Good WOD demo from 801. Anyone think there is too much kip/swing on the muscle ups? Sure you want to get the work done but at what cost? Call it a Swing-up/Kip-up then. Save muscle-up for when there's minimal kip.

Comment #5:
CF is all about functional movement. It's not functional at all to tell an athlete restrictions for a certain movement. That's why a kipping pullup is more functional than a strict one. So, no, you can't kip too much.

And the reason I wanted to post here:
Stiff legged power clean; WHY?! Now that I'm talking about functionality.... Why would you do this if you can power clean?!

"Compound, yet irreducible" right?

Yep! Bill is right about the Bible! It's all there. My fav... The Lord is the everlasting God. He never grows weak or weary. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

I would agree with the Bible for philosophical reading. I know some people are worried this will turn into a discussion on religion, but it is one of the most influential texts in history. Seems to be an important read then, huh?

I know this has probably been discussed often but why for gods sake do we call this Muscle Up?

A MU is done without swinging so that you have to use your muscles and not momentum.

At least call them swinging muscle ups so gymnasts don't laugh at us.

#48- was a gymnast many moons ago.....old coach used to say it is called a muscle up for a reason and anything else is a kip up of which there are varieties such as a swinging kip or inverted kip. Not picking on anyones effort just throwing it out there-
i have not done one wall ball throw without chuckling at the comment someone made about how they throw a homemade ball made to a stump on on their tree at 10'. I do the same and if the canvas tearing up my hands was not enough each throw then the fact that it is as much a "reactive wall ball" throw each time keeps it interesting as i always hope it will come straight back down.

Wall ball I got 36 and finished the 50
The 40 reps were the worst, I wanted 10s but got 6,4 splits with short breaks, the rest were in 10s.

Funny it was harder to get more then 1 rep on MUs after pushing so hard during wallball. But it was all faster. Breaks on MUs were 321go.

@ 48:

I totally agree. Kip-ups are a great metcon exercise, and certainly take some baseline of strength, but nothing close the strength of an actual muscle up. The problem is the kip is essentially negating the most important part of a muscle which is the transition. Otherwise it is little more than a C2B kipping pull up and a ring dip, so long as you have the technique down.

Moving slowly through the transition is much harder, although amusingly this is not even an A level skill for gymnasts.

assisted muscle ups..
--- a little note on muscle ups:
i post as assisted because i can not do a regular muscle up, and i am not ashamed.. i am working towards this goal.. but its slow coming. upper body/core strength is constantly improving but not quite to muscle up strength yet.. maybe one day :) by ASSISTED, i am refering to lowering the rings to about shoulder level and using a (very little) jump to aid myself, therefore i am working more on the top extention of a muscle up..but at no point will i claim that what i am subbing for a regular muscle up is an actual muscle up, it is simply my version of assisting myself untill i reach the day where i can do them as rxd muscle ups

This was almost 2 1/2 minutes slower than last time. I can probably attribute that to the fact that my shoulders and legs are really shot and I just didn't have the energy. I also think that last time I did not have a full 10 feet to throw the ball at so I was probably closer to a 9 foot target. That could also make for a huge difference. Still a fun WOD!

Everyone on here talking about Jesus, God, the Bible or CF-Faith, please just stop. Your man-invented gods, even if it were remotely possible that they existed, don't care about your Fran time. Much like they don't (again, making the ridiculous claim they exist) care about a football game, you winning the lottery or your dog getting healthy. Have faith in your family and friends, not made up stories from another time when "haves" had to keep the "have-nots" under control with doctrine when it became clear physical force would not work much longer.

I used a 10 lb ball, but threw it to a 14' target.
(50 reps + 30,13,7) (10 reps = 6,3,1)
(40 reps + 20,13,7) (8 reps = 4,3,1)
(30 reps + 20,10) (6 reps = 3,2,1)
(20 reps + 20) (4 reps = 3,1)
(10 reps + 10) (2 reps = 2)
I was pretty cold when I started it off. I did some DUs and air squats and static stretching. Felt pretty good.. I can't wait for my gym to get a 20 lb ball. I use the heaviest they have, and just throw it up at a very high target... not the same, but it's a good alternate.
did 5 DUs in 30 secs a few minutes after the WOD.

MU were sets of 1, after 2 or three shake it out. Chalked before each rnd, and whiped down arms after 3rd round to not slip. Nice job of not slipping and cranking a shoulder. So that was a good thing. No misses.
WB were as follows 20-15-15, 15-15-10,12-10-8, 12-8,10. Not a bad wrk out all in all.

Could have shaved some time off the WB, but hitting MU faster would have been the bigger slow item to correct.

Surprised no one mentioned Sun Tzu's Art of War.

Actually, I'm surprised at how many people suggested the Bible...c'mon, he asked for Eastern Philosophy.

Anyone who is familiar with teleological reasoning (or simply thinks critically) understands that the Bible is CATEGORICALLY different from philosophical pursuits - one is concerned with knowing, while the other shuns it.

And if you disagree : Bible says Faith > Reason

cite every biblical allegory and story there is.
