I think it means that few things are really impractical and it is a lack of desire or will to do them that leads to failure rather than a lack of ability, just my interpretation.

It means that a 3:01 time for 30 155 C&J's is possible, it just takes an extraordinary effort to achieve it and why would anyone want to put out that effort? Therefore, it probably wouldn't normally be obtained.

I am assuming that they added in their rest time to calculate their total time on the Wod so you have to add 12 minutes to your final time. Its not just the time it takes to do the work portion. Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure thats how it works

Word to the wise....

Don't go head to head in a rope climb competition with someone who has a 40" vertical and no regard for his own safety!! Ha Ha!

I am STILL upset about this....and Pat...we are still in a fight!

GO TEAM ROGUE!!

PS.... I am thinking of using this pic for this years Christmas card!

Thanks Clark! Had to shave it off though, my wife sneaked up on me and got the side with the razor.

It was an honor to be on the Rogue team.

Comment #29 - Posted by: Jason Khalipa at November 1, 2010 7:47 PM

There are automatically 12 minutes in this workout, alone, built off of rest. Those 16 minute times are actually 28+

The 3 minute rest times count as part of your total time.

I am pulling for team Rouge though if you asked me why I wouldn't be able to give you a reason. I was really excited to see it going so well in the beginning of the competition but I have to hand it to Again Faster for coming out of nowhere when it counts. Great job everyone, this is the most I have looked forward to for more videos every day.

About the quote, my interpretation is that almost nothing is impossible. People do not succeed because they don't see the reason to or can't convince themselves that they can. The problem does not lie in a lack of ability or skills to get the job done.

Pat Barber was scary fast up that rope. Miranda was step for step with the other girls all weekend. She was top 20 in 2008, missed 2009 with back injury but would have qualified without a doubt, and missed out on 2010. She has improved her endurance and running and will be in the games in 2011.
Yes, Khalipa's stache was the best of the weekend and was probably a 9 out of 10 on the creepy/perv meter.
Thank you to all for the praise and criticism on our performances in Tahoe. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot about ourselves. Keep the criticism coming please, it's better fuel than Progenex.
And by the way, even though Lipson may not hit parallel on every squat he does, the man is a beast. I squatted with him a couple weeks ago and he made 450 look like 150. Respect.

Just a comment on the moustaches...

It's the second day of Movember (Moustache + November), and I'm not sure if anyone saw the video of Matt Chan, but his moustache helped him win the USAW/CrossFit Open.

I'm growing mine all month for men affected by not only prostate cancer, but all cancers. Great to see CrossFitters doing it already. Anyone else rocking one this Movember?

Ted,

You're an idiot.

Miranda,

No shame in losing to the Manimal. Everyone there epitomizes elite fitness, enough said.

Thanks to everyone for putting your performances out there for our viewing pleasure, knowing full well there will always be one or two that have nothing to contribute other than second guessing everything you do.

Thanks for posting here, Tommy, Miranda, Tyson, and Kris.

BTW, the mustaches rock, even Boz's.

@JohnB, I've started working on my moustache too. It's great to hear other CrossFitters working for such a good cause. This could be a valid reason for Jason Khalipa to grow that bad boy out again, it was pretty awesome.

38:10 on the WOD today, was a little disappointed until I realized the firebreather times are only about 10 minutes ahead of me. I'll take that any day.

Adrian & Ted,

Unless you were personally effected by someone's athletic performance (i.e. Miranda lost her grip and dropped a brick on your foot) why would you even feel the need to make your comments in this type of forum? I don't know any of the competitors personally but I just watched yet another video that left me inspired and looking forward to my next workout. And to think you watched the same performance and simply felt the need to be critical says a lot about your character or lack thereof.

Thanks to both teams for going all out in the spirit of friendly competition. Truly inspiring performances.

Big thank you to Crossfit, the phenomenal athletes on both teams in the Throwdown, and the production crew for the killer coverage of the event! My wife and I have really enjoyed watching the vids every evening...you guys have no idea how motivating you are to these 2 average (on REALLY good days) Crossfitters. We've been doing this for 18 months now and it has absolutely transformed us and the way we live our lives..no joke!
The event 11 split-screen orgy of Crossfit pain was really amazing...made me want to sprint out of my office and bust out another WOD!!

Shame on the 2 hating knuckleheads...completely false and out of line. Miranda=Elite, period! PB, that was an epic display of fortitude and reckless abandon! GREAT STUFF!!! KEEP IT COMING!!!

This has been a great cycle, with successes and PR's, but am I glad it's done! I have been ridden hard and put away wet, as they say.

I think I missed the entire controversy, and any coward can say anything over the internet, but I'm not sure I'd ever dare an unkind word about Miranda in a crowd of CrossFit main site fans, especially the fellows. That's a great way to be torn limb from limb in a matter of seconds.

Although I have only been using CrossFit for a month or so now, I thought that I had grasped the notion that the workouts are deceptively challenging. Barbara reminded me again that CrossFit will definitely kick your butt if your aren't ready for it. My next Barbara will have to better than this one.

5:40, 6:05, 6:31, 6:56, 7:06

On a side note, I love reading everyone comments about the workouts and videos. The video demos are inspiring even when I know I will never be able to do anything close to what Khalipa or Lipson are doing. It is great to have the bar set so high though so I have something to shoot for. I love the challenge.

And Miranda, you are awesome. You are just as motivating and inspirational as the men, if not more so. Where do I go to join your fan club?

I realized that, though the reps were about right for me, the 3 minutes was a bit too long of a rest. So after doing the first round in 1:05, I rested for about 30 seconds and went non-stop after that.

-first two sets felt bad, but they were fastest. Felt smooth on third and fourth, but they were slowest. Go figure.
-situps seemed like hardest effort of every set.

Comment #114 - Posted by: Heather Szabo at November 2, 2010 12:10 PM

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. The point of the prescribed rest is to encourage folks to give close to max effort for each round. If there were no prescribed rest, I would try to pace the early and intermediate rounds. With three minutes, I would think that I should go all out, knowing that I have some time to recover for the next round.

+1 for Miranda's awesomeness. Heir apparent to Annie Sakamoto, definitely fan worthy.

Comment #115 - Posted by: Marco at November 2, 2010 12:13 PM

Thanks for everyone who has posted nice comments! I especially thank my teammates for sticking with me.

I take full responsibility for Rogues loss in that workout. It was a bad judgement call to wait that extra second to go up. My thinking was that I didn't want to fail the climb half way up....and there was NO WAY anyone there could have seen Pat climbing all 3 in 15 seconds!! (Yes I timed it).

Guess what else??? I am going to continue to post videos and send in times. Sometimes they are going to be things I suck at. EVERYONE has weaknesses. EVERYONE has good days and bad days. I might have more than some of the other amazing women who were in Tahoe....but there is only one way to get better right??

I am not trying to portray being anything other than I am...a CrossFitter who is working hard to get back to the Games.

I love this community. I love being a part of Team Rogue!

Hmm, don't know if I did something wrong here? The sundial seemed to be positioned correctly. I did not expect to go fast today and that is a pr on the total time by about a minute! I guess stressing out, sleep deprivation, and traveling extensively is a good way to pr? The big improvement seemed to be the pushups and situps, all sets were unbroken, never managed that before.

Yet another reason I think so highly of Miranda, her response to comments is one of a true champion. She doesn't boast or whine, she holds her head high and continues on. Your work is incredible to watch and the fact you know how to laugh at yourself makes you that more amazing. I have never met her but hope that one day when I open my gym I will get the chance to have her visit as she will have a standing invite. All of the athletes at Tahoe were amazing. Remember, they are human as well. Perfection is something we should all strive for and when we fail our self at that goal it doesn't get us closer by picking at others. Tommy, Jason, Miranda, Speal, Tanya...the list goes on, you are mentors to me. Thank you!

Great stuff. I was feeling off for the last couple of weeks, fighting a virus and doing a lot of shoulder mobility. Been feeling sluggish, but broke through today.

Must have been the motivation watching Miranda!

Its all Miranda, all the time!

Day #7: Lvl 1 Cert took up my rest day, and made me miss the Halloween Squat C&J.
Changed it up today to keep it going.

Warm Up:
1 Round CFWU (subbed in ring dips/GHD situps/snatch for dips/situps/OHS)
100 Double-Unders
Mobility Wod

WOD:
10 reps Squat C&J @135lbs
3 rounds for time.
Rest exactly 2 minutes between each round.
1:02 - 1:08 - 1:18 = 7:28

Focused on technique. Not too pumped about the times/volume; but it was exactly what I needed on day 7.
100 DU to end it.
My Rolling Stones playlist probably was not ideal for high intensity, but great for an enjoyable WOD.
Finally, I rest.

39M/5'10"/170#

W/U: shoulder press, 95x5 - 115x5 - 130x10.

As Rx (while wearing 20# vest): 2:26 - 2:41 - 2:56 - 3:00 - 4:09.

C/D: static hamstrings stretching, 3 min each side.

Total time (minus rests): 15:12. First time doing this while wearing a 20# vest. Kipping pull-ups; chest to deck push-ups; bent-knee anchored sit-ups; squats to 20# wall ball.

Going into this, I still had some DOMS from the GHDSU a few days ago. Abs felt like a blazing fire from the middle of R2 on. The weight from the vest pressing on my stomach made the rest prds uncomfortable. Quads started burning during R3. Really felt like quitting after R4. This was pure torture. But on the plus side, this is one of the few times Mr. Pukie didn't try to pay a visit during this WOD. I think keeping on my feet most of the time after each round had a lot to do with that.

Experienced complete pullup and crunch failure midway thru each excercise 5th rd. Took a small breather on each excercise and gutted them out. This will be a good gauge on how much I progress next time I run into this beast of a WOD. Gut checked myself in the parking lot!

scaled to "Barbie" version. Thanks for that Brand X. As if working out at the "puppies" or "butter cup" levels weren't bad enough.

Five rounds, each for time of:
5 Pull-ups
10 Push-ups
15 Sit-ups
20 Squats

1:31
1:54
2:16

at least i was able to kip all the pull ups and do them in unbroken sets. I didn't think i could do that.

Next time fuel up a little closer to the wod.
