as a hold back.

Now, it seems, that Crossfit is more about looking good and less about being good. Looking good is a natural extension of what we do, not the ultimate goal.

Pictures like the one today and in the past no doubt show the results of what Crossfit can do for people and these girls are certainly beautiful. However, we should return to posting pictures that illustrate the goals of Crossfit: pictures showing functional use of the skills we have learned, pictures of the community coming together for certs and other group activities, and honoring those who have fallen.

For those of you who are going to pull the free site card, understand this:

If you are going to ask someone to follow you on an endeavor (even if it is free) as the Crossfit founders and coaches have asked all of us to do, then you must be willing to accept feedback. There is no requirement for the Crossfit owners to do anything we ask, but as leaders I would expect them to at least be in tune with what the community feels and has to say. You can view this as constructive criticism as opposed to complaining because obviously I am still here and will continue to be regardless of the pictures that are posted because I believe in what Crossfit stands for and does for people.

Comment #141 - Posted by: Big Al at January 30, 2011 9:43 AM

a few bits on eating and crossfit. The zone/paleo prescription is not a holy document that spouts only truths. I'm talking about the people saying whole grains are bad for you because they elicit an insulin response. Your body needs an insulin response to meals. If you didn't have insulin you would have something we call type 1 diabetes. In fact, its usually a good idea to take advantage of this repsonse post-workout. That is why a lot of people leave out fat in a post-workout meal, the insulin response is brisker allowing for a quicker delivery of carbohydrate to muscles.

Even the most elite crossfitters are NOT 100% paleo in the truest sense of the word. I'm pretty sure our ancestors didn't have a packet of progenex too quaff after a hard bout of exercise. Oils weren't around either. And most seeds are not worth scavenging to get enough for a meal.

Yes you should get most of your carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables. But just because we didn't start eating grains until 10,000 years ago doesn't mean they are necessarily bad for us. Yes people have gluten allergies and autoimmune reactions to gluten, but egg allergies are just about as common. We didn't start using heart and lung machines until less than 50 years ago, that doesn't mean our bodies aren't able to adapt and respond to it. The human body ADAPTS to changes in its environment, trying to go completely paleo is trying to turn back the clock.

Finally, the best prescription to lose weight and look better is take in less calories than you expend. Zone works so well for those who follow it because it only allows you to eat so much. Just like any other "diet" if you can actually follow its restrictions, you lose weight because it only allows you to take in so many calories each day.

My borther-in-law and I made up a while he was in town for Christmas. We did our own "12 Days of X-Mas". While it is not an original concept, we put in our choice of exercises based on what we had to work with in my garage:

"12 Days of X-Mas"
1st Day- Run 200m
2nd- 65lb Thrusters
3rd- 65lb Power Cleans
4th- Pullups
5th- Pushups
6th- Situps
7th- Tuck Jumps
8th- 1 pood KB Swings
9th- Parrallette Jumps
10th- Burpees
11th- 65lb SDLHP
12th- 65lb Push Press

*Do 1st day, then do 2nd then 1st, then do 3rd 2nd and 1st, etc- like 12 Day of christmas song...

12/22/10 = 22:54
Today (since it was just me) did 95lbs for all 65lb exercises. Time = 23:34. To me, that's a better time.

It was about 63*F outside and sunny, so I was able to do all of the exercises in my front yard (except for pullups, of course). What a great day for an outdoor workout!

I for one love the pictures of the "Crossfit" bodies whether those be beautiful butts, ripped abs, intensely focused or adventurously posed. That is Crossfit - Constantly Varied.
The pic today is fine, another butt worked hard on by the owner. A Crossfit butt and one that we should all celebrate - or not based on your own personal beliefs.

What is starting to get to me is credibility. As the community grows HQ needs to start monitoring the "negative effect" a bit better and links like "T'challa Hawk" being highlighted on the main site along with todays picture are not good. Anyway you look at that link it is associated with Porn. Porn is OK, don't get me wrong - to each is own and there are many places to seek out your own individual porn fixes but this is CROSSFIT, not a porn site and there is no place for that link on the site.

Tony - Nip this in the "Budd". It has gone on long enough. Keep the house clean.

I'm saddened by the lack of appreciation for the human form. The great masters in art from the Greeks to the Romans and beyond honored the human body.

I give you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_(Michelangelo)
Is that pornography?

How about all of these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sculpture

The only difference? The current artist "T'challa Hawk" used photo instead of marble and clay.

I propose that "pornography" is in the viewer, not the material. You see in these pictures and statues what is inside you. So the opinion of the material is a reflection of the viewer, not the subject.

That said, I'm always impressed by a fine tuned human physique. And I would hope that anyone else, pursuing an improved form themselves, would take the time to appreciate that.

And there's no nudity on the front page, only through the link. Maybe, just maybe the link should have been labeled as "NSFW". But I don't find the pictures there pornographic, I see them as a tribute, or a honest appreciation for the people in the pictures. Any other view is a darker side of the viewers psyche with a trumpeted up outrage so they can present themselves as "holier than thou" on Sunday with their pastel colored friends.

If a few pictures of women that have invested years of work in themselves offend, then maybe you should re-calibrate your sensitivity meter.

Sometimes, in freedom of speech, there's also freedom to not pay attention.

Wow, now, I don't mean workout of the week either. But fellas and Gals, the masters women look like that, seriously. So, come on over to www.masterwod.com or CF Masters on Facebook and check us out. And, to the woman who said her boy friend has not seen that much of her body yet. Well, girl, I hope the guy has prospects for that, will be as over joyed to see it as the gang here is to see this woman, and takes the time all you ladies deserve, especially when you look like this person. Because I know a CrossFit master would. Celebrate life people. You are dead a long time.

I just think the photo is cheesy.
GRRRR look at me in my white see-through panties with a full on wedgie and tramp stamp as I lift this tire over my head in front of an abandoned wherehouse!!!!
Please. I want to be inspired and motivated when I am on the site! More nicole Carrol and eva t... or just anyone powering through a WOD.
I want to get amped up!

Comment #157 - Posted by: m at January 30, 2011 12:23 PM

The fact is that there is just no need for pictures like this. Of course I like seeing attractive girls in pictures but I recommend this site to a lot of people and use it as the basis for my unit's PT program. It's embarrassing and completely unprofessional because it is totally unnecessary. Why the change? Simply to be controversial? Come on, that's an MTV attitude and a pretty desperate attempt to generate hype and discussion. How am I supposed to access this site from a government computer for professional purposes when there are pics and links like this. At least include a NSFW warning. If you stop using pictures like this, nothing will change and no one will suffer. If you keep using pictures like this, you are threatening to alienate some of your most loyal followers. There's just no good reason. Controversy for controversy's sake is just pointless.

As someone with only three months exposure to the world of CrossFit (and loving every bit of it) I have been surprised by the sudden inclusion of a few semi-nude pictures on main site. If this comment could reach the ears of anyone who has the power to change this trend, I strongly caution HQ, you are running a big risk!

CrossFit is a community-based endeavour. It involves people of all walks of life, who greatly from one another in terms of personal values and interests. While many CrossFitters will welcome these images, applauding them as artistic and tasteful, many others (including myself) are worried about where this trend could lead to. You should be able to see from the comments that have followed these pictures, many people are not impressed. Is it really worth it?

My advice to HQ: stay away from politics, sex, religion...and semi-nude pictures!

Made up the clean workout: 3 reps at 7 rounds
full squat cleans
65# for several warm up rounds:
then eased into the weight with gradual increases

I was unable to find a previous clean over 105.
So this would be a pr.
Not real comfortable with the movement but have greatly improved.

After cleans ran one mile on treadmill, easy pace at 8 minutes.

I love CrossFit. I love the human body. But these kinds of pictures on this site make me uncomfortable. This woman is beautiful. But these kinds of things should not be here. Please don't get carried away with glorifying these photos. Look at these elsewhere.

When you visit CrossFit.com, stick to fitness.

Comment #164 - Posted by: Greg at January 30, 2011 2:02 PM

She's in panties, in the desert. Holding a tire over her head. Which then makes it "Crossfit".

The Beach pic was funny. But the butts and this pic are just saying "We dare you to have a problem".

Comment #165 - Posted by: Ryan at January 30, 2011 2:05 PM

This kind of pic would be posted the day that I give my mother & her friends the crossfit.com address, after they were so impressed with my results.... Strong is beautiful, but classy would also be nice. A sports bra & atheltic shorts wouldn't cover muscle. Convincing my mother that crossfit is for all is going to be a bit more difficult now.

Soft core porn? Get a grip! The images are not degrading or overtly sexual.

I love CrossFit. . .it is my life and I am proud to be a part of this amazing family and walk amongst such incredible people. Thank you to all of those who have inspired me and motivated me to push through some of my toughest moments, life is amazing journey. For me this picture represents freedom, strength, and beauty. I am ever so humbled and thankful for what God has given me. . .this life, my three beautiful daughters, family, friends, faith, and love.

The girl is impressive - no doubt. But I don't want to see that on my laptop. I'm glad others in comments warned about the porn link, not clicking there.

HQ, I'm disappointed. I'm more and more uneasy about the direction you're headed in. Great programming, great videos (apart from the 'F' word dropped repeatedly), great people involved. But grow up and drop the stuff that alienates me and many others.

Comment #170 - Posted by: JD at January 30, 2011 2:32 PM

Seriously, why do we have topless females in underwear on this site? Obviously a man is in charge of the content on here..Don't get me wrong, she looks amazing, and fit..but really..show some class.

Comment #171 - Posted by: Patty at January 30, 2011 2:32 PM

I have no problem with the picture. I do not find it offensive or suggestive.

I can understand the sentiment of more conservative/religious folks being upset about it, but the image itself seems to be more a showcase of good form and proportion than porn. We don't look at statues Venus or David, whom are both naked, and cry "I'm offended"!!

The image is artistic and not sexual. I believe it to be comparable to any other print media of human form.

PS. Don't flame me for this, I don't care about your religion, or what your pastor says, or what YOU want people to think. TY.

At the end of the day this is a free resource, created by the glassmans (and co.), at their own expense. There is plenty of affiliates who post great WODs which you can follow instead.

So if you dont like the free stuff CF is giving you, feel free to click the little X in the top right corner of the screen and the 'bad' pictures will go away.

Me, well I think I might just make this my desktop picture. Thank You CrossFit!!

Many women will workout for years and never have that leaness, even in their younger years, so i say WHATEVER! And Crossfit HQ can put whatever they friggin' like on their site, CAN NO ONE EVER SAY ANYTHING NICE ANYMORE? geez! Good going for the ones who can :D P.S. reality says: "What should I tell girls when I recommend them to Crossfit?

Hey ____, if you Crossfit, then you will look like her. Then you can post your half naked self up for everyone to marvel at!"

No, you don't have to say that when you recommend women to CrossFit. Tell them that they'll make gains in strength that they never thought was possible. Tell them they'll make new friends outside of work and other normal circles. Tell them along with a healthy diet, they'll look and FEEL better than they ever have before.

I'm a woman, and while there's no way in hell I'd ever post a picture of MYSELF like the one here, I'm not going to quit following CrossFit because of it...nor am I going to stop telling others how well the program works.

Comment #186 - Posted by: Tiny at January 30, 2011 3:56 PM

Well put #135. I was wrong to speculate that everyone pro picture had nothing invested in CrossFit. I guess thats the bottom line, who wins here. We all have helped CrossFit grow and there are many who do not like the way its going. I guess thats what happens when you invest in a business with a bunch of people you dont know. It began as a garage gym and its heading to a globogym. We will hold true to the CF I love and you should do the same. Maybe I will see you in target buying some Reebok CrossFit gear and we can grab a coffee.

Comment #187 - Posted by: Honest abe at January 30, 2011 3:57 PM

I would like to solidify my thoughts on how smoking hot crossfit women are. Those of you who like to complain about the the skin shown here quit your whining. I guarantee at 95% of the crossfit boxes out there most guys and girls show off close to that amount of skin anyway. And who hasn't seen a bare back on someone. If you can't handle it, there are plenty of other sites you can go to.

If you want crossfit to be taken serious, then act serious. It is now recognized by ANSI so take some responsibility and grow up. Leave the pics like this for the men's locker room where they belong. How many affiliates lost out on clients last time you posted a pic like this? All so HQ can make some kind of point by saying you can do what you want to do?

Grow up, with great power, comes great responsibility. I just do not feel it belongs on HQ mainpage when so many people are trying to hard to further crossfit in general. Why create un-needed hurdles for it by posting things some might find offensive?

Mrs. Long,
I do greatly admire the artistic quality of the picture, and your great body. Please do not take this as a personal attack.

Comment #194 - Posted by: Andrew at January 30, 2011 5:14 PM

Can we please stop with the shirtless girls doing workouts or posing. They look great but if I want to look at scantily clad women I would look into globo-gym websites. Where have the basic institutions of crossfit gone? Less marketing and more realistic fitness pics and inspirational stories...are we disrespecting our heroes? This might be marking the official decline of crossfit. The social bastardizing could be taking over faster than we think.

This is an artistic photo of a beautiful, strong woman. This pic should be an inspiration to all those women out there who are working their tails off to be both strong and feminine. Great work CFHQ, keep the WODs and the pics coming.

Comment #202 - Posted by: Tony at January 30, 2011 6:55 PM

Sorry, not a fan of the photo. Loved the pull up one. This one crossed the line. I loved seeing the beauty of the strength of women and seeing the differences in development in muscles of different body types from the pull up pic. But this one, not so much. Showing just her back would have been fine. In undies, really? who performs sports in their undies? Not trying to be all negative bc I have loved CF and what it has done for me. But this does bum me bc I thought CF was more than this.

Ok, so there is a somewhat athletic looking chick in lace underwear holding a really light tire over her head. What does this have to do with Forging Elite Fitness? This photo takes away from the complete professionalism represented by your CF trainers that travel the globe to teach the certs. They work hard to represent the brand well and the way of life they love. This photo goes against everything they represent.

Comment #208 - Posted by: bruce at January 31, 2011 3:31 AM

While I agree that this photo & link have no place on a fitness website, my true concern is that continued posting of these NSFW pics and links will lead to Crossfit.com being blocked for military and government users trying to access from work. I know that we regularly access the site at work while planning the next day's PT routine--several times recently I have opened the site only to have regretted doing so due to the questionable photos posted. We can talk about "sensies" or "whiners" but the fact is that neither this type of photo nor link have any place in the professional workplace. Since military and law enforcement personnel represent such a significant target audience for Crossfit, that would be extremely unfortunate.

Comment #209 - Posted by: jhb at January 31, 2011 5:13 AM

Crossfit is turning into every other site that has to display half naked women to try to boost attention to their site. Its sad really. Is she not as beautiful with clothes on? Is this what Crossfit about? A bunch of salivating men does not really help your strength, endurance, or anything else related to Crossfit.

Clearly HQ is doing what they can to stir the pot - there have been more "questionable" pics in the last six months than in the last three years combined.

Is she ridiculously hot (and fit)? Abso-freakin'-lutely.

Would a link to the Hawk website (with the freakishly large steroid-powered silicone-enhanced naked women) have been the grounds for a BAN from the CF forums only a couple years back? Absolutely.

HQ is taking CF a somewhat different direction and that's their prerogative but I think it would be nice for HQ to pen an open letter to the community on their new direction before the next snap of topless (or pantless) folks fractures the community further.

All that said, I'm geeked for the WOD. ;)

But I thought using sexuality to sell a fitness program was WAY below Crossfit's standard. In that light, it's insulting.

Comment #221 - Posted by: bdiggle at January 31, 2011 12:45 PM

I am still not appreciating the pics. I am a 20 year old male and I do love a hot woman as much as the next guy, but I still stand by the fact that these are unnecessary troubles that you apparently ask for. It is your site, you can do what you want HQ, but people have their lives invested in their box and the more you do this kind of thing, the more it affects them. Even more so than you because they don't own a huge new trendsetting/money-making tycoon of a business that gets them an insane amount of money.

You won't close down because a few people drop out, but they might have to.

I'm not even talking so much about the pic this time as much as I am the link to "Hawk"s site. That is a bit much. Go ahead and post your pictures if you feel that you have to, but come on, that link takes it even one step further.

Comment #226 - Posted by: Haven at January 31, 2011 4:19 PM

#210 your concerns are very valid
I work on an AF base and the mainsite was blocked for a whole week after the bare butt photo. See, there's this thing called a filter, and it automatically does a search of all sites hit on the network, looking for "inappropriate content" and blocks it. If a site gets blocked often enough, it's blocked permanently.

Do I personally have a problem with the pic? No. Lacking in taste for a fitness photo? Yes (lulu lemon shorts at least instead of panties). But would have no problem looking at at home. However. . .

So thanks, CFHQ, for basically not giving a crap about those of us military and leos who are under threat of never being able to get to the mainsite from work again. It's nice to know you care. Especially since you SAY you support us. Actions speak louder than words (or photos in this case).

Don't get me wrong great pic I have no problem with this in my home. However it created a lot of speculation and dought to day when this poped up. Coversations about appropriate and inappropriate were heated and drawn out. Unfortunetly due to the media in today's post We took 10 steps backwards which took years to gain.
Please relize that some of your athletes have to work within the confindes of the federal government.
Today I am deeply sadened and extremely frustrated at the oversights of HQ.

Separate from the "fringe" and the respect for CF will continue to grow. Shock Jock approach flies in the face of the science, does it not?

Again: Yet another pic calculated by CFHQ to “stick it to all the ungrateful whiners and haterz”. Meanwhile the posters who align with HQ’s sensiblities (and have nothing to lose) get to camp out in their comfort zone and posture as appreciative, enlightened Real CrossFitters – creating & then deriding the straw man presumption that those who object are all limp-wristed Puritan-types deathly afraid of some back skin and lace. Way to alienate some of your most upstanding community members, CFHQ. And for what? Just to show how subversive and edgy CF is?

Comment #232 - Posted by: bigTXbob at February 1, 2011 1:20 PM

hey folks - just got done reading through the posts - maybe the link to the photographer's site is to compare what a crossfit does for you verse bodybuilding - not sure if that is the intent - i do hear over and over from females that they don't want to get "big" muscles from lifting weights - well - here is a body built by crossfit side by side by a body built by bodybuilding showing the differences - if this was HQ's intent - we all missed it -

CF and great coaching helped me get my pre-baby body back after having two kids, 9# and 10#. My third pregnancy is my healthiest yet. I looked hot and felt hotter, and my husband loved it. That being said, I never felt compelled to take pictures like this.

Is she pretty? Yes. Why does she HAVE TO be in her underwear and topless? Why do we have to look at men's hairy butt cheeks?

Sorry, it is excessive. I can have a sense of humor about it once or twice, but now I can count on this website to post these kinds of pics.

Nudity does not necessarily equal beauty or confidence.

It's just plain crazy that people are comparing the photograph to porn. Have they ever seen porn? I mean like... REAL porn?

If you find the photo offensive, here's a piece of advice: never walk into an art museum. They have paintings from five hundred years ago by artists like Rubens, Michelangelo and Botticelli that will seriously assault your genteel morality. I'm talking full frontal - scandalous!

I'm amazed at how America is just a large nation of prudes, when in almost any other country, she would be facing you rather than turned away from you.

I can't imagine the "kids" you're trying to protect haven't seen far worse on the internet or in person.
