Comment #4 - Posted by: Kim Malz~Fit Mom in CT of CrossFit Persevere (F40/130/5'2") at October 24, 2010 5:37 PM

i think 185lb clean and jerk should be Rx'd given that it is only one rep... bring it on!

Comment #5 - Posted by: jkel at October 24, 2010 5:46 PM

This looks similar to the journal video of speal vs khalipa except that was 1 up to 10 C&J's increasing each round. This'll be a good test of lifting heavy under stress though. Shooting for a 205# c&j on this tomorrow! Woo!

Comment #6 - Posted by: Jordan D. at October 24, 2010 5:49 PM

"Why didn't you just back off at the end there?"

"'Cus I can't do that. That's not crossfit."

EXACTLY - awesome work, both.

Cindy with a jerk on top?

Comment #8 - Posted by: Tomanator at October 24, 2010 6:05 PM

Comment #9 - Posted by: Nick A. 36yo, M, 163#, 68" at October 24, 2010 6:07 PM

Is everyone doing Clean & Jerk with a full squat, not power c & j?

Comment #10 - Posted by: Laurie at October 24, 2010 6:12 PM

#10 I suspect it doesn't matter since it has to come off the ground every time anyway?

Going for #3's Rx.

Have fun.

Am I right to assume they don't mean BW squats?

Comment #13 - Posted by: Rufus at October 24, 2010 6:55 PM

#13, I think it's BW squats.. anyone know?

Comment #14 - Posted by: Steve at October 24, 2010 7:03 PM

If it just says "squats", it will always be free squats: i.e. bodyweight.

Comment #15 - Posted by: Billy/Engine 25 37/M/210/5'9" at October 24, 2010 7:23 PM

Dear fellow CrossFitters,

As part of a marketing assignment at school, I need to run a survey and try to get as many responses as possible.

The topic for the marketing assignment is open and, me being a big CrossFit fan, I made a survey regarding fitness and sled-running, which is something that I am very interested in.

I would like to ask for your help in getting the responses by filling out a survey. It is very short and takes about 2 minutes to complete, you only need to check a few boxes.

The link to the survey is this one:

http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/395617/Sled-Running-and-Power-Measurement-in-Fitness

Thank you very much for your time.

3...2...1....GO!!

Squat cleans and push jerks. Done at home, no drop offs allowed.

80% of my 1RM C&J felt rather lightweight, but only in the beginning. Tried to maintain a 1 round per minute pace, but needed too much time to catch my breath and concentrate before the C&J after a few rounds.

Heather, thanks for letting your daughter appear in the video with you. I believe our daughters are the same age (10) and I've been debating on letting her start with the weights. She's now into basketball and possibly soon track and her one disadvantage is that she's smaller than her peers. She has speed which is a plus, but I'd like to see her get stronger. I guess I've been thinking it might be too soon for her to lift.

Your vid with your baby has been the tipping point for me. I will be designing a program from my baby now. Thanks again.

Great cert this weekend up at King CF. Props out to the Renton Fire Training center for hosting us. Loads of new and refined info, neat people taking the cert with me (lumberjack sports? awesome!), some familiar faces from previous certs (Jesse, Nathan), and yet still no muscle up. I guess I want to get it at my home affiliate, sorry guys to disappoint.

All of the trainers did a great job - clear presentation of the information, very little digression away from topic, and everything moved along nice and smoothly. No complaints (I tried to think up something facetious).

Sumo Deadlift Highpull does approximate a real world movement. Putting luggage into the back of a car, or pulling it off of a conveyor belt.

Now to absorb everything that I learned.

Interesting workout, I am surprised no one mentioned that the workout did not specify either "for time" nor "for max weight" as we typically see, instead leaving it vague and thus, to a certain degree, up to the individual athlete, I like this. I chose to go with middle ground, a medium load (~80% 1RM as Kim mentioned above).

10:59 @ 175# with power cleans and split jerks.

Took time (~10-15 seconds) to reset before each clean and jerk.

5 Pull-ups chest to bar
10 Push-ups

weight , first 3 rounds at 175lbs last 7 rounds at 165lbs
time 20:02

man wat a workout. On the 3rd round clean I cleaned it and was in the rack position and got dizzy and felt like I was going to passout, dropped the bar took a min to clear my head and wonderd if I could even finish.

I took off 10 pounds and kept going.

all the cindy work was unbroken with C2B pullups, chest and nose to deck on pushups, squats good depth. All my time was setup and on the cleans. It is so hard to do oly lift fast.

This was one of my favorite WODs in a while. Cindy is just a go all out workout but throwing in the C&Js meant you had to do some thinking and focus on technique while gassed. 205lb was just about right for me, I think any heavier and I would have lost the intensity. Lots of fun!

NEVER QUIT!!

I've been slow to get on board with this Rogue/Again Faster thing. Videos look cool so far. What I'm having trouble wrapping my head around is the fact that these "sponsored athletes" are just that--sponsored by Rogue and Again Faster?!?

To quote Again Faster's website, "...we wanted the finest athletes in Crossfit to concentrate on their training without worrying about covering their gear, training, and travel costs..."

I'm no elite Crossfitter. I've never qualified for the CF Games. I don't have a sub-3 minute Fran time.

The beauty of the Crossfit Games, however, was that we (I use the term "we" to represent all of us "common crossfitters") had the opportunity to compete against guys who were the best--Orlando, Bergeron, Speal, Barber, etc.--because they are regular guys like me who were good at Crossfit. This isn't the NHL or MLB. They're not pros, so we have access to them. I can't walk up to Sydney Crosby and ask him to go one-on-one into the corner to see who comes out with the puck. And, hell, 99 times out of 100 I'm not going to go into a workout with one of these guys on Team Rogue or Again Faster and come out with a better time or heavier weight. The fact was, however, that we were all on the same level playing field. Sure, some of the guys are naturally strong, naturally fast, or for some reason have an extra gear that the rest of us don't. This "sponsoring" of Crossfit athletes rubs me the wrong way.

I am looking to compete in the Sectionals in 2011. I had planned to in 2010, but had something called rhabdomyolosis in early February after some poorly planned training. Enough about rhabdo--the fact is that I'm a regular guy with a 9-5 job. I got Level 1 Certified a couple years ago. I train a handful of friends in a garage gym that a bunch of us built a few years back. I'm a nobody. But hey, I have the opportunity to put my Oly shoes and board shorts on and walk out onto the floor at Crossfit Milford and go head to head with some of the best.

Well now that these guys are being compensated to train--given equipment, travel expenses, etc. while the rest of us are sacrificing spending money to build that sweet new gym in the basement for our normal expenses, I have to call B/S.

I don't want to see a Pro vs. Amateur class in the Games going forward. That only complicates things more, because then someone is the "Fittest Non-Sponsored" in the world while another is the "Fittest Sponsored Crossfit Athlete".

And please don't get me wrong--this is not an attack on any of the HQ staff trainers--they seem like great guys/girls and are hard working. I've met Speal and had the opportunity to train at his gym when I was in Park City last year.

It's not like they're volunteering their time to be HQ Trainers. If that was the case, then sure, give them their weight in bumper plates for every cert they teach at. I'd be fine with that. But that's not the case. I'll spare everyone from an over-analysis of how much they make based on the 200 people in the pictures at $1000 a whack.

Long story short--now the average guys who works hard to furnish a garage gym or to pay for an affiliate membership is at a disadvantage because there are "professional" Crossfit athletes out there. Please don't think that I want Rogue and Again Faster to just start giving stuff away to the public. This isn't Russia, Danny. Is this Russia? I don't think they should be providing it to anyone nor should they be picking up travel costs for these guys to train.

That's all for my rant. Squat to full depth. Thanks.

Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of overstanding;
And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

Is anybody familiar with chataranga push-ups, meaning the arms are tucked next to the body like in yoga? I have been trying to get these more military style push-ups with a wide hand space but it is extremely slow progress. I was wondering if chataranga push-ups would be considered valid in crossfit. I don't think they are necessarily easier. I am just better at them because of my yoga experience. And I can easily go chest to deck with them during a wod. Any comments will be appreciated.

Yes, familiar with chataranga push ups and since it is not technically a CF push up i would not discourage you from using them...but I would encourage to continue practicing regular pushups. having a little variety will not hurt anyone:)Besides, no one begins CF knowing how to kip or do 95% of the stuff that is required. Good luck!

C/D: kettle bell snatch (left & right), 4x5 at 25-35-55-70#.

Controlled drop on C&J (no bumpers); kipping pull-up; chest to deck push-up; below parallel squat.

Didn't take long for that 205# C&J to get really heavy. By R4 or 5, I think it was taking longer to do one C&J than it was to do the remaining 3 exercises combined. :) Still, I think it was the perfect weight to use. This was a good challenge.

With all of the controversy in the news about role models doing drugs and cheating I feel very privileged to be a member of the Crossfit community. I'll do this WOD tomorrow during the rest day. I hurt my foot this weekend and had to catch up on the workouts, they're posted on their pages. I also have a quick question, I go to a globo gym, so I have to sub a Wallball Shot with DB Thrusters. When subbing, does the weight count as the sum of the two dumbells (30lbs * 2= 60), or do I just count the weight of 1 dumbell (30lbs), would they be "30# DB thrusters" or "60# DB thrusters". I know this question is odd, but I would just like to know.

Completely misred this WOD. I did 10 reps CJ, 5PU, 10PU, 15Squats, for number of iterations in 10 mins. Used 95 lbs for the CJ, did 3 times through complete and the CJ and Pullups a 4th before time ran out. It was a smoker even though it was very different than the perscribed WOD

3rd time ever doing CJs. Left shoulder slightly hurts although not as much as before. I'm learning to rack properly and trying to get more shoulder flexibility. Had about 4 failed CJs which slowed me down. I am really interested in learning the CJ and Snatch technique; I need to study/practice these movements a ton. I also need to learn how to properly do kipping pull ups and get that momentum going. Fun times though. Keep crushing all!

As rx'd. 205# in 13:27. Power/split cleans.

Tough but fun. Was shooting for 12-15 minutes. 5 rounds in 5 minutes, but slowed down significantly in the second half. I was still on pace for 12 min, but missed 2 jerks in round 9, which ate up a lot of time trying to recover. I was fatigued, but more likely these were probably just due to lack of concentration and poor form. On both misses, I had a weak dip and drive and would have had to really press them out. Pullups and squats unbroken. Pushups started breaking round 6 or so. I seem to be pretty weak (still) on high rep pushup WODs.

Full SQTs on the C&J 1st 2-3 rounds then PC, legs wouldnt have made it through if I had not opted for the PC. Ok now my right knee hurts not painful but I dont know if I should do anything else for awhile. It has been going on and off for a couple of months or so now but its really starting to bother me. I am almost certain its because of bad form on SQTs. I have been CFing for 1.5 yrs now with no professenial training just me the CFjournal and practice. I did my best when teaching myself EVERTHING and so far so good until now (I think its starting to catch up with me). I would really like some coaching to correct form on a majority of the lifts. I defintley can be better.

DO WORK!!!

135 lbs. clean and jerk (failed on a few of the jerks).
5 chin-ups (chest to bar, some kipped, some jumped).
10 push-ups (first time doing from a rested position on the ground...definitely tougher than regular)
15 squats

10 rounds* in 32:59.

* I may have lost count of 1 round between 7 and 8...though I believe all 10 rounds were completed.

I did a different WOD last night
I did MARY because I have not done that in a LONG time and it had a lot components that I have not worked on in a long time as well.
I did 10 rounds in well under 20 minutes with FULL ROM. I was really happy that everything was unbroken. Although I usually do well with the pullups, in WODs that have higher rep pullups I usually have to break my sets in the middle to later rounds, so I wanted to really push hard to not break any rounds. The pullups were challenging in round 8-10 to not break the 15s so I was happy. My gym is not set up for today's WOD because the only pullup station is FAR from the area to do OLY lifting, so I did this instead. I was originally thinking I'd do 6 rounds and then do some Oly snatch work or some heavier C&Js but this was a good WOD and I'm happy with the output, especially beause I had no clock to view and just worked. I looked at a clock at the begining and when I was done with 6 rounds and when I was done with 10 rounds.
