Mat Frankel and the coaches at CFNE are Goat Slayers!
FRAT-
I'll get to posting my results tomorrow when I hit this but for all you globo Infidels out there. The main site is great, so is the CFJournal and all the vids, they've all helped but at some point banging in a box or spending time with a CrossFit Coach will take you off the Mod train and onto the Scale and Rx rockets! I spent way too long trying to fix my pullups and try and get double unders... today all it took was a solid coaching session (Thank Mat) and I've got the cues and tips to string kipping pull-ups as well as consecutive double-unders. PR's are great but today was really amazing day as I added solid movements to my wheel house. Props to the FRAT and get to a box if you can. Great stuff going on at CFNE and a Happy Birthday to Heather Bergeron!
Results from the CFE crowd? They've been promising a elite podium finish for several years. When will it happen? Looks like some age groupers who are happy with results on low training volume but no actual elites tearing things up.
Awesome workout. I browse many affiliate sites to learn about their programming and this seems to be a common thread between many of them. Starting with some short duration heavy lifting followed by a 10-15 minute met-con. I think that it is awesome and I want to thank the Coach and Crossfit for providing so much great guidance!
When I do this tomorrow morning it will be my 40th WOD and, more importantly, a repeat of my very 1st WOD! Can't wait to compare results and see how I've progressed in the past 2 months.
Actually did this today. Snatch - 47.62kg PR, C & J - 61.23kg PR, 2 full rounds, Total= 192.85kg.
I'm pretty new to crossfit (1 month) and am not really comfortable maxing snatches. Should I use tomorrow to work on form or do you suggest maxing in some other lift?
Get some! Bring it!
Santi
@ #7 Tyler - Practicing your technique would definitely be a good use of your time. If you feel up to it, move up to a moderate weight after a bit and practice with that, but only if your technique is solid as you increase the weight.
Standby, the military times rag has printed another story about "military doctors" sounding the alarm about CrossFit and Rhabdo. I cant find the story online or otherwise I would have posted a link.
I do have the print edition in my hands and it has some great A&P knowledge in it such as people with rhabdo need IVs to help flush out lactic acid days after the exercise has ended!! Thanks Andrew Tilghman...

I agree with number 3, not cool at all.
I remember someone saying that when they workout, they train like they're preparing for a fight. Well, just two days ago, my home was burglarized, so now this motto means even more to me. I wasn't home when the break in occurred (nor was my wife or son, thank God), but I'm preparing for anything. I've been Crossfitting since December, so I'm still relatively new, but I feel stronger than I ever have before. Now, I'm going into each workout with new motivation.

I don't normally post but there is something bothering me regarding crossfit. First let me say I have been doing crossfit since June 2008. I even did crossfit (a scaled version) while I was pregnant. I am a certified level 1 crossfit trainer and a professional firefighter. With that being said, I have seen the difference crossfit has made in my life and other's lives, including my husband who is also a professional firefighter. Crossfit has helped us be able to perform our jobs so much better.
So, now the problem! Why are all these people who don't participate in crossfit downing it? I read comments and see where people are posting that our military and colleges are trying or actually stopping people from doing crossfit. My husband looked up crossfit on urban dictionary last night (i don't know why) and it is horrible, until you get to the last definition. I am in the best shape of my life...thanks to crossfit. I look forward to the workouts and to training others in crossfit. Thank you crossfit for changing my life and helping me to be able to perform my job better, which in return will help me to be able to save many more lives.

To #37: I wouldn't worry about sites like Urban Dictionary, it's a humorous website more than anything. As for xfit, some people will like it, others won't, it depends what they are looking for.
You enjoy it and it's a part of your life, and that's what is important.

Is anyone else having trouble with the live stream? It seems to be freezing up every 10 secs or so....
Hey everyone. I know it just started but is anyone else having issues watching the live stream of the Crossfit/Weightlifting competition? Mine seems to stream for about 2 seconds and then stops for about 2 seconds then repeats. Quality is also very bad. My internet speed is definitely fast enough so that isnt the issue.
this feed sucks.
Yes having issues.
It seems that the live feed is not nearly as good as it was for the games. Oh well.
same problem with the live stream. can't be the internet connection, currently at my law school (skipping all three classes to watch this.)
bad image and skips repeatedly.
Same problems here, freezing makes it impossible to watch. Dang, was kinda waiting for this one..
I thought the glitchy stream was just me, I guess I am not the only one. I will attempt this workout today. Hopefully i can hit some PRs
same problem here...lots of skipping
I hope they fix the live stream.....it keeps stopping every 10 seconds or so and then it plays really fast. I can always watch the archives too.
mine won't even start even though I installed the flash player.
Too bad the live stream does not work. I was looking forward to this.
Wasn't able to do today's WOD (will do that tomorrow), but did make up yesterday's "Ryan" (see details there...I put the 12" burpee jump debate to rest by finishing each burpee with a 24" box jump, or boxees as I like to call them)
Can I watch the event from my iphone? I watched the games, but this time I'm not getting the option?
#50
Yeah, mines not starting now either. Im guessing that they realized there was a problem and its been shut off to be fixed. At least thats what Im hoping...
Best we can do is keep checking and hope it comes on.
I'm having problems with the live stream too! UGHHHH. It is annoying to watch only a couple of seconds and have it freeze.
It keeps telling me the server isn't found...frustrating

Didn't do this one very well as others at the gym were not cooperating with the equipment I needed. Dang it. Not working out at a Crossfit gym. Had to do several rounds out of order until equipment opened. Ended up just doing four rounds, not worried about the time.
yeah i really wanted to watch this webcast and we were all gonna get together and watch it but this is horrible what the heck. After how well the games was broadcast you would think this would be no problem but what the heck man. Speal just came up on the platform and it froze for his whole lift and then it froze during the whole replay and all the video is like extra fast or something to make up for the lag...would be nice to watch this streeeeeaming

Horrible stream. I've done everything to upgrade like I did for the game and still no better. What happened? Ya'll should be a lot better than this!
Looking forward at this point to watching the archived stream footage. Minus the lag/jerks. Sidenote- are we Crossfitters as insecure as is represented by the overwhelming number of t-shirts under singlets? Holy Crap it looks tacky. I loved Matt Chan's comment that he wants to wear the neon green thong from Borat.....and I actually think he has the balls to do it....no pun intended haha.

- Snatches did not feel good...need to practice more than once every two months! Even though my weight didn't go up, I actually did them correctly and with a full ROM this time unlike last
- C/J felt okay and prob could have done a lot more weight but gym was crowded and there were a lot of gawkers so didn't feel comfortable with prospect of dumping a lift
- During rounds, I used 95 lbs (vs 65lbs last time) so even though my rounds stayed at 3, it was a lot more output
- Overall, not happy with effort, but I guess it compared okay with same 2 months ago. I have to keep in mind that I did "Ryan" only a few hours ago!

I've been CF'ing for about 2 years, I fell off the wagon the last few months but now I am back in full force. Long story short I've decided to go vegetarian to help show a few people that you can be competitive and see great results without eating meat. Before anyone disputes anything it IS entirely possible to get all your complete proteins, aminos, vitamins, and minerals on a vegetarian diet. Just wondering if there is anyone else out there doing this as a vegetarian. THANKS

@120 KS
I have been a CrossFitter for over 5 years. I have been a vegetarian for the past year. I have not lost weight or strength in this past year. I have continued to improve in power and strength. My weight has stayed a constant 165lbs (give or take 2lbs). I am still approximatley 9.6% body fat which I check roughly once a month. I have not had any health problems either.
My reasons for going vegetarian are two fold. One, my wife is a vegan and it just became too hard to cook two meals every day especially since we are both in the Army and time is precious. Two, after reading a few books on the current food situation in America and researching the problems with modern agriculture I felt that it is the healthiest choice for me until I can raise my own livestock.
I would be considered an ovo-vegetarian. The eggs I buy are from a local egg farmer in North Carolina that free ranges his chickens. I do not eat/drink dairy products except for the dairy derived whey protein I take as a workout supplement. I agree with you in that all the vitamins, minerals, proteins and fats can be plant derived. You have to eat smart and know where your food is coming from and what contains what.
I hope this helps.

#120 & #131: I have been a vegetarian for 15 1/2 years and doing crossfit since June 2008. With the exception of pregnancy, I have actually become stronger and in better health then doing the usual globo-gym stuff. Since giving birth last September 10' I have pretty much become a vegan with the exception of eating eggs, honey, and whey protein powder. I have became stronger and lost all my pregnancy weight and then some while building muscle. It can be a fine line but it can be accomplished. Jason, I see you said you were from NC. Are you at Fort Bragg? My husband and I live near Charlotte. Looks like we share a lot of the same diet.

@139 Jody,
That is about the exact same diet my wife is on. She eats eggs very rarely, but she does eat honey. She has found that it is the most satisfying and healthy diet for her. She is an excellent cook and she makes some vegan dishes that would blow your mind. I am extremely impressed with how well she does at restaurants when we go out to eat. She picks and chooses wisely and makes all of her decisions beforehand. I consume eggs just about everyday in various forms. We aren't dairy consumers though. I haven't had milk in years. I have found the choice to become a vegetarian easier now that grocers are offering better produce and a larger variety. The Commissary on post is very well stocked and the organic section is massive.
Yes, I am stationed at Fort Bragg. Have been for about 7 years now. I plan on retiring from Bragg, about 7 years left. Currently I am deployed for the nth time. But this rotation is coming to a close soon. We have some good friends that live in Charlotte, well up in Denver actually right next to Lake Norman. We get out there about once a month. I really like the Charlotte area. It caters very well to outdoor lifestyle and I really like Andy Hendel's CrossFit Charlotte. Such a great guy and gym.

I have been vegetarian for over five years now, and crossfitting for one and a half years. I have seen steady increases in power, speed and strength. My recovery time is also no different than some of the carnivores I train with.
There is an old book called "Diet for a Small Planet," by Francis Moore Lapee, which is a good resource for finding complimentary proteins; that is, paired foods that give the body all of the essential amino acids. I would also recommened "Omnivore's Dilema," and "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle," to anyone who wants a good read on food and food systems.
I'm so happy to see that there are other crossfitting vegetarians!

Jody,
Don't know if you'll come back to read this comment, but I want to assure you and everyone else that the military establishment is not as negative on crossfit as I have seen alluded to recently in many comments. I am a Marine, Level 1 certified, and I have been doing crossfit for nearly a year. In the course of that year, I have been a crossfit evangelist, and every single person I have introduced to the programming has been born again hard. Crossfit is not endorsed by the DOD officially, but nearly every Marine Corps base has an active crossfit affiliate equipped by the same organization that provides typical athletic equipment for the base gym and many base gyms have been reorganized to accomodate crossfitters.
Giving audience to the critics is like listening to Rush Limbaugh or Rachel Maddow. They only serve to piss everyone off by distorting facts and taking things out of context. My wife has been doing crossfit with me since Feb 2010 and I would challenge the criticism by her example. With proper coaching and scaling, let me show you a 38 year old mother of 5 with a flat stomach who can pick up any of our kids, throw them over her shoulder and run laps around the doctors who think crossfit is dangerous.
Rescue,
Thanks so much for the information. That makes me feel alot better!!! I just know how great of a program it is and I hate to see it have such negativity placed on it. I really, really appreciate the info. And that is great with your wife! I am sure she is a role model for several women!

Barely made 115lb snatch. I've done this weight before easily but My arms and shoulders are so tore down from the past several wods that I couldn't go on for fear of tendonitis or injury. Same with the C&J. I did 135lb which is no struggle but the ensuing tendon pain throughout my arms was enough to make me stop and not do the rest of the wod. This should go away in a day or two. My left hip joint is feeling a bit better after this week. Should be good in about 7-14 more days. Still can't squat well due to pain when I "shove my knees out" in the squat. I think I should scale back weight on the wods for a while. My body is not quite ready for the repeated hammering the wods bring through their Rx'd weights. I'm just a tender little guy. Gotta let these tendons cool off.

I weigh alot less but my capacity is also down, not necessarily what I want. Think I'm a little dehydrated also.

This was okay...I wasn't very focused, and my form wasn't very good. My body felt tired and sore. I'll (hopefully) do much better next time.

Snatch - 165-PR. Used wider grip. O/S of hands only 1/2" from end of bar. Seemed to really help.
C&J - 205-PR. Clean good. Jerk not. Decent dip & drive, but poor catch.
165+205=370/2.2=168.18 + 153 reps in triplet=321.18.
Outside chance I miscounted rounds & got 4 plus the 6SC, 12PU & 9DU, but probably not. So, went w/three completed rounds.
8/4/10:
Snatch - 155 went up pretty easy, but failed at 160.
C&J - 200. Jerk surprisingly easy. Slight split
160+200=360/2.2 = 163.64 + 164 reps in triplet=327.64
