RIP, Jack.

My CrossFit/USAW Open prep is complete. 4 days till Colorado Springs! I'll be in the 85kg class.

Hard living and an active competitive lifestyle left me with Left shoulder SLAP repair in FEB 2009, Right shoulder SLAP repair in JUN 2009, and Right Gluteus Medius reattachment in DEC 2009.

I Snatched 80kg and C&J'ed 102.5kg yesterday, both are post-surgeries PRs, and combined are 10 kg away from my total PR of 192.5kg (82.5 and 110). I think can say I'm just about recovered from those 3 surgeries!

Unfortunately, I guess I have to be the first to say. RIP and God Bless SSG Martin, your sacrifice is far more important to honor than our trivial day to day problems.

Stacey~ you absolutely went nuts on that WOD! I thought I did really well at 80#, 1 pood, and 24" and you made me look like I sat on my rear for half the WOD with your weight loads...WAY TO GO GIRL!!

RIP SSgt Martin. Looking forward to hitting this WOD hard tomorrow in your honor.

Gonna be 50lb DB Push presses and 50lb Kettlebell swings for me (such are the limitations when working out from home). Btw, I am absolutely loving my 24" plyo box, best investment ever! Throw a black sheet over it and it makes a really nice end table which can hide quite a bit of CrossFit gear.

@ #15 if you don't have a KB you can use dumbbell. I will have to remember this WOD for after the mother of all blisters on my heel gets better

It is always hard to read about a fallen hero the first time a new hero WOD appears on the main site.

This one is especially tough.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Ashley, Jack, Cheryl, Abe, Mandi, Amber and Abi. Jack will not be forgotten and he will be remembered fondly here. I am truly sorry for your loss and I am humbled by his sacrifice.

De Oppresso Liber and may God be with you and your family, Jack. It gives me the chills every time we honor one of our own. Even though I deal with a few trivial issues daily much like everyone else, this gives me the motivation to be a part of something much larger than myself. No matter how I feel tomorrow, I'm definitely doing this WOD in place of the one I put together. A song that I have in my head at the moment is "Civil War" by Guns N Roses.

It always touches me to see the photos of the fallen. The WOD seems so inconsequential in light of the sacrifice. My boy is a Marine, and I never want to have to dedicate a WOD to him. There are far too many already...

Push presses challenged my abs more than anything else. I had to break them up before the working musculature failed because I couldn't keep my back from overextending.
I still cannot string those box jumps together, but I found out that it's way more effective to rest on top of the box rather than on the ground (rest on top, jump down and up again using the muscles "rebound").

115 pound Push press, 10 reps
10 KB Swings, 1.5 pood Scaled to 1 pood
10 Box jumps, 24 inch box Scaled to 22in

Scaled because of lack of equipment

8rounds 3 PP.

I was on track for 10 rounds and dropped the bar on the 5th round on rep 6. I lost that round and I guess I got a bot slowere after that to loose the 9th round.
Still good work out. Real happy that I only broke 1 set of PP.

The jury is in for me... I was challenged recently by an endurance athlete to complete a marathon in under 4:45 using only the crossfit main site workouts (the challenge was four days before the marathon). I have not run past 6 miles in the past 10 years but finally trusted the fitness of the program to take me through.

The result 4:29:40 with 0 Long Training Runs!

The race was on Sunday and I did "Fight Gone Bad" yesterday so I am fully recovered already... As if it has not been said enought - Crossfit is the definition of fitness.

#8 Kim, I'm appreciating your times and trying to keep up. Didn't quite make it today. Those PP's are not my strong suit.

8 rounds plus 10 PP and 4 KB swings.

80# Push Press 10 reps

Must improve on those presses. Not sure if it is strength or technique I am failing from.

The following is general advice and is not to be construed as medical advice or prescription:

Localized over-use muscle trauma. Watch carefully for compartment syndrome (escalating pain, numbness in fingers, etc). Watch your urine carefully. Hydrate.

These WOD's always hit me a lot harder than I think they're going to.

9 rounds today - which seemed unacceptable to honor this Hero so I rounded it out to 10.

Have to push through the fatigue, felt like I was sucking all the air out of the room.

Comment #147 - Posted by: NateDog at September 29, 2010 12:31 PM

8 solid rounds, with decent push presses - and not jerks, which are always tempting when things get dicey, and with a 62 pound kettlebell

It was definitely brutal, but the comparatively short sets made for good practice at keeping mentally focused and reaching goals.

Since when are our boys being murdered by Philippino cowards? Did the post say,"died September 29th, 2009, in Jolo Island, Philippines, from the detonation of an improvised explosive device." Are there Islamic terrorists in the Philippines too?
Is there a new front not reported in the news? Where else are our finest young men and women being targeted? I suppose we need to all wake up and put our strength to use. Let them post hero wods for a change.

My Back!!!

I've been doing Crossfit for 6 months, and haven't had any low back problems until this morning.

I'm sure that two things hurt me. 1) No warm-up. It sounds stupid when I say that, but I didn't have time to warm up (honest). 2) I'm sure I arched on the Push-Presses and lost support in my lower back.

6 rounds, but I stopped at 15 minutes.

Chad 95 lbs/ 20 kg/24" box = 7 1/3 rnds
Art 65 lbs/ 16 kg/ 20" box = 10
Matt Rx.d = 8

HR data: Chad at 170 bpm when complete.

Matt: Avg HR was 76% range 81%-42%.
Calories = 400
Resting HR at end 160-100= 60.
Rnd splits and % of mar HR were:
1- 1.28 66% limiting factor for me was the PP, only got 8 each time except
for first and last set.
2- 2.04 76
3- 2.11 77
4- 2.39 76
5- 2.59 76
6- 2.51 76
7- 2.50 77
8- 2.17 79

All in all a great day folks, well done. Art had little sleep with car issues

As Rx: 5 full rounds then I did another 2 full rounds with only using 95 lbs for the push press. My KB swings were all unbroken and felt good, and the box jumps were just something to trudge through. I felt the 115# push press really in my wrists. I was holding it lower than ususal in the front, but it was not hurting my wrist since I was holding the bar in a more regualr grip, and getting good transfer most of the time. I was doign 4, 4, 2 for most of my higher weight PPs. This was a good WOD. For me 115# is a little heavy for repeat 10 reps... that was by far the longest time spent and took the most out of me. Good to work on my weakness I guess.

36yom / 190lbs

Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
80# Push press, 10 reps
10 35# Dumbbell swings
10 Box jumps, 24 inch box

8 rounds + 10 Push press + 2 box jumps

This was killer, but I kept moving throughout. The push presses gave bloody bruises on both shoulders. Ouch.

Whole body got into this one! HEAVY push presses and only to get the wind knocked out by swings = so awesome, never felt so alive

As rx'd, 10 rounds + 10 push press.

Well that turned into a suckfest pretty quick. Push press was the hardest - 115 is a pretty decent weight for me. I may have accidentally jerked a couple of these (left the ground) in later rounds; I also had a couple failed reps. These were unbroken through round 6. Swings started getting tough in later rounds - my grip was really fatiguing. Box jumps not bad, but kept the heart rate jacked. I haven't done a 20-minute AMRAP for over a month. For the record, I hate them.

Goal is at least 12 rounds. I just need to push harder (literally) through the Push Press.
