That quote is the epitome of my life. I believe victory is great, but I learn much more from failure. I find the prize at the end is looking back and seeing where I struggled and gleaning from the journey those bits and pieces that cannot be attained anywhere else except in the toughest endeavors of my life. My own worst critic is myself and I have found in my defeats that it was me who defeated myself long before the mountain or the ocean or the sky ever did. Wow, has my snatch gotten crappy. The reps actually got easier towards the end of the WOD because my form was improving--not a good sign. I'll have to start working some Burgener drills into my warm-up again. On the other hand, I think I'm making progress towards my first bar M-U.

i have to agree with comment number 2. i love the fact that crossfit has inspired many people to become more fit and that community is growing everyday. the attitudes and enthusiasm is awesome even when competing against others they still yell encouragement. that being said, i have seen (especially this past year) a huge commercialization of crossfit. this can be seen in the live feed with the showing of commercials. it can be seen with the fashion attitude that "south florida" and "yankee" people bring to the table. it can be seen in the venue of the games, which moved from a rugged hardcore ranch to a clean and pretty stadium. crossfit needs to go back to the basics. no air condition, rusty garage gyms, cutoff sweatpants, makeup free women, and for gods sake NO FAUX HAWKS and arm wristbands.

I was watching the live feed (AMRAP in 7 minutes of DL/Pistols/DU) and there is a definite difference in what the judges are allowing for pistols. The guy in the white shorts with the red stripe in the last men's heat is getting credit for pistols that the other judges are waving off for the other competitors. Watch the tape. He's not going as low as everyone else.

It was only 121 yesterday, but that bar had been sitting out all day. As a side note, did "JT" the day before. Took me 6:20. I was pretty happy with that time. We'll see if we can crack 5 minutes next time.

What is it about this WOD that I am not getting, I say this becuase of the the variation in times. I see times posted from low teens/high single digits to over 30 minutes. I don't usually see this much variation in WOD times. Were some people not doing the 3 sets.
Me, it kicked my ass and I subed 3:1 Dips/PU and 115 on snatch. So this sub made it 189 dips and 189 pullups. The snatch took some time but the PU and dips ate up most of it. It took me 31:10.
Maybe I was doing something wrong or maybe becuase I just finished a 12 hour work day mostly spent in 110 degree temps. Either way it sucked.
I had to scale down because I'm not up to doing muscle-ups yet. With the help of Allie at 26.2 crossfit I'll be rockin the muscle-ups in no time. I did 9, 7, 5 squat snatch and 12, 9, 7 ring rows w a jumping dip. 17:10 time.--late post

Subbed jumping muscle-ups and used 105lb weight. I can do muscle ups on a bar, but just cannot seem to get the technique down for the rings. Guess I will really have to work on that.
Followed it up with the 3rds 30 toes-bar, 65lb ground-overhead. 7min max. Got 1 round plus 15 T2B.
My friend and I decided to try this WOD with me doing the MU and him doing the squat snatches to see if we can beat the record time... and we got to rest while the other partner was working. We were thinking we could go sub 4-min, but it took 4:35. Not terrible, but Spealler beat us by himself by more than a minute. Still got a ways to go apparently haha. Those muscle ups with the turn-out at the bottom are much tougher than I expected. Straight-setted the 9, but had to go 5/2 and 3/2 for the next 2 sets...

So, I did progressions (18-14-10 pull-ups and dips), and started out with 95# squat snatches. However, since failed to practice form before beginning my timed workout, I failed miserably at the 95#. And, since I was mid-workout, I couldn't re-set the weight. So, I just grabbed a 45# bar and pushed forward. A little disappointed, but at least I was safe.

That was fun. Muscle ups are a piece of cake. Snatch's were fun but hard. Been working on my snatch a lot lately. Only missed 4 reps which isn't too bad.
Then I did:
Clean & 3 Jerk for 3 sets: 135, 155, 175 (failed on last jerk)

Lost quite a bit of time walking between stations, quite a bit more to ego picking a pull-up weight I really couldn't handle...lesson learned for next muscle-up sub day!

Buy-in: CFWUx1, mobility WOD #53 (muscle-up prep), squat snatch 45x5, 95x5.
Tough but fun. Starting out, squat snatches were the hardest. By the end, muscle-ups were the hardest. I tried to focus on form for squat snatches, and I think it is helping. In later rounds, it seemed like I finally figured out how to get to full extension on the pull. Still, too many misses on snatches. Got the first 3 muscle-ups in a row - first time I have been able to string them together. This was a Games workout, and the cut-off was 12 minutes. At 12 minutes, I had 1 of 5 reps on the last round of squat snatches. Pretty happy with that.
