Comment #12 - Posted by: shane at July 15, 2010 6:12 PM

Oh well, I guess it was just the pre-show.

Comment #13 - Posted by: Steven at July 15, 2010 6:13 PM

It is working just fine for me right now. Maybe try again. If not it may be your computer or connection.

Comment #14 - Posted by: Nick at July 15, 2010 6:16 PM

It's a no go for me as well...bummer.

Comment #15 - Posted by: DannyT at July 15, 2010 6:17 PM

Commnt #15: I'm getting a white screen or a "play" button with a "no smoking" symbol over it.

it hasn't worked at all in the last 19 minutes.

Figures this doesn't go as planed, Ill be surprised if we can view the games live at all with it.

Comment #20 - Posted by: Dan at July 15, 2010 6:21 PM

Can someone please explain tomorrows WOD. What type of weight should I be lifting and is there any rest in between?

Comment #21 - Posted by: Marcie at July 15, 2010 6:21 PM

If some people are getting it and I am not I am going to assume that tomorrow it won't work either. Oh well, we already know Mikko is going to win.

Comment #22 - Posted by: Steven at July 15, 2010 6:21 PM

Dan, Don't say that dude. Not cool.

Comment #28 - Posted by: markkal at July 15, 2010 6:23 PM

Comment #20: Can someone please explain tomorrows WOD. What type of weight should I be lifting and is there any rest in between?

For the sets of 1 you should lift a weight that is really heavy. For the set of 10, lift something manageable but push yourself. The same goes for the sets of 20 and 30. Rest as needed between sets.

Comment #29 - Posted by: PatS at July 15, 2010 6:23 PM

On to more important things. Does anyone have a strategy on % of max for the individual sets in todays WOD?

Comment #30 - Posted by: Steven at July 15, 2010 6:25 PM

I don't think you have to be in the Pacific time zone for it to work...it's an international competition, it should be working for everyone.

Canadians included! Or are we all Canadian and complaining while the Americans are getting a feed?

Comment #31 - Posted by: Justin Farina at July 15, 2010 6:25 PM

push play

Comment #32 - Posted by: neil at July 15, 2010 6:25 PM

I'd rather be watching the Tour de France.

Comment #34 - Posted by: Justin Farina at July 15, 2010 6:27 PM

I just downloaded abode flash player 10.1 (I had 10.0XX previously) and then the live feed started working.

Hope that helps.

Comment #35 - Posted by: brad at July 15, 2010 6:27 PM

Is it MAC vs. PC thing I have a MAC and its not working...

Comment #36 - Posted by: jacob at July 15, 2010 6:27 PM

I'm not sure that this is a good routine. Deadlift sets of more than 10 reps tend to invite form creep.

Comment #37 - Posted by: Matthew 23/6'2.5"/214 at July 15, 2010 6:27 PM

Way to start off right Crossfit HQ... all that money for friggin spectators to watch and you cant even get the preview show to work.. glad i didnt pay 75 bucks

Comment #38 - Posted by: Berrio at July 15, 2010 6:27 PM

Hey #27, Seriously? Are we in the right time zone? Do I need to explain the whole space/time continuem thing to you? If you are watching it right now, then it doesn't matter what time zone anyone is in. IT IS LIVE.

Comment #39 - Posted by: Steven at July 15, 2010 6:29 PM

Safari didn't work. Firefox didn't work. Chrome worked. Try downloading Google Chrome.

I'm watching it just fine on Google Chrome. Try that.

Comment #46 - Posted by: ericthered at July 15, 2010 6:32 PM

sorry, this is a come question but the rep for 1 in btween... does that get different weight? like a max rep for one and then lower the weight for the rest??

Comment #47 - Posted by: Dmejia at July 15, 2010 6:33 PM

Not working for me here in Georgia. Why would the time zone matter? Live at 6 p.m. in California should be on at 9 p.m. in Georgia. That's how it works.

A suggestion for the Games: Why not display the times with PMT and EST? It just seems lazy not too. Take your cues from TV, that's what you're heading for anyways.

Maybe they'll shake all the bugs out now or they're going to be screwing the pooch big time on this.

Comment #48 - Posted by: Paul Siegel at July 15, 2010 6:33 PM

2 questions for the current WOD:

Any rest between sets? Time limit to complete?

Are all sets to be completed without a break (i.e. pick a weight that I can do 30 unbroken for the last set).

Thanks!!

SANTI

Comment #66 - Posted by: SANTI at July 15, 2010 7:09 PM

#20 & #29

The way I did this WODD last time was with a 2-3 min. rest between each rep scheme and a % of my max 1 rep deadlift as follows:

95%X1 - 75%X10 - 97.5%X1 - 55%X20 - 100%X1 - 45%X30

That worked for my that day (I was feeling pretty strong), but YMMV. If the first 1 rep at 95% feels heavy, then just keep that weight for the rest of the 1 rep sets.

Good luck!

Thank goodness there was a pre games show so I could figure out all the bugs.

Comment #69 - Posted by: JuliePlatt at July 15, 2010 7:15 PM

Everything worked fine for me. Preview show was great quality and now I can't wait for the Games to begin. This is going to be a blistering weekend.

All the best to all the competitors and the fantastic team of support staff who are making all this possible for us to see.

BIG thanks to coach G for taking CF to this level.

Comment #70 - Posted by: Lol Mettam at July 15, 2010 7:20 PM

over already? awwww.

Comment #71 - Posted by: harry at July 15, 2010 7:22 PM

WOD strategy:

This may be a bit ambitious, but I am planning to take full rest (3-5 minutes) in between sets.

100%x1 - 85%x10 - 97.5%x1 - 65%x20 - 95%x1 - 45%x30

Goal: 375 - 315 - 365 - 245 - 355 - 175

Comment #72 - Posted by: Latham M/30/180 Camp Cropper at July 15, 2010 7:25 PM

Updating to the latest Adobe Flash Player made it work for me. Suggest posting this on the Games website. Looking forward to a great weekend!!

Comment #73 - Posted by: Tim L at July 15, 2010 7:27 PM

John #66 thanks for the % of 1RM idea. Games desk: maybe there was setting sun behind the camera but is there a way to set it up so the journalistic talent doesn't have to wear shades the whole time? If sun is the issue and the desk can't be reoriented, then the suitable Crossfit mod (even in the new posh venue) would be to rig a clothesline & sheet behind the camera to block the glare. Looking forward to the Games and the WOD!

Comment #75 - Posted by: DL at July 15, 2010 7:51 PM

this again eh?

Comment #76 - Posted by: thatguy at July 15, 2010 7:59 PM

ALLCON:
If you have questions about this WOD and subscribe to the Journal, go to Categories, Coaching, and scroll down until you find Heavy Days. Spealler talks about this very rep scheme. Gist of video: Don't get hung up on percentages for 20 and 30 rep sets, fire for effect and go as heavy as you can.

Comment #77 - Posted by: Dave at July 15, 2010 8:04 PM

Hey whats up people, I just need to get something of my chest. I'm freaking sick of people talking smack about Crossfit. Its stupid on how many forums you can stumble upon bashing CFers. My question is WHY? Why would you bash someone who is doing better for them selves becoming a fitter person. Everyone doesnt want to BODYBUILD if thats what you do thats cool I dont care, I just hate when people talk crap about our WODS, it freaking works. This is the only thing I do, except everyone now and then I mountain bike, but this all I do. I went from 5'9" 206 to 5'9" (just the other day) 171. I am freaking fit. No gimmicks, thats it I'm no elite but fit. Why hate on a good thing. I chalange anyone and everyone who thinks CF is a joke or a gimmick, YOU WILL GET WORKED, no joke. Ok Im off my soapbox good CFing everyone.

DONT STOP, GO!!

***FRAT***

I can't believe it's been a year already. Last year at this time I was making last minute preparations to head out to Aromas in the FRAT Playoff Beard Party Bus.

I worked the 09 Games as a judge, watched some amazing feats of athleticism and got to meet and hang out with a ton of awesome people.

This year I won't be there in person, but I'll be watching from home, anxiously waiting to see who earns the title of fittest man and woman on the planet.

Guys, If you don't already realize it, this is the birth of an epic sport. One that will continue to grow and evolve year after year. Drink it in, cause it's moving faster than Chris Spealler's jump rope.

I'll miss you all this year, but for old times sake, here's a FRAT shout out: Pony, Goat, Herm, Patty, Franiel, Cynthia J, Jakers, Rebe, Corey B, Fat Tony, Rookie, Bingo, Carlox, Nelson, Fit Mom, Freddy C and too many more to name..."Bartender, man hugs and bad English all around!"

Have fun guys, shotgun a beer for me, and I'll catch you all the next time around.

***FRAT OUT***

1320 total pounds.

I suffered from a bad case of rhabdo just over 6 months ago after deadlifting 150# about 20 times. Spent a week in the hospital and literally almost killed myself. I've been scared every since to do the workout. Joined Crossfit Ames here in Iowa where I go to school and couldn't wait to finally do a WOD after learning proper form. First 1RM felt easy but didn't want to get too crazy on my second round. Couldn't resist throwing up 300 my last round though, a little sore but extremely happy right now.

Wasn't crazy about starting with my max. Took it easier for my disc sake. Normally 455 is an easy max. Went 405 across the board for the max. It usually takes me 4-5 sets to get warm enough for the high 4's. I was afraid I wouldn't have gas for the rep sets. 2120 I guess isn't bad at 41.

Still a relative crossfit newbie (since Jan). My first go-round on this WOD, but here it goes.

405 x 1
335 x 10
425 x 1
335 x 20 (broken but done)
435 x 1
275 x 30 (broken but done)

Made the mistake of not going down for my set of 20. Paid for that one as I had to really gut the 20 and 30 sets.

Two days ago, there was an announcement regarding the drug testing policy for the CrossFit Games. The announcement included the claim that CrossFit's policy mirrors that of the NCAA. That claim is a falsehood, and I was surprised to see it being made.

Like other robust testing regimens, the NCAA's policy incorporates in-competition testing and also out-of-competition testing. CrossFit's policy is only to test in-competition. This provides clear opportunities for abuse during the periods of intensive training when the benefits of performance enhancing drugs are greatest.

A year-round testing programme would, I suspect, be cost-prohibitive. But there's no reason not to at least randomly test athletes during the period between sectionals and the Games.

WOW!! that is amazing, just makes you want to train harder to make it and compete in that type of environment and with so many great athletes, with the new competition structure and having to go through sectionals and regional's Cross Fit truly has the finest athletes in the world gathered in one location. I am sure there will be some amazing times put up and people busting their ass and in true Cross Fit fashion i am sure that every competitor will be cheering on their competition. special shout out to my man Rob Orlando, show the world who you are and what we do at Hybrid, and to all the other competitors, you have made it this far give it everything you have for a few more days, good luck to all.

# 97, lew downs,

great job man, i know that mental block. i got a herniated disc a year ago doing DL and was afraid to get back into them, after i healed thought i could get back into them but was a big mental block but had to push through. Not back to my max yet but getting their. good luck in the training.

after seeing the images for CFG 2010, I am excited, but a little nervous...

Is CrossFit getting too big for its own good?

There's a part of me that is extremely happy to see an "arena" dedicated to CrossFit, but the otehr part of me is nostalgic for the days of competing in a field or a converted warehouse.

Oh well, move on and stay True!

Good Luck

I suspect even that would be cost-prohibitive. How many athletes are you looking at? 140? It's all very well testing the guys who work out at established places, but how are you going to get the testers out to Europe or Finland? This is the kind of thing that'll be easier when there's more ready cash, but right now it seems tricky.

Good call on making the distinction from the NCAA though, good point.

I'm in the same boat, exciting stuff but feels a bit out of place?

Anyway, I'm a main-site WOD guy, in a non crossfit gym, and the quality of the workouts and information on the site hasn't changed since I started 3 years ago...that's the soul of this movement, I think - all of these amazing workouts and resources available for free. Keep that up and I guess I don't mind how big it gets.

***Happy Birthday Carole***

In honor of her 52nd birthday today, Carole did "filthy 52", as has been the tradition on her birthday the last couple of years:

52 box jumps, 24" box
52 jumping pull-ups
52 kettlebell swings, 1 pood
52 walking lunges
52 knees to elbows
52 push press, 45# bar
52 back extensions
52 wall ball, 5 kg. ball
52 burpees
52 double unders

30:56

F/52/5'6"/133

On last year's birthday, she only did a 16" box, and tuck jumps (instead of double unders), in a time of 34:22. So, this year, with one more rep on each, a 24" box and double unders, she cut 3 and a half minutes off. Who says we can't get better with age?

I continue to be proud, and humbled, by her accomplishments.

Best of luck to all the competitors at the games this weekend. We both wish we were there to watch!

Oh wow today was a frustrating day at the gym…..I tried and tried and tried and tried to get my PR on DL and JUST could NOT get that full ext. I would get up, and not full ext. And back was not straight but rounding. I was getting more and more and more frustrated. As I dropped the wt was still struggling. Oh please oh please tell me other people have this happen and hopefully I have not “lost” my PR. (PR is 265 and when I got it could have pulled 270, felt great).

Rep 1-255
Rep 10-135
Rep 1-245
Rep 20-135
Rep 1-225
Rep 30-135 did not let go of bar but did rest on ground at rep 19, 25, and 28

Don’t ask me what I was thinking with the bar at 135 for all the others. I was so frustrated trying on my 1 reps I never even thought to put it up.

I could say a lot of things may not have been helping- not sleeping well, not eating enough, and BS the other day. But STILL – agh!

W/U: deadlift, 3x3 at 225-295-345#.

As Rx: 1990# (new PR by 120#).

395x1 - 300x10 - 395x1 - 280x20 - 395x1 - 225x30.

Initially planned on doing the 30 reps at 230#, but I remembered how miserable doing 225# was last time. It was still miserable this time around, but I could have added the extra 5#. Also didn't take it easy today. But I'm pretty sure I'll do that tomorrow.

Comment #264 - Posted by: rjf (Since 07-20-07. WOD no. 820) at July 16, 2010 4:51 PM

As I did this one today I felt like my back was rounding, so I asked someone to watch...and it was rounding. I used a trap/hex bar to finish off the last 15 reps in the set of 30. I need to work on keeping my back rounded throughout the motion. (All weight in lbs.)

1 x 225
10 x 175
1 x 225
20 x 155
1 x 235
30 x 135 (last 15 with trap/hex bar)

Have not done heavy strength work since high school so it will take some time before I am back up to the heavy weights. All together the total is not bad but I could have been more aggressive. Oddly enough, grip was a much more limiting factor than I predicted. Chalk or straps would have been great and hook grip made little difference. Also, going barefoot next time.

Hi all,

Thinking about starting crossfit. I'm a small young girl with some experience with weightlifting (enough that I know how to lift properly but not enough that I know what weights to assign for a number of reps). Anyone have any suggestions on a couple good WOD's for me to start with that are more on the simple side that could get me started out?

Comment #305 - Posted by: mac at July 17, 2010 4:34 AM

160kg-1
100kg-10
170kg-1
100kg-20
175kg-1
100kg-30 Total load-805kg

Didnae go all out as back still not back to where it should be,the 100kg for 10 and 20 were too easy, will do them higher the next time, still had soo much more to go on the one rep max aswell, but save it for another day,as i just did 5-5-5-5-5 the other day !it's hard trying to keep yourself in check....!but better than injury again
after,S/P,Sn. p/p and cleans .

The set of 10 was easier than I had thought it would be, but the sets of 20 and 30 were pretty tough. Was spent and lightheaded after the longer sets - had to sit down. Happy with 405, but I rounded to get it up, so I went down on the last single to try to keep perfect form. By then, I was pretty tired anyway.

225 X 20 (12, 8) used alternating grip
315 X 1

threw in 1 X 405, just to see if I could, and I did! Wore a weight belt, because I'm still worried about re-injury, but other than that, I felt good today.
