lol @ the interview with Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, at the beginning she said she recently started training in Crossfit Brossard... LOL I live in Brossard and I didn't even know there was a CF gym here.... i'll hope to see here there =)
Just subbed this one with gwen and Fran on the day with the 3 wods in one. It sucked then now it's just rrrrreeeeeaaalllllyyygonna suck. Ha ha. But that's crossfit ain't it?
As if Clever wasn't already a beast. . .Isabelle at 135lbs. . . .WOW!!!
I guess mainsite is back to normal? Honestly I was starting to have fun. I haven't had to scale that much in a while and I still couldn't produce the times those guys did. I'm a fan. I saw some sad faces in the comments. Personally I loved the challenge and if HQ suddenly decided to make main page more regularly hard like that I would be a fan. I think Pat Barber was the only guy who said he did mainsite and he didn't even make it this year. What do you think guys? Should lots of the standards be beefed up? Should the girl WOD's be retooled? Has CF hit a new standard for what elite fitness is about? I have never even done a regular Helen but I was able to tackle the double Helen rx'd. Sure I almost doubled grahams time. And it made me hurt like I haven't hurt in a while. But the challenge felt awesome. Thoughts?
#3, I second that. Amazing athlete, as well as drop dead gorgeous, great face of crossfit :)
Question- I have been watching a lot of muscle up videos lately. My question is about full range of motion. I know that arms must be locked out at the bottom, hands turned out so that the thumb points forward, legs mist be fully extended at the bottom, and then arms mist be locked out at the top. My question is away how you string them together. If you can meet all those standards can you swing into the next one, like how you see people fall away from the rings and swing into the next rep. I am just curious about why they are looking for in competition, complete dead hang between reps? Thanks for any help!

interesting stuff, after all these wods they have been posting after the games it has been pretty challenging, it seems they have been
Ready to laugh? Looks like there was a small misunderstanding in the Muscle and Fitness Hers article... on the 2nd to last page, look at the weight you should use for Helen. oh how i wish hahaha
decided to bump it up to 155, 6:56. Got excited after seeing Lipson do Isabelle in 1:03. man that is friggin impressive.
I've been waiting for this one. We shall see if my snatch practices have paid off.
Does anyone feel that commercial is a little pretentious? To me, it gives off that elitist attitude that many crossfitters have. Don't get me wrong, doing a WOD in an open park makes sense. But, doing a WOD in a downtown urban area? Hmm.
The Air Force WoD on Tuesday, abbreviated 5K today (read: 2.5K), and Isabelle tomorrow? YEAH!
Did it at 177lbs in 3:40. I'm gonna try for a sub 1 min as prescribed soon. Love that again faster video. I take my classes outside in nyc and people look at us like we have eight heads or something.
So u have to pick a weight u can do 30 times? So you can't do 10 @ 135lb, 10 @ 115 & 10 @ 95 for example..
Thanks
My goal here is simply to beat Kristan's time...
Should this be a squat snatch or does it matter? In the two vidoes demos one shows power snatches the other shows squat snatches... thanks for your comments.
If there are any Cross Fitters in Thailand who are interested in finding someone to train with please contact me. Some good spirited competition would be great! Thank you.

I agree that the games WODs were awesome and definitely a challenge, but I am glad to get back to some of the old standards. Having done the girls WODs for so long, I would be personally hate to see them get retooled. Coach Glassman created such an efficient system that I think works for the vast majority of Crossfitters.
However, for those at the competition level, additional programming is probably necessary. Rather than altering the standard WOD to fit the minority, I would rather see them post a second "Games Track" WOD for those that want to take it up a notch. It could be double the standard WOD, more weight, or even a completely different WOD. It would be similar to the BrandX scaled WODs, except the reverse.
Last WOD before the Canadian Death Race in Grande Cache. Putting Xfit to the test on the old mine road and Hamel assault.

Sick commercial. That's what I'm talking about!
Camille-
You are amazing. I was so glad that I got a chance to meet you and get to know you a little at the Games. Everyone is right...you are a great person to represent our sport and our community! Keep it up girl!
Miranda
Camille looks great yes, but she finished 9th in the games. Why isn't Kristan who WON the games and dominated in a fashion that no one ever has before featured? You feature the men's winner yesterday, and today pick someone farther down in the ranks for a pretty face? Isn't this about function over form (guess not based on the comments on Camille's appearance, are we training for aesthetics?). Form follows function.
Miranda - you are incredible - double PR! great video!
Todays qoute is kind of funny considering this (http://games.crossfit.com/blog/2010/07/scoring-games,707/) discussion about scoring the games.
I think it's cool that crossfit is being recognized more in mainstream media but it still seems like they don't take it seriously. Oh,and I like how Adel Garcia called what she does a sport. Looking good is not a sport, it's called vanity and it doesn't matter how much you get paid for doing it, it's still pointless.
Not only she has a sister, but a twin sister....and she does crossfit....imagine that.
Yeah, I agree with Patrick, doing in a WOD in an urban area like that is totally pretentious. If I saw someone doing that around me it would totally turn me off from Crossfit.

Gotta say, tho, I am working w/ back injuries (hopefully saved a little face).
There's too many vids being posted lately. It's making the page crowded and a little saturated. What's others thoughts on this?
It says "snatch" not "power snatch" which means you have to do a full squat, correct? And if so, how many actually did full squat?
Loved the commercial! A little guerilla marketing, Again Faster style.

Mad Scientist,
Someone may be confused, making assumptions, or is ill-informed.
It is never recommended in any prescribed movement to give a load over to passive joint structures. Nor is it intrinsic to any of the movements.
Any useful movement can overload a joint if done incorrectly: whether from poor mechanics or because of excessive fatigue. That does not make the movements "bad." Driving a car with while sleepy is bad. Driving a car in general is not.
When done well, there can be a very smooth, rhythmic, predictable, ramp up of load falling into the bottom of the movement. The knees flex as the body falls, shortening the distance the center of mass travels. The shoulders are SET and ready for peek load before the knees extend through the bottom of the arc completing the ROM.
Besides, it makes sense that grip will fail before a healthy shoulder will.
Hope this helps.

I don't think I've ever snatched more than 95# before. I've been trying to figure out squat snatches and the weight I'm doing on those is way below 95#. I should try this again soon as I was kind of cautious about the weight and didn't want to push to hard and get into a position where I'd be stumbling around a la Khalipa trying to get my last rep.
(no slight on Jason intended. The man is a beast who can push himself to limits I can only imagine... I just had an image of me crashing into the bikes, tricyle, baby stroller and go cart parked in the garage)

Camille - it was so much fun watching you at the Games and chatting afterwards - find that training partner and get fired up for next year!
Miranda - you rock, chica.
Petty, #103, that's an interesting way to look at it. I would look at it slightly differently, I am still working on full snatch and don't think it safe/prudent at this time to be doing full snatch for time. My main goal with today's wod was to hammer myself for 3-4 minutes or less as hard as I could go, especially considering we had more volume at the beginning of this three-day cycle. So rather than slowly do 30 full snatch I decided to instead do power snatch and then work on regular snatch. Most likely I would do the same next time but with more weight.
By the way, what was your time/load today? Yesterday? The day before that?

Why snatch a weight you can power snatch? In the sport of weightlifting, you can power clean/power snatch, the athletes only catch in a squat because they can't pull maximal weights high enough. More power is generated in a power clean/snatch than the squat version, and isn't CF about maximizing power output?

Excellent response. Thanks for the info. One thing that comes to mind is the intent behind the programing and the availability of scaling the weight. I understand that the programming is to maximize randomness in the exercises but I also think it is done in a very intentional way. The snatch with a full squat engages your core for balance in the squat unlike a power snatch. If that type of stress on the core is intentional in the programming, then it seems that a person that can power snatch 135 might need to scale up to "maximal" loads. I"m sure I'm over thinking it and I know that most the people doing power snatch @ 135 are far more fit that I am. I'll just shut my mouth now. Later

No bumper plates at the gym, so I sat this one out. I really hate doing WODs like this at my gym cuz everyone cries so much when you drop the weight. With Isabel Im bound to drop it from failure or a missed rep, whateva. Thats ok tho, I ordered 2 45s and 2 25 bumpers, they should be in the mail soon. Then next its a oly bar, a couple of 10s, iron 5s, squat rack, more 45s (2 bumper, 2 iron), maybe some 35s, then a plyo box and a list of other things but these 1st.

Tried to go too fast at the beginning, and ended up missing a few, which cost me more time. I actually did this in under 9 mins last time (albeit with 85lbs), but back then I didn't have bumper plates so I paced myself really carefully.
As rx'd, power snatch, 4:29.
First time with Isabel! What a fun WOD! My snatch form needs a lot of work, most of these were muscle snatches that I had to press out. But I didn't have any misses, so that was good. First five straight, then a lot of dropping, lowering even to hang position from overhead w/ snatch grip was taking too much out of my back and forearms.

Much easier whe I could come close to keeping legs straight at end of 1st pull. Also helped when I had feeling of writsts rolling or breaking. Hoping that meant bar staying in correct plane.
Keep an eye on something on floor a little bit in front of me to try to keep back perpendicular to floor.
