Spealler at faster than 1 movement every 2 seconds. Amazing. And its probably just about bodyweight for him too.

If I had to do this at 225# HPC's it would take me until next week.

Orlando is so friggin' strong. In his video, he doesn't even bother with full hip extension. Like 185 lbs is just some minor annoyance. Amazing.

Comment #8 - Posted by: Cy at October 14, 2010 5:51 PM

Comment #9 - Posted by: Mike Jones at October 14, 2010 5:55 PM

Regarding the Hybrid video ...

Lack of full hip extension to finish the HPC, and what is it with people not following their bars? Don't allow your bar to get in someone else's workout space!

Really enjoy watching and learning from Carl Poali. Great gymnast great instructor.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Ryan at October 14, 2010 6:07 PM

agreed Amy...I was told 80/20 at my cert...meaning 80% acceptable and 20% of reps unacceptable is a somewhat typical ratio....but when bad habits are repeated consistently throughout an entire W.O.D. we look bad....Don't get me wrong,I love watching our top athletes compete and perform daily, but as Crossfitters we get knocked on this stuff all the time....better quality always...not just on videos but always.

Is the move more from the hips, or muscled up with the arm?

Comment #23 - Posted by: Jake at October 14, 2010 7:38 PM

Heather has better technique on the hang cleans than Rich.
I undestand you have to be straigth after you clean the barbell, Rich has his knees bend.
Another thing is about the burpees, you have to clap overhead not touch your hands behind the head.
Well those little thing does make a difference in competition.
Keep it up guys.

I love CF and I love posting because it allows me to log my workouts but reading the posting recently is really disturbing. What ever happened to people celebrating awesome feats of strength and power. Everyday, the comments are riddled with criticisms of the movements and CF HQ for putting them on the main page. My mamma told me that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

With that being said...AWESOME efforts from everyone who did the WOD today. Just doing something instead of sitting on your butt, made you better. If you gave it everything you had and left nothing in the tank, you are a success today. See you all tomorrow.

NEVER QUIT!!

I have watched each demo video for todays wod and I have to say I am NOT impressed. The athletes in these videos are supposed to be the cream of the crop right? Then why are most of their techniques sub-par to what CF HQ dictates? A proper Burpeee ( according to the burpee demo video on this site ) cosists of a min 6 inch jump off the ground with FULL extension and a clap ABOVE the head, NOT behind it. The HPCs were good for the most part, except for the fact that they all looked like reverse BB curls. There were NO high elbows at all. If you can reverse curl the Rxed weight, it's too light. You shoud put up Spealers video....I'll bet he did it right. Just my thoughts....

Every single day the posts consist 50% of people pointing out poor form.

If poorer form is acceptable than cool, but let's set the benchmark correctly.

Thanks for the classy response Timmy! I try not to be picky on technique on the mainsite especially with the company you have over there at Hybrid. I know you guys are coaching it right over there! Have you tried Airrosti or any other Active Release Therapy for the shoulder? Not sure what your opinions of that are, but I can say from experience that it does wonders for mobility. Almost like having a months worth of heavy duty stretching done in each session, which does equal a painful therapy, but well worth it in my opinion. Trigger Point would also be very beneficial for your recovery, although not as quick on recovery as having a trained myofascial therapist gettin deep in there. Great work brother, especially post surgery!

Pretty to new to crossfit and ive been reading these posts each day (shows how exciting my career is??? teaching btw) and i was wondering if any of experienced crossfitter had any advice on nutrition and eating right while on a teacher and fb coaches schedule. Ive bought the books and researched my rear end off on zone and paleo diets but it seems very difficult to someone who leaves the house at 5 am and doenst return until 9 or 10 to realistically follow these ideas. Any suggestions, motivations, shutup and stop whining's would be great!!!
Thanks everyone

Yes today is my B-day what a B-Day gift for my self to do this as RX'D.

AS RX'D

12:05 (PR) last time this WOD came around did it with less weight, I couldn't do 1 x 135 HPC before, now I can and did the Whole WOD, next time this WOD comes around will chase at least the 6 or 7 minute mark, I broke the HPCs down into 5,5,5 / 5,5,3,2 and 3,3,4 3,2 all Burpees Unbroken, Nice WOD and some sick times upthere. Being doing a lot of this WODs in my garage by my self lately.

SANTI

Comment #118 - Posted by: SANTI at October 15, 2010 9:40 AM

Did the WOD as Rx after my flight's morning PT session (led by me) which consisted of:

1000m - 5 pushups, 5 situps
800m - 10 pushups, 10 situps
600m - 15 pushups, 15 situps
400m - 20 pushups, 20 situps
200m - 25 pushups, 25 situps

Then WOD. I wasn't keeping time but I know it wasn't as fast as I thought I was going to be able to do it.

Burpees suck, and I was wondering if anyone else has the problem of trying to jump as high as you can on the jump portion of the movement?

On a sidenote, I am loving the crossfit so far and will never underestimate these workouts anymore.

Make or buy some "paleo kits" - a 4 block bag of beef jerky, almonds (or macadamias, pecans, etc), and dried cranberries, blueberries, etc. Measure them out into 2 or 4 block bags at beginning of the week. Mix 'em up with DAN's comment above if you need some variety to stay sane. You'll be amazed at how much energy a small amount of the right proportions and quality will provide.

20 consecutive strict no kip GI pullups using pistol grip (ring and little fingers, no strong fingers or thumbs) as long as possible (12 reps). Finished the remaining eight reps with entire hands gripping the GI.

Today's WOD:

Three rounds for time of:
15 95# Hang power cleans
15 Burpees with pushup and overhead clap (no swayback or knee pushups, solid plank pushups each rep)

7:03. I stink at the O-lifts. My grip was fatigued from the GI pullups, but it would have made no difference in my time. The HPCs were absolutely horrible. My technique was beyond horrible....I might as well been cleaning a 95# kettlebell the way I was swinging the bar away from myself. I will have to live with this deficit as I don't have the time to work the issue (too much interest in powerlifting, paddleboarding, mountain biking and Judo to do the O-lifts). No breaks on the burpees on any set (good and strong - YAY!)

Judo throwing dummy and set up practice after the WOD. Will practice with a real partner tonight.

Inspired by another CFer (forget who), I made a WOD for my birthday... I am a couple of days late, but finally got to it today.

10/12... 10 reps on each of 12 exercises. Weights in increments of 40lb (25% BW). Begin every set on every other minute.

101015
My Birthday
10/12: 10 reps on each of 12 exercises (on every other minute for 24 mins?): Deadlift, Bench, Hang Clean, Squat, PP, SDLHP, OHS, Dips, Barbell Rows, Front Squat, Ring Push-ups, Pull-Ups
In increments of 25% BW (40, 80, 120, 160, etc)

DL 240lb
Bench 160lb
Hang Clean 120lb
Squat 160lb
Push Press 120lb
SDLHP 80lb
OHS 80lb
Par Bar Dips
Barbell Row 120lb
Front Squat 120lb
Ring Push-up (ended up being push-ups w/ hands elevated on DBs for extended range of motion-forgot the rings today)
Pull-ups

I figure that is a lot of weight for me to move around in 24 min (actually, like 22:30... when the pull-ups were done) and I hit my whole body pretty hard 12,000lb lifted, plus 30 reps of BW only exercises... Looking forward to next year!

Now I gotta think of something for my anniversary and maybe my son's b-day...

Just cause the weight is extra heavy is that Rob's ticket for not having to follow the same standard FULL range of motion? Best of the best shown on these vids should set a good example for the rest of us.

All Efforts: Awesome, great intensity.

On Rob's HPC's... I've seen a bunch of comments talk about lack of high elbows, and then some others saying his form was great. Both comments are missing the point.

The only real "fault" Rob is making in terms of general CrossFit standards is not finishing the movement by opening his hips (standing up completely before the next rep).

High elbows are certainly more efficient, and might in fact be a standard at specific competitions, but not with regards to CrossFit WODs.

The open hip? Always necessary.

How are more people not seeing that, or not caring about that? I'm fairly certain 75% of our box's members would watch that video and call him out on it. You know, right before they talk about how amazing that intensity was.

9:30 I used 115 lbs. Honestly it was my grip that's the biggest limiting factor for the hang power cleans. I can bang out 3-4 or even 5, but after that it get's hard for my grip. The first rond I did 7 and then had to put it down to regrip and get reset. I also don't want to pull something in the effort to cut a few seconds. I would rather keep bette form, to hopefully help me on heavier attempts. I have a little bit of a hard time with high rep Oly type lifts. I was thinking that to help me with my grip I will start to practice deadlifts using the snatch grip and work up with weight so that I have to maintain a grip and it will get stronger. Hopefully that will help out. Funny thing is that WODs with rope climbs and pullups and what not, my grip is not an issue, but with heavy D.L.s and Oly lifts my grip gets to be a limiting factor sometimes.
All burpees done unbroken... just a little bit o a gasser.

Amazing to those doing this as Rx in the 3-4 minute range!!!

Tried this today and realized 135# is probably too much right now for power cleans. I stuck with 135# but did mostly cleans. Time was terribly slow.

Round 1 - got 5 PC then Cleans in 2s-3s - 4:47
Round 2 - 3 PC then mostly Cleans - 6:34
Round 3 - 2 PC then Cleans - 6:52

18:14

Cool down: Went to 95# Power Cleans and was able to do two rounds of 15 unbroken, so I'll scale to 115# next time; 20 Pullups, 50 situps, row 1000m, 20 dips.

Had I been in a CF gym I would have gone Rx'd, but the inevitable bar drop would have put a hole in the floor.

Awesome job to everyone who did this Rx'd. Did Helen last night with a time of 10:35. Forarms were still weak this morning.

Comment #351 - Posted by: BTS at October 19, 2010 4:02 AM

From being in the military, I was always taught that a key part of a burpee is the actual pushup itself. I always basically squat, do a squat thrust to get into pushup position, do the pushup, come back into the squat before jumping back up. There is a definite point in the movement where if you edited it you would see a military pushup.

In all the videos on the site, people just basically get down to their chest as fast as they can, kind of like a sprawl or controlled crash.

Is there any right or wrong way on this?
