I put money on me for this one! the intensity that this WOD is going to create will be out of the planet.

No elite guys time? i would say close to the 8 minute mark. Chasing that time any one?

Comment #17 - Posted by: Kumate at June 10, 2010 7:20 PM

Its 3/4 Cindy for me. I guess that means about 15 minutes...maybe less since I wont be saving any for the last few rounds. Cindy always gets hard after 15 rds, so this should be fun

Comment #18 - Posted by: Brendan at June 10, 2010 7:21 PM

Does Mikko sound like a robot to anyone?

Comment #19 - Posted by: dc at June 10, 2010 7:39 PM

I started doing CF, like 99 percent of CF'ers, because it is far superior to anything else. Period. The whole enterprise seems to be morphing into quite a commercial enterprise. Being an American capitalist, I have no problem with that. The elite CF'ers seem to be minor celebrities and, based on that photo, enjoying some measure of commercial success as well. That type of incentive begs the question: At what point does CF start drug testing the winners? This is a discussion I think the CF community should have in earnest.

Comment #20 - Posted by: Tim at June 10, 2010 7:52 PM

Any WOD with 150 pushups kills me. I hope to be under 20. Basically just a regular date with Cindy for me.

Comment #21 - Posted by: Duke at June 10, 2010 8:07 PM

@19 Tim
They start drug testing in negative one year. AKA it was at last years games.

Comment #24 - Posted by: Tracy at June 10, 2010 8:28 PM

I haven't watch the full lenght CF Jounal interview yet. At any point does Sevan get Mikko to say:
"I will break you." ... ?

Comment #25 - Posted by: Turtle - 5'11",167#, 32 at June 10, 2010 8:30 PM

Agreed on Drug testing. It needs to happen, as CF as grown so rapidly, as has the competitive factor and drive to win. It's a must to keep CF successful and genuine to it's core values its built on.

So, because Louie chooses to use steroids, Crossfit should find someone who knows less about powerlifting to work with? Gimme a break. Do you really think there are gonna be a bunch of drones on here who think "man, I wasn't going to use steroids but since I am a Crossfitter and Crossfit has teamed with Louie Simmons to provide education on powerlifting, and Louie Simmons uses steroids, I guess I should as well"? Get real friend. I don't think any true Crossfitter looks at Louie Simmons and says, "now that is a fit man, I want to be like him". He fails the "fit" test by Crossfit standards miserably. So, if he wants to use steroids for his own purposes, so be it. As long as he is still one of, if not the, foremost experts on powerlifting, I for one am glad he is on board. He is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to improve that part of their game.

14:12

Doing bench press before an extended
power output (metcon) workout with push-ups will really make it tough. Not that it wasn't tough to begin with :-)

I did underestimated this WOD. Did this at Mckibens Gym at Fort Carson. Stop a couple of times to get air in: Squats were done Butt to Ball, Push ups to standard, a couple of pull ups were almost chest to bar.

Time was 10:43

After that did a Short METCON of 5,4,3,2,1 of Clean and jerks with 135LBs and 30 IN box jumps, finished that in 5:43.

Weighted my self today with my running shoes on, a sweatie shirt and shorts and weighted 138, Yeah i know i need more weight, I am eating healthy and I am stronger but I am not gaining any weight. although deadlift yesterday 355 x 5, PR is 410 x 1. any Advice on how to keep getting stronger and how to eat in order to do good in the WODs and gain some weight? thanks

Make sure your protein intake is adequate,
plus important to get some ptotein and calories within 30 mins of finishing a w/o.

If you are doing this don't wory about the weight.
You are very strong!
Lots of world class athletes are amazingly light:
the great sprinter Jeremy Warriner is about 6'3" and only weighs 150, and Tommy Hearns was over 6' and fought under 147 for years.
Best of luck. Steve

Going in, I dreaded the pushup, especially since I did bunch yesterday. But I got thru them easily. Final 10 started slowing down..

225 felt great and prob could had pulled 230 right after. The 235 I fatigued on grip and legs and just could not get it and really tried hard so was tired after. All in all a nice PR on the 225 and I will take it! Love DL’s! Esp considering the hip issue, I am feel good about getting 230 next time.

Santi,

Sounds like you have impressive strength to body weight ratio so I wouldn't worry about it too much but if you do still want to gain some size you need to basically take in more calories then you are burning. Figure out your basal metabolism rate, can find formulas online, add in your calories burned for activity and then you know what you have to intake each day to maintain. Then start eating 6 times a day, and get a complex carb and lean protein at every meal. Typically a 50 percent carb, 20 percent fat, and 30 percent protein diet works pretty well for people can adjust as needed. The big thing is get all your meals at 3 hour increments and get protein and carbs all the time, then calories. You should take in 500 to 1000 calories over your basal to add weight. Good luck with it, there is tons of information online and some good ebooks as well.

To all of the monsters doing this workout in the neighborhood of 8 minutes:

How many rounds are you getting on a full Cindy?

If you look at the profile of the Games competitors from last year, the majority of competitors are in the mid to high 20's with some outliers on either side for Cindy. I am figuring someone who does 15 rounds in 8 min should be good for 30rds of Cindy pretty easily. I think there may have only been like one other Games competitor in the 30s for Cindy last year other than Speal. Speal got 38 rds but he is a mutant. Anyway, so my other question for you guys in the neighborhood of 8 minutes, is did you compete this year in the qualifiers and if so, how did you do?

I recognize some of the guys' names posting some of these times and they have been posting realistic times for long enough that I believe their times; however, some of those have to be exaggerations or using horrible form. I haven't tried this one yet (resting this week to try and get over some minor injuries), but I will be interested to see how it goes. I think my Cindy PR is 24 rds.

If I am wrong and all of these times are legit, then there are some dark horse athletes out there who are gonna start surprising people in competitions.

Anyway, if someone hasn't done this yet and thinks they will get in the neighborhood of 8 min, I would love to see the Youtube video of it.

Okay, I was a little off on my memory of Cindy stats from last year, but not much.

http://games2009.crossfit.com/male_cindy.pdf

I gotta say with the average 2009 Games Competitor's Cindy PR being 26 rds, I have to call BS on the vast majority of 8 min times on the board for this workout. No offense to the 49 YO guy on here who posted a sub 8 min time, but if you truly are ripping out times like that, you need to start submitting videos because I guarantee they will get on the main site. After a run through of the posts, at least one 8 min time claims to have good range of motion. That is one of the posts that might actually be legit.

To any poser who is posting exaggerated times or using horrible form: You are not impressing anyone. You are not helping yourself by lying on the workouts or using horrible range of motion/form. Do the workouts with full range of motion rx'd and then post your times. No one is going to believe you if you say that you posted a better time than Speal unless: (a) your name is Mikko Salo, Jason Khalipa, etc. or (b) you post a video link.

I've never finished 11 rounds of Cindy, so this is going to be rough...

Comment #197 - Posted by: BC at June 11, 2010 3:03 PM

To Michael Malmfeldt above,

I did it in 8:54 with chest-to-bar today and my recent Cindy is only 22 with no CTB. There is a HUGE difference in what people can do in under 10 minutes compared to over 15 minutes. My reason for such a disparity is complete fatigue in push-ups where I can't force out any more once I get to about 15 rounds of Cindy. Today got me right to my failure point that I felt would have been in the next round or two I'd have been doing singles.
You need to remember that there are many many ways that people can excel in Crossfit, sometimes the numbers don't make sense unless you ask. Have you ever tried 10 minutes of Cindy? I guarantee you'll get WAY more rounds than just half of your 20 minutes Cindy.
I was shooting for 12-15 minutes because of my 20 minute Cindy score, and was WAY off. It would be the same as cutting Murph in half and doing it, then doubling the time and saying you could do it in that time unscaled, it doesn't make any sense.

Yeah for the 8 minute guys I would be interested to know some long term aerobic type exercise numbers vs. the numbers of their anaerobic output workouts.

For me- I'm a long and lean aerobic type. I've ran marathons in the past (3 years ago) and since then have worked more on my anaerobic abilities. Having just graduated a fire academy and also doing MMA for the past couple years I'm in halfway decent crossfit shape but I've got to say some of the numbers I'm seeing makes me wonder about the importance of balancing more aerobic type fitness into my workouts. I just can't help but wonder if I was still in "5 mile runs being cake walks" type shape how it would reflect in workouts like today's?

So... if you're an 8 minute guy I'd love to know what kind of time you put up on a 5 mile run (or more) just to sort of get an idea on how to morph my training in order to maintain such good intensity.

Cindy is one of my best workouts and I felt that in this format that my numbers would be near the top for this workout. I'm with you on this one Mike, I don't see how these numbers can come sub 8 with strict form. I felt like I was near death at the end of this workout but was not going to let something like death stop me from getting sub 10 min. Afterwords I realized I did 16 rounds.

#67 Michael,
Thanks for your reply.

The issue is that CrossFit is going to have to work incredibly hard in the future to be free of drug-taking top performing athletes.

Athletes are only tested once per year so it is quite easy for them to be drug takers for most of the year, and then allow a period of time just before competition to clear any trace of drugs. As prizemoney and sponsorships will continue to grow as CrossFit grows, you can expect the number of cheats to grow.

We need to make a clear stand right throughout the CrossFit community that drugs are a deplorable form of cheating. Because effective drug testing is virtually impossible we need to work collaboratively to denounce drug taking at all levels. From the garage gyms and local boxes right through to the elite level of competition.

Having Louie Simmons on the Journal sends mixed messages. Maybe not to you - and maybe not to most people. But to the athlete who might be considering them for that 'extra bit' it really does suggest that maybe they are not that bad at all. Anyone searching out further information Louie's methods will also come across his 'logic' for drug use. You probably know some steroid users, and you know that they use every bit of weird rationalization imaginable.

Louie knows powerlifting - no doubt. But he is not the font of all lifting knowledge. But there are many, many incredibly educated people who really know their strength and conditioning material who also work against drug taking. It's not like Louie knows everything and nobody else knows their stuff. There are many other great options out there for increasing our knowledge.

Forgot to post earlier... looks like the shoes Rob is wearing are the Nike Waffle Racer V's... could be wrong, but either way any spikeless track/cross-country racer is a great shoe to use for running. Puma makes some good ones, too. Those are my shoe of choice for any running (I typically do a 3 CFE WOD, TT/Sprint/Long Intervals, cycle every other CF WOD cycle starting on the rest day before the next WOD cycle and doing a running WOD in the afternoon every other day). There is a work in period where you will experience calf soreness, so recommend jumping rope/DUs/CFE Skills&Drills before making the change from a motion-control/thick-heeled running shoe to a racer or VFFs for running purposes. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting a bad bout of achilles tendonitis.

23:01. My back is still torn up- seems those heavy DL's yesterday didn't loosen it up after all.

Tore a callous out of my palm. VERY close to puking for 10 minutes afterward. What slowed me down is being unable to bang out 5 pull-ups or 10 push-ups consecutively for the last 5 rounds. Just ran out of gas. Squats were ok (though I was feeling it in lower back, strangely), just exhausting, but kept failing on 4th pull-up, and 7th push-up. I know the intensity was there, though, since I did almost puke, and couldn't really talk or anything for awhile afterward. Glad tomorrow's a rest day. I am crushed.

Well, didn't realize that it was supposed to be body weight squats and ended up using 185 for all 15 rounds. Still made pretty good time though. We only had one station of each exercise and 3 people doing it, so I'm estimating a time of about 20 minutes each, eventhough the stopwatch said 40.

I usually do very well with Cindy (31 rnds is my p.r.) so I thought I'd try to go full tilt for only 15 rounds... I have a big step up to get up to the bar, but other than that, I don't really waste any time between rounds.
I was figuring I knew I could do it well under 10 minutes since I do over 30 rounds in 20 minutes. I did an extra round at the end so I did 16 in 8:58. I had this tiny incling of doubt that I could have miscounted rounds so I did the extra round. I did 10 rounds in 5:14. Anyhoo, that was just as hard as 30 rounds in 2o minutes in my opinion.. just less time in pain.. I started to feel it a little only after 6 rounds, because I was going that much faster, with NO wasted second. I am so impressed with Greg A's 8:20. I know I was lighting it up, so big guy going just as fast as me I think is impressive. I mean I do well on bodyweight stuff, but Greg A is like two times my size.
Fun different approach to Cindy
