Great!! I've been waiting for this one!

Nice lift there puppy, but since when do we do presses seated? I think the dog whisperer is needed for some coaching with this little one...

Cute puppy on mainsite! =)

Comment #3 - Posted by: Grace at December 26, 2010 5:10 PM

Split Jerk will wait a little bit for me.... BULL has been tought for my body:P ! Hope that i'll recover soon:)

Comment #5 - Posted by: J-F/20/5'9/160 at December 26, 2010 5:19 PM

That dogs form is ridiculously horrible. How dare the mainsite show form like that for us to see, what do I tell my clients now? Not only that but that dog doesn't have a shirt on, I had all 7 of my young children looking at the computer when that picture came up. CrossFit, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

(I couldn't resist)

Comment #6 - Posted by: bull at December 26, 2010 5:37 PM

Nice Bull. You made me laugh out loud with that one.

Comment #7 - Posted by: Cory at December 26, 2010 5:43 PM

SAT,

Are you still here? March 7, 2009 you told us of the difficult birth of your son, the troubles experienced by your wife in the effort. We asked you his name, asked that you let us save a place for him here at the CF table. Do you still visit here, chez Crossfit?

Tell us, Brother. How is your son? His mother? You? We DID hear you. We DID listen. It's what we do, we who are Crossfitters. Playoff Beard and I really would like to know. Tell us...how is your son?

Comment #26 - Posted by: mcsharry at December 26, 2010 9:30 PM

@ANYC, that is exactly what I thought, dammit.

@Jon: bringing a near-max jerk load back down to your shoulders can be dangerous and cause injury. It's best to drop it. We use jerk blocks for heavy weights (platform blocks stacked high to catch a dropped jerk or push press).

On Kstars stance....I would venture to say he has a nice wide stance used by power lifters. I recently attended a PL seminar at CF Pleasanton, they are big on powerlifting. Getting the bar lower behind the shoulders and a wider stance will keep the knees from traveling forward and helps keep the hips back, this emphasizes the stronger hip extensors and adductors and consequently reduces knee extensor involvement. Torque on the knee is reduced by a wide stance.

That was a very well chosen workout for the day after 'Bull.'
I knocked through 7 bodyweight (165) jerks, nailing down some technique despite the mud and rain. In fact, technique was vital in this case. As an old coach used to say, 'You should be able to do these on ice.'

This is way off topic with respect to the daily wod but today I decided to do an all-out 500m row. I haven't done one since 1992 when I was in the peak of my rowing career. My time then, as a 22 year old national team member was 1:30. My time today as a 41 year old housewife who crossfits in her garage... 1:34.1

Then I went out into the garage and used our new Christmas presents to ourselves (Rogue Olympic bar, blue straps and skipping rope)

4 rounds of
3x 135# squat clean
100 single unders
10 pullups with the blue band.

time: 13:01

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas. I'm still working hard at getting rid of all the bad food in the house... slowly but surely...

I havent been able to do olympic lifting at college. I just throw girls a lot cause I'm a cheerleader. Also, I do lots of heavy squats.

I came back for xmas break and cleaned 315 pounds in my first workout. A 20 pound pr without having cleaned in over a month. After plenty of nutrition and sleep and 72 hours of rest, I was back in the gym and struggling with 285lbs. Two days later, same weight was a struggle.

I don't understand the neurological aspect of recovery. I dont feel sore at all and I feel energetic, but the weight wont go up.

Help Please!

(Also, I think this is relevant to today's wod - singles of jerk)

#69 Patrick,

Being shown that there are many that will invest large amounts of time and effort in a cool but ultimately pointless endeavor makes for motivation to guide the same time and effort to something more useful like CrossFit.

Either that, or it's displaying the accuracy trait. Which begs the question are there CrossFit versions of these types of accuracy tests. I can imagine trying to get a 2kg sand bag into a 60cm diameter hole 3m away. Now just repeat that 50 successes for time (burpee for every miss).

Comment #82 - Posted by: Thinlizzie at December 27, 2010 2:53 PM

to answer all those "are his feet supposed to be that wide?" questions...every BODY has different mechanics, seriously. every single one of us in the olympic weight lifting world has a slightly different stance. as much as it is very general to hip width or shoulder width or whatever width..it will still look a little different...we are all one but not in the same
!

feet are wide and toes are straight and as EC stated knees are out creates torque coming out of the bottom of the squat. I'm sure there is more to it than that but that is as far as I need to know. knees out good torque knees in = bad torque.

39M/5'10"/170#

W/U: SJ, 6x3 at 45-65-95-115-145-165#.

As Rx: 215-215-215-225-225(f)-205-205#.

C/D: handstand hold, 1 min.

At 225 I was off my 1RM PR by 15#. However, I'm not too disappointed with today's results. I think I'm still recovering from doing "Bull" yesterday. Drive was a little lazy and shoulders were tired. Decided to drop the weight down after the second 225, as I didn't feel like I had much left. Didn't want to risk injury, esp. since I don't have bumpers.

First day back working out since 12/17, aside from some runs and hikes. Felt quite fresh. Last 1RM SJ PR was on 6/29/2010, with the PR at 185#.

Warmups with reps at 45# and 135#.

135-155-175-195f-195-205-215f

PR of 20#. Really thought I had 215 but I've noticed that fatigue hits quickly with heavy split jerks, push presses, and shoulder presses...

Warm down of 50 vested pullups with 20# vest, broken into 30-20. Happy holidays everyone, have a great day.
