does anybody know of any crossfit in Guam? possibly military?
Thanks for posting the WOD demo!
To my mind, that WOD Demo video by CrossFit Again Faster is the best ad I've seen posted on this site in the last two weeks.
Just the product, no talking.
I remember back in the late 80s when Nike had a number of good ads- people running, sprinting, jumping etc and a single caption "Just Do it". You might say the were (sorry) "inspirational". Then they started adding 30 words of "meaning", then a paragraph of "meaning". Predictably, the meaning was out of all proportion to the activity and the product. Granted CrossFit as a product is very different from a shoe, and crossfit can and has changed lives whereas an air-max is something a person wears on her feet as she is doing the thing that is life-changing....so CrossFit can justifiably include the "meaning" narration/text (whatever) in its ads, but I don't think anyone ever benefitted from reading or being told about a wod. The benefit is the doing. Stay focussed on the doing. The more you say the more likely it is you will say something that doesn't ring true (the irony is not lost on me).
Anyway, love CrossFit. The games were truly great.

I think the hair looks awesome, and I look forward to behind the scenes footage your puting together for this years games. I think that your video contributions are one of the best things about crossfit. Please keep them coming. Thanks.
watch the wod demo by rob orlando. Eminem kills it
cant do 135 lb thruster. should i sub 135 lb clean and jerk or 95 lb squat clean thruster? thanks yall
SEVAN: i'm obsessed with your body. you know, in regards to your hair, of course. i knew castro would cave. he's all talk.
REALLY love the 'what is crossfit' commercial. real people showing the day to day of what we're all about. really well done.
Patrick: i have NO idea how you put something like that together in a day. way cool vid...great angles. you're amazing!
Stan #11 - lose the ego and drop the weight to something more manageable for your current fitness level.
It's called 'scaling'
@Sevan
The hair is epic badassedness. Keep it.
Whats the difference between a squat clean thruster and a squat clean to press?
eamon #12
Squat clean to press has a pause in the middle (i.e. after standing up from the squat clean, pause before pressing the bar overhead). the squat clean thruster is an unbroken movement
Sevan...Keep the hair!!!!! Love all your videos, can't wait to see what you're putting together! Take Care!

Great vids! The CFNE WOD Demo vid was rediccc! so inspiring! and umm this WOD is a masterpiece. Should be "named", if not already.
Cheers.
Loved the song in the WOD demo. Had to go and download the album. Kudos.
Gen,
You do not speak for everyone. Did you miss the free HD stream of the games? CFJ is doing a killer job.
The again faster WOD video is awesome! Great job Patrick!
biggest problem I have in this exercise is wrist flexibility. Weight isn't a problem... it's that whenever I do cleans I don't have a solid enough grip on the bar to follow with a fluid thruster movement. I have to pause and adjust.

First round didn't feel too bad at all. After that I was glad I had scaled the squat clean thrusters to 115#, otherwise this WOD would have included a lot of "staring at the bar" time.
Pre workout peak flow reading was 550 (normal for me), but my breathing still feels inhibited.

@Religion: I am an atheist ;)
WOD Demo music was excellent! Thanks for the website at the end!
As for the commercial it was great, except for the religion comment at the end. I wonder what peoples definition of religion is these days...? To define crossfit as such has nothing to do with the supernatural or any life beyond earth. I am interested in what the guy in the video meant by this.
Comment 42 - I disagree that religion and crossfit are emotions...which is perhaps where the interesting use of this noun is coming from.

looking forward to this one, I might put in my head all in one second back straight, bar touch the chins, grap the bar and go! once at the bottom of the squat clean, think about hip power and thrust the SH@t out of that weight!, rather to think than it is almost my body weight. hopefully beat some of the times up there. :)

My girlfriend worked to her first pullup using a combination of bands and negatives with a grease the groove approach. She had the hardest time with the bottom 3rd of the movement. Starting at the top of the movement, dropping down and using a stretch reflex at the bottom allowed her to use some momentum to move through that sticking point. Using that consistently, everytime she encountered a pullup bar, allowed her to develop the str needed to do a static PU. She used bands in her workouts separate from the negative approach. Hope this helps

Exhausted from this week of training. Thought I would go to gym and do a couple sets of this WOD. Focused on form and explosision on ea. rep over going for time. Finished all 5 rounds. When I was bodybuilding I felt that squat was the best overall excercise. When I started CF, my opinion changed to thrusters. Now I love the squat clean thrusters. Can't think of a better overall excersice than that!
Sunday musings (from Cape Cod)...
1) Armageddon. "Armageddon was yesterday. Today we have a problem." I like this. Reminds me of a CF t-shirt: "The only easy WOD was yesterday."
2) Family. Clan bingo has joined the rest of the White family for the 19th consecutive time on Cape Cod. The whole fam damily. Do you do this? Get together with your siblings and your parents and the various and sundry cousins?
Over the course of the first 2 or 3 days those in my generation will revert to our traditional family roles with all of the attendant pathology. Happens every year. We'll chafe and burn under the bright hot light of everyone's active spectating of our parenting, businesses, social status, whatever.
Bottom line, though? Despite all of the drama, etc that is sure to crop up this is really an extraordinary achievement, a testimony to my folks Grambingo and Grampbingo and our respective spouses. I'll hate the middle of the week as I always do, but I'll love the beginning and the end.
And I'll keep going back.
3) The Journey. "Go where you WANT to be; you can always circle back to where you HAVE to be." I think I've used this quote before, but it's come up already this weekend as several nephews discuss their upcoming freshman years in college (Lil'bingo and two of his cousins will start college soon).
This, I find, is a little different take on my "want vs. need" theme, the difference between the things and stuff we want or need theme that I've beaten repeatedly here and elsewhere. No, this is more like that Zen-like question Mrs. Bingo and I have faced these last several years: would you rather be happy or rich? Once your needs are covered this is a rather key question, eh?
While counseling my nephews and my son I've gently tried to guide them along the early parts of their journey by encouraging them to use these themes as a roadmap or sorts. When Mrs. Bingo and I were posed the "happy/rich" question we chose happy, at least this most recent time (FWIW we had NO idea how UN-wealthy it would make us!), and it was an unbelievably correct call.
But it's kinda tough to get that message across to the next generation, what with all of their BMW this and mansion that friends with whom they compare themselves, compare us. Will a history major get me that convertible? Can I afford to fly first class if I'm a teacher? What if I want to live where I can ski?
It's funny, really, that it took less of lots of stuff to get to both the place I wanted to be and the place I needed to be. I got there in my late 40's, and frankly I got to a place where I could appreciate it by meeting people who hang out here, people who now make their living in or around Crossfit. How cool would it be if I could help the "Three Musketeers" to get on that path, the path to where they WANT to be, at age 18 or so.
Then again, how would they know with any guidance but their own?
I'll see you next week...

so close to some of the times upthere. :) any way nice WOD, I felt apart on round 3, Everything was going good until round 3, actually I was under the 5 minute pace until that round 3, Atleast I know I am doing the thrusters right to full ROM, in round 3 I hit my jaw when i was on the second thruster, a little pain right now in my jaw, but nothing bad to worry. LOL! funny but true, also in round 5 forgot the count and did 6 squat cleans instead of 5, confirm by a camera some one was recording while doing the WOD. any way nice WOD, I have to learn to keep pushing it and get over the mental part of being tired, one thing is to be tired but keep going, the other thing is not being able to keep going because you phisically can't, mind over comes always. tips and advice on how to overcome pain mentally will be appriciated.

i do have a question to everyone though, i mean i love crossfit and think its great but why do people kip on pullups in crossfit, its not very good practise you get a lot more out of doing strict pullups, and just seems stupid form and bad to kip.
i mean when you do bench press you dont twist your body and pull your knee ups to get the bar up you do it strict form to get the most out of it so why do it for pullups.
that said i still love crossfit

I used 115 lbs and with the two piece split pullup bar that I used, I had to just pull like I was going to hit my chest and look at where my hands were to see if I would have hit.
I did NOT use a clock.. I looked at the clock and I was about 11 minutes or so. I was concentrating more on form and good intensity than looking at the exact time. I liked it. I actually was surprised at how I didn't go more in a row for the pullups. I was usually doing 6-7 and then 4 or 3 to finish.
The squat clean thruster is nice. I did them all as singles and reset. I think I should have gone with the 135 lbs now, but I have been sporadic over the past few weeks and my intensity and drive just has been missing someswhat... just kind of working on form and trying to maintain some decent level of intensity.
Nice WOD

Fast and heavy. First round unbroken, in just under a minute. Afterwards, very broken. After round 1, dropped most reps at the top of the thruster rather than lowering. Chest to bar pullups in 4's and 5's, singles at the end. These are getting better. I was happy that I didn't crash and burn on this one - rounds 2 through 5 were all around 90 seconds.

After all the snatch practice I did before Isabel the other day, my cleans felt very solid. I did this workout on 8/3/10 (Tuesday). I need to push myself to fight through the time spent transitioning. The faster I can go right into the next exercise, the faster my times will be. This was my first workout since last Wednesday, and I'm also nursing my foot (turf toe) injury. I need to figure out how to rehab it and stay in shape because I'm being told I need to wear a boot for at least a month. Blast!
Scaled the squat cleans to 85 lbs. and used a gravitron machine for the pull-ups. I definitely am getting stronger since I only needed 70 lbs. of assistance for the first 4 rounds and then used 85 lbs. for the final round. My first set of PUs was unbroken. After that I typically did at least 5-6 before finishing the set off. I know I've gained about 5-8 lbs. since starting this 5 or 6 weeks ago so the pull-ups have been tougher since I have more weight to pull.
5 rounds for time:
85 lb. squat clean thruster, 5 reps
10 chest to bar pull-ups (used gravitron)

I got 225, thats a P...R...what! When I get my bumpers and bar in the mail I have too, have too do this over for 5 rounds and actually being able to drop the weights will make a differce too. Base globo gym has the regular rubber coated weights and you cant drop those, ha the gym barely has enuf room for me to do oly lift and such, its so pack with stuuuupid "excercise" equipment.
