"Fight Gone Bad!"

Three rounds of:
Wall-ball, 20 pound ball, 10 ft target (Reps)
Sumo deadlift high-pull, 75 pounds (Reps)
Box Jump, 20" box (Reps)
Push-press, 75 pounds (Reps)
Row (Calories)

In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute.The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. On call of "rotate", the athletes must move to next station immediately for best score. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower where each calorie is one point.

I don't recall seeing Rowers in my new gym. should I sub 45# SDHP? How would I accurately count reps into calories? 10 reps per calorie?

#3 and #4 as there are already SDHP in the workout I typically sub in burpees. Its a pretty brutal sub and gets the job done...

Angela Hart, thank you for amazing coaching at the rowing cert, sep 5 . I came back to the gym and was able to translate to fellow crossfitters. Lots of prs!

My last fight gone bad was 265. the calories VERY low. I will take all that I learned and apply. hoping to bump it up 20 - 30. Goal is 300+.

I use 2 POOD KB swings when I don't have access to a rower. Compares reasonably to a row/calorie count.

We all know 10 seconds into a WOD you have no idea what music is on. These two were way more focused on crushing it than what ballad was playing.

Pretty sure those box jumps count... he goes into full extention in the air which I believe is acceptable. (now the deadlifts from a few wods ago.. thats a different story)

We counted all reps for them and some did not count. They both hit hip extension at some point in all of the box jumps.

I'm curious about today's video of Holmberg doing burpees. In his version he drops his knees/thighs to the floor on the way down, then does a 'girl' pushup, leaving his thighs on the floor to straighten his arms on the way up, before lifting his knees from the floor. Is this considered correct burpee form? I always thought it was supposed to involve a strict pushup (i.e. only toes and hands touch the floor, with rigid body).

Thoughts?

Al, I agree. When I do burpees I aim for the strict push up position. Even has I get tired in the high reps, I still don't use my knees. I may not leave Mother Earth as much as I would like, but I am only human.

3 months into CF - 45# for SDHP and PP. 12# wall ball and first time using 20" box in a WOD (had been doing 14") 163 - PR by about 45 (and that time I was using the 12" box and 8# wall ball)!!! Aiming for 180 next time and eventually 200+. Awesome job everyone! I can't even wrap my head around 400+

I'd say my biggest issue with this was the fact that I work out in a huge box (McComas) and it took me almost a minute to get to the rowers from the shoulder press. So I got some blown up numbers due to intermittent rests. 409 w/ scaled lifts

That rower will pound you after a late night.

Been doing CF for about a year now and somehow never did FGB, I guess between days I got lazy and took off I just missed it.

Anyways...16# ball (heaviest one at my gym). everything else as rx'd.

Did this at CF Providence in RI...Great group today! Based on a bet I made with the folks I went to for support, I hit this WOD twice. In a kilt both times, the second time with a 20lb vest. Why a kilt? I told my donors if I reached $1000 I would let them pick my outfit, I then told them if I made it to $5000 I would do it twice in a vest. Well worth the pain for a great cause. Today, I gave 34 minutes and was happy to do it.

122.. what position is your lever in on the C2? I typically have my C2 at level 8; also I try to keep the row count around 22 and get as long a pull as possible. Start hard with your legs and build power as you pull the handle towards your chest. Try to be smooth but explosive.

Thanx for the tips. I usually have it set to 4 or 5 and try to keep my rep count around 30. I pull like a "you know what" and have even had some rowers critique and yweak my form but my calorie count is right around 10-12. I'll give it a go tomorrow with the damper set at 8 and see what happens. Thanks again.

Reference the comments about Graham's form on the burpees. They are legit. Technique also known as "the flop"! Its fast and effective but can actually be harder than the stricter form burpees. I often change to strict form as I tire.

I was impressed to see our small CF gym raise over $9000 for FGB 5. We had less than 40 competitors. Judgeing was very strict and people said their scores averaged 50 points or more less than their PR. A lot of "no rep" calls. I was 26 off my PR but it was cool to focus on the standards. I was really glad to see CF do this fundraiser. I got to speek to a wounded soldier and was blown away by his story. Thanks.

I went into this telling myself to pace myself. I didnt. Next time - take it easier on the first round!!

I invented a new sub. Instead of "normal" (yeah right) 20lb wall ball shots - I created "interactive tree ball shots". Pick a large, overgrown knot on an oak tree at 10'. Launch your 20lb ball (ball should be homemade and lumpy) at said knot. The tree will actually throw the ball back in unpredictable directions. Dont forget to have really sandy uneven ground with roots sticking out while you try to catch the 20lb hurtling off-axis lumpy object.

I also recommend stacking a large amount of bricks to get to your 20" box jumps. Remember to rerack the bricks every 10 or so jumps to avoid twisting ankles.

New PR by 22 points! Ecstatic! I'll have to compare the numbers, but I think the box jumps are what put me ahead. They seemed so easy today. I think all the running in VFF, double-unders work, and 24" box jumps this summer had something to do with that. My transition into the erg row could have been faster. So those numbers are down. But I needed the extra gasps for air.

PR on FGB of 375 rxd (16# wall ball 10' target) thinking I can do better though. My medball was horrible and made my wall ball shots difficult. The weight was uneven on its inside and made it wobble all over the place. Should be looking at 400 very soon. Lots of fun!

#122 rowing calories are dependent on amount of power in the stroke. Bigger athletes will do the best. If you are small then it is much harder to burn calories as fast as the big people. On the other hand you should have an edge in box jumps.

517.....Give me a break. Don't even bother posting this kind of score without video. Not video like the Austin video either. Show the body so we can see ROM. anyone who has done a legit FGB Event knows that ROM on both Box Jumps and the press needs to be watched carefully. A lot of people have a tendency to press out with knees bent like dropping under a jerk when they go fast.

So, I guess there is always going to be the guys that want to post a high score and cheat the spirit of the WOD by cutting the ROM.

Guarantee the high scores also counted for themselves. Also bogus when you claim to break the World Record.

Did waaay better this time! Last was 359 so I saw a 50 point improvement! My first two rounds were better than all 3 of my rounds last time. I ended up taking slightly longer rest between rounds because I was grabbing water so that will have played slightly into recovery but I'm just sooooo glad I broke that elusive 400! I also figure since my wallball is heavier I'm allowed to have a little leeway on the rest.
