Wow! Dang rights she's from Canada. I hope they post all the workouts in the journal, I gotta see some of this madness!
I've got to commend Tony Budding on the EPIC mustache that he's rocking in the Tahoe preview video.
Austin represent!
I think Tony's mustache is going to win!
Adding Camille to that scenery creates the most beautiful photo ever taken.
I think it's great that out of 6 comments, Tony's mustache has been mentioned in 3 of them. It is EPIC, and It probably will win any competition it enters.
Tony,
That stache is disgustingly awesome.
So are regular people supposed to compete against all these athletes who are sponsored by vendors, having all their training/travel expenses paid and coached by SMEs from all the specialty certs?
There really ought to be a pro category.
lots of coors light in todays vids...
Camille is ridiculously gorgeous
Does anyone know if there is way to retrieve all the old posts from previous years. I have taken a full year off crossfit and am starting back up and thought it would be beneficial to have some targets. I know I can click through historically based on day but was hoping from something easier/quicker. Thanks - Steve
Holy Barley and Hops Batman,
Don't they know that there are grains in that can of Coors Light????
Do the neighbors know that you guys are hanging out on the dock? After dark? In Tahoe?
Can't wait for follow up vids, should quite the watch! I dig both Rogue and AF...should be a rad event!!!
whats with the coors light in the amazing grace vid?
Are there going to be videos posted of the challenge?
This Team challenge is going to be so sick!
Anyone have a general idea of who is on what team?
What's the difference between a thruster and a push press?
I have been privileged to be one of the few watching the events live at the Tahoe thowdown. I am a member at CrossFit Avalanche and we are very fortunate to have this happening in our neck of the woods. I can't wait until all the videos come out of the epic call outs challenges and crazy WODs made on the fly. Can't wait to see what's going to happen tomorrow!
Ardfizz.
YouTube both thruster and push press.
You'll see in the push press it is just a little dip with your legs and hips and you get the weight above you.
In a thruster, your doing a complete front squat, then exploding up to get the barbell above you. They are very different movements.
What is Tony's connection to Middlebury?
why all the power lifts lately? I missin the ones that constantly gas you
115-135-155-165-175-190-200
135-145-145-150-155-155 160
so quick question. are we allowed to go up on our toes or is that considered cheating?
Camille... will you marry me?
Btw... has anyone besides me looked at Tony and thought, "You must be the new sheriff in town..."?
Does anyone know where that video clip about the people describing their gym. I forget where I've seen it. They say "this is my gym" and they describe how close and personal people are when they workout together.
Coors Light and breast cancer. Ironic.
Really looking forward to some footage from the throwdown in Tahoe. What was with all the Coors Light in those videos.
Wow, team Rogue looks really strong. The last 3 years winners on the mens side and 2 of the last 3 years winners on the womens. From the list in the video, I get the impression that they will pair up Mikko with Clever in the 2-2 workout. All I can say is OMG! Bring it!
Mikko's personality kicksass as usual, but im not sure that he understands what Budding says in the last 30 seconds of the video. Haha!
My 54th officially logged WOD:
Thruster 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 reps
Results: 85-95-105-115-125-135-145(PR)
First time doing 1RM for this lift. Prob could have eked out a few more lbs but left shoulder was not feeling it. Finished with some light snatch balance practice. When shoulder is back to 100%, I'll make up the snatch balance 1RM WOD.
coors light???
as a viewer of that video, i am only left to believe that coors light was a sponser for the amazing grace fundraiser, as it was strategically placed in so many shots.
so so dissapointed to see the spirit, integrity, and focus of the event tainted with the presence of such a questionable sponser, one that has no place in crossfit, let alone in a breast cancer fundraiser.
Almost had a PR with 275, just couldn't lock the elbows out. Got it over head... but it's still a fail! Uhg... Guess I'll be happy with 265 for now. Until next time!

Couple of points:
"Regular folks" haven't been really competing against Games-level competitors for a couple or years, just like "regular golfers" aren't really competing against Ricky Fowler. We "play" the same game, sure, but not at the same level.
Coors Light is nothing more, or less, than the favorite beer (at least historically) of Coach, so it tends to show up at places where CF and CF HQ folks buy the beer.
Beer is good...

Why on earth are you even mentioning dead soldiers in this context? What are you, Walter from The Big Lebowski? Last time I checked, the Amazing Grace fundraiser was to raise money for breast cancer (a disease my own mother died from). So thank you Coors, if you did indeed contribute to the fundraising event, and if not, thank you for making one of humanity's most treasured beverages...beer!

@45/Bingo
I respectfully disagree. There were plenty of non-celebrity crossfitters at this year's games. There were a fair number who don't even train at an affiliate. If that doesn't demonstrate that regular people can compete then I don't know what does.
Once vendors and HQ start sponsoring some athletes and affording them advantages not available to everyone (equipment, coaching, supplements, money) then you have two standards. I would constructively suggest that there should be two categories: professional and amateur.
It's really hard to stay motivated to compete when you see the resources being lavished on these people that nobody has access to.
wowow....epic team battle!
it is a crazy cast of athletes for sure!
cannot wait.
having a couple of beers is not going to kill anyone so I dont know why people are stressing about the presence of beer.

(...it's not just gratuitous product placement in Amazing Grace, it's in the Tahoe bits too)
Maybe that's considered "success," being able to tap big corporate dollars, but it sure feels like "sold out."
...and that's the image to put out there, CFers kill beers between sets?
Whatever though, I'm gonna WOD today...
#57 some dude,
Thanks for your cordial reply! There is a distinct difference between a CF "celebrity" and a CF Games-worthy competitor. One can be the second without being the first, and indeed there are quite a few CF "celbrities" who are not "Games-worhty".
The better way, IMO, to view these videos and to approach the highest level CF competitions in the future is to do so through the prism of the Olympics, PGA golf, and major endurance competitions like the Ironman and the Boston Marathon, or even stuff like snowboard or "Big Mountain" skiing competitions. The people who compete at this level in these competitions are not "regular people" even if they do not enjoy major sponsorship from any particular source, CFHQ or otherwise. These folks train, at least the last couple of years, like pretty much everyone else in the highest levels of competition, stuff that "regular guys" like me, and presumably you, simply don't or can't do.
They were a version of pro, at least at the top levels, before they were so openly sponsored, and the "where did he/she come from" competitor on the national level in CF will go the way of the same in Triathalon, X-Games, Marathon, Snowboarding, etc.
Some 2 or 300,000 Crossfitters are still, and ever will be, competing only 'you vs. you'.
I appreciate and thank you, not only for your point of view, but also for the cordial and congenial tone in your post.

CrossFit is becoming increasingly corporate. Which for better or for worse...it is what it is. Staying true to the original concepts about cream rising to the top and keeping an open mind is the only way to wade through the vast amounts of information that comes from both the CrossFit community and the traditional fitness community at the same time.
This new corporate mindset being the case it is OBVIOUS that professionals are going to occur within the community. There is nothing that can be done about it, and no use in crying over what CrossFit has become. The best thing you can do is to analyze the different workout schemes/nutritional methods and find the one that fits you best. Then get stronger and faster...and beat the corporate guys at their own game.
A little hint from someone quasi qualified (Level 1 cert/Med student) to analyze what most of the "Pros" are doing: They are WAY OVERTRAINING (unless they are supplementing with performance enhancers). Work harder on YOUR WOD. And then beat them because you trained SMARTER.

A good number of folks are in the gym because they are recovering addicts of some sort.... drinking alcohol in the gym is a horrible idea regardless of if its a sponsored event or not. What's next? Smokeless cigarettes?

Coors? Really? If you're going to drink, you may as well drink a good beer (for the guys in the Rogue Vs. Again Faster, you should have had New Belgium. So much better than Coors Swill).
And drinking while lifting? There's a great thing to be teaching people to do.
I understand party atmospheres, and we joke about drinking and lifting. If you want to have a beer as a post WOD recovery drink, whatever, but please, please, please, don't be drinking and lifting.
I know, I'm full of haterade. Whatever. I'm not critiquing lifting form or complaining about the difference between kipping and not kipping. I'm talking about alcohol and lifting heavy weights over your head. The same reason you don't drink and drive, or drink and shoot, is the same reason you don't drink and Clean and Jerk 135lbs.
We keep hearing how we are outside of the paradigm as Crossfitters, and how we are working towards improving ourselves as people. And then we see mainsite videos that are supposed to entertain and inspire us, all while seeing what is basically irresponsible behavior. Not bad lifting form, but irresponsible behavior (the Grace video). Are we watching Jackass? Should I chalk this video up to people trying to recapture their idiocy of youth?
I know, I'm a buzzkill and full of hate, detracting from inspiration. How about we inspire with responsible and intelligent actions?

''COORS''
I havent seen anything on sponsering the comp. They were drinking on the vid for coach as best i know.
If coors sponsers the thing, so be it, more money for brest cancer.
If you guys don't like it you don't have to cross fit or be associated with it for you morals. Me I love it and am glad to be apart of it. If the get sponcers what ever, I don't run it. It is up to them.
@JL and tyler duniho,
going up on the toes is acceptable. this isn't an official meet and i think crossfit has always been about getting the work done, just like at comps when you do snatch you can press out or the standard for a burpee is just chest to the ground and jump up.
will hit this wod later today, when i first did it i couldn't do more than 130, just a few weeks ago i did 4 at 135, so i'm excited to see how much my strength has gone up.
as far as having beer at a gym or sponsor's or whatever. who cares. i know i don't see the time or point in wasting energy over it. it reminds me when people started getting mad that metallica released a music video. guess what? things evolve, do you think crossfit was the exception? to quote one of my favorite crossfitters "crossfitters like beer" -Mr. Pat Sherwood.

While I do not think it is safe to drink beer while lifting, I do have an issue with it being seen in the videos. The fact that it is NOT Miller Lite or some other tastier beer than Coors Light Turtle water is appaulling. Maybe a Sam Adam's, Harp, something. HA!
As for folks thinking beer being present taints the fund raising event. I can see your point for image purposes only. Quick question for you though, if we held a fund raiser that raised 1/4 million dollars for breast cancer, leukemia, you name it, that would be great right? What if it were a BEER chugging contest? Would the money/donations then be tainted?
The use of it on a fitness/athletic forum promoting healthy lifestyles, I can understand the controversy and people will have to agree to disagree because it happens. I understand both sides. Safety, that could be an issue, but we do not know how much anyone actually had.
Just my 2 cents...

As most of you have forgotten the main site is free, which it seems most of you have taken full advantage of. So unless you want to pay cash monthly for an "advertisement" free main site, shut it.
REALLY!!! That is the video yall are complaining about. I'll bet you are the same parents that complain their kid doesnt get a trophy for losing, or doesnt play enough. If they wanna work out and have a drink...get it!! If your coming on this site to post some complaint and act like some sissy...then stay away...please!!!

I don't want to sound weird or anything but looking at the picture made me think of something. Has anyone ever wanted to stand on the edge of a building just to do it. I've been looked at with very unique expressions when I say that I want to do this out loud. Just standing there, no idea of suicide or anything like that. Just feeling the wind in my hair, my blood flowing as I maintain my balance on the edge of life and death. I thought I would pose this question to individuals that less normal than my friends. Thoughts? comments?

Tony's mustache and Camille at the same venue?!? Sounds like a scene from Apocalypse Now! Can't wait to see how Tahoe went. Don't worry mirada you're still #1 in my CF heart.
My two cents: Mikko represents a unique crossfit celeb because as far as I know he still has his career in civil service as opposed to most of the other athletes simply owning their own box. It's one thing to get a couple wod's in because you spend 8 hours a day in your box, it's another level of commitment to get a few in after 8+ hours of typically arduous work.

Got ‘em, but they felt heavy after yesterday’s wo (front squats 135#). Worried about getting up with these, the press wasn’t too bad though.

CFWU-3. Reg. Superman. Burgener. Row 500m.
135,150,160,170,180,185,195-PR. Quite a bit of press on last one.
Good job keeping knees out. Generated a lot more power coming out of squat. Hand & wrist position good. Able to roll forward on way up. Maintain good rack position w/elbows slightly in.

Could probably do more; more mental block & form issues than lack of power.
