Keith Adam Coe, 30, of Auburndale, Fla., assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., died April 27th, 2010, in Khalis, Iraq, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an explosive device. He is survived by his wife Katrina Coe, two sons, Killian and Keith Jr., and daughter, Klover.

#16...I don't have access to rings yet either but I'm going to TRY doing push-ups with a basketball or a medium-sized medicine ball under each hand and see how that goes as a substitute.

Insure you're getting the proper rest. High intensity of CF without proper rest will wear you out and open yourself up to illness and injury. Work, rest and nutrition. Three-legged chair. Weaken one, over you go.
Looks easy... for those that don't have a clue. 100 reps, 95 pounds- yup, that's 9,500 pounds moving say about 3 feet +- or about 28,500 ft-lbs of work (work is force times distance) and 100 pushups to boot. Don't care how you break it up- just another crazy crossfit challenge. Thanks for keeping it interesting.
If I make it 10 rounds as prescribed I will call it a success no matter what the time is. The posted crossfit superstar times are insane. That's why they are elite. You have my admiration.

I really wanted to attempt this workout without scaling the weight and without breaking into subsets, so I did 10 reps or max reps (which ever came first). No rings, so subbed pushups on 8" rigid medicine balls.

cbarreri: I agree with you, and we should all be anti-imperialist and inherently anti-war. That's a different issue than Coe and his legacy. Coe didn't ask to go to war. People say it's a volunteer Army, but you only volunteer so far and then you're told what to do from then on. And Coe did his duty to the fullest. The fact that the war he gave his life in has questionable merit doesn't take anything away from him - in fact, it makes me admire him all the more. Coe gave his life in a situation where most people would run the other way. Giving your life in an epic war against unbridled evil is easier than in a murky conflict in which there's no clear victory and "civilians" shoot at you when your back is turned - and it's still never easy.
In war, sometimes you are given a real dilemma - life, honor, pick one. Coe picked honor, and so he is a true hero. May God grant him the peace he strove for in life, and let's all remember his sacrifice, regardless of our political affiliations. And yes, let's try to make sure we reduce the rate of new hero WODs, too.

Well, my legs were just starting to feel *almost* normal today from the squat/lunge/burpee AMRAP on Monday. So why not 100 thrusters? Thrusters unbroken for 5 rounds. Thereafter, broke them 6-4. First time doing real ring push-ups, and it showed. I started fatiguing quickly on these - only unbroken round was the first one. Lots of singles at the end. Triceps and chest fried after this.

Does anyone else find barbell thrusters really hard on the shoulders? I find that if I use a front squat grip (wrists bent backwards), the press part wrecks the wrist and if I try to hold the bar more in my hands, the front squats suffer and the shoulders are out of commission for at least a week.

A few points:
1) cbarreri's original post was deleted, so there are a bunch of responses to a post which is absent, which takes away from the discussion, and leaves those of us who come in late in the dark.
2) It seems to me that, even though the original post may have been disrespectful (which is not clear, since it has disappeared), it elicited agreements and disagreements, and an opportunity for people to voice their opinions, which is a positive thing. But what we have now are responses to an absent post.
3) If HQ is going to memorialize soldiers engaged in wars which a great number of people disagree with, wouldn't it be wise to warn their families that there may be some who would voice their outrage, rather than censoring them.
4) Hero WoD suggestion: I would like to see a hero WoD for someone who does not work for the state, or for the industrial military complex. How about that girl who was raped by American soldiers in the Mahmudiyah killings? How about someone who died fighting violence with love, deeds and words, rather than guns and bombs?
5) In war the ends are never certain, but the means always are, and the means are death of innocent people. And, "There is no flag large enough to cover the shame of killing innocent people."

I do not in any way represent Crossfit as a corporation. The thoughts below are my own and I am open to anyone pointing out any mistakes I may make.
Please feel free to e-mail any response to me personally if you would like. I would like to address some of your concerns:
First, the Hero WODs are often for those killed in war but I can bring to mind ones for firefighters and policemen killed in the line of duty as well. However, the reason such ones as this are honored here are because ( I assume in every case) they are part of the Crossfit community and this "style" or approach to fitness owes most of its existence to historic attempts to get soldiers, firefighters, policemen, SWAT and other specialized groups into the best shape possible to deal with the rigors of their jobs in the best way.
God forbid, but if someone that is a well-known Crossfit champion or personality in the Crossfit culture were to meet an untimely end, I dare to speculate they would be honored here as well.
It seems from your post #299 that you don't object to the Hero WODs but you wish it were not exclusive to military or other groups I have mentioned above. Petition those in control of this and ask them to address your concerns. That is your right. I respect your views on war and senseless killings of innocents. We could really get into a whole other discussion about that, but I don't want to presume too much about your opinions regarding the just use of force by nations threatened by outside powers.
Let me say this and I will stop: War is indeed horrible and brings out the worst in humanity. Even a cursory study of the history of war can show you one thing- No nation ever in history has fought war in a more responsible and just manner than the United States. About that, I will suffer no other opinions. Thank you and train hard.

I have two times up because I thought I did 10 rounds then I hit stop on my watch and noticed it said lap 9. I was like crap Iam pretty sure that was lap 10 and I must didnt hit the lap button one time, so instead of cheating myself I did one more round. Oh, my 25# Pendlay bumpers steel inserts are already starting to fail, this sucks because I only had them for about 2 weeks. I emailed muscle driver to see whats up but if they cant do anything I dont wont to waste anymore money on a sketchy product so I will go with Rogues Hi temp bumper set for about $436 with 2 45s, 35s, 25s, 15s, and 10s. Ive heard nothing but good things, extremly durable and able to use outdoors no problem. Thats good, cuz once my bar comes I will be training outdoors most of the time anyway if my limited equipment allows it, then its back to the base globo gym, uuhh.

Scaled to 75 lb Thrusters and used med balls to do pushups on:

got so excited about using my new rings that i did ring dips instead of ring push ups. duh! couldn't do 10x10 out right though:
set 1 - 10 ring dips, 0 frame dips,
set 2 - 9 ring dips, 1 frame dip,
set 3 - 8 ring dips, 2 frame dips...
ring dips were generally broken in 1's and 2's for first few rounds, frame dips were unbroken. started to get the hang of the ring dips.

Been wanting to do this WOD for a long time. My goal was to get all the push-ups unbroken and to (if I had to) break up the thrusters no more than two sets per round. Was able to get 16:30 RX'd :)
